I think it's pretty easy to figure out what Sony's goal was with the whole LoN line of loot. Most everything you can acquire via LoN is garbage from a stats perspective. So why put it out there at this stage in the EQ evolution (which is fairly advanced after 9 years)? Well...in each expansion group, there are a couple of extreamly rare items that are actualy quite desirable. Obviously, being rare means it requires a lot of involvement to get those toys. However, involvement is more than rather expensive compared to the monthly account fees we regularly pay for EQ. So, they created LoN...thier NEW CASH COW!!! The goal is to have everyone spending a bunch of extra coin trying to get a couple of rare items that only slightly alters thier in-game power/level balance. For instance, if you look at the tradable items list and what they are asking for that loot, you will see traders wanting 48 Booster packs for 1 rare item. Booster packs sell for $3 each so that would mean someone would need to spend nearly $150 to buy enough packs to get the item. The in-game booster packs are so rare you would wait forever trying to go that route to get them.

PS...They know that, it's planned

And the conspiracy theory continues....Too top it off, the same people selling the rares happen to be the developers who sell the Boosters, sell the plat on plat purchase sites, sell the rare in-game loots at super high plat prices to acquire the plat to sell Plat back to the people dumb enough to pay cash for it!!!

Simply put...it's game minupulation for profit.
