cast time

I love the many different cast times listed:

instant
9 seconds
12 - 15 seconds

I'll find out for myself when I finish the quest, but come on people. If you know, you know. If you don't know, shut up.

Lvl 63 Embracing Darkness > Epic
RE: Bank it
# Mar 20 2004 at 2:34 PM Rating: Good
I'd say the clicky effect is better than Embracing Darkness. The reasons why are:

casting time:
epic = instant
ED = 3.2 sec

recast time:
epic = 0
ED = 2 sec

mana:
epic = 0
ED = 200

amount of snare:
epic = 65%
ED = 75% (comparable)

DPS:
epic = 75 hp/tick (12.5 DPS)
ED = 70 hp/tick (11.7 DPS)

It is true that the resist check modifier on Embracing Darkness is a bit better (-20 for ED; 0 for epic), but the difference will not be noticable most of the time. The aspect where ED does excel relative to this clicky effect is the duration: 2 minutes for ED; 1.6 minutes for epic. Also, the total damage done is greater for ED (1400 hp over 2 minutes for ED versus 1200 hp over 1.6 minutes for clicky).

However, given that it is mana-free AND instant casting time makes this effect very useful.

Despite what the spell information says there, the clicky on this is not instant. My necromancer doesn't have this yet admittedly, but I've talked with those that do have their epics, and the cast time is 9 seconds.

Unless they've changed everyones but mine, its a 9 second cast time... great to start the pull, after that use the 63rd one or better.

There's nothing "great" about using a spell that takes 9 seconds to cast, while wandering mobs may come into it's agro range (getting adds) or pulling with a snare, lengthening the time it takes for the mob to get to your camp, thereby increasing the chance of adds again. Oh, and don't forget your tank will have to work harder to keep ahead of you on agro list if the first spell that hits is your DoT/Snare. Just an opinion from a ranger who's pulled countless mobs of all levels.

Just a thought Yoram, but i think they ment when your pulling a mob agro kiting.... not in a group, if you pulled with this in a group that was tanking, you would be kiting it untill the tank managed to pull it off you, but i think any necro who actually has managed to get epic should know that

Do focus effects work on epic clicky effect?
# Jan 03 2004 at 11:12 PM Rating: Decent
Do focus effects work on epic clicky effect? Will an affliction haste item or burning affliction affect it? If so, that would be cool. Especially affliction haste (33% reduction in casting time). That would make it a 6 second cast time.

If this effect works the same way as the druid epic dot, then no, it's not affected by Burning Affliction. Also, it's an instaclick, so no need for Affliction Haste. :)

fear spell ?
# Aug 25 2003 at 9:13 AM Rating: Decent
Just wondering if the targets mind is filled with fear and terror is it a fear snare dot combo ? or just bad wording.

pity the casting time is that long, makes it so much less then alot of other epic items of other classes. Using snare is one of my necros pulling style and lately i have been soloing mobs which wont be killed before the snare has faded and a recasting time of 12-15 secs will mean one dead necro...

First, it is a 9 second cast. Second, if you cant resnare a mob as it is moving and recast fear to keep it going while your pet is smoking it from the back then you need to hang up your scythe. I have a staff of dreaded gaze that I regularly use to fear kite in SF. It has a 7 second cast time as apposed to reg invoke fear spell of 3 seconds or so. You get used to it and it never comes into play the cast time. I mean who cares if you cast it evertime you stop? It doesnt cost you any mana to chain cast it if you want.

not really, for one this dot lasts along time. Around 2 1/2 min i believe, number 2 i mean if a mob is feared thats easy just resnare b4 it fades =P if you are ina tight confind area, m hellow WE do get root, an my root button works just fine.

btw atleast necro epic see's useage some epics /cough warrior 2hs version isn't even worth using, or just the normal 14/24's since hell i am using a 14/22 an a 12/20 so dunno /shrug. only thing making the epic better is the proc.
