Make Poison

A skill specific to the rogue class, the art of making and applying poison allows the rogue to gain an edge and fight with a poisoned weapon.

What is the best way to use and develop the poison skill? Which poisons are the most and least useful to make? What city is the best place to practice your art? Can you make a profit off of this skill, and if so how?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the poison making skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

Good places for poison loot

Two of the best places I have found to get poison loot drops are Everfrost around the South Tower area, and Unrest.

In Everfrost at south tower, you have orcish mountaineers, shamans and troopers who all often drop lixt wing stalks and cyclamine corms. And a large supply of Giant spiders, who seem to drop poison sacs more often than other giant spiders.

In Unrest, I have gotten crystalline marrow, grave mold, that phalloides mushroom thingee (forget full name), unlimited zombie skins for making vials, and embalming dust.

I hear Lavastorm is also a good place for farming poison components.

Hail, my main is a 51 wizard on xegony, whom just created a rogue of his own. I must say poisons can get rather impressive but hard to create. Here are a few tips on GREAT places to pick up poison. 1.) Vendors in East Commons. 2.) Vendors in the misty thicket. 3.) Find a wizard/druid that quad kites spiked succulants in the Overthere, and you could have yourself a great partnership while you hunt there for the day. (I remember giving Kikan about 4stacks of spiked succulants after just 6 hours of quad kiting w/ a bud named Ikeya.) 4.) I made this one up when going for jboots. You don't have to have supernova for this one, but it certainly brings them down quicker, if not you can find a druid/wizard friend with a personal based ae for about 240dd. (thunderclap at 34 works nicely for us wizards, low mana and casts quickly) I suggest doing what I did w/ my wizzy, and that is to round up ALL the mobs in the zone bring them to a designated spot (i.e. spire/circle/merchants) and then just going for the AE's. This should kill you about 5-15 spiders and at least 10 snakes. (make sure not to out run the snakes). Great way to get poison's and have the AC spawn quick =). Oh and btw, Giving 2 snake sacs and 20gp to the dark elf in the tunnels in freeport, rewards you with a poison that will do a quick dot from any where near 5-160 damage in a dot, not bad, and requires no skill on your behalf =). Take care, gimme a tell if you need anything. Evadir of Xegony

Actually if you auction for them, you can often get stacks of them for 3-5 pp from these same newbies. Also the area around kaladim is good for buying grave mold.

East commons is a good place to buy poison sacs (spider and snake), which seem to sell for around 5g 5s. The same tip also applies to N.Ro, Oasis, and S.Ro, where you can also pick up Asp sacs, urticating hairs and embalming dust. Occaissionally, you may also find froglok poison glands that someone passing through has sold.

I have found it cheaper to actually hunt for embalming dust off the mummies (mainly in S.Ro for me), as the vendor price is 6p, 7g, a tad steep :) I am helping a guild mate hunt SGs for the Paladin armour anyway, so picking up the poison components from the placeholders has been a nice bonus (the encounter with the Terrorantula however was not....).

I been haveing good luck in The overthere getting suculent saps most good char just hunt there for ep as its too far to the nearest friendly merchant so i can get plenty of suculent sap for berserker madness and if you have a mask of deception, the only place to make potery outside Calibis on kunark and suculant sap is often sold by the tin merchants
Dwarven
# Aug 22 2000 at 9:35 PM Rating: Decent
a warning: 3 of the new poison making manuals are in Dwarven. I have about 8 manuals now, and I can read all but those 3. There may be more in other languages, but I don't have them yet. All of you non-dwarf rogues better start working on Dwarven, and all you Dwarves, well, you're just lucky.

Come on guys, as a spy you should knwo the language of your enemies, and as a rogue everyone is your enemy soo, i suggest learning as many languages as you can, my 22 rogue knows all pc langauges including elder plus a few others, and soem can sell for 100pp, so it quickly repays itself

How would a halfling learn dwarvish? does it just become available?
RE: Dwarven
# Aug 28 2000 at 12:10 AM Rating: Decent
You can pay a dwarf to teach you dwarven when you are on your way to or from Dagnors cauldrin, which is where those three books are. That's what I did when I found out what language the books were in. I noticed one of the books mentioned kaladim so I payed a local dwarf by Kaladim to teach me dwarvish for 5pp, I prolly could have payed less but I try to set prices based on fairness and the karma standard.

I've also heard that if you open and close the book enough times, you'll eventually learn to read it and your language skills will go up in that language, but I was too lazy to test that theory out.

To find Toxdil just out of Freeport's west gate and follow the wall to the right. There is a spot in the wall you can walk through. He's in there sometimes and sometimes not. I think it may be linked to the time of day or day of the week. His wasp poison requires 30 gold and 3 wasp poison sacs (I think). A vial and suspension cost less than 30 gold, and I believe the poison is trivial to start with, so best to save your money and make it yourself when you can.

Toxdil makes snake poison not wasp. Two snake venom sacs and 20 gold. It is a good way to start your apply skill at 18.

Toxdil supposedly spawns only at night, though I have seen him in the day (possibly he doesn't de-spawn once he has spawned?). If you can't find him, and it is night-time, kill any rats and orcs in the tunnels, as these appear to be placeholders for Toxdill. I have also seen a guard down there - just shout he is there and you may be lucky enough to get a group of guard hunters to kill him for you if you don't want the faction hits (I assume you get faction hits for killing him, I must admit I wasn't brave enough to risk it... :>).

BTW, make sure you are in the correct tunnel when looking for him. Freeport has 2, one in the south east corner of the newbie area, and the Toxdil one in the north east corner. False walls give access to the tunnels. As an aside, the south east tunnel will zone to east freeport, and eventually come out in the rogue guild near the docks (there are other exit points around). Handy for you less then welcome races to still get to the guild when near Freeport.

I can't believe nobody's posted in here yet, esspecially when there are already rog postings! Anyway, if you want to know about the origional poisons and how to go about raising you skill check out the Safe House site, it's listen in the poison making section and in the class section under rogues. As far as the new poisons, I've been doing some research on this and will post as soon as I can on their components and where to find the books in the game that reflect my conclusions.

It was cool except that the poison part of the website is butt ugly. My eyes are still blurry from all of the terrible color schemes. Please change your site...this isn't neriak!
