i dont know how you people cam up with the 6 min duration it seems random like al the other charm spells.
i am lvl 53 with 220 charisma and it seems completly random sometimes a few mins mostly a few seconds.

the 6.5 to 7.5 min duration depends on level (53-65) and is a max cap, not guaranteed duration.

It has been proven that since the Spring 2003 enchanter charm line nerf that all charm durations are now calculated based on target mob MR. You pretty much have to tash everything to get a charm to last any reasonable amount of time, and even that doesnt always work on recharms, but it definitely helps on the first charm duration in my experience.

The crappy thing is now we have to agro everything first by tashing.

There is an option however, but requires patience, something few have these days. use Glamour of Kintaz to mez your charm target, then tash it and wait for just before GoK wears off then use Boltran's Agacerie. Mez will break, pet will be yours to use. Or if you think you are far enough away and feel lucky, you can tash it, color slant (should catch mob just before it gets to you and starts wailin on ya) and use Boltran's

Pestilent Rats in PoD are excellent for this too, but becareful, some of them are lvl 54.. eek! just mez and memblur and hide if you tag the wrong one.

Sad they nerfed XP with pets too *sigh*

Rune!

Correct, charm duration no longer has anything to do with charisma. It's based purely on the MR of the target.

Even though it is unfortunate that you have to take agro by tashing now before charming, there is a much simpler way to accomplish a quick charm-break recovery. Randyt has got the gist of it, but there are some variances on that method that work extremely well for me (Level 52 Enc.)

This ONLY works if you're charming targets below 55. In my opinion, charming above level 55 becomes far to risky with the way the current game system works (unless you're charming for CC, using the short-duration charms. Which makes perfect sense -- we are the masters of CC.)

Load up your normal charm spell list (which should include your primary tash, primary charm, primary mesmerize spell, primary slow spell, primary PBAE stun spell, and root.) Add to this your very first mesmerize spell, I believe it is level 2; called, simply enough, "Mesmerize." I will explain why in a moment. In addition, also remember to load up a damage spell of any sort. I prefer choke line damage over time, but anything that inflicts damage works fine. This is to prevent your servant from hogging all the XP. When you find a prospective servant, tash it. As it's running towards you, pop your PBAE stun and while it is stunned, cast Mesmerize. This spell lasts only 24 seconds or so, so it's not ideal for mesmerizing adds (that is what your primary mesmerize spell is for), but *more than enough* time for you to cast your charm spell and not have to wait an eternity for your servant to become active. If charm breaks, just stun, Mesmerize, re-tash, and re-charm.. and you will still have about 10 seconds to spare in case your charm is resisted or something unexpected happens. I haste with epic Speed of the Shissar, so the free spell slot makes this combination possible for me. However if you do not have epic, you can still very easily cast your longer-duration hastes like Augmentation, Swift like the Wind, and Aanya's Quickening, erase spell and load it again whenever haste wears off, which will usually give you a good 15-30 minutes.

Good luck and I hope this post helps! =)

charm checks against MR and charisma every tick.

Enchanters do well to keep their cha maxed. It also helps with mezz resists and pacify resists

Level 53, so becareful if you are charm duoing or soloing. Pon is a good place, but a lot of the mobs vary in level(one blood raven will charm, try again and it might be too high). All the ones i use con dark blue so no way to tell. Have a back up plan, always...mezz,root,memblur if needed. I preffer just getting another pet and killing it =)
