That's not really big, the problem here is more like the dispel and ATK debuff, a 2kish DD AE is common on elemental planes (Grioin the Wise in PoW has one, with a stun to boot, PoFire's Blazzax the Omnifiend has a 2k DD AE too)

Spellshield should help. I know runes do also. But unless you can cast them that don't matter.

2k is nothing. At least it is not something like 500/tic mana or hps likes some are. In those cases the damage though slower is much more severe. Solusek Ro ae is near unresistable and 3k ( 1000 x 3 ) but dodgeable. Same with Fennin 3kae avoidable using range.

Coirnav dies so fast that if you are getting hit by a second ae you are probably going to lose for taking to long. An all out Discipline and burning down should take under 30 seconds.

You can do a few things to counter high dmg AEs...

1. The obvious, resist buffs if it's actually possible to resist it, and in a lot of cases with POP mobs it isn't really. Put bards in the groups with the MA or clerics for resist song.

2. Range fight. Like with Fennin Ro, keep everyone out of the AE and using range attacks.

3. MGB Heals. Have your clerics etcetera save their MGBs when the raid is forming and do all buffs by individual group. Then MGB heals during the course of the fight to keep the raid alive and the DPS going.

And, like with Coirnav and some other mobs with massive dmg AEs, it is compensated for balance wise by their having relatively low hitpoints - so if you go all out DPS very early (pop disciplines, nuke, whatever) you can kill the mob fast enough so that they don't have too many opportunities for their AE to go off.
