I'm hoping to locate some simple enough recipes to raise my skill from 215 up to 300. I will try to post some recipes I have used to get up to 215. IF ANYONE has advice from jumping from 215-230, 230-250, 250-275 and 275 to 300...I would greatly appreciate you posting them under this thread. Thanks in advance.

Can anyone please confirm or deny that this was taken out of the game "Regal Gnomish Cultural Tinkering" Allah & Eqtraders give slightly different locations to obtain but none have shown up on the NPC's provided. Do i have to be 300 skill? Do i have to be level 100? Was it taken out of the game? HELP!!, I want my 96-100 Cultural Armor !!

I think this is probably the slowest EQ tradeskill to level up, and I've done them all.

I made a gnome rogue and leveled him to 70 expressly to do tinkering and poison-making. Poison was quick. I'm still working on tinkering.

The only reasonable non-cultural path to max out tinkering is to make silver conduit armor. This involves two rather uncomplicated combines:

1 Pure Silver Ingot + 1 Sunshard Ore makes a Silver Conduit (triv 290)

1 Silver Conduit + 1 Conduit Core Pattern makes a Silver Conduit Small Core. (triv 303.)

Just did 300 combines of each to get from 255 to 285. That's 30 skill-ups from 600 non-triv combines, or a 5% rate. Seems lower than any other skill in my memory.

One problem is that with this low a level of trivial, most combines succeed, which means while using a Draught of the Craftsman (2 hours of no-failures) you burn through components rapidly. The logjam is the Sunshard Ore, which is non-vendor.

The Pure Silver Ingot costs 457pp and Sunshard ores sell in the Bazaar for 100-300pp, when you can find them. The Pattern is chump change. You can sell back the Silver Conduit Small Core for 409pp. So I figure 30 skill-ups cost me about 55kpp. But now I'm outta ore!

With higher trivials, you'd fail more often which with the Draught in effect, means you don't lose components and can keep clickin'. Problem is that the tinkering trivials above 400-500+ are all cultural and those recipes have their own complications, including involved quests and obtaining multiple uncommon non-vendor components.

I figure once I can gather another 300 or so Sunshard ores, I should be able to max out Tinkering. We shall see.

UPDATE: 360 more combines to get from 285 to 295. So skill-up rate is now under 3%!

ok. Got Raw Dark Matter, Raw Infused Dark Matter. Did the turn-ins to the 2 in Abysmal Sea. Got the items Dark Matter and Infused Dark Matter. They combine to Grain of Dark Matter and Portion of Infused Dark Matter. Why does my combine with the original materials (raw items) keep saying that I "lack the knowledge to work with this material. How do I get that knowledge?? Or is this just a total waste of time. My tinkering is currently 55/300, and what I have made is a triv of 16. also those recipes show up on the recipes but there is a (refined) after the name.

Okay, for the quest to get the recipes for Dark matter you need to go to the Abysmal Sea and the Tinkerer supply NPCs Skelontorim and Tialechaety Orrethmech.

Start by talking to the guy, Skelontorim. The talking triggers are [- Gnome - New Matter -] (you may want to do the "lend a hand" bit first? trigger also given after - Gnome -) He wants you to bring him Raw Dark Matter, he'll take it and give you back two Dark Matters... It's a collection task, once you have it, he and the woman, won't give any other tasks. Sadly this task is not listed in your quest window... you have to keep giving him Raw dark Matter until it will most likely prompt you to talk to Tiarlechaety. (I've turned in around 25 raw dark matters, doesn't seem to be enough yet... might be close to a hundred... I am unsure.) When you give him Raw dark Matter you'll get the successful task sound (doo doo dooooo doo <or however you'd write it out> but, since no actual listing, the total number needed is unknown). She also has turnin task collection set up same as guy, no listing and same audio success noise. She takes Raw Infused Dark Matter instead though. She also mentions that you are to bring her the Dark Matter Skelon makes for you, and she'll give you work that will lead you to the recipes with it...

WARNING, until you've succeded in the collection with Skelontorim (or both collections - unsure) She will take and keep your Dark Matter, while saying she's very ordered person and you need to finish the thing you were asked before (ie... the collections) she will give you the work that'll lead to the recipes. This is the same thing Skelontrim says after you've gone through the - Gnome - New Matter - chat triggers.

