is it really 420-450?
# Sep 27 2006 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
The spell says 224 to 450 which is correct(the spell description) of the spell description on alla :-)
Hmm why does this spell not match merchant
# Sep 27 2006 at 2:12 PM Rating: Decent
I was going to buy this for my necro.. still will with my LDON points.

However, above says it does 432-438 however the spell says 224 to 450.

So I am confused sorry :-(. I never looked at this spell before since I finally got my necro high enough that he rocks so far lol and i can afford this spell.

Can someone explain the differences between this post and the spell description?

Thanks :-)
Good spell

One word for you all .. extedned torment. many will argue that it rounds down .. however the 10% mod rounds UP giving Horror a 7 tick cycle. Well well worth the 1410 points spent on the aug in MM.
If it were not for the ease of resists in the PoP mobs I would say that this is more powerful that Blood of Thule. ( just watch for crits on this spell as it generates A LOT of agro)

Mana Efficient
# Jan 28 2004 at 8:08 AM Rating: Decent
Very mana efficient in terms of damage. That alone would make me purchase this.

With GoD AA you will be able to get two specilizations, considering there is a wide array of conjuration dots (snare, poisons, dieseases, and now magic based curses) I think it would be very smart to specilize in both alteration and conjuration. Just my thoughts.

As of 12/18/03, AE4 and AH4 will affect this spell because both of the focus have been reduced to minimum of 5 ticks(30 secs).

Dot calculation error

Lucy has bad math, Horror = 6 ticks or 2580 total dmg w/o any focus or extension. Do not reply and confuse people by arguing with this post until you cast the spell with dot dmg enabled and hand count the ticks.
RE: Dot calculation error
# Jan 25 2004 at 11:10 AM Rating: Decent
Just got this spell and did count the ticks it does hit 6 times for 2580

Heal over TIme and Damage over Time spells get an extra "0 tick" that Lucy doesn't show, since it's not recorded in the dat file that the site parses.
Conjuration Spec

Maybe there will be more necros that specialize in Conjuration will be created because of this DoT. My friend is planning to make one right now since Conjuration Horror+BoT+FP is more mana efficient than with Alteration Specialized one. The idea will be crappy though because Neuro, ToM, and SK are all Alteration.

A necro could agro kite using darkness (Conj), dark plague (conj) Blood of thule (Conj) and horror (conj). There's a few problems here though ...

Dark Plague, Blood of Thule, and Horror have -50, -30, and -30 resist checks respectively. Compare that to the -150 and -100 of Pyro and FPoK and the -200 for splurt. You'll be wasting a lot of mana on resists using just conjuration. Also llifetaps, lifetap drains, and neurotoxin are all alteration, spells that see heavy heavy usage often in crtical times (lifetapping a raid mob to stay alive) and running oom would be bad. Charms are alter, mind wrack is alter.

The best reason to stick to alteration is Sedulus Subversion. With SCM3 I specilize check on this spell about 50% of the time making it roughly a 200 mana spell to give someone 100 mana. I rarely go below 80m when twitching if I time the ticks correctly, with conjuration this would not be possible and I would be engaging under 95m to Fm often.

The best reason to specialize in conjuration is PoFire. Obviously pyro and FPoK can't see too much use here which are your bread and butter dots. Plague and Blood of thule can step in place of those two dots which are both conjuration.

Also the mezzes are both conjuration where the necro may be in a high degree of CC, pets are conjure, darkness (THE most used dot) is conjure and the list goes on ...

I still think that alteration is the way to go though. Yeah it would help you if kiting in PoFire but that's really it. Specilizing in Conjuration would make you very specilized (pardon the pun) alteration would be more appropiate in most situations.

Hey! How did you learn exactly how specialization works? I've been tyring to find formulas on that forever. Looks like you are implying that with 200 skill you get a 35% chance for a specialization to be "activated" and SCM3 (which we know gives you 15% additinoal chance) brings that up to 50%. You also seem to be implying that "succeeding" at a specialization check makes the spell take exactly 50% of the normal mana. Is this correct?

While I'm asking, anybody know the exact formula for the mediatate skill and how it works? I.e., if you have 245 in meditate (or whatever it caps at) how much mana do you get if you are sitting for that tick? Then how does EQ deal with situations where you only sat part of the last 6 seconds? Does it check every 6 seconds and give you mana if you were sitting at the time of the tick? Or is there a counter that starts when you initially sit down and it doesn't give you the mana until you have been sitting for 6 seconds? Or every 6 seconds does it determine how much of that you were sitting and give you mana based on that percentage?

