In reply to your post Neihaera, the planar bows are made with special bowstrings that give the bows special magical properties. They have to be made with special ingredients that have those magical properties.

Edit// Oh, but you are asking, how come we cant make bowstrings for non-planar bows out of other ingredients. Hehe. sorry had to re-read your post.

All i really want to know, is why, with all the fibers CURRENTLY available for use in the game, only the few planar bows have a player-made bowstring ... just for information's sake, a perfectly good bowstring can be braided out of four strands of silk, and waxed (clumps of wax available from the fletcher's supply shop in PoK). BTW, this is a real life bowyer speaking ...
