Banishment

The spell is used to quickly get rid of undead mobs in raids, quite a bit in my guild. It is used where you don't care about the loot or xp off the mob anyway.
Banishment

With a four minute recast time & a star ruby as it's component (consumed), I think this is only attractive to a guild-type scenerios.

I tested this spell on the Guard Captain in Paineel, and I did not take any faction hits; perhaps that could have some useful applications...
another spell to skip
# Nov 24 2004 at 1:55 PM Rating: Decent
lvl60nec can easily kill any undead below 51.(undead slow makes it breeze)

lvl60clr doesnt get it much harder. huge undead nuke and dot. with lvl56hammer and nuke, little melee skill, you can kill it yourself. If you can't melee, root it, dot it, Exile Undead it to death. its also mentioned on this forum, but im not sure if its true, that anything you banish won't give you exp or loot. that makes it even more useless... save yourself money(or time) of getting it, and star rubys it'll eat.

It's a situational spell like many other apparently 'useless' ones. For example the Mage/Druid Banishment spell does the same thing but against summoned creatures. Equally useless right? Well on the PoJ Trial of Execution several summoned mobs spawn during the encounter along with normal monsters. Destroying them speeds thigns up a Lot and makes the trial a heck of a lot easier.

I'm sure somewhere there will be a similar encounter where undead spawn that you need to remove very quickly. I was about to suggest Avhi Escron's fight, but the undead that spawn there are too high a level.

Regardless, EQ is varied enough that if you get all your spells, you'll find only a small handful which you Never use.
dribble
# Nov 03 2004 at 4:28 PM Rating: Decent
Considering most the stuff I have read on this thread is completely dribble, figured for anyone who actually cares about a reveiw on this spell I would post.

As one of only a handful of battle clerics left in EQ, I have had the honour of being raised under the tutoliage of a 65 (now 68) necro. A class that also uses this spell. And just from personal experience I have never in my entire time playing this game ever seen it used. Most mobs this work on by the time your lvl 60 you can kill them with little or no risk to yourself. So why waste the star ruby? A necro pet a lvl 60 with the appropriate summoned pet weapons equiped can most likely tank anything this spell can banish with little ease. As for a clerics point of view yes this spell may come in handy if you are all alone and have no way of defending yourself cause you don't do any melee what so ever, and there are clerics out there like that so to each his/her own. But otherwise for a battle cleric like myself I find this spell to be a complete waste of PP and a spell slot in your book. Not to mention the extra space you need in your inventory to carry the Star ruby's around with you.
So I hope this helps anyone who was thinking of buying this spell, for a lvl 60 cleric or necro, it really doesn't appear to be all that much worth it.

Usefulness
# Dec 05 2003 at 7:55 AM Rating: Excellent
This spell is a banish spell, it destroys (without loot or exp) the targetted undead mob. It does have its uses, one of the PoJ trials is undead mixed (Trial of Torture perhaps?) and other such places... Crowd control wise it's not very valuable, it does take a star ruby which is expensive and only working on mobs level 46 and under gives it limited value in zones such as ChardokB and Veksar - most of the mobs in those zones are upper 50s, if not higher (Veks has some mobs up to 63; regular mobs not nameds).
In summary: get the spell, put it in your book, and save it for an undead filled event where loot & exp aren't going to matter but surviving will :)

pffft last of the melee clerics.. i just started EQ december 15 2003, my melee skills are maxed before my spell skills are. I play on pvp and am very well known. Vallon zek is my home, Where EVILSERRA is a name synonymous with a good time. I laugh joke and kid, yet i still roleplay. Ever have a cleric walk up and bless ya? Didn't think so. As for undead.. i freak, whenever i see a skeleton i kill it. It is an affront to all i believe in as a cleric. I rest their souls with my hammer or spells, depending on the case. I also have a hot key for nukes, mine says, %T you have been judged and found guilty, now BURN!!! and no one has ever had a problem with it. Infact most people laugh repeatedly at it. So therefor if you are so bitter, then you probably can't think of a good one, or are a ****** cleric so people give you crap about it. For those of us who can do our job as healer, plus play wizard and tank, i say 3 cheers for us. Darfe get on with your bad self bro :) your my kinda guy. Also D+D is not dead, it's just sleeping, i am 21 and play. I know over 50 people in Tacoma that play, and by the way, i am from rhode island, so i hardly know anyone in this dumbass city. Speak your mind, but mind your thoughts.

