damage shield

Ok how exactly does a damage shield work? Does it take the absorb damage of every hit? Oh, and does it only work vs. melee? I was accually very surprised as i look through enchanters spells, the rune (damage shields are great) why don't more enchanters cast this on people? Especially tanks, I know that it cost a reagent and sometime a more expensive one but my god enchanter can make it back in 5 mins in PoK casting buff. I have a level 17 enchanter and it just seems to me that maybe most enchanters are either stingy or they dont do alot of research on spells!!!! I also have a level 57 bst and i have never had an enchanter cast rune on anyone in our groups!!

As I have a level 70 enchanter I can speak from experiance. I spend 2100p on 10 stacks of peridots. yes, I could make that in a few hours in PoK casting, if no other chanter was casting. As far as to why we dont cast this on others more often, well either you are grouping with the wrong enchanters or you are playing melee class. Most enchanters like myself will cast the rune onto the casters (cleric, and self primarily) shaman, druid, int casters and healers... this is to keep us alive a couple seconds longer. Tanks have a ton of hps.. casters have miniscule, my lvl 70 has barely over 2k hps unbuffed, raid buffed has 5600, a tank at that level has over twice that unbuffed, the other half is ac... tanks have massive ac, my enchanter i think might have 500ac if lucky, where a tank has like 3 times that, when my enchanters runes fall, I have appx 2 seconds if lucky of life left, tanks survive alot better than we do... Have I ever casted on tanks (YES) when going up against mobs that we know will take out the tank fast, chanters normally will start chain casting the runes onto the tank to give him extra life time...
we are not stingy, why give a tank a rune, that will wear off in a second after melee starts, when we cast it on the casters to extend our life span... I hope this clarifys why tanks do not get our runes very often

This is not a damage shield, this absorbs damage up to the max number of hps for the level. A damage shield causes damage to the mob that hits it.

At level 13, Rune I absorbs 9hp of damage up to level 21 where it absorbs 55hps. It's really not effective to cast a 9hp shield for 41 mana. It's actually better to save that mana to use on giving Breeze to the healer.

As for casting Rune I, it makes more sense for an enchanter to cast it on low-hp casters as a 'buffer' in case the caster gets hit rather than melees who can usually take a hit or two before the load screen. Bigger and better Runes have more uses.

The cost of the reagent for Rune I, if it's an issue, probably can't be gotten back in PoK by casting Buffs for donations. Not many people are looking for Breeze.

I assume Rune spells don't consume a spell component when it's a weapon proc, but can anyone confirm this?

Weapon procs do not use a reagent, they just use the same info from the spell.
