Zone in from Gunthak, big building on left go inside, take the ladder upstairs.
THe mobs you want, are all inside the mines. I just took my 75 necro and invised to them, tagged them, and ran them back to the IZ, and killed them...and the associated train, and logged beastlord in and let him loot.

No one ever goes there. It's pretty safe to do it. And anyone that did go there, wouldn't loot that from your mobs.

Otherwise, you're gonna have to kill a whole lot of mobs you don't need, to get to those enforcers. Even invis, when you tag 'em, there's mobs around them that aggro ..and at the level you need this spell, I think it's close to suicide, solo. Incidently, (and don't get me wrong.) I have this and have been using it in POI, and from 50 - 57 it's pretty worthless. It either gets resisted, or it does so little damage, it doesn't matter. I've been nuking them with the other poison dots.... Those stick much better. At least from 50 - 57.
Where are the mines?

Can someone tell me where the mines are, they are not shown on the map from Mapfiend. Actually, ther are a lot of maps from them that still have the white outlines for zones so you need to be 2 inches from the monitor to see them.

Not coordinates please, I got lost trying to figure out how to work out what direction I was going when trying to find the injured wolf. If a friend hadn't helped, I'd still be looking now near the crypt entrance now instead of in the fort.

It's not like you can display current coordinates permanently on screen so you can see where you're going. You have to keep stopping to get the current ones and work out where you need to go from there. It's downright archaic since it would be easy to have them displayed on a mouseover on the map window.

Pick the nearest landmark like the fort, the crypt entrance or something and tell me north or west from there.
Easy quest.

I found black powder without even muttering a word to Caegin, everyone is right about where the drop occurs, just inside the entrance of mines, but the drop is trigered by killin the 1st troll you see 2 times, not by killin all the trolls in the cave. I know this cause thats what i did. Either it drops the 1st time you kill it or it will more likely drop the 2nd time you kill it, btw i only had to kill 4 trolls near entrance(got mobbed) and i did it solo with 56 BST.
So my advice is to camp entrance and wait for repop. It doesnt seem to help anything killin all 15 trolls in the area near entrance. Got my dust and actually all you have to do is like 2 of the last dialogues and give him the powder and you get the spell.

Every Bst will want this spell, its a stacking dot, but hard to cast if your conjurer is lower than 125, also it does like 30- 60 dmg (lvl 40-50) per tick for 9 ticks, stacks with most poison dots as well. It adds 3 to your disease counter as well.

Hope this helps some as most Bst that completed it will tell you its that easy to get the drop.
Easy quest.

sorta dpends if the RNG is smiling on you or not.

i'd like to add, this dot is pretty handy for working with root classes--b/c it does no initial damage, it doesn't break root.
No Drop

Yes, spell is No Drop or as of 2/1/06 it is.

Someone in Dulak actually laughed at me for attempting this at lvl 44/45, but I got it. Of course I did have some high end help, which I explained to them.

It took about 20-30 mins and probably 15 kills on the Dulak Harbor side before it dropped. In that time the ranger epic loot also dropped (too bad my ranger friend wasn't with me.)

I had a lvl 67 druid there with me as my support. We were grouped and I was still getting xp, so not too bad.

Of course, I went and gave the powder to my pet by accident when I was trying to give it to Craegan....thank goodness for /petition
Strange black powder

I cheated i'm afraid. I invised my Beastlord and ran her to just inside the mine entrance on the Dulak Harbor side. Then I got my Mage and she had pet kill the bruisers. Powder dropped twice in 2 hours. 1st time body was too far for BL to get to, well actually was too far for BL get away from after she lost her invis. Mage killed all the miners in the pathway that werent "resistance" miners ( they wont agro like the others )kept killing miners until I had a clear path i.e. nothing but resistance miners so that if I got lucky, BL could go loot without having to fight miners. Mage pulled Bruisers to enrance, pet killed them, and when powder dropped, Beastlord looted powder. I had two drops in less than 3 hours. dont know if thats average or what....... based on my experience, I would that is an uncommon drop.. but NOT a rare drop. I would say this also.... I think SOE got the drop environments reversed.. The L52 should quested inside the mines and the L44 spell should quested at the stockade on the way to Dulaks.

Got this yesterday on my first bruiser kill in the caves of torgiran. I simply took my 65 wiz alt, nuked the bruiser then logged to my beast, invised and looted this spell. Works great, the extra DPS is always a plus. Now I need to work on Bond of the Wild.

Is it No Drop or can i buy from a trader in Baz?
malaria -> fizzle city
# Jul 14 2004 at 11:13 AM Rating: Default
This spell fizzles like crazy. Have attempted to cast it maybe 50 times and actually cast it twice! Trying to cast it can drain my mana pool to zero real fast.

Have used sicken and tainted breath since I got them on virtually every mob with few fizzles. Note both these have a 25 fizzle adjust in Lucy's data base. Malaria has a fizzle adjust of 5!

Don't know what my conjuration skill level is at, think something like 156. Guess it's time to summon water and food till I max conjuration, but I was very disappointed that after obtaining this spell at level 45, I haven't been able to use it for the last week.