Okay, so I finally figured out what the problem/fix is/was. First, ignore everything I said before. Wasn't a collection from them I had to do first. In fact it wasn't anything with them at all. I had done the Creasant Reach tinkering tasks (the ones with actual quests) and had left over supplies from those I just dropped in the bank. The two Abysmal Sea Gnomes are only as good as their programming, so even though I never got

https://everquest.allakhazam.com/db/quest.html?quest=2889

Both the CR quests, and this one use the same items and create same end products. Since I had left-overs from the CR tasks that I just left in bank rather than destroyed, these two thought I still had to finish task with them. Once that was taken care of, Skelontorim gave me the supplies to start his task (link above) once I said "lend a hand", just kept doing that through the 4 simple items till he stopped and gave me the finished response.

My guess is that after the CR stuff was taken care of, Tielachaety would of allowed me to do her task

http://www.eqtraders.com/articles/article_page.php?article=q165&menustr=120037000000

But since I'd done Skelo's first she just said I've done enough, and just to tell him I've "lend a hand"

Aolene,
You need to do one of the tradeskill specific quests to refine this yourself.
See this page to read up on it.
You will need to talk to Skelontorim Orrthemech in Abysmal to do a couple of tasks to gain the ability.

Getting recipes from toolbox
# Nov 04 2004 at 2:34 AM Rating: Decent
This is probably a huge newb question, so please forgive me if the answer to what I'm about to ask is blindingly obvious. =)

I was looking up various recipes that you can find on this site in my toolbox window, but could not find them. In particular, I tried looking up the recipe for "Gnomish Fireworks", which is documented on this site, but when I did a search for it in my toolbox, the recipe would not be returned. My min and max trivial settings are 0 and 500 respectively, and my Gnome is lvl 11. Would someone please enlighten me as to how to fix this?
Getting recipes from toolbox
# Dec 26 2006 at 4:46 PM Rating: Decent
Your tool box starts with a basic set of items and recipies. Just like the other skill items, you have to 'Experiment' to add a recipe, make the item correctly, and succeed to have it added into your list.

www.Eqtraders.com has a good list of recipes and items made.

Do you know if you can even do tinkering at level 11. Everywhere I've read says you can't level past 50 until 16. I just thought that meant you couldn't do it until then either.

I am somewhat confused, hoping someone can help me. Everything i have read says that only "gnomes" can tinker. But, my Barb beastlord was able to train at her guildmaster for tinkering. Was this a useless point to the guildmaster or can my barb beastmaster actually be a tinkerer? when i trained in tinkering it went to 20.

Pls advise,

Anyone can tinker. You place the appropriate components in a toolbox, and hit combine. You might get lucky.

Gnomes begin with 50 skill at level 1 and can not improve their skill until level 16.

Non-Gnomes begin with zero skill. So your odds of success are permanently between slim and none.

Here's a fun thing: like poison-making and alchemy, when it comes to raising tradeskills past 200, Tinkering does not count. In other words, you can raise tinkering to 250 and 1 other tradeskill without having to put AA points into it.

...and heck, yeah, it's worth it :)

the geerlok fermentation devices were probably made by someone practicing (cheapest way to raise your tinkering skill is to make these things). you will probably start finding more and more of them floating around merchants as the recipe becomes public knowledge.

As for reselling them, I wouldn't bother. Most brewers I know aren't too worried about an extra couple of percent on their skill. So far as I am aware brewing isn't al that difficult/expensive to raise (but I could be wrong there too :p)
Katta Castellum?
# Mar 15 2002 at 11:02 PM Rating: Decent
I have been told that The Geerloks, two merchants that sell most tinkering books and equipment, are located in katta Castellum. I have looked on numerous maps and webites and can not find this place called Katta Castellum. Is it a zone? If so what zones is it located by? Or is it a building/store? If so, what city is it located in and by what?

thanks everyone

Katta Castellum is a Luclin zone. From Shadow Haven you can get to it in two (most direct) ways:
Shadow Haven -> Paludal Cavens -> Hollowshade Moor -> Grimling Forest -> Tenebrous Mountains -> Katta Castellum
or
Shadow Haven -> Echo Caverns -> Fungus Grove -> Twilight Sea -> Katta Castellum
The way Fungus Grove -> Twilight Sea is vir a teleport and is in a 50 plus zone so you might want to consider going the longer way (although i have heard that you can run there without anything agroing you in the zone).

Once you are in Katta Castellum you need to make your way down the winding path to the bank. At the bank, the tunnel to the tinkers is behind the bank on the left hand side as you look at the bank.
