Did this quest today with my 42nd season ranger. Great area for a ranger to solo and gain good exp. Most mobs on the beach can be kited dow to at least 80% with a single root-shoot-snare-shoot-dot-shoot-shoot ... I have hunted here until 44 and moved on to higher grounds. The captured drops about every 10ish Nifilks and the tiny drops every 15 to 20ish.

Happy hunting fellow rangers.

Finally did this last night as a level 49 Ranger. Grouped with a 39 chanter, and we just hung out on the corner of the beach behind the wrecked boat root/dot'ing mobs and taking it easy. There were no nifiliks up when we arrived and we only pulled from nearby to that area so it was slow going for the first 20 or 30 minutes, but once they started popping their spawn rate seemed to just keep bulding up momentum. It took about an hour or hour and a half altogether to get the two drops. Got the spell, and went back to the beach to root/dot some more until the chanter dinged 40 since she was close. Man, the niffies were popping left and right by then, we were even getting nifilik adds. It sure was fun stacking all three DOT's and ensnaring roots, and it sure upset those mobs to be burned, bitten and stabbed with thorns. :) The nifilik's hit harder than other mobs in that area, so bringing a buddy and root/dot'ing sure increased my kill efficiency since I could med while the spells did their work, and we didn't have to worry about healing at all. Levitate is nice to have there too.

It took about 20 hours over 2 weeks for me to get the two quest items. Sure is nice to have that DoT.

Anyone got any info on how high conjuration needs to be for this to work reliably? Finally find that stinging swarm works reliably up about 130+ skill...

Feedback appreciated.

To find out the skill level of a spell, I use the following:
(Spell Level)x5 + 5

This is actually only the skill cap for the level the spell was first available, but it should work fairly well at that skill level. You may, however, be able to cast it somewhat reliably at about 10 to 20 points less than this figure.

44 x 5 + 5 = 225

This formula isn't a rule, but it gives a quick way to estimate your skill needs. I hope this helps.
A FUNNY STORY?
# Jul 30 2003 at 2:43 AM Rating: Good
I finally got the darn NO DROPS for this Quest and have tried out the spell and it's pretty cool Smiley: yippee

Not to shabby a 44 Ranger having 43 Hit Points worth of DOT's to play with!

The actual reason I am posting though is the funny way I got the NO DROP's...so here is the "rest of the story" Smiley: smile

As I posted before I spent a total of four hours today and another two tonight hunting the Nifilik's on the South Beach. Was doing pretty good and felt I had the area figured out pretty well as far as where to pull from and to and such. Still did not have either of the NO DROP items however was getting XP & loot and happily killing Nifilik's...just not the right ones.

Well agro is a mysterious thing at times? I soon found myself with about 45% health running from three snared creatures (one Scorpion and two Nifilik's) and on the dock at the Lighthouse Island almost at the zone line, when all of a sudden I get rooted? Then DOT'ed twice?

Lo and behold a darn Iksar Necro is at the other end of the dock and my Hit Points are fading faster than a Halfling with a level 60 SOW Smiley: frown

Next thing I know the Scorpion and Nifilik's join the party and start chewing at my legs! The Iksar...noticing what the heck he has done quickly realizes he is about to ruin his reputation with an XP kill so he fears two of the creatures but not the third one in time Smiley: cry

Now I am obviously not a "happy camper" to say the least. First off I almost deleveled to 43, second I hate when people jump you when your lower than 50% health. Now what is the first thing that comes out of my mouth to the Iksar?

"Hey don't kill the Nifilik's I need those!"

The irony is he agrees to give me the drops from the Nifilik's as he felt bad for the XP kill. The true irony though? The two Nifilik's that he feared off of me...Each one had one of the NO DROP's on them...now that is nuts!

I guess my point is that it's all random luck which I obviously did not have today...or did I?

Yahoo! After a week of playing and killing on the beach, I was finially able to get both parts of the quests. I got 3 tinys before I got 1 captured. The xp wasn't bad and desent loot to boot. I went from low 43 to low 44 here. Becareful, I also died twice, ouch.

