for all those out there that think you cant make a buck or two at alchem...well you are right and wrong......i am lvl51 with alchemy at 108 atm.....with my charisma buff and wis at 203 i can buy stacks of the herbs for sow potions(1stack=20) for 102pp in thurgadin...,out of 2 stacks of each herb i can make 3 -10stack sows and a few extras......i sell my potions in the 10 stack for 75pp each and still make a nice profit....at lower lvles you will not make much but once the skill goes up it helps pay for spella and that nice gear you always wanted.....use the fairest price that you think is necessary but remember pre lvl 50 you prolly will not make a living from alchemy....

profit

I'm not sure how these people are saying this is a money maker. I am lvl 34 sham, and sow potions are trivial to me. I fail about 48% of the time with wis about 140/150. With typical sham cha, the components will cost about 5 or 6pp to make. I was NEVER able to sell a single potion, and once I was able to stack them, I have never been able to get more than 100p per stack...and they dont sell very often either. Even though it is trivial, I can only just about break even now, and I have spent about 2k getting it there ( although I only trained it to 14). If I get a chanter to buy the items for me, and buff my int/wis, I can make very small profit when they finally sell. However, I think I could make more plat looting rusty weapons for the time it takes, not to mention what I have invested in it at this point. Am I doing something wrong?
RE: profit
# Jun 25 2001 at 2:50 PM Rating: Default
Although you can not raise your skill past 37 making Blood of the Wolf (the tradeskill messages have not read 'trivial' for some time now, which makes sense - nothing that fits the dictionary definition of trivial would fail half the time), you will need a much higher skill level before you can craft this item with a high degree of success. You alchemy skill at level 34 is capped at 50, which means you will need to do some leveling before SoW potion crafting becomes reliable. My skill level is 50, and my success rate is about 70%; just enough to break even selling to players at 100pp for a 10 dose.

When you have gained a few levels and your alchemy is in the 60's or 70's, you will be successful with Blood of the Wolf much more often than you are with a 37 skill. Yes, it will take much time and platinum for you to get there. Don't expect to make much profit from these until 40th or so. Another tip; keep a few in your backpack when you travel. It has been my experience that these sell much better in dangerous zones where people need to run fast to avoid death (Rathe Mountains for example) than they do in the traditional market zones. Be patient and you will see people auctioning 'WTB SoW potions' just about everywhere. I have sold as many as 5 $tacks at once.

Good luck.

Another thing to consider...
# Aug 11 2001 at 6:21 PM Rating: Good
A high CHA never hurts. When I use CHA items and buffs, I can get it up to 105. To get stacks of all 3 components costs me exactly 105pp. Yes, I fail a lot, but out of those stacks of components, I can almost get one made in its entirety at skill level 19. I think INT plays some part in this, and considering I hve a WIS of 147 and INT of 99 at the moment, making them at higher levels should get a lot easier.

when my skill is 47. and sow potio trival at 37. I still have 1/3 fail rate. my wis is 178

I start make sow potion at level 34 whe go town to buy new spell. I invest 1kpp and get 11 stack of 10 charge potion and skill raise from 20 to 35. after that it have 1/3-1/4 fail rate. I plan to raise to 70skill to make sure 99% success rate. now need at lease 4k invest to raise to skill 70 and will make lose on selling shrink potion to get that skill.. sow potion is very bad skill. you mind able to sold 3k worth of potion per day. but it boring and not worth when you reach around level 40 to get 70skill. I only make it when grouping at DL because it give me someting to do when meding and my group laungh at me when see the fail rate

Anyone know of a cheaper way to raise alchemy higher other than Greater Potions? That valerian root is a killer, makes each potions almost 20pp a pop. Not that many actually buy them either, most of the time I end up handing them out to make room. And the buy back rate is a joke. Anywho, any ideas would be great.

do'n't raise it. it not worth and need burn 10k+ to raise those silly skill. just get trival shrink potio then stop. at this point you can almost 100% success at sow potion now.

Is there such thing as a shrink potion that can be made. and if so...what is the name of it? what are the ingredients?
RE: Shrink Potion
# May 31 2001 at 1:09 PM Rating: Default
The potion is called Ant's Potion, and can be made in 1 or 10 charge potions, maybe even 5, but haven't tried that yet.

