The two effect completely different spells, it's like asking if a dex buff and an agi buff stack.
burning vs accursed
# Jan 21 2005 at 6:59 PM Rating: Default
does anyone see the effective difference between accursed affliction and burning affliction IV?
for the record

burning affliction and extended affliction do indeed stack together. i have the ldon exended affliction iv augment and get the mage-summoned bracer whenever possible (til i can get the ba iv aug, anyway)

#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2004 at 2:44 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) They work together yeah but they don't stack. Stack would be like some sort of spell buff that increases DoT damage along with using an item with burning affliction...
focus effects question
# Apr 22 2004 at 1:15 PM Rating: Decent
Dumb question - but if I understand this right, focus effects stack - even though you only get one focus effect message? I have four items with focus effects. One some casts I would expect two of the effects to come into play - for instance Reagent conservation and shortened spell cast time. But I only see one effect message in my messages window. Are both really activating or am I misunderstanding how these things work.

I'll try to briefly explain focus messages.

Focus messages will usually only show up if the event that triggers them fires, AND if the effect they provide goes off. If these two checks both fire, you get a message. However, when these checks are performed is different for each focus.

Cast time focus: You'll get the message before the 'You begin to cast'.

Mana reduction focus: You'll get the message before the spell cast confirmation.

As an example, here is my normal message text for the spell 'Augment Death', using focus items

Quote:
Your Fine Cut, Diamond Inlaid Mask shimmers briefly -(Spell haste reduction checks)-
You begin casting Augment Death -(Spell casting starts)-
Your Obulus, Death Shroud flickers with a pale light -(Mana reduction checks on spell completion)-
Xebekn's eyes gleam with madness -(Spell complete)-

With reagent conservation items, I don't believe you'll see the message every time, only when it fires and saves you some reagents. The way it works is, Reagent Conservation gives you a chance for the spell not to consume whatever reagent it needs, so the focus will only fire based on that percentage. I think.

Hope that helps sort out the confusing messages.

Accursed Extension
# Feb 04 2004 at 10:40 PM Rating: Default
Does Burning Affliction IV stack with Accursed Extension (which is the Focus Effect of the "Staff of Lost Rituals" from VT). I've heard that it does and that it doesn't...anyone know for certain?

+Duration and +damage SHOULD stack. I know that the augment from BB LDoN with Extended Affliction and BA4 stack ...

They do NOT stack.

Saurom's reasoning is correct - +Duration and +Damage focus effects DO stack (as do my Crown of Ambivalence and a mage-summoned bracer - curse you impossible-to-get BA4 items!). However, when they "added" burning affliction by changing the existing +duration focus to +damage, they changed Accursed "Extension" into a similar +damage focus.

The only difference between BA4 and Accursed Extension is that the former works on 30+ second duration spells, while Accursed Extension works on 24.00+ second duration spells, making it more useful for extremely short duration DoTs. As a Shaman, my shortest duration DoT is the curse line: 5 ticks, or 30.00 seconds. There is no difference to me.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask - I may be found tromping around on Morell-Thule.
DoT Increase?
# Nov 26 2003 at 9:57 AM Rating: Default
From what everyone's saying below, this effect adds to DoT damage. From my experiences with ba4 (I can summon the steel bracelet) it only increases DD spell damage (~5-20%), but does nothing for DoTs. Can somone correct me on this?

It does indeed add to DoT damage. In fact, I get an item glow message not only on the initial dd part of my shammy dot, but a glow message for every tick that the dot does. Damage tends to vary wildly between the normal damage and +20% each tick, so you don't actually get +20% extra damage.

On average this is a 10% increase.
Does this work with bard songs?

I need to know if anyone knows if this works on Bard dots? Either Email me or just post here....

Focus effects on items don't work with bard songs. Only bard instruments can make their songs more effective

I was wondering if these effects can be stacked like Flowing thought? 20% from + 20% from another = 40% increased damage. I assume they don't but since I only have 1 item with it on it, and it does not always give a full 20%, but up to 20%, I was thinking maybe... Anyway if you know for sure please post.
Thanks

Focus effects do not stack with the same focus effect from another item.

This will stack with affliction efficency. The aff eff kicks in on the cast and this kicks in on each tick of the dot.
RE: Quick Question
# Feb 07 2004 at 3:22 AM Rating: Decent
Spell haste, damage, and efficiency all stack. I'm going to assume that extenders stack as rare (I do not have an extender so I could not tell you)
It was Extended Affliction
# Jul 30 2003 at 1:30 PM Rating: Good
This effect replaces the Extended Affliction line of focus effects. Instead of 20% extended duration you now get 20% more damage per tick.
#Diepen, Posted: Apr 19 2003 at 6:54 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Is it real or is it mesmerex? I have never seen an item with this effect, nor are any listed here, so what's up with that?