It doesn't matter what order you get the two BST quested spells. I got the Malaria spell recently and never did the Bond of the Wild quest. It sounds like some of you are lucky and others it may take awhile to get the "Strange Dark Powder", but hey, whatever, just get it, it is well worth it. I soloed in the mines from 54 to 56 and got great XP, even worked on AA's and made Baron. Great place to work on AA's even for higher lvl toons. If you can get through the mines to a big open area (not sure what this place is) where there is a bridge over a lava river and plenty of mobs that have a low argo area, unlike thoes in the mines itself, you can do very well in there, plenty of safe spots to camp out. A 65 Cleric and 65 Monk friends of mine made great AA xp and all mobs coned DB to them, which was odd because they coned DB to me at lvl 56. Anyway,if you, nevermind, when you clear the mobs in this area, cross over the bridge and clear the other side, there is a door to other parts. This is a great place to goto to get more XP and AA's, just make sure you have a good healer and a ROG to sense traps (there are a few), and at least 2 good tanks. Eventually you will come up on a door that will lead you down some steps after you've cleard a few rooms, these steps will bring you to a long cave like hall, there you will find a but load of mobs and named mob at the other end. You can't target him until you've cleared the entire hall at least once. It dosen't mater if they pop back, just clear one side and then the other. There are fire pits along the sides around which you will see three (3) mobs per pit, as you get down to the last 3 or so mobs you will notice the fires go out, at this point you will be close to finishing the clearing stage. As soon as the last of the mobs are gone you will be able to target the named, not to hard to take out with a good group, coned white to me at lvl 56. HOWEVER.....as soon as he is gone another mob BOSS will pop, he coned yellow to me and wiped us out like it was cool:( He can summon and send you across the room at will, if you end up across the room, pay attention to where you've landed, don't try to run back without looking where you are, you may end up right next to one of the fire pits where 3 other mobs will have re-poped. Again most have a low argo area so if you avoid them, you might be able to return to the fight with out any tagalongs. I really got alot of XP and AA's in this area of the mines and plan on going back for more in the near future. Some nice drops as well.
A mixed group of mid 50's through low 60's would do very well here.

Also, the drop i ended up getting WAS off the first bruiser by the entrance. This looks like a trend, so maybe that is the one that always drops the powder.

Just a thought.

Where is the Injured wolf
# Feb 04 2004 at 7:01 PM Rating: Default
Okay I've been clearing the whole first row... especially the third house on the left and right. I haven't seen this injured wolf. Anyone have any idea about the spawn rate? Does it roam? Will any of the mobs around it attack?

Not sure if they changed the drop rate or if I just got damn lucky, but we had 2 drop in less than 2 hours tonight. Also had 2 of the gleaming ore drops for the chanter spell.

This is after 4 nights of at least 4 hours each and not seeing any =P

Ah well, gl all

Updates?
# Nov 13 2003 at 3:31 AM Rating: Decent
Apparently it only takes 1 "Strange Black Powder" to get this quest.

What I want to know is: as of November 13, 2003. Is it fixed yet that you get Malaria before Bonds of the Wild?

If not, that's gay. But what am I complaining for? Nobody will heed this message and change it. So I'll shut up, now.

I helped a 52 Beastlord get it took us about two hours and he just turn the black dust in and got his spell. You do need full group at least an average of 45-48. We had a 49 druid, 53 bst, 48 ranger, 54 and 58 magician

How we got Malaria
# Aug 05 2003 at 6:35 AM Rating: Decent
I just helped a fellow guild member get his Malaria and Bond of the Wild spells last night. I will share how we did it, with no problems whatsoever.

You must do this quest in an exact order. First, you must hail Craegin Coldtongue to start the spawn. (See Bond of the Wild posts for info on him) Follow through with his chat function until he sends you on Bond of the Wild quest. You must finish and receive Bond of the Wild before you can get the Black Powder.

Once you have received the Bond of the Wild scroll, he will talk to you about "draw", and when you finish that chat function, the Black Powder will spawn on one of many bruisers in the mines.

If you do the quest in the correct order, talking to Craegin as you are supposed to, you should have no problems with this spell.

We went into the mines with a Noble Fist guild group consisting of: 51 Beastlord, 52 Wizard, 48 Paladin, 46 Ranger, and 42 Druid. Even with a lower level Druid healer, this quest wasn't bad at all.

This spell is very attainable with a solid 44 level group, working together.

Why level 44
# Jun 30 2003 at 5:14 AM Rating: Decent
Very simple !
This spell has been made level 44 for a simple purpose: your Focus Effect II (Affiction Efficiency, Mana Preservation etc.) still include this spell.
I think it's really great. I can still use my Fine Cut Ring and not worry about upgrading it for anything with Mana Preservation III. I wish all my spells of lvl 50+ been designated as 44 :)

I spent 3 hours in Torgiran's Mine attempting to get this "Black Powder." My party (a 65 shammy, 51 Wizzy and 51 Beastlord), must have killed at least 20 or so Bruisers and not one drop. Got plenty of keys to give to resistances miners. Too bad I am not in this zone for Experience (you get it from giving them the keys). Anyway, the wonderful designers of Everquest are "SADISTS." Why is it at level 44 I was EASILY able to get the Level 52 spell "Bond of the Wild", but, at level 51 I cannot get my level 44 spell. This is a joke. Thanks for the Fustration. God, I love this game. What a stress reliever. LOL
