I have had this spell work 2x, fail 3x, it restored ALL of my hp at the time of death and i didnt loose my buffs - that was around level 42. I maintain a high cha because it affects the success of my roots. the other time was in PvP on Zek, in PvE the screen kinda jumped and i was still in the same spot running around still from the mob - in pvp i went to bind- so long ago-i dont remember what happened to my buffs- it was very cool to see it work - the other 3x it had no effect. i love it AWSOME!

death pact bites
# Nov 02 2005 at 8:09 AM Rating: Decent
a 300 point heal my that bites, this spell will only be usefull in pre-pop era where the trash mobs do not hit for 400+ and if tank is good geared he might have 4k+ hp and so this spell will not even heal 10% of his hp so good luck using , just be prepared to rez

That is why it is a level 51 spell. For better results at higher levels look to Divine Intervention.
What it does, exactly
# Apr 11 2005 at 3:51 AM Rating: Decent
From what I have heard, this spell gives you a chance to get a 300 point heal if your HP falls below 0 with the saving throw using the target's CHA at the time of would-have-been death.

If this is true, it would leave all buffs (and agro!) intact. Sounds like it is only good for buying an extra second or two for a heal to land.

When this spell works do you keep the buffs you had?
Death Pact with the Devil

Death Pact: Is a special prayer/blessing a Cleric can place upon anyone with a open buff slot. What this will provide is Insurance! Ever play Blackjack in Las Vegas? Dealer shows an Ace you want to buy Insurance? Well Death Pact is the cheapest Insurance you can purchace in EQ. What do you want for 4pp and change??

This spell is triggered upon death IF and ONLY IF the "Gods" listened to the Prayer/blessing. Hence you get a save vs death that will heal HALF your total H.P. if fate is on your side.

I cast this spell at the start of LDoN adventures. I cast first upon myself and second upon my group Enchanter ( so I know when the buff is wearing off ) Now I have seen this spell work quite often for the ENCHANTER. Rare is the day my prayer works for me and my 97 cha :) Yes folks I have to believe this spell has a nice modifier for those more Charismatic then the average Joe :)

To sum things up Death Pact is best used as cheap Insurance for the frail Enchanter in your group. Duration and the cheap Pearl makes this a GOOD SPELL because we all know chanters are shot down in the blink of an eye.

DEATH PACT WITH THE DEVIL! WARNING WARNING WARNING THIS SPELL "BUFF" WILL CAUSE MOB(S) TO AGRO YOUR RAID FOLKS SHOULD YOUR ENCHANTER BLOW THE PACIFY BEFORE THE BIG PULL. Goes like this /raid DONT HEAL! LET CHANTER DIE FOR RES and RETRY. Chanter Dies *booo*, But wait *Forboding Glow* YAY Chanter Lives YAY no wait Chanter dies again *YAY or Booo here depending upon how much you like seeing your chanter relive the death :)

ACK! HERE THEY COME RUN OH POO FIGHT ERR DOH RAID WIPE CAMP A CLERIC FAST........ :/ <insert pac man death sound here>

Seriously I seen it happen NO ONE in Raid was casting and we were far from Agro Range. Just something to think about before you make your DEATH PACT WITH THE DEVIL Muahahahahaha.....

Thanks for the info there, Mistress Suzycue. I would add that I suspect that the agro behavior you experienced was a bug (LOL! prolly not fixed yet either) and it sounds like when the death pact goes off it counts as a heal from the caster (the cleric) and that's what gave the agro to the raid mobs. We'll have to kill some more enchanters and experiement with this *winks at intcasta* =)

OK, I was searching for "restore" to find my cleric alt's rez spells, and I came across this. As I play a chanter main, I can attest to this. At level 52 my defense is 110, AC is 600ish, and HP is around 3k with HoV and 56 pally buff (divine glory?).

Now we all know tash, mez, and slow are bigger agro than the 528 damage nuke a chanter has at 52, and let me tell you, those 3k hp last about 7 seconds. CHeal? I don't think so. Between cleric's reaction time and 10 seconds for complete healing (and you'd better hope the cleric isn't casting CHeal on the tank at the moment) you don't have a chance.

I can only hope my 247 cha will give me some shot at new life :) Hey, maybe I'll even carry a stack of pearls around to convince the cleric to cast.

my observations
# Mar 08 2004 at 7:55 AM Rating: Decent
Okay here are my 2cents.

