The price of the spell KEI irrelevant to the KEI page!?

As far as the 600pp price, yes it is a good price especially considering what it sold for (on average) before the new regen system. With the new regen system (and other classes owning high level mana regen spells/AAs) it is not in such high demand anymore. Too bad. I once had dreams of leveling a Chanter to 60, getting this spell, sitting in PoK all night, every night, and taking a bath in all the plat I would make.

After being on a several year hiatus, I guess I will not be able to also
enjoy the plat shower when I get lvl 60, learn spell and snooze in PoK. Still a good spell though. :) Hopefully can still use it as incentive to get invited into groups/raids/etc.

current recipe for KEI
# Jan 10 2008 at 12:30 PM Rating: Decent
the current recipe for
Koadic's Endless Intellect is

1 fine runic papyrus
1 ink additive of the nameless
1 ink of the dal
1 ink of the erudite
2 ink of prexus
1 quill of the coercer
1 debilitating thickener

trivial is 224

the debilitating thickener was supposed to be changed in dec07, but has not happened as yet.I would assume to talisman thickener.

i finally got my chanter up to level 60 after a laughable amount of time. i was so excited, i thought i could finally earn a little plat. (business isn't exactly booming for porting druids anymore) sooo....

i set up my chanter in PoK and /ooc. only NOW a regular kei isn't as desirable as the extended kei! by the time i am able to cast extended, i'm sure there will be something new and better. Smiley: oyvey

True, but AA's provide more extension than the best of focus effects. Most expect both AA and focus extension on a "good" C3. Hey, its rough! Still, the mage-summoned focus is a good idea to fill that part of the requirement.

LVL 40 Chanter, when would this stick on me? was told 46 but wouldnt that make C2 pointless. I can get KEI at 46 and dont get to mem C2 till 52 whats the point of even trying to get C2 spell when KEI is so abundent (spelling I know).
# Feb 10 2004 at 10:43 PM Rating: Excellent
It will stick on you at 45+ the pt of C2 is that it can be cast by a lower lvl chanter can't it? therefor when a grp member doesn't get a KEI ahead of time or it falls in the middle of grp, C2 is there to hold the person over.

Also the ppl who designed this game don't do it with the idea in mind that ppl hang out in PoK and buff. They design so that each character/group is self sufficient.

KEI and Stacking of Extensions (AAExp and Extended Enhanceme
# Nov 04 2003 at 2:17 PM Rating: Decent
17 posts
There is a debate currently raging on my server among the various vendors of Koadic’s Endless Intellect regarding the actual duration of the spell based on the stacking (or lack of same) of the extensions in duration provided by the various Alternative Advancement abilities (“AAExp”) and Extended Enhancement Items. This plays out when the vendors are hawking their good by descriptions of the amount of the extension – 15%, 50%, 65% and even 70%.

My apologies in advance if definitive answers to the questions I pose below are contained elsewhere on this site. If so a link to such definitive answers in a reply to this message would be appreciated.

According to what I have been able to divine from various websites, after spending the appropriate number of AAExp points in Spell Casting Reinforcement (“SCR)”) and Spell Casting Reinforcement Mastery (“SCRM”), an enchanter’s beneficial spells will have their duration extended by 50% longer than the base duration. I have also seen posts that indicate that the Extended Enhancement Items available DO stack with these AAExp extensions. Thus, according to this calculus, an enchanter who had so maxed out their AAExp in these areas and possessed an item that granted a 15% extension (Amulet of Insight, Ceramic Shield of Valor, etc.) or, for the very diligent a 20% extension (Blessed Coldain Prayer Shawl – 8th in quest) should experience a combined extension of 65% or 70%.

From what I have discerned from the various haggling, name calling, taunts and, well you get the picture, among the various vendors is a mish mash of conflicting claims regarding such calculations, to wit:

1) 50% is the MAXIMUM Extension achievable, i.e. once you have maxed your AAExp the extension items do not add any benefit. This would be a real nasty result as that would mean in effect that once you hit 30% through maxing and possessed a 15% item, (thus were at 45%) you would only get an additional 5% by spending all your AAExp on SCRM (thus boosting you to the 50% mark which was the cap), or even worse, no benefit in the case of the Coldain Shawl?!?!?

2) Only the Coldain Shawl stacks with the AAExp benefits thus you can get 50% or 70% extensions but NOT 65%?

3) AAExp and extension items WILL stack but you must use an Extended Enhancement IV item to get the additional 15%. For “some reason” Extended Enhancement III items do not stack when casting KEI, even though they are supposed to affect spells of 60 and below?

4) There is a “hard coded” cap on KEI which sets the limit of its extension at 50%. I have not seen any postings that I could recognize to support this other than a discussion in the AAExp section on CastersRealm regarding SCRM - - - “This means that an Enchanters Koadics Endless Intellect Spell (Clarity 3) will last 3 hours 45 minutes as opposed to the normal 2 hours 30 minutes.” - - - which discussion does not address any stacking matters. Nor have I heard any debate or seen any posting as to whether any other spells are so capped.

