The effect

The effect doesnt always give the full 20% per tick, more like e-20% per tick. I was casting Banof Nife ( 150 DD ) then 214 per tick for 7 ticks. BA3 made even the DD component do more damage, and tick were from 220-250 until the spell ran out. It varies from tick to tick the increase in the damage done. I got this all on my own as my Rallos Zek worshipping shaman had never touched either a giant or a dorf so I was dubious to both to start. Easy quest, if you need any finer points on this before you try, write me and Ill try to give ya a good answer.

Hi,

does anyone knows if a pally will have a use for the item that has this focus effect?
Splurt
# Jan 15 2003 at 6:07 PM Rating: Decent
How would this affect lvl 51 necro spell Splurt, would it make it do insane dmg towards the end of it, or would the dmg be spred out over the extended life of the spell?

Extended affliction adds 20% to a dot's damage meaning it adds 20% to the duration of the spell. Splurt, for instance is 237 to cast for 1600 dmg over 96 seconds; or 16 'ticks'. ( a tick represents 6 seconds) Theoretically, splurt will deal 100 points of damage to an npc each tick. Adding 20% to that gives splurt 3.2 more ticks, roughly equaling 320 extra damage without the extra mana usage.
Hope this helps 8)

However, the error that you have in this information is that splurt doesn't do damage in a liniar fassion. The first tick does very little damage and each suecessive tick does an incremental amount of damage. I don't know the exactly forumla, however, it appears that more than 50% of the damage is done in the last 2 ticks or so. Therefore, the point the original poster is making is quite valid. How does this formula play out? I assume it's similar with the shammy epic effect.
RE: Splurt
# May 22 2003 at 7:05 AM Rating: Default
This Has to be exponential growth, and Splurt may be excluded, or has a fixed maximum amound of damage per tick, because if you increas this just one more tick, what you will get is enormous... so i sapose it maxes out at 300ptick or around there... right around the 7th tick... I could find the equasion out, so splurt will get at least 900 extra damage, give or take a few becuase if it didnt have a cap splurt would end up some where in the yard of 12500 hps if it continued for 3.2 more ticks. I will try to figure the equasion out...
RE: Splurt

extended affliction increases the duration on splurt, yes, however - no extra damage is done during the additional ticks, probably because of the different damage formula

and the splurt formula is roughly 11 damage initially, then +11(ish) each tick.. doing around 175 damage on the last tick

just to clear that up

bone-clasped girdle is forgotten in the list of items... you think it would all be database driven, but i guess these individual pages are manually done =)

When casting my dots or roots, get a message below that bracer lights up or shines. When i use my shaman epic effect, I dont get this message, so dont think it works with the shaman epic effect.

Epic Effect or Splurt-type spells?
# Oct 28 2002 at 3:47 PM Rating: Excellent
Splurt-type spells, including the Shamen Epic's effect, start with small damage per tick that increases over time, until they are doing LARGE damage per tick by the end. If this spell increases the time by 20%, it would in theory SIGNIFIGANTLY increase the amount of damage caused by Splurt-type DoTs.

Somehow I don't think this is the case...does anyone have any experience using an item with this effect along with a splurt-type spell?
Extended time or damage?
# Oct 10 2002 at 4:54 AM Rating: Decent
Is this a good thing? Does it actually increase the amount of damage of your DOT, or does it just slow it down. I couldn't work it out from the other posts I have seen on extended affliction.

Would be good to know before doing the quest - if it just extends the time it takes to do the damage I doubt there would be much value in.

ever hopeful

Yes, it increases the dmg of affliction type spells (dot's). So if your dot does say 10dmg every tic (6 secs) for a minute (10 tics), then this would have a chance of increasing your dmg to 12 tics (so instead of a total of 60 dmg done, it would be 72 dmg done in 1 minute and 12 seconds).

Just to clarify your example Solase, while your text is right your maths is somewhat wrong...

without focus effect:
10dmg per tick for a minute (10 ticks) = 100damage

with focus effect:
10dmg per tick for a minute + (focus effect of 20%) =

10dmg for (10 + 2 ticks) = 120 damage.
Also root spells
# Oct 22 2002 at 4:21 PM Rating: Excellent
It also increases the maximum duration of root spells.

Was correct when Dargadin wrote it... sadly Sony picked up on the fact that we were all getting lovely use out of it for extending root's duration so they nerfed the restrictions on it to be its originally intended targets... DoT's only.

Found on the vendor named Horal Deathdealer in a tent in the northwest corner of Echo Caverns (4b in the EQAtlas map). Cost a little over 6pp (Erudite with 70 CHA).

To get there, you have to go through the 'secret' entrance from Shadow Haven into Echo Caverns -- this is located in the room next to the Soulbinder and nexus portal (just go as far back as possible, entrance is behind wall). Once in Echo Caverns there are some guards around, and not much happening near the zone line. Go to the right, and you will have to wiggle slowly through a section in the rocks at what appears to be a dead end -- not the typical hidden entrance you can just walk through.

You are then in an open space with lots of tents. There are occasional bogling scouts and needlites that will attack, so it's best to Gather Shadows at this point to walk around invisible. There is also a bank (if you forget your money), and a necro trainer in this vicinity.

Had no problem going through the zone to get this, but there were only three people there at the time... if you are a young necro (I went at level 9 so as not to worry about a corpse run in case of failure), you might want to use the Soulbinder in Shadow Haven before going into Echo Caverns.
Luclin Vendor only!
# Aug 08 2002 at 6:39 AM Rating: Default
From what I read on castersrealm, this spell has to be bought at a specific vendor up in luclin. They were saying something about having to go through a secret passages or two, so I suggest you just go to eq.castersrealm.com and check out the spell and others comments to see for yourself. I'm fast approaching the time myself to have to go get this spell. Of course, I've also been able to pre-buy most of my level 12 spells anyways 'cus of all the money I've been making in the warrens, so by the time I hit level 12 I should be able to use all of my spells already mua ha ha.
Can not scribe

I have a note on my spell Listing printed off of Casters Realm which indicates SOL.
Is there a vendor in Antonica that sells this spell?

Qaylar is Eruidan, so possibly Paineel or better Freeport since he is currently running about in the deserts.
