It's Lame
# Nov 18 2002 at 2:27 PM Rating: Default
I came to finaly research the epic now that my Druid hit 60. And this is all it does? It's not worth the effort. A few decent stats and a lame *** long weak dot? Ill pass. There is other equipment out there that is more worth the effort. Lame Lame Lame

Snare

Greetings. I for one am disappointed that Verant deemed it necessary to dilute this Epic weapon. I was looking forward to obtaining and using the item to its full extent. If Verant continually obliterates the very essence of the game then what is the sense in playing, they could at least replace the SNARE ability with one more palletable.

Thank you

The Druid epic was not 'diluted' by removing its snare effect, imo. It was improved. Verant has stated that this was done in response to a large number of requests received from players - these players would be Druids who have *already* quested (and used) their Nature Walkers Scimitars, and not those who are merely 'looking forward' to obtaining them.

I think most druids would agree that it's much better to have a 'mana-free' dot that sustains 1650 damage and *WON'T* be resisted by mobs that are "Immune to changes in run speed" (because of the recently removed snare effect), than it is to have the snare effect included and have Wrath of Nature bounce off these same mobs every time (because they're immune to snare).

If you want to use a snare spell, then mem it and use it - if you're like me, it's always up anyway (and has been, forever).

Think: Luclin. Think: Jaggedpine. Most mobs that are immune to changes in run speed tend to be (in my experience) higher in level and possessed of a great many more hit points than those in the same zone who are not. If I'm up against something that I *can't* snare, I think it's safe to assume that I'm really going to appreciate being able to land this mana-free dot on it every three minutes, even though I can't slow the bastage down.

In groups, the removal of the snare effect is an additional boon: use it when you want to deal serious damage over time (and save your mana), but don't want the mob ignoring the meleers to wander over and start beating the living snot out of you because of the additional aggro that the snare effect would otherwise generate.

I'm not trying to bag on you, but I don't believe it's fair (or accurate) to say that Verant is 'obliterating the very essence of the game,' where this change is concerned. Some changes actually are beneficial.

Just my dos centavos ;)

Thank you Bilious,
I agree, I've just about completed my epic at level 51 *yay* and I'm very much looking forward to the ease from which I can solo Elysians with it. From Experience, it is a 15+ minute fight with elysians when going Mono-e-mono. Especially at level 48. It took me ages to try and find one to pull, and then to stack all the magic dots you can on it.. that takes time.. then you have to keep recasting. with the Wrath of Nature effect on the epic thats going to make soloing them that much easier. Especially since I will be killing them for exp and letting my lower level friends loot. Personally I prefer a 5+ minute snare over a 2 min snare. ( I don't know if that was the epic snare or not, but I use "ensnare" much more than I use the snare effect on my ESG's..) Good Luck all

stacking

I take it this DOT stacks with all other dots?
can some one please confirm for me
Awesome

Who cares if there's no snare w/ the dot. The fact of the matter is you have a VERY decent dot that is FREE. Doesn't really matter that it's a slow dot. The only complaint I have is that it has a LONG *** cast time which isn't really necessary because how often are you going to be chain casting a dot? When it all boils down, though, the druid epic is one of the best epics in game.
snare removed

removing the snare was the best thing they ever did. snare = agro.

OMG AGGRO!!
Whatever will you do?? As far as them removing the snare I wish they hadnt. So what if you get aggro, just root, or run around till they get aggro back. Ive never seen snare be that much aggro that the mob cant be taken off the caster. I vote for snare to be reinstated on the epic.

Id say they didnt take snare off because of aggro...usually druids solo with this anyway so who gives a crap about aggro...its because some mobs are immune to snare and slow down and there fore immune to the dmg part of this epic as well
Snare gone

The snare effect with the epic has be removed. Now it's just a really slow DOT. Still mana free so I guess it's better than nothing.

Where to Buy
# Jun 25 2002 at 6:03 PM Rating: Decent
You buy the spell in Shadow Haven at the Paladin Guild (#12 on map). Keep to the right after entering building and go to the far Northeast corner near stairway. Face the stairway turn to right the vendor is across the room. The vendor's name is Galorano Daldirick. The spell costs about 8 platinum.

I am very sure(99.9%) that all epic weapons' effects are useable at level 50/51. I hear 50 half the time, and 51 the other half. I think it's 50 though, because a rogue from my server(Busche) completed the Rogue epic at level 50, and had no complaints.
Hope this jumble of info helps.
I'll come back to see if this has been confirmed when I finish my epic =)

Does this dot stack with Winged death and breath of Ro?

All pre level 50 dots stack with post 50 level. For example, you could stack:

Ro's Fiery Sundering (debuff) + Fixation of Ro (debuff) + Immolate + Breath of Ro + Drones of Doom + Winged Death + Epic = Hella DoT on mob hehe.

I've found fire DoT's not as useful post 53 as I was hoping, but Epic + ES Vambraces is a nice root DoT combo. (Positive mana kiting) hehe.
Cast Time

Actually 9.0 seconds.
not instantaneous
# Feb 15 2002 at 9:47 PM Rating: Default
It takes all of 8 long seconds for the effect to finish being cast.
