It's a six second stun....

Unlike all the rest of our AoE lines, this spell, this ONE spell, is NOT .... I repeat NOT point blank.

This means if you stand toe-to-toe (or even rather close) to the mobs when you cast this, then they ... AND YOU ... will be stunned.

So what purpose does this spell have?

As near as I can tell, it's a panic button. You use this when your puller calls out "inc...2..um..." and shows up with 5.

1) Stand back and cast this on the massive overpull your crappo puller just brought.

2) Use those six seconds to hotkey something like "zone" or "gate" or "evac" even "mez!" At the very least, it's six seconds of time you didn't have before to get that now desperately needed group heal or at least a couple of roots to go off. However, this stun, and/or that heal will guarantee you an unhappy rapport with most of the mobs just pulled so...

3) Use 1 of those 6 seconds to get divine aura up. You are now protected completely until this spell refreshes and you can repop it. If you spend that time running towards a zoneline, it could save your life. Keep in mind that DA and DB both make you INVULNERABLE ... to the mobs, to fall damage, and to your helpful wizzies evac =)

Keep higher in mind that DA and DB take *ages* to go from freshly memmed to castable...so it's a last resort kinda thing. I just like to mem it at that point to have it up down the line hehe.

It would seem to be very useful if your enchanter is getting the snot kicked out of him/her by multiples and can't get a mez off. Just make sure you stand back. I wouldn't try to be a hero and save my group with this spell. The aggro you will attract will cause your group to be without a healer FAST! Additionally, you'll break mez with this. Use root instead, or multitank, and let the chanter do their job.

Aww being a hero is fun.

You are quite correct that this spell will break an existing mez. I expect clerics to know that by now (it's not like this is the first stun we get to use....)

If you happen to be graced with an enchanter who can actually mez (sorry y'all but good chanters are hard to find), then you shouldn't need this spell. I wouldn't have it memmed normally in a group with an enchanter that didn't suck ;)

In fact, the LAST thing you want to do is cast THIS spell on an *enchanter* who is trying to mez because then he will spend the rest of the day griping at you about how much mana he'd wasted to get off the mezzes that *did* stick and how he doesn't have the mana to recast all those mezzes and can't cast them all in six seconds anyway and now we're all gonna die and have to summon/rez because the angry mobs will be beating the cleric first and foremost after this.

It does still come in handy as a last resort for those now-common chanter-less groups where everyone including the mage (not his pet) who thinks he's the offtank. In a severe pinch, it even has its use for that chanter who cannot get even a first mez to land.

This spell really doesn't work very well (at all?) on mobs over 55 anyway so you're not going to be using this in many zones where even a mid-geared cleric cannot take a hit or two till someone taunts. You...wear...plate.

The biggest thing to remember is that it's a *targeted* area effect, and that it has a *really* nice range. If you can plunk it on the critters out in the field as the pull of doom comes in, then everyone can get their ducks in a row to root, mez, tag, or kite the adds eiher out there or once they come in.

The nicest thing is that this spell has a very low hate to it, and like any other stun, it has a pretty solid chance of interrupting things like an npc complete heal or a gate. It also isn't (or wasn't, I'll have to check since the latest expansions came out) on the same "button timer" as your other stuns, so it gives you one more in a lineup if you're trying to stun lock something.

At best it does a single pop of 90 dmg. Pretty much *anything* any other toon is going to do at that point will pull the agro of the stunned mobs off the cleric and onto him. Also, if you *do* have DA/DB memmed and ready to go, then the worry about having "all" the agro on the cleric is pointless. If your group can't get the agro off you in 18 seconds you're doomed anyway and ...you...wear...plate.

So, to clarify this *isn't* the spell to be using in zones where a cleric cannot risk being hit at all, but by that level you're seeing "this creature is immune to the stun portion of this effect" anyway. Besides, by then, you no longer have the luxury of running into a zone with a cleric, a necro, and a mage who says "my pet can tank" and surviving :P