The ingredients are Sumbul and Celandine Herb, which sell to me for around 10pp in Halas. This has been the best bang for the buck potion (It is cheaper per try than many other similarly hard-to-make potions, and seems to combine often enough to make 2 ten charge potions for me already and it sells to PCs, unlike other potions that only the vendors seem to want to buy) between alchemy skills of 30 to the 50 I am at now, and it should trivial around 70.

Average price for this potion is supposed to be 200pp and I got this price from a nice paladin in SK that wanted it for a quest. It is very handy for those Ogres and Trolls that want to bank in Thurgadin or some other towns, without having a friendly shaman around.

Tonight I tried combining Jatamasi and Clubmoss, which has worked in the past for Kilva's blistering flesh. It didn't work tonight. I tried it again, after triple checking the ingredients and quantities, and my notes. It still failed. I tried the kilva's skin of flame (same recipe + clover) and it worked. How long has this been broken, and is it a known problem and when is the fix coming in? I /bugged it in the game...

150? Bit high there... I assume you haven't trivialed them and/or you are paying high end prices for your components. After I trivialed SoW potions, it cost me an average of 7.5pp/charge after factoring in failures.. At the time the standard pricing on my server was 12pp/charge (since dropped to 10 or 11). Quite reasonable to make a profit at that level.

Unfortunately you are correct.
As much as undercutting the price of SoW potions ****** the market and makes an expensive trade unprofitable, people have been selling them for 50pp for 10 on Druzzil Ro.

This is great for the buyer, but horrible for the manufacturer. It's too bad...

Alchemy Guide (making money while doing it)
# Mar 01 2001 at 9:29 PM Rating: Good
First off i wouldnt advise starting alchemy till 30.. the skill cap for alchemy is your level minus 24 times 5. So if oyu are level 30 its
30-24=6
6x5=30
SO... the skill cap at level 30 is 30 skill. What i am doing to level in alchemy is make nothing but SoW potions... do this till you you are trivial in alchemy. First you need a medicine bag from an alchemy merchan. The recipe for Sow potions (Blood of Wolf) Birthwart (2pp) Fenugreek (2pp) Wolf Blood (1pp). Put one of each herb in the bag and hit combine. If you use only training points to level the skill then you should succeed about half the time (i have 154 wis). So the cost to make is about 10pp a potion. I sell SOW potions for 12-15pp. After you are trivial in Sow potions (skill 37) make shrink potions. Recipe for shrink potions AKA Ant's potions is: Sumbal(4pp) and Celendine Herb (5pp). I sell these potions for 16-20pp to players. Shrink potions are trivial at 70. After this its up to you.. it gets a lil too expensive to proceed further so I would just stop. Doing alchemy this way will actually make you money instead of losing it for you. An optional thing to do is get a bearskin potion bag and put 10 potions inside then hit combine. It will make a 10 charge potion of tat kind. I have found that people will buy your wares much more likely if they are 10 charges.

Im considering sending this guide to various sites.. so PLEASE rate it.

Note: I got a lot of my info from Beguiler's guide to alchmey (not sure of spelling or exact title, my apologies)

Nitsujlak is correct.
And that Alchemy gets really expensive after Shrinks become Trival so i would wait till lvl 50 to start to increase it farther. Only other thing i want after Shrink Potions are the TP Potions that sell for 1kpp i think and become Trival around 115-130 Skill. Its about 100-300pp profit if you sell a 10 charge.

Go to the left of the HALAS sign, past the bank, take a right before the Golden Torc, past Dok's Cigars to the outside of the Shaman guild area. There you will find two female vendors that sell alchemy supplies. the one on the left has the blue bulbs for about 4-5pp each.

Yes. Profitable for sure. you at least make your money back when yer starting out <given you train first 21 practices>....you need to sell them to players, but high level players who dont have sow, want sow...in thier pocket...it is easyer to sell than ...bonechips.
plus...you eventually can make <for around 200-300pp each> a gate spell potion. while that may seem lame to you <i dont know how>, do concider your shaman only has one gate that you set with bind, while these potions whisk you to innothule or everfrost. profitable and cool...theonly trade skill worth the time of a stupid race <imho>...except maybe tailoring <you need to make yer bearskin potion bag, not buy it><grizzly bear skin + silk cord>
