Use your level 5 root spell on the mob. It gives you time to cast the spell but wears off fast.

Better yet, if you follow Tunare, do the Warden Symbol of Tunare quest in Felwithe. Its a simple quest to do in spare time, neck item with ok stats and right click Grasping Roots.

The lvl 52 (or 53?) charm spell was amazing solo exp, specifically in PoN. Anybody know any places this could be useful for good exp? Most of the charmable mobs I could find summon, which obviously leads to trouble when charm breaks, you get summoned and you've got a 70% hasted mob, plus the mob it was fighting, kicking the crap out of you.

Plane of Mischief. Much better than PoN, slightly better loots from named. Call of Karana works on all malodrous skunks, fetid skunks sometimes, but, not as long duration. I believe that this charm will work well on them, making a even better pet. Named give over a blue if you kill them and easily soloable with pet, except Lilinith. The raskals on the castle wall(invisible bridge to get up there) drops yaeths 73 right, used in remove greater curse. I got a copy, sold for 10k on Veeshan server. Any questions, ask me via tell or in a reply. ;tell Veeshan.Juion for any comments/questions.
Nasty bug with charm

I've noticed and tested a 'bug' using charm with my druid (I'm assuming it can happen to any class that can charm mobs though). This could be part of the normal programming but for the most part it creates huge problems and I will call it a bug from here on.

This bug can happen in any zone but here's a sample scenario:

There are two people in the Maiden's Eye zone, you and someone else. You find a spectral wolf to charm. You charm it and its now your pet. While you are having it fight off a single mob, a train is called by the other person. The other person runs to you and your wolf pet and has the train plow right into your wolf pet. You see that the wolf can't possibly fight an entire train and you egress leaving your charmed wolf pet getting clobbered by the mass of mobs in that train. You egress to a safe spot and clear yourself from the train's aggro list. (The wolf doesn't die though.)

So far, so good. The person that started the train zoned and you are now the only one in the zone. You see that the train dissipated and lo and behold you find your ex-pet just standing there from where he was getting a beatdown. You recharm him and he is once again your pet. However, within 1 minute of charming it you see an even bigger train is coming from the horizon straight for you...how could that be when you are the only one in the zone?!

The 'bug' or problem is this: While you cleared yourself of the train's aggro list, the train of mobs still had the charmed wolf on it's list. The train had two targets on it's hate list before you egressed which is 1. YOU and 2. the CHARMED version of the spectral wolf. The charmed version makes it have the same faction level as a PC (in this case it would be you). You might have cleared aggro yourself, but the charmed version of the wolf didn't.

This bug however also affects whoever tries and charm the previously-charmed wolf. Someone else besides you can charm the wolf and then see a huge train coming for them even though they haven't even been in the zone to see any of the mobs. Once the wolf is charmed again, the mobs then check its aggro lists and sees that the CHARMED version of the wolf is a target again. Even one mob that had the charmed version of the wolf on it's aggro list can create a huge train. This then snowballs and makes the charmed version of the wolf appear on multiple hate lists which also makes you appear on the lists as well. Not until the mobs are dead or the spectral wolf is dead that this list gets erased. It doesn NOT get erased through time.

I sometimes noticed this in PoDisease with the rats. I would charm a rat and about a minute later I would see a train of mobs barrel down on my pet from out of nowhere. It meant that whoever had the rat pet before me either died, zoned, or egressed abandoning the charmed rat with whatever it was fighting.

Whether or not this is an intentional part of the program, it still makes some very unfair gameplay and training. Test this bug out for yourself or with a friend, go to a zone with weak animals and mobs. Tiny companion your charmed pet and have it go bite every mob you can find, then break charm while it has a train on top of it and zone. Rezone and look for your TC'd ex-pet. Have your friend charm your ex-pet and watch a train build on it again.

This explains my experiences in CoD (64 chanter here.) I zoned out on a bad pull, and the moment I re-charmed the ex-pet I got a train.

So, confirmed: other mobs retain hate for charmed pets after charm breaks, and if you re-charm the same mob (even after zoning out) they will re-aggro from a long way off.

I doubt there are 2 versions of your pet (charmed and uncharmed) and other mobs have the charmed version on their hate list. That's too weird and complicated...more likely there's only one version and it works like this: Mobs still hate your ex-pet after it breaks, but they'll stop attacking because it's not a valid target anymore, until/unless somebody charms it again.

There's another thing about charm to be aware of, especially if you inherit a camp from a chanter who was charm soloing. When charm breaks, the ex-pet keeps all its buffs and debuffs! This means haste will persist for, oh, 30 minutes. This is handy if the pet is banged up. Between fights I can zone out, med a little, come back in, and re-charm the same mob. It'll be at 100% health and still have tash and haste on it.

I do try to warn people who move in while I'm out. I suspect most chanters are not so nice to the druid or group displacing them, so be careful inheriting a camp from a soloing chanter. You may inherit a hasted mob.

Are you sure the charmed pet will port with you? I expect it to EVAC with me, but not to port to PoK.

Charmed pets wont follow you when you zone ...
This is because you would need to have the pet caracteristics (ie meshes, textures ...) come from the zone you zone out, in the zone you zone in ...

This is why charmed pet will never come with you ..

I believe it was first stated the almost all of the best 61+ charm spells would go up to lvl. 67 enemies.

Unless it goes up with caster level, it is lower than 61.

Could not Charm Ice Burrower at level 63 with this. I have seen Chanters charm IB's, but Druids cannot. Yes - Ice Burrowers are animals. =).