Any accurate insights into these various claims, or Gasp! a definitive discussion of the stacking of AAExp, Extended Enhancement Items and any other Hard Cap Limits would be most appreciated.

My thanks to Xaanru for your posting regarding EQtraders. As I post this that site is again down (most unfortunately as I rely on that site for all my tradeskilling) so I will check them when it is up again.

In the mean time in the interest of determining an answer (and after more than one annoying conversation with what I call the Oracles of Ignorance) I actually performed a test. I cast KEI on myself and went about making Misty Thicket Picnics (in my pursuit of the elusive 250 GM skill level in Baking). I then parked my butt in an out of the way place in the PoK and went AFK for dinner. Pasted below is the edited (to remove obvious spam) log file from this time trial. At the time I cast this spell I have completed and spent the necessary Alternate Advanced Experience points for both Spell Casting Reinforcement (“SCR)”) and Spell Casting Reinforcement Mastery (“SCRM”), which together increase the duration of beneficial spells by 50% longer than the base duration. In addition I was wearing my Amulet of Insight which provides an additional extension of 15% for beneficial spells (Extended Enhancement III) of level 60 or below (KEI is level 60). I searched the log for the obvious indicia of KEI casting (“Your Mind Expands” or “Your Mind Returns to Normal”) to ensure there were no intervening interlopers casting it on me.

[Thu Nov 13 17:18:20 2003] You begin casting Koadic's Endless Intellect.
[Thu Nov 13 17:18:32 2003] Your mind expands beyond the bounds of space and time.
[Thu Nov 13 17:18:32 2003] Your Amulet of Insight sparkles.

. . . . . . . . …

[Thu Nov 13 21:28:08 2003] Your mind returns to normal.

As you can see from the clock times this single dose of KEI lasted for 4 hours 9.5 minutes or 249.5 Minutes. The base time for the KEI spell is 2.5 hours or 150 minutes. Doing the math, 150 x 1.65 = 247.5 If we allow for some possible lag (what, Lag in EQ? ? ?) I believe it is safe to conclude that the duration of this casting was extended by at least 65%.

I invite any lucky possessor of the Coldain Prayer Shawl (which provides a 20% extension) or the extremely fortunate possessor of one of the very rare items from the Plain of Time which have an effect that purportedly adds 25% !!!! (Choronostrum - http://lucy.fnord.net/spell.html?id=3846 ) such as the Pulsing Onyx Ring (http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=26993 ) and who also has maxxed their SCR and SCRM AAexp abilities to perform a similar test and report here if they can.

Just a Minor Note:

The reason KEI lasted longer than it was supposed to is because buff ticks are paused while zoning (and of course when you're logged out).

Although this spell is information is helpful, I have a 65 chanter on THE RATHE and use a Amulet of insight, one thing i have noticed is that when casting group buffs only the person I have targeted seems to benefit from extion of the amulet .. others are crying for more when Mine hasn't even started to flash (when I was the main target of the group buff).... go figure ... but WHO really cares .. the fact that it is extended is enough for me, I only take donations and don't demand any base amount .. hell I have gotten a fire beatle eye .. so does it really matter how much extion it is .. just play and have fun.

This is a great post, and I hope your data is correct, but the fundamental premise that you would notice someone else cast KEI on you is not correct. If have a beneficial spell already cast on you, and someone recasts it, you will NOT see a message. Since you already look very tranquil to everyone around you, it wouldn't make sense if you suddenly started looking very tranquil again. This appears to be the case with all beneficial spells in the chanter, shamy, and cleric lines.

# Feb 15 2004 at 2:21 AM Rating: Decent
I beg to differ on this, if one spell overrides the one that you have on atm, you will get a message that tells you that you have gotten it again ... ie. Your mind expands beyond space and time (KEI).
RE: KEI and Stacking of Extensions (AAExp and Extended Enhan
# Jul 03 2004 at 12:02 PM Rating: Default
Regardless of how many times you get the message, KEI doesn't refresh with a new casting. I know this from an experiment I ran as a favor to a chanter friend who didn't believe me. The KEI he offered, with extensions, was right around 3 hours. I ran completely through the first time, marking the times from the initial cast message to the "returns to normal" message. He then cast again, and exactly 2 hours since that cast he recast on me, saying again that my mind expanded or whatever... roughly an hour later (sitting in PoK tradeskilling) my KEI faded. He was running the same experiment on himself as well, so I'm reasonably sure that regardless of the message you don't get refreshed; so heed the chanter's words when he says to click off your old or you'll be wasting a donation.

I have confirmed that you get a message every time you get a beneficial spell cast on you. I tried this with both my magician and my enchanter, and each time I cast a spell on myself, or on my pet, I recieved the message "soandso looks tranquil" or "soandso is enveloped in flame".

