Begging

Begging is the ability to get small coins from various NPC's. It is a very dangerous skill, since many prefer to kill the begger rather than give him anything.

What is the best way to use this skill? How and where can you improve your begging skill? What, if any, use is this skill? What type of money can be made through begging?

Post your strategies on how to best develop and use the begging skill, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

Misan Rostenan near the Absyamal Sea portal mage doesn't attact, and does increase skill. No coin yet, but several levels of skill ups so far.

Abysmal Sea can be reached via Guild Lobby Magus to Nedaria's Landing. I found that begging from any NPC that is not a merchant or quest giver seems to skill you up fast.

Plane of Time's "a mystical snow griffon", in the snow covered area, works very well for skill ups on begging. You can also practice your foraging skill there, and pick up "rye of eternity" and "water of eternity", which are miraculous meals.
Easy begging.

Zone into Time. Look left. Run across river. Target a mystical griffon. Beg away.

I've gotten 13 skill ups in about 10 minutes.

I tried begging my pet in Korafax and Pok and baz and nothing. Interestingly enough, it was at 80 to start...because I used to beg my pet while I fished at lake of ill Omen, while waiting for mana. Way, way back in the day.

Yeah, gonna do the BiC.
How to Beg and attack in combat

It's pretty easy to skill up... Heres what I did on my BL. He's only lvl 75, but his beg skill is maxed (325). I just use it in combat along with kick and it skills up.

If you're a horrible at making hotbuttons I am going to walk you through it so that it is practically impossible to get lost while making this hotbutton:

First, Set up Begging:
Do CTRL+A. This should switch your "Actions" window (the window that normally has Find, Invite, Disband, Camp, Sit/Stand, Run/Walk on it) to the "Abilities" page. Right click on the square at the top left of the abilities page. This should bring up a window with a list of skills to pick from. Click Begging.

Second, Making the actual Hotbutton:
Type in on your chat window this text exactly as follows:
/Hotb Beg+Atk /attack off
Typing this in should make a Square appear on your cursor that says "Beg+Atk" on it. Place this Square onto your hotbar, (if you don't know what a hotbar is do ALT+H to toggle it on and off and draw some attention to where it is) it doesn't matter where on the hotbar you decide to place the square, just place it somewhere on there. Now that the hotbutton is on the hotbar, right click it. When you right click the button it should bring up a window named "Edit Social". There should be 5 lines on this hotbutton. You should edit the hotbutton so that they are like this (THIS DOES NOT ALSO INCLUDE WRITING THE PHRASES "Line #1", "Line #2", and "Line #3"):

Line #1: /attack off
Line #2: /do 1
Line #3: /attack on

Then click accept at the bottom right of the window.

While fighting a mob, click on your hotbutton and it should enable you to attack and beg at the same time.

I went to Freeport looking for the NPC mentioned, and couldn't figure out how to get into the Academy of Arcane Science. So I begged off random Freeport NPCs for about two hours, and got three skillups. Then I was on my way to PoK to get and INT buff spell, and I begged off Freeport's animals (and deathfist orc, and skellies) on the way. Goe 7 more skillups in the space of 20 minutes (keep in mind about the begging skill not being SPAMmable). So it seems animals are more likely to give you skillups then people, or rather, mobs that are designed to be killed rather then merchs and quest-givers.

This is at level 0, begging is now at 9.

I'm having an ugly time getting skill past 200 skill. Hours upon hours of begging has only gotten me to 208 skill (cap of 270 now.) Anyone have any info on if begging from yellow/red cons is better than grey/greens? At this rate it will take a month of hours to get up to cap

Going by what someone wrote about snake walking off during combat after chain begging , perhaps this skill is used to BEG creatures not to kill you?

most of the stuff people know about begging is out of date. so i will share all of the stuff that i have come to learn.

the dire charm npc in Tactics doesnt give any skill at all towards begging for some reason. and neither did ping fuzzlecutter.

you can not beg anything back from your pet, infact if you have a charmed mob as your pet you cant beg him for skill. if the thing is a pet, you cant beg anything from it.

i dont think you can gain skill from begging in PoK either, but im only thinking this because i was begging for about 2 hours while i was fishing and didnt get 1 skill increase. its entirely possible that im just really unlucky

begging doesnt help with aggro. infact, i noticed something weird when i was in freeport fighting a snake. i slowed it so that i wouldnt see all that damned battle spam, and started mashing beg. about 5 minuntes later (slow had worn off) the mob walks away.
could it be that aggro decreases over time? and if thats the case, begging didnt help me keep aggro.

