I just want to add a quick tid bit, for everyone that is giving the armor to their pets, don't forget about the elemental defender as well, it goes on the pets back slot and adds 10 AC so why not, quite a nice bump if ya ask me but heh I suppose you could argue what is the difference in 10 AC. I would respond, "Could be the difference between dead pet and living pet"

Hugs to everyone, cept the Vah Shir <wink>

You can get the spell Summon: Phantom Plate from

Jalor Housip (The Twilight Sea)
Kenral Siroisl (Shadow Haven)

These are the same merchants you can get the Summon: Phantom Leather and Summon: Phantom Chain from.

The lvl 44 spell he has is phantom plate that is a different spell from the lvl 39 summon phantom plate armor spell. Somat does not sell the 39 spell.
other pets?

Can you give it to shaman pets? chanter pets? necro pets?

i mean, does it give them AC as well? i often group with other pet classes and i would give them plate armor as well, if it helps.

Most definitely, yes. Newbies also like it. Make sure you give the items to a pet one by one instead of in a bag though. Pets are too dumb to take anything out of a bag.

I do believe that you can hand the items to them 4 at a time, not necessarily each item as an individual turn in. I.e. hand your fire pet a phantom plate bracer, phantom plate bracer, phantom plate breastplate, and phantom plate gauntlets and he will wear all of them.

At least to the best of my knowledge this is how it is.

And yes pet's are dumb, I guess they can manipulate weapons and armor but don't know how to open a little sack. ;)

Elementalist Somat does not carry this spell. He has the 44th level Phantom plate (self buff) not the Summon Phantom Plate Spell (no rent armor).

This is a 39th level spell. The prior posting was about the Spell Phantom Plate, not Summon: Phatom Plate
#REDACTED, Posted: Mar 15 2003 at 7:56 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is actually a level 44 spell now, I think it's changed recently.

There is quite a bit of debate on whether to give armor to pets. If you are going to chain pets, it is not worth the extra 300 mana.

However, if you are going to sustain a single pet, then always give them a full suit of plate armor. Think of it as a HUGE full duration AC buff. A total of 76 AC, (and 61.8 lbs). Few spells can beef up AC that much and not need refreshing.

Using the 39 fire pet vs. a Hill Giant, the HG was hitting for the full 96 damage. When I gave it Phantom Plate, the damage fell in the 70s and 80s. Pretty noticable difference.

Main key to giving pets armor: Give it the single pieces of armor 4 at a time. If you give it the whole bag with the armor in it, it won't increase the AC.
