Spell Combines
# Jan 28 2004 at 10:24 PM Rating: Decent
I tried to create this spell in the Warlock's Book of Binding and received 'can not combine these objects in a container of this type'. Never having used a geerlok quill before I had substituted it for the quill in the book. I later learned that the geerlok quill, like all geerlok items, is equipped giving the stat bonus while a regular quill is still necessary for the combine.

Anyway that was my tradeskill n00b lesson for the day, thought I would share in case there are any other tradeskill neophytes running around out there.

Dot duration error
# Dec 19 2003 at 6:29 AM Rating: Decent
Lucy has bad math, Funeral Pyre = 10 ticks or 2610 total dmg w/o any focus or extension. Do not reply and confuse people by arguing with this post until you cast the spell with dot dmg enabled and hand count the ticks.

You have aroused my curiosity. Is it that the spell *lasts* for 54 seconds but does damage at the beginning and end resulting in 10 times of doing damage? Or is this a bug in EQ or a "poor man's encryption" as Smedly put it, where soe was ******** with numbers in spdat.eff?

There used to be a bug where bolt spells would somtimes do damage twice to mobs that were moving and on an incline (either up or down a hill). I know that at the exact moment that a dot wears off it does damage... Now I have to research this :)

Coldain Military Wristguard has BA3 not BA4. Regardless it is an excellent item for DOT classes.

It's 10 ticks. Here's an extract from my Necro's log of a few hours ago (he has a Coldain Military Bracer - Burning Affliction IV focus - which is why the damage varies).

[Tue Feb 17 09:25:16 2004] You begin casting Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:20 2004] A swamp rat is enveloped in a funeral pyre.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:26 2004] A swamp rat has taken 272 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:32 2004] A swamp rat has taken 287 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:38 2004] A swamp rat has taken 290 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:44 2004] A swamp rat has taken 264 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:50 2004] A swamp rat has taken 295 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:25:56 2004] A swamp rat has taken 274 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:26:02 2004] A swamp rat has taken 292 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:26:08 2004] A swamp rat has taken 269 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:26:14 2004] A swamp rat has taken 308 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:26:20 2004] A swamp rat has taken 280 damage from your Funeral Pyre of Kelador.
[Tue Feb 17 09:26:20 2004] Your Funeral Pyre of Kelador spell has worn off.

Total of 10 ticks in which damage is done, for a total of 2,831 damage; efficiency is 6.29 damage per mana - or 7.08 with an Affliction Efficiency III/IV focus.
I love this spell
# Nov 24 2003 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
I love this spell. It is almost never resisted except in the case of same major named mob. If I only had one DoT to put up (excluding a lifetap one), this would be it so far. Does very good dmg and seldom resisted; what more could ya' want?
#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 03 2003 at 7:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I had all 4 words to combine and a person of 210 research failed ............ I cant understand why a spell like that would have a 70% chance or succeding kinda dumb if you ask me
Cost to cast vs Blood of Thule
# Oct 16 2003 at 1:57 PM Rating: Decent
Blood of thule is a more powerful, more efficient spell than this, but not by an awful lot, and here's the kicker: this has a -100 resist check, where BoT has -50. If you don't have HEAVY resist debuffs on the mobs, then you're going to end up spending more mana overall on BoT than on FPoK.

When that extra mana can be put into a kill-shot nuke, you begin to see why I would care :)

However, in general practice I'll probably switch to BoT once I'm 65, and bring BOTH up for boss mobs (keeping FD handy for that rather serious agro I'll be generating).

Right now, I'm only 61 and I just grabbed this puppy for 20k... can't wait to get home tonight and try it out!
Spell Cost

This uber spell goes for 50k on Luclin, I myself got it for 44k. You're better off buying the words, I've seen all of the words except torment in the bazaar each for about 2-3k. So start lookin, you'll save a ton =P

I hear you can research now?? Does anyone know the pages needed to research this??
dont really wanna pay the 20k for it...

the best dot we get.
# Jan 06 2003 at 1:33 PM Rating: Good
yes, we get a 2300pt dot at 65. it only takes Blood of Thule 42 seconds to work too, and with focii itll be even more powerful. however, hear me out before you cry foul.

the level 60 dot does 2160 damage in 54 seconds, at 450 mana cost. the 65 dot does 2300ish for 500ish mana, in 42 seconds. fire dots dont get resisted nearly as much on normal mobs as poison ones do. i notice i generally have to use my Scent line of spells before trying to land Ebolt or Neurotoxin on a lot of things, or have a shaman malo it or whatnot. on sheer resists for poison dots, you use a lot MORE mana that you normally would when using FP< as it isnt resisted nearly as much.

also, look at the spell class each uses. 65 dot uses conjuration, a specialization very few necros went with if at all. so most of the time we will use the full 500ish mana to cast this spell. however funeral pyre is alteration, a spell spec most necros went with. its our lifetaps, our pet buffs, our stat taps, our better dots.. we went with alteration for the most part. so a lot of the time, ESPECIALLY with spell casting mastery, we use less than the 450 mana price tag listed.

finally, Blood of Thule is a level 65 spell.. focus items for the 61+ spells (and i mean good ones too, not those crappy player made ones) are very scarce unless youre in a high level guild that does VT or higher planes. Funeral Pyre is level 60, and therefore can be used with older world focus items i.e. Circlet of the Falinkan, Bone Clasped Girdle, Neverderia's Left Eye, Gem Encrusted Ring, etc. vessels to make this spell more effective are more plentiful than with BoT.

i am not yet 65, and do not have this spell yet. however i DO have funeral pyre, and i see this spell like i saw having a car. how the hell did i ever survive without one?

That's all fine and dandy if you have FPoK. On Veeshan some idiot is selling FPoK for 85k. Now it's a great spell, but not worth two Fungi tunics. Granted our server has the, if not one of the, most screwed up economies in the game, it's still a difficult spell to come by. I have seen only two on sale on our server before both 50+kpp.

As of yesterday this spell, and very many other NPC drops have been made researchable if you have the Ykesha expansion. That should drop prices soon :)