oh yeah, and at 120 begging, freeport yard trash seem to be trivial begging. i dont get skill increases from them anymore. i do all of my begging in DSP while helping my girlfriend get her ranger some levels.

the most i've begged was 1 cp at a time a few dozen times in a row. my girlfriend, with 0 skill, managed to beg 1 cp from the same mob once every couple minutes, frequency increasing as her skill increased.
suddenly, however, the fast flow of cp stopped. so we switched mobs and went back to begging 1cp at the same rate till that stopped also.
guess mobs that you can beg from only have a certain amount of beggable cash. i gave them their cp back and still couldnt beg from them. i went back to them later and begged from them again and made money from it. guess their beggable cash regenerates over time?
these mobs did not aggro on us during the hours that we begged them. our level spread might have increased our chances for begging, and decreased our chances for being attacked. note that i have not been attacked for begging in almost a year now.

> oh, and i have 280 charisma. it hasnt helped me at all.

No, it's not important. It's just another one of those things they've put into the game to make it interesting but of no to extremely little value...like the Alchohol Tolerance skill.
I have a mage who has a Begging skill of 145. I almost always get only a copper peice when I beg, 1 silver peice if I'm lucky, so it's not even a good way to make money. And it only has a chance of working if the person you are begging from doesn't hate you. So if you are fighting something, while you can still beg from them, they are NEVER going to give you any money.

Er, I'm not sure when the Berserker Epic was added to the game, but, don't disregard AT as useless if you're going to help a Berserker with Epic.

The mob in Daganors Cauldron procs a nasty Alochol AE that has everyone wobbly knee'd and double-vision'd.

Praklion of the Cauldron

For the record alcohol tolerance is very useful! It gives you 'beer muscles' an makes you stronger. If you are a master of Alcohol tolerance you can drink some mead and hit for more damage! It will also affect you less and less as you get higher in level. This means you can drink before you fight and be stronger while intoxiacated. This is something that is a nice little cheat that is cheap!

It'll get you a few coins off an NPC if it works. No, you don't really need it, although some people do use a hotkey set up like this:

/attack off
/doability 3 (which ever ability BEG is)
/attack on

to get an "additional taunt". I'm not 100% sure if begging increases aggro in combat, but that's what I have seen done.

As a rog I raised it when backstabbing.
/attack off
/doabil 1 (hide, evade)
/doabil 9 (backstab)
/doabil 4 (beg (changing to pickpocket if grouping /w lootwhores))
/attack on

Did the same thing to max out instill doubt, sense heading, pick pocket, sneak, disarm.

Do you have any charisma gear on? Charisma is what gives you $$$ once you get your beg skill maxed. Still like using MMOGer to beg pet better :) but that's cause I wanted to max beg in one night.

I wanted to see if begging was worth while, so I got this program called MMOGer, and it works pretty cool. I set it up to cast my pet, then I beg from him for a few hours and cast another pet, since begging too much will eventually kill him off. In 2 nights, I had my beg skill almost maxed. With enough charisma gear on, it makes the skill kind of nice to have. Good Luck :)

I am open to any options you can suggest. Just post a reply here or send email to quelek@five2life.com.

You agreed with your wife to make 1kpp/hour to show EQ as being productive? EQ <> Productive. EQ = fun/relaxing/time wasting :-)

Best bet at lvl 30 is one of 2 things:

Rathe Mountains killing HGs - but no WAY you can make 1kpp/hour doing that at lvl 30 (at ANY level really)

Otherwise, sit in your servers Market zone, join your servers Market channel and start trading.

Good luck

#REDACTED, Posted: Nov 19 2002 at 10:01 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Cash, my friend, comes from work. You want to make 1k per hour? Easily done! First, just level up a bit. When you're getting drops worth 10k every several hours and selling them, you're making several K an hour, making some pretty sweet lewt to keep as well as No Drop and good faction, not to mention raising your level. yeah, you can be cheap about EQ, but you can also earn your EQ $.

What Dark Elfs can do is go to the dock in Neriak Commons.
There is a lowbie NPC standing there for no reason.

Buy a spit, target the NPC, fish (Raises fishing), bake Fish fillets or fish rolls in your spit (Raises baking) while begging at the same time.

Believe it or not doing these 3 skills at once keeps you busy as hell!

If the NPC aggros, just zone.
Dont kill him.
Bad faction hit.