I have been 2boxing my clr and my bf's war in Burning Wood at giants fort. War had Death Pact on him and kicked the bucket anyway. I had low charisma at the time, something around 70.

I cast this spell on adventures now on frail chanties, tank and some other people. Unfortunately even with extended item on Death Pact wears off before adventure ends. Its kind of hard to determin if it worked with backup healers around and mobs disspelling buffs. Just too many variales, but have not seen any miraculous saves as of yet. Will keep on experimenting with this and post any new finds.

Who's Charisma and WHEN is it checked?
# Oct 09 2003 at 1:19 PM Rating: Default
Who's Charisma rating is it based on?

~The cleric who casted it on you and their CHA at the time of the cast?

~The cleric who casted it on you and their CHA at the time of your death?

~Your CHA at the time it is cast on you?

~Your CHA at time of death?

I would like to hear from anyone who has done some experimenting with this spell to determine the plan of action to take to maximized its effectiveness.

No specualtors please. I'm not intereseted in what someone "thinks" it does or how it works. I am specifically looking for REAL data, from people who KNOW, to understand this spell better, and how to use it for the maximum benefit.

RE: Who's Charisma and WHEN is it checked?

I'm going to speculate anyway.
Definately not based upon the CHA of the cleric at the time of death. (What if the casting cleric has logged off...?)
It's also extremely doubtful it is based on the CHA of the person who dies at the time of the cast. Why would the programmers reference something that happened in the past (The CHA of the person who is cast on) when all they have to do is use that preson's CHA at the time of death instead?
So that leaves 2 options, either it's based on the CHA of the cleric at the time of the cast, or *most likely* based on the CHA of the dying person at the time of death- the latter option being the far easier way to deal with a triggered event such as this.

Reason: Say this spell is cast, but the person doesn't die during its duration. If it's based on the CHA of the cleric at the time of the cast, the cleric's CHA at that time has to be stored in a varible to be used ONLY if the spell "procs".

If it's based upon the CHA of the dying person at the time of death, no additional variable needs to be stored because this data is already referencable by the program. The only "processing" after the spell is cast would be when the person dies and gets a saving throw based upon their cha.

Very good summation Smilez. Additionally, I can *assure* you that there is no metadata stored with buffs to contain cha of cleric that cast, etc. Buffs remember who cast them (now, they didn't used to and that's only so they can tell the caster when they wear off), their level and duration. Using the CHA of the would-be-victim (and at the time of their would-be-demise) not only seems more logical, but is more programmatically feasible and then falls into a canned function, just like weapon procs and dex.
Doubt this one's gonna come in handy, ever...

I've used this spell before, and even the upgrade (Divine Intervention), and so far I am 0/4. I held some pearl encrusted steins, and even had the enchanter in the group give me a charisma buff, but every time, when my CH was too late, the player died instead of having health restored.

I'm not saying it would never be usefull, but so far, I've wasted mana and reagents on trying to use this one.

I'm pretty sure this is based on the Target's CHA, not the clerics.

This spell saved my cleric butt while hunting in the Umbral Plains. After aggroing an unslowed Moktor, I got my lights punched out... big time. When my 2500hps reached bottom, my death pact worked and restored 300 points of health. It was just enough for me to skidoodle to saftey and it seemed to clear me from the mobs aggro list.

It's the first and only time I've seen the spell actually work. If its success is charisma based, then I'm really lucky. My cha is only 80. I only cast it on the clerics, chanters and main tank in any raid or group I'm hunting with.

I have had a cleric friend of mine cast this on me in several instances and it has yet to work once. Aanyone know if there is a bug associated with it or is the spell just that useless.

Could have sworn I read it in this forum, unless it has been reset lately. I believe it has a chance of reviving you based off of your charisma. A post I read said most useful for those chanters who used to go do the tash suicides (as they have high cha). I'm not sure if the death wipes agro or not, I havn't used or received this spell.

Hope I'm not just propagating rumors.

Unless this spell works different then regualar ol' "pummeled about the head" type death. Then yes death does wipe agro. i was bored and under lvl 10 so i fighting in akanon and i attacked a clockwork right on my bind point. died. came back 5 seconds later the robo was still right there but was back to amiable.
