Getting AE sucks
# May 14 2003 at 2:38 PM Rating: Decent
Three AE II items listed. One drops off a level 50 mob in the Grey. Ridiculous, AE II is useless at level 50. The effect on the gloves should be AE III and another AE II item added that drops off lower level mobs. Then the necklace drops off a lvl 40 mob in LGuk, so at best you might be able to use it for 6-8 levels before it becomes obsolete. Then there's the bracelet, which although the shaman is < 30 there's no way a group < 30 is going to handle that camp, beyond which the bracelet has the added benefit for two of the three classes that would really benefit the most but leaves the Necros in the cold. Yeah, I'd still get this if I had the chance, but why can't it be +5 wis and +5 int like the BAM?

It's almost like these items were DESIGNED to be for bazaar twinks, and not for actually playing the game and going out and hunting USEFUL gear.

It's definitly not obsolete, not only becuase what Itangle mentioned about stacking DoTs but also becuase AE II will still effect DoTs over lvl 44, just at a lesser rate of mana preservation. Not sure if it's true with all Focus Effects but Extended Enhancement and AE both work this way

The fabled Pbb should solve that problem now. Easy to get at around lvl 30, so it will be useful for a long, long time....

My level 57 cleric wears grey flesh gloves and they work on the roots that he uses. With the volitile nature of root duration to begin with, every little bit can help.

It's not obsolete, as a 63 Druid, I tend to "stack" my DoT's on a mob, using my lvl 44 DoT the gloves take effect. I know several 60+ who continue to use the gloves from The Grey, because they choose to, not because they don't have a choice.
DOT's only now

Here is a message from Alan in the EQ Developers forum regarding the 4th Feb 2003 patch...

"We corrected a bug that was allowing these foci to work for too many spell types, including things like snares and slow. Affliction foci now only work on damage over time spells."

So what about Necromancer Darkness line? I've heard conflicting reports about whether AE still works on them or not, because of the snare component. But, they are also still damage over time spells. Anyone know for sure?

Effect Stacking
# Feb 04 2003 at 4:48 PM Rating: Decent
Does anyone know if these kind of effects stack with benefits you get from AA skills and/or specilization skills?
Question
# Aug 27 2002 at 3:05 AM Rating: Decent
Greetings!

I want to know, if this "Affliction Efficiency" stacks with "Mana preservation"?

Thank you.
RE: Question
# Oct 19 2002 at 3:54 PM Rating: Decent
Since Mana Pres and the "Efficiency" line of foci do the same thing, (save you mana) you can only get the benefit of one or the other. In this case, the 25% mana savings is larger, so the efficiency item would override the 10% savings of a mana pres item. However, for other types of foci, they all can stack. Ext enhancement item, ext range, mana pres, and spell haste items can all work together on one spell.

Detrimental spells have an undesireable effect such as Stinging Swarm and Clinging Darkness.