Well, EQTraders site is down at the time I am posting this, or else I would link their page with the 8th shawl quest on it. According to EQTraders, which is one of the more reliable sources of EQ related info (IMO), the 8th shawl stacks with all AAs resulting in a Max buff extension of 70%. The wording seems to indicate that any Ext Enhancement item can go beyond the AA cap, with the caveat that only ONE item can be used.

Since EQTraders says thir info comes from the developers, I would tend to believe it, unless Sony says otherwise.

As far as a hard cap on KEI, never heard of one, but cannot say for a fact that there isn't one.

#REDACTED, Posted: Jun 15 2003 at 9:52 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I know there is a lot of whining about KEI. However, I do not agree with all the negative comments about Lower levels running around with lvl 60 buffs! I mean come on guys you can buy a toon off Ebay and other various places lvl 65! Let's talk the bazaar, 99% of all items can be bought in bazaar for half of what they use to sell for. You can buy Medium quality gear without spending 500p and your toon is twinked and able to hit 1-20 no problems! Without any buffs mind you... But they have to work for their Pp to buy that stuff. Nope not really! Most seasoned players will help Lower lvl toons out, and how many people do you see begging for 5-10p. Hour of that you got your pp right there.

You think soloing with a Druid is bad without KEI.. try it with a wizard. My wizard is level 34 and all his money and best experience comes from fighting HG's one HG takes a full bar of mana with KEI now that I can't get it what am I suppose to do. In fact this whole thing sucks for wizards. Almost every wizard I know started quad kiting at level 34 and they made fast experience it was great but now that there is no C3 they need to do it one at a time because nukes are stronger then AoE nukes. and also the porting, my best porting business was to the Nexus so people can renew or get a C3 but now since people can't until level 45 I'm losing half of my business!! not only can I not solo HG's but I don't get good ports anymore either. I think this whole thing sucks! I think that if they are going to make a level limit on it they should make it 20 or 30 at the highest you really need C3 after that not just at 45 and higher!

the whole point of the KEI "nerf" if you want to call it that was to raise people's knowledge of their classes. Before the nerf, mana was a free entity, doesnt matter if you would have blown your entire manabar on one mob, you can wait 30 seconds and you're back to full. it was crazy, no one (myself included) learned to manage their mana well.
fortunately, the tier 1 planes snapped me out of it, but others weren't so lucky. complain all you like, but the game is better off for the fix, IMhO.

I've been able to find nothing in the information about KEI that suggests that there is a minimum level a character must be in order to have it cast upon them. The only minimums I've ever come across have been for ability to cast. Assuming for a moment that this is correct, what is SOE using as justification for turning off KEI for anyone below lvl 46?
#Qelah, Posted: Jun 17 2003 at 11:46 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) apparently they just changed that over the last week. i've been off for a week & came back to find that i could no longer have kei at level 35! what really ticks me off is i had kei when i signed on & deleted it to the get a fresh one!! ughh!

You've never been able to cast it directly on anyone below lvl 46 or so, you get the "This spell is too powerful for your intended target" message. However, if you were grouped with noobs, you could cast it on YOURSELF and it would still stick on everyone in your group.

This is no longer true, with Wednesday's patch it will only stick on group members of the required level.

Hence all the whining in PoK. The justification is that low level characters should not be running around with lvl 60 buffs because it makes the game lack sufficent challenge for them. (As in, how much mana regen do you really need to kill moss snakes?) Also, from the huge number of noobs whining in PoK, it's clear MANY lower level players had grown addicted to the high level buffs, as opposed to working on refining their actual hunting strategies.

This will look strange responding to an over three year old post, but . . .

As of today, KEI still sticks to anybody, including Level One toons, on the Al'Kabor server, A.K.A., the Macintosh server. Lets lower level players run around hunting with less downtime and against MOBs they couldn't take down before. Also helps tradeskillers get to higher levels earlier.

Thanks to your comments here, I can probably lay to rest how staleness of Al'Kabor. I've been screamed at that our server had been kept up to date until it went live around June / July 2003. (I could look that up further to be more exact, but I won't bother right now.) If Al'Kabor doesn't have this change in it, which would significantly affect lower level game play, I wonder what else didn't get included.

I'm not sure whether this change encouraged better lower level game play or power leveling so KEI would stick. FYI, even after three years, KEI would stick on *none* of my toons. I attribute my slow advancement mainly to too much tradeskilling and beating up certain quests. :)

I had that problem once too, and actually, it was a real KEI. About 30 minutes into it I saw the icon start flashing and then it was gone. I've had Kei about 10 or 15 times and this was the only time it blooped like that - maybe similar to when a Camo drops after seconds rather than the full 5 minutes?
RE: KEI Dropping

My guess is that you received the lvl 59 chanter spell Gift of Pure thought rather than KEI... It's duration is the shorter one you describe may want to hover your cursor over what you receive to make sure you indeed have what is being advertised. Same buff icon I believe, so the enchanter could possibly have mistakenly memmed/cast the wrong one on you. Would just watch what you receive in the future and either donate less for that (like 10-15pp) or kindly ask for KEI.