Long live the rider of the Black Lizard, High Priest Evilserran, Son of Fzarr the elder, and Tashe the wise

A few things not mentioned in the description of this spell. First it requires a reagent. A star ruby or star sapphire per casting. That is about 75 to 110pp per casting. Now this part is only what I have heard but I trust those I have talked to. When this spell succeed (and it is resisted quite a bit if mob is not tashed) you get no xp and the mob does not leave a corpse. But then again if you are doing a guild raid on say Ring of Fire.. this spell could be quite useful for removing some of the spawns. :)
#REDACTED, Posted: Jul 12 2003 at 7:15 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Call me wacky but anyone ever hear of Veksar? Chardok Pocket zone? Necro ganker pets? Oh sorry all the posts here are from Care Bear servers. Ooops my bad.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 28 2003 at 3:26 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) You're so much more hardcore cause you're from a PVP server!
Uses
# May 03 2003 at 12:45 PM Rating: Decent
This really isn't a daily routine spell... niether is the druid Destroy Target spell... however there's always that one time, in that one place where you could have used it ;) Big undead zone is prolly most likely place. Just like Druids use their destroy to take out the summoned rock things in the PoJ Trials.

would be great for roleplaying or just entertaining your group. Personally when and if my cleric nukes its near the end to kill a fleeing mob or to drop it enough that the tank can kill with one or two hits. At this time i have a message that pops up saying "Darfe cast spell Command Word: DIE" then if I timed it right them Mob drops dead.... Great laugh for anyone that played D&D. But then again i am one of the last great meleeing clerics. so you know i just aint right in the head....

Darfe,

You are by far the last meleeing cleric. People call me crazed, mad and tell me I've got a death wish..... well.... I enjoy getting stuck in...

Long live the "BATTLE CLERIC". If the situation allows it, it's great to get off the drog and get in the mix. When I'm swinging my Hammer of Divinity, getting procs like mad, I get envied from the main tank. Often if the tank is a level or 2 lower than me and a war, he/she has to fight to keep agro cause I'm causing so much damage. Granted, some situations it's just not practicle to do anything other than heal, but it's not the only way to play.
#REDACTED, Posted: Aug 08 2003 at 7:34 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Great Idea Darfe. Sadly you geek out on the roleplaying and just ruin it. "DIE" how original. Really put some thought into that Darfe. <dripping sarcasm>

Well aren't you just the cool one "bagging" on silly geeks who did nothing to you, its those geek roleplayers you speak of that keep some fun in the game when leveling gets repetitive and tiresome. You just have a lot of nerve coming into posts and flaunting your big head all over the place. Nobody here cares about you, you aren't cool now, and 20 years ago when you were a geek playing D&D.. well.. you weren't cool then either.. <dripping truth> When you form an opinion about people, like Darfe, keep it to yourself, these threads are supposed to be about a spell not about the world that revolves around you or your misplaced flaming, I am now dumber for having read it, and it pisses me off. Now go sit in the corner and be a good little girl. Thx.

I can't believe how you guys ragged on Darfe... If the game is only about killing or "levelquest" then it sux. I personally have had allot of fun roleplaying in the game. As a necro and throwing my voice into my pet, I can carry on some lengthy and hopefully "funny" conversations with my wayward pet.

Keep up the roleplaying Darfe and have fun yourself in the game.. after all it is about the fun YOU have in the game and not what some old stick in the muds think about you. (p.s. I am 42 and still enjoy roleplaying). Ever dress up for renaisance? :-)

Hey Mr. hehe STOP THAT. we dont like it when you give us a /tell 'hello supp bro' and we reply /r 'killing uber mobs 4 phat lewt' AND ALL YOU HAVE TO SAY IS /r "HEHE" ! WTF is funny about that bozo??? You thinking to yourself how a nice HEHE sandwich would be good right now Mr. Dalmer?? OR ARE YOU JUST RETARDED?

AS FOR YOUR TYPICAL TARD STATEMENT OF "OTHERWISE ISNT WORTH MUCH" maybe for crowd control? I often curse ebay for guys like yourself that just appear from the Plane of Tard. Just like a fat puss filled zit on the tip of your nose. No matter how many times you pop the thing. It like yourself just seem to come at the worst times. You with your uselessness and never ending chit chat HEHE :) <bonk> <bang> <bang> <bang> <bang> <bang> <bang> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click> <click>....

Lets take a moment to think of the value of this spell in such spots as humm..... Veksar...humm... OR wait that new fancy pocket zone in Chardok humm.... Golly Molly who would of thunk it.

I read this thread and post quite a while ago and since someone bumped it I may as well respond too.

That wasn't a very nice reply.

It certainly was funny.
