Asystole is half the mana, 90% of the damage, and half the cast time of this. Darkness, Asystole, more dots. The cast time on this sucks, the recast time sucks, the random duration sucks, it just generally sucks. Only to be used as an emergency no-dot snare until you get AA snare.
Great aggro kiting opener

Sorry if this is a blinding flash of the obvious, but this is a great way to start an aggro kite.

Cast this from near max range, you'll have plenty of time to throw another DoT on while he's crawling up to you. After that, Pet Attack, run away until you recover for casting, throw another DoT. Run away until recovered, throw another DoT. Darkness is great to include as one of those in case Retrogression breaks so mob would still be slowed. Repeat as necessary as DoTs wear off if the mob still has enough HP.

The initial nuke, the debuff/slow and the other DoTs keep aggro very well. Never had a mob break aggro off me doing this. They always keep leisurely strolling after me while I run circles or figure 8's and my pet hammers them from behind. The DoTs tick away until they're at low health run state (for those that run). The darkness holds them still, I back off pet and go up to skill melee until they drop.

The couple of times I got a resist from the initial cast, they're still far enough away to cast darkness before they get to me, and this ends up being the second thing that lands instead of the first.

I usually finish blues with me at full health and 80-90% mana (with a lich up), and my pet at full.

This so far is with the 41 Warrior pet -- a higher DPS pet may manage to grab aggro. We'll see.

Debuff first

Throw whatever version of Scent you have for your current level on the mob and this will have a much better chance of sticking for close to the full duration. Debuffs ftw. Even our suck-*** root will last with reasonable duration when the mob is tashed first. If I have to root rot, I always box my wife's chanter (if she isn't with me to begin with). Same with this spell. The few times I've used it, Scent goes a long ways to making it worth having.

Not Subject to Improved Damage IV
# Jan 08 2004 at 3:25 PM Rating: Decent
Sadly, the DD component of this spell is not helped by the Improved Damage focus effect. I cast on a mob with an ID4 item equipped, then swapped out the item for a non-focused item and did the same 557 damage both times (I'm currently Level 57). I tested on several more mobs and never did anything other that 557 with this spell. Other DD spells work as expected.

It's a shame because this is one of my most commonly used spells in LDoN groups. It does excellent damage, has a snare built-in, and does a more damage than my dots would in nearly all fast-pull, fast-kill groups.

I'll keep the ID4 item, despite it's lack of INT because it helps my Lifetaps, but I sure wish my most common nuke was helped out too.

Im;roved damage will not help the dd componant on this spell because although it has a dd componant it technically is a dot, because it has duration. Burning affliction will affect the dd componant of this spell, the way it affects the dd componant on Envenomed Bolt.

Why would you use this spell? I can tell you very simply... anytime you need a snare that is NOT a DOT. That would include casting snare on a mob before a chanter casts a mez on it for adds. That way your DOT does not keep breaking the mez from the chanter. It is also a good way to get your damage in at the very beginning rather than it acting as a DoT. Might be useful for when the mobs are dying pretty fast.

I would watch this spell though. It definitely has a tendancy to wear off faster than our darkness line. Darkness line of spells are a set duration and this guy is random. Might last the full time, or it might last 2 seconds. PoP mobs seem to break it much quicker.

And thats why i have mixed feelings about this spell, as a 72 Necro this spell is great because of the -25 Str on mobs (pull with this spell, dot, fd, let pet eat the mob alive), but more times then i can count it wears off after 5 seconds...thanks Sony for f**king necro's...again

Stacking??
# Nov 03 2003 at 12:09 AM Rating: Decent
Anyone know if this stacks with our darkness line of spells? I'm a 48 necro.

I just hit 49 and the snare effect does not stack you can still cast the darkness line of spells after you cast IR.
Instant dmg vs dot
# Oct 29 2003 at 9:47 AM Rating: Decent
This is instant dmg followed by snare which is sweet because it allows a chanter to mez after the mob is snared. A very nice addition to our ******* os spells.

Vender

It is sold by Horoal in Echo Cavern.

Zone in to EC from Shadowhaven like you are on your way to FG. Take the first cavern to the right. It dead ends at a secret door. go past it to a vender area and check the tents for Horoal. He was in a tent near the wall and had a friend in there with him.
