charm has a time and place

One really nice use for charm is the following. Imagine a small room full of undead. You might be thinking that you will just FD pull a single and all will be okay, but the problem is there is no where to pull the mob. Here is where charm comes in. You charm one undead, have all the others quickly beat it to death, then you FD. Get up and charm another and have it die. Once there are only 2 mobs left, one of which btw is a named mob, then you get to take home the prize. So while charm it is not the greatest thing in the world it can certainly add to the abilities of a crafty necro.
Its lame...

Lame spell...not much use mostly.Necro dont have MR Debuff or Charm-related AA like ENC,so this spell just cannot last long enough. The best I ever done so far is 50 secs on a Dusty Mummy in Sunderock Spring.Usually,it will break in 20 secs.Well, guess it just for fun or for some Named which you wanna try your luck.

And what AA would that be?

Dire Charm? Level limit of 46 makes it all but useless, especially considering you've gotta be Lvl 59+ to even get it.

Edict of Command? Yes, it allows you to Charm a mob, up to (and including) Level 70, for a guaranteed duration...if it's not resisted, and if the mob isn't flagged as immune. (And you have no idea how many are flagged as just that: immune.)

Other than those 2 AAs, one of which Necros share with us Enchanters (even though your Dire Charm doesn't affect as broad a spectrum of mobs as ours does), I know of no other Enchanter AA that affects Charm. We get an AA that bolsters our mesmerization durations (Mesmerization Mastery, 12 AA cost)...but not a corresponding AA for Charms.

As it is, even with a CHA of 405 and utilizing my best Charm (Dyn`leth's Whispers Rk. II), I average a duration of about 30 seconds. If I'm lucky.

i have yet to get to this spell yet ... but as far as i can see ... this would be a fun little spell to use in Direwind Cliffs :D the bonstitch golems, fetishstitch golems, and dreadknights( not too sure on the name of this mob but there is another undead mob in the zone that isnt listed on the site) are just the appropriate level for this :D and there are plenty of undead mobs there so out comes the undead slow ... which will land PARTIALLY ... but still :D charm the pet haste the pet ... slow the mob and keep your finger on the FD button :D GL hope this helps someone else out a bit :D
Used it in Arcstone

I used this spell in Arcstone on the Undead there. It worked well, although i had to keep an eye on it wearing off occasionally.
place to solo

one place off the top of my head is 69.1 spell mission, there are 3 undead mobs in the corner up to left after you zone in, in a little rut

I have yet to find a place to use this spell. The most powerful mob i've been able to charm has been in Plane of valor on a mob that is green and hits for 400-500.

Chanters can charm lots of mobs that hit for 1,000+. We should at least be able to use this situational spell and have it be useful.

Yeah, we sure can. And once it's Charmed, it turns into a gimp that's lucky to hit for 150+.

You're complaining because you've got a Charm spell that's worth crap? Try being an Enchanter, who's Class envisionment centers on Charming and who has an entire line of Charm spells...that are all worth exactly ZIP.
Charm's been basically dead since the latter days of PoP. Back then, the risk/reward ratio was pretty much in line: you could Charm a pretty mean pet who'd kick *** and take names, but you risked having that mean **** turn on you and beat you into a wet, red smear...along with the mob you had it pounding on.
Now, Charm's risk/reward ratio is just completely out of line. You can still Charm...but the mob turns into a limp-wristed gimp who's more interested in puppies, butterflies, and pretty frilly things than getting into a slug-fest with another critter. Even with the cap on damage output being eased upward, it's still nowhere close to where it needs to be.

So, I'll tell you what. I'll trade you my whole line of Charm spells in return for the ability to Snare, Feign Death, lifetap, summon pets worth the reagents you use to cast the spell...

You're in MY world now!
Finnaly one worth getting
