This spell is like AEGO, it serves no real purpose. Yeah you can come up with one, but basicly, one lvl later and it is obsolete. Someone mentioned that Temp is best until Virtue, not true. Don't forget that one level that AEGO can be cast on you, and then the next level Virtue can land. To me it's a real EQ brain fart because you can spend a lot of pp buying AEGO or a Rune for this spell and it is only good for one level. And yes you have to get it, other wise you can't get the other spells that come after it in the rune hand in order. I would rather have another spell and suffer with Virtue or stacking with druid buffs for one more level that to have this spell.

It became a "brain fart" because of the way in which spells progressed throughout EQ history. In concept it was all good in the old days and in some ways it still works and makes sense theoretically speaking.

In practice, I agree with you... most cleric buffs are now redundant other than the few key ones which often get a mention.
The uses of this spell....

1 buff slot
1300 mana per cast (oooh my poor mana pool)
2 hour 30 min duration
1787 hp
94 ac
stacks with Armor of Zealot for 8mana/tick regen
gone in one fell swoop from a dispelling mob....

Confidence/Ward of Valliance/Balikor:
3 buff slots
1590 mana to cast (total)
1 hr 12 min duration
1787 hp
102 ac
also stacks with armor of zealot for 8mana/tick

If all you are thinking about is that puny bit of extra ac, this spell is a waste of time.

However...in a fight with an old world dragon, or with some other dispelling mobs (especially the ones with area effect dispell), the value of only losing 650hp/30 ac (Confidence) OR 1137 hp (Balikor) OR 72 ac (Ward) can make or break whether the person dispelled lives or dies. That difference goes up exponentially if it's a whole group (or God forbid a whole raid) that is dispelled.

Most mobs only fire off a couple of dispells per fight (old world dragons excepted). So you usually only lose the top couple of buffs.

If your spells are layered in order of mana cost to the buffer - this can be very useful.

If *everyone* in a group loses Confidence to an aoe dispell, that's 260 mana x 6 people for a total of 1560 - a decent cleric can spare that much.

If, however, an aoe dispell wipes *Conviction* off a group -- that's 1300 mana x 6 or 7800 (more than some cleric's entire pool heh)...even with HoC it's still over 3k mana lost in one fight for a rebuff.

*Insert snazzy catchphrase here*

Wondering why they continued this line of spells.

Temperance is better than all the spells in this line until Virtue becomes available, then Virtue is better until Conviction becomes available.

This spell line needs to be killed. Just a waste.

Reason for this spell

This spell serves a purpose for mobs that dispell you because now instead of having just that 1 buff that does it all, it's spread across 3 buffs. This allows you to retain some of the effects for longer until they too are dispelled. It's better to loose 2k in hps and 100 ac over time than instantly.

I'm level 66 and when I'm in a group I often buff with this combination rather than spend valuable time locating someone with the ability and time to cast Conviction.
Am I missing something here?
# Nov 15 2004 at 10:07 PM Rating: Default
This spell does not stack with Conviction and does not stack with PoT9/Steeloak. It only stacks with symbol, armor of the zealot(or whatever armor). I see no use for this unless you are lvl 66 and cant get a group or figure out how to get buffs in PoK and are forced to solo. Like if I logged on and I was the only player on the server I might use it....
If anyone has any tips Id be happy to hear from ya...

Conviction you will not get until the very end of level 67. With this spell and the symbol you get at this level stacked with your level 65 self buff will give you 2237hp. Whereas if you have just Conviction it only provides 1787hp. That's 450hp difference.

That seems unlikely. Everyone else has been getting it second, and the quest page says its second. Are you sure you didn't get one 66 and one other spell, then this?

This+symbol+ac spell vs Virtue upgrade.

The upgrade for virtue is 1787 hp and 94 ac

This plus new symbol +new ac buff is 1787 hp and 102 ac

So the only benefit is an extra 8 ac? and it lasts half as long? And takes 3 spells slots?

Am I missing something here, or is this spell pretty much worthless?

Cast this with AoTZ & Kaz Symbol ... very nice indeed for self buffing till confidence comes along

PoT9 wont stack of course ....but for clerics this gives you handy extra hp

Works out at 2010 hp ...not bad

I have gotten runes in WoS and there is a drake in drankic scar sw part of zone that you turn them into for the spells.
# Sep 16 2004 at 9:35 AM Rating: Decent

You need Runes for all the spells from 66-70
66+ spells
# Sep 15 2004 at 2:56 PM Rating: Decent
where do you finds theses spells at??
# Sep 15 2004 at 11:21 AM Rating: Decent

If you look at the HP for this spell and the HP for the new symbol spell it is more HP than what virtue is. 650+1137= 1738 HPs where virt is what 1400? So by casting this spell and symbol your giving pets and your party an extra 300 HP.
RE: Cause
# Oct 02 2004 at 6:42 AM Rating: Decent
also if you paid attention, in pop if you casted faith and symbol, it was more hp then virtue... dont know by how much.. like 10 hp or something ;-)
What's the point?
# Sep 15 2004 at 8:16 AM Rating: Default
With the reagent requirement for the Aegolism and Symbol line of spells being tossed, what is the point of these normal hp type one buffs now? I would just as readily cast virt now on pets instead of the normal hp type one spells now that it doesn't cost a pdot. Sure it costs more mana for virt, but when virt lasts a little over 4 hours (max AA and an extension item), waiting 2 or 3 minutes to regen the mana isn't such a big deal.

Lol as long as druid mana buff exists people will always want symbol over virtue

Casters that is.

Oh and clerics who want focus too ,,(not that I do mind AoTZ everytime ...well until I hit 70)

Yes but THIS spell doesn't stack with druid buff. Sure SYMBOL has a specific use, but as the guy said, what is the point of THIS spell, other than to hold you over til 67 (assuming its possible to get all the 66 spells before you hit 67 anyhow).

Faith used to be great for buffing pets without the reagent costs (remember those?) - now with peridots removed from our spells' casting requirements - this is for tanks who want an extra 8(?)ac, and have buffslots to spare.
Please do not excite the ogres.