I simply took my 45 ranger and got both the drops in about 30 mins. All the mobs are random spawns including the undeadm so when no more nifliks on track go around the beach and kill stuff. The right side near the wall has a lot of possible niflik spawns. look for all the big shipwrecked ships and there should be some mobs around the bottom of them, kill the mobs, nifliks usually spawn at base of ships

well following the info in the last post I went to the far right hand wall and killed one niflik first one dropped both for me as well.. happy hunting.
Did I get lucky or what?
    # Jun 10 2003 at 12:50 AM Rating: Good
Tried for this spell tonight even though I still have 4 yellows before I reach 44. Took a 48 Warrior and a 38 Cleric with me. The first nifilik we killed dropped BOTH the tiny and captured nifiliks. And, we never lost more than 20% HP without the heals from the cleric. It actually toook longer to swim over than it did to get the items. Ended up staying for a while and went to town. FYI- The one we killed was on far right side of beach between wall and boat.
    Random Nifilicks?
    # Jun 05 2003 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
I finally got LoY the other day and wanted to get this new DOT spell, since it is WAY better than Stinging Swarm. I killed nifilicks (and everything else on the beach) the first night with no drops (except bile and barbs). The second night I hunted the same way and never saw more than 2 of them up at one time. I did get the Captured Nifilick though. I went LD while hunting with my guild mates (sorry guys) and couldn't get back on (I thought the 1018 problem was fixed?) Today, I went home for lunch and just thought I would see if I survived going LD. When I logged on, the beach was FULL of Nifilicks (meaning 7-8 of them). I killed them all and on the last one I got the Tiny Nifilick. Total time - about 15 minutes. Go figure.

So, anyway, all that to say I have NO idea what controls the spawn rate or the drop rate. I am glad I have my new spell though!

Did this today, I think any mob on the beach is a random spawn in any spot. I was clearing the shoreline and they popped all up and down. Took about 2 hrs, got tiny nifilick first then captured. Also be sure to say "why do you want to mimic them"; he doesn't respond if you just say "mimic" or "what mimic" or something

Well I have spent 4 hours today killing Nifilik's and getting no DROP at all Smiley: banghead! That's ok I'm gonna keep at it and I will take the advice of sticking to the wall and killing the other "non-undead" Creatures. Wish me luck!

On the flipside this zone is really pretty cool. Good XP and decent loot so even if it takes a while at least the time to hunt on the beach is not wasted time Smiley: smile

    The Drop of the Tiny's
    # Apr 16 2003 at 12:01 PM Rating: Decent
My Level 51 Ranger got this spell the other day. The captured as you know from below is more common, I had 3 drop in the time I had I tiny drop. You just need to kill everything that is NOT undead on the beach as these will respawn into differnet creatures. So Just be patient and it will fall.

Sidenote: Any niflik barbs that drop, save for selling in the bazaar. Awesome items for rogue throwing.
RE: The Drop of the Tiny's
    # Apr 29 2003 at 2:59 AM Rating: Decent
Not sure if the captured really drop more than the tiny ones. I had three Tiny ones drop before I got the captured one.

I killed all of the spawns on the beach and had at least one Nifilik spawn each round of respawns.

Who can guess the god's power on drop rates. I would almost say its completely random.
Where have all the Tiny Nifiliks gone!
    # Apr 11 2003 at 11:35 AM Rating: Decent
I've now spent 3 nights and 3 entire loads of kei killing every Nifilik on the beach and have yet to see the Tiny one drop. I have 2 Captured ones now. Does this seem extreme to anyone else trying this quest? I'm constantly using ooc to see if anyone else has looted one, and they seem to have dried up.

I'm enjoying my time on the beach because its great mob level for a mid 40s ranger, but I'm getting a little p.o.'d at the time involved in hunting this one thing. The posts where people got them right away seem to be from some time ago...was just wondering if anyone's looted one quickly in the past few weeks.

    Peace,

Both the captured and tiny Nifliks (spelling) can be found on the beach of Gunthak. I walked around for about 2 hours and got both these items quite easy. At level 52, when I completed the quest I got about 1/3 blue of level experience. This is the most exp I've seen from completing a quest at this level.
    Quested
    # Feb 24 2003 at 9:39 PM Rating: Decent
This spell is quested. Talk to Gaudric Stormwynd in Gulf of Gunthak and he'll tell you that he needs a captured nifilik and a tiny nifilik. They are found on the beach across the water. If you swim to your left looking at the lighthouse from the boat, you will find the beach. The nifilik's where light blue and green to a lvl 50 ranger. Good luck, took a while to get both componets.

This may be a popular theory now, but my guess is this:

With LOY(Legacy of ykesha) coming out in a few weeks, this may be one of the "new spells" which are offered with the purchase and subsequent downloading of this new expansion. it's speculation at best, but it answers why it's supposedly only on test at this moment.

Hopefully we'll find out as information on this expansion becomes available from verant.

One of the other rangers in my guild and I have spent a while checking all the ranger guild halls and the vendors in Shadowhaven and PoK looking for this. Makes me think that it hasn't gone live yet. Still, it will be a nice spell when and if it does. Make up in a small part for that nuke of harmony, although I don't think that will ever fully be made up for.

I noticed that seekers says this spell went live on the 9th, but I can't find it anywhwere. is this a drop spell or can it be purchased? Oh, where does it say that it has gone live too. I can't find any reference to it being activated.
