Baking

You need to eat to live, and the baker is able to create his own food, both for personal consumption and to sell or give away to others.

What is the best way to develop and use the baking skill? Which recipes are the most and least useful? Which cities are the best places for Bakers to practice their trade?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the baking skill, and read, rate and coment on those posted by others.

Vegetable Oil

Timorous Tuna??
# Jun 07 2001 at 4:59 PM Rating: Default
There are recipies for most fish , Timorous Tuna I havent seen. Tried all different combos of tuna and a fish scaler in mixing bowls and in the oven, NOTHING... Made some vegtable oil(Forridged veggie and water in a brew barrel) and got some snake eggs, balisk eggs(both forridged and dropped), a cocatrice egg, and avaiak eggs, Tried desprately to make MAYO,added spices and extra oil or eggs, NOTHING. YES, I'm desperately trying to make a tuna sandwich. Even went as far as trying a pie tin, and trying to assemble a tuna casserol. I thought I had it all figured out when I saw the vegtable oil recipie in the brewing recipies. In my warped mind I can see the Tuna Sandwich, I must posess it. Ill be making a clay jar , the one with the combine button on it next, and wasting more time in this obsession.
Chocolate
# Jun 07 2001 at 10:09 AM Rating: Default
Chocolate is the single most distressing thing about being a baker, IMHO. Those brownies in LFay are nasty, level 40 or something, and I can't possibly kill them..

There are brownie scouts in the Greater Faydark that are lvl 3 (or thereabouts), but the trick is finding them.. I spent an hour and a half one day tracking them and only found 1. Best of luck.

Okay, I've got a baking skill of 102, and my friends need a wedding cake for sunday. So I need 1 White Chocolate + 1 Clump of Dough + 1 Frosting + 1 Cake Round... I'm probably gonna hafta work on getting my skill a bit higher, but what i'm REALLY stressing over is the white chocolate, to whit: 2 frostings + Brownie parts in a mixing bowl. all of that is fine, but where the hell am i gonna get browinie parts? Do they mean like, little baked browinies, or am I gonna hafta go out and kill some short little pointy eared freaks to bake a freakin' cake?

freakin' destressed,

Just last week I and a group did some brownie outcast hunting. Wasn't too bad in a group that ranged from 28-39. Seems like we got brownie parts maybe half to a third of the time.

I managed to forage some griffon eggs the other day.....know any recipes for them?
RE: Griffon Eggs
# Jun 05 2001 at 1:03 PM Rating: Default
Griffon eggs are used to make a clump of dough, like any other egg. Only difference is that these make 7 clumps at one time...very nice for bakers who hate clicking and clicking and clicking to stack up that dough.
Fish Rolls
# Jun 03 2001 at 10:48 AM Rating: Default
Fish rolls are made with 1 batwing (regular, not giant) and 1 fresh fish (no other kind of fish will work), combined in an oven or spit. I make fish rolls all the time, and this is the correct recipe.

I made fish rolls to get my baking skill up to mastery. When I right-clicked on them, it said it was a banquet sized meal. Does that mean I'll eat less often with these?

Yes fish rolls are banquet sized meals, which last 2 hours each - Second longest lasting type of food
Jug of Sauces
# Jun 03 2001 at 10:46 AM Rating: Default
You can buys jugs of sauce in East Commons and in Halas, that I know of. There's a woman barb merchant upstairs in either Dok's Cigars or McDaniel's Smokes and Spirits (can't remember which), that sells baking supplies. There's also a merchant in a hut, to the right of the first Inn in East Commons that sells that stuff. I can't remember where I bought my skewers, someplace in Qeynos, I think.

Happy Baking!

you can buy skewer MOLDS from Trader's holiday in Freeport; some metal bits, water and blacksmithing around 70 shoud get you a skewer. I also remember seeing a skewer for sale by the blacksmith by the fire in armor by Ithkar (same zone in freeport), but i'm not shure if that was one of the standard things he sells, or something a player pawned to him.
dang fish rolls
# Jun 02 2001 at 2:29 PM Rating: Decent
Having a blasted hard time getting started with this one, fish and batwings just WON'T combine, not on spit not on oven. Either someone's leaving something out as an ingrediant, or it only works with certain types of fish. what gives?

I know that there are others, but the only ones I can remember off hand are the marinated muskie +1Str/+2vspoison/+2vsdisease. It is made from Rathe Muskie (get through 100+ fishing skill in Lake Rathe?). And the 1.6lbs Fetid Bass (100+ fishing skill, not sure which zone.)

I found a merchant today in Halas that sells pots. There was also a merchant selling a smoker, although I don't know if that's standard stock. Upstairs in Dok's Cigars are 3 or 4 Barbarian merchants, and one of them sells pots for a little over 1pp. If you can get to Halas, this is easier than trying to find a smith who can make one. :-)

On alot of these baking guides it says there are special combos of foods you can eat to have special abilities. What are the special abilities and what are the food combinations? If some one could clear this up fr me and send it to LatnActive@home.com I will be forever grateful. Thx )

They lie. there are no special combo's.
See Gedran's post below for stat bonuses on baked goods.
You get the stat bonus for whatever food is in the top inventory slot (meaning for whatever food is going to be auto-eaten next)