LOL! Thanks if you know
RE: Specialization?
# Jan 22 2004 at 5:23 PM Rating: Decent
Simple, I did a little experiment where I twitched 50 times. Each time after a twitch I would med to full. I used 6% of my mana on a specialization check and 10% of my mana on a non-specialization check. I have almost exactly 4k mana. (4016)

Anyways out of the 50 times I used only 6% mana 23 times and I used the full 10% 27 times. While I should have done it 100 times to get a more accurate number I've pretty much come to the conclusion that a 200 specialization with SCM3 is roughly a 50% chance to use roughly 60% of the mana normally required to cast a spell.

One could further infer that a 50 specilization check with SCM3 is about a 23.75% chance to specialize (35/4)+15=23.75%, haven't tried this though and it is just my guess.

As for the normal mana regen rate when sitting Rixtar's explanation seems good as I have heard countless times you get +23-25 mana a tick while sitting (The range is because people give many different answers).
RE: Specialization?
# Jan 15 2004 at 12:00 AM Rating: Decent
When sitting, meditate regenerates mana at a rate of 1/10 of your total skill or .10 X (meditate skill). You can test this by casting casting a spell and seeing how long it takes to med back to full (assuming no fizzles). You can then repeat the test several times, to account for the times when specialization may kick in. Make sure that you do not have any spell affects on that are modifying your mana regeneration rate.

I'm not sure how your regen rate is affected if you stand after part of the 6 sec cycle, but feel free to test that as well. =)

FP is alteration...

Also this spell is resisted to much for any real use when soloing... in groups it's good if you have someone in your group to magic debuff the mob first... it's resisted to much and re-cast is horrable.

A -30 magic is nothing, it just makes this a slightly better than default spell.

Magic is an often-resisted line, and mobs that have a high MR won't feel a -30 at the level you get this spell.

This is a nice spell, but Alteration is still king for Necros. Here's a list of why (but if you need this list, you've got a lot to learn about necros that I'm not gonna teach here):

* All charm spells are alteration. Charm is how high-end necros get AA (unless they feel like getting it slower for some reason)
* All lifetaps and lifetap dots are alteration
* Mind Wrack (group mana tap) is alteration and is pretty much required in many raid situations
* All debuffs are alteration
* Roots are alteration
* Slows are alteration

Conjuration is very nice at the highest end of necromancer play, but never quite nice enough to make it worth giving up the mana benefit for alteration.

The other thing to keep in mind is that, for the most part, if you're smart you save the biggest dots for the heavy fighting, and cast longer duration, cheaper, lower agro dots when fights are slow and nukes and lifetaps when fights are fast.

actually I have enough mana to just use my hard hitting spells all the time, i dont like to beat around the bush with a mob and am very good at using FD to get the agro off of me. Even from summoning mobs. I dont puss out and use a lower level spell that wont agro, that aint my job ;)

All I can say is I'm in love. Second person with this spell on my server and it is very nice. 470mana for 430dmg / tick 5 ticks. Its listed under my magic based dot list using the LoY automem thing (thats the technical name if ya didnt know). But wait, there's more the spell particles have not been forgotten with this spell. Pretty nice red and blue colors around your hands as you cast, then a clear globe with lightning forms around the vicitms head and a large black halo around the globe. Cast this spell once in BoT and ppl were damn near dropping on the ground in worship of me /cackle

ahh yes forgot to mention it is sold in everfrost, Cost is 650 adventure points from there.

Its only a LDoN spell, first line of "Curse" spells for shaman's as well as other casters. Should be intresting to see how this will effect the game a 3rd dot for shamans = wow on DPS

I agree though for 5 dots others just extra (Saryn, Embracing, FP and Horror) set a FD spell an instant DD lifetap Zevfree's (group lifetap) and Mindwrack (group mana) bests on slots now thats a good 8 slot spells
Before folks get worked up...

Remember that this data is not even suppose to be released. I imagine that this is a LDoN spell, and that it was copied from one of the first poison dots that a shaman gets. The mana usage was changed, but thats as far as the programmer got perhaps. Then poof, a snapshot is taken and the data goes to Testing... course it doesnt matter, the spell isnt in the game yet.

Just wait and see after it changes. It might not even be poison based.
maybe in the future
# Jul 30 2003 at 11:08 AM Rating: Decent
Possible a glimpse at a LDoN spell? the mana cost and casting time is in keeping with the level, but the damage is more like a 9th level spell.

we may never see this spell in reality.
what is the point
