Did this on my cleric 1st try skill 250 unmodifed.
Too many Failure
# Dec 03 2004 at 11:46 AM Rating: Decent
With my skill at 249 and a geerlok on top of that and one level of Jewelcraft Mastery and 2 levels of salvage I still failed 5 times and lost 4 seals. What the heck is up with that. Finaly got it though on 6th try. Good thing I make the seals myself.

Man - I skilled up to 232ish - got a geerlok tool to get it over 240---tried FOUR TIMES (twice with FA - which meant i had 355 int and 305 dex) and FAILED ALL FOUR TIMES....im so pissed

neither of those had anything to do with the failure though. Success/Failure is based on your skill level, the high Int would have just increased your chance of a skill up.

DEX has a lot to do with Success/Failure

You took the risk, though.

Four failures is alot, but also take into consideration - people have gone through 15 failures before they got thiers at your skill level.

Calm down, and just try again.
does lvl affect this combine?
# Jan 24 2004 at 5:55 AM Rating: Decent
I am level 32 enchanter and have a JC skill of 250, and failed twice in a row to achieve the combine to make the grandmaster eyepiece. Does the fact that I am lvl 32 affect the chance?
Fizzle mania
# Jan 09 2004 at 12:02 PM Rating: Decent
Ok so i have a 246 JC and 164 Dex and 339 Int with geerlok and fizzled this crap twice in row. The really amazing thing is I have been able to make without fails the high end Planar JC stuff since 240 and they triv over 250. Im 250 now since I did this combine but I doubt Im gonna bother for a while - too pissed off to even consider it. Wasted 2 Artisan Seal's I easily could have sold for 6K on the Rathe.

Good luck....

2 times is nothing, this item is way above 250 trivial.. its a trophy and finale to your JC training, if you are not worthy of a Trophy, by all means stop trying to make it. Only the dedicated people get the Trophies.

Umm, he said he had 246, + geerlok, which would put him to the hardcap of 252.

He HAS the maximum skill possible for the combine.

Also, I got my Cleric his smithing trophy at 232 skill, on 3 tries, and my druid a brewing trophy on 2 tries at 200 skill.

So they are not impossible at lower skill, and as I pointed out before, the poster you replied to, had max modified skill anyway.

Survey says....this combine is worthless
# Dec 21 2003 at 11:16 PM Rating: Decent
Just thought I'd share a bit of knowledge on this and all GM itmes like this. Just dont do it. After spending 15k on three failed combines my brain finally kicked in and ask wtf you doing? for 15k you could have 3 bags of the tinkerers and you already have a geerlock for the 5% mod so quit being a moron and stop it already. basically if you try these the best that can happen is it combines the first time and you come out even..it goes downhill fast after that.
RE: Survey says....this combine is worthless
# Jan 09 2004 at 2:36 PM Rating: Default
Well.. I always get the trophies after 250 in a skill.. just cause. its dedication.. %5 mod items from Tinkers only fit in Primary slot, these fit in all held.. Its nice to summon your own temp 10 slot 100% wt/reduc bags when you need them, its not all about the free one you get, you can only get once, but didn't stop me from getting the trophies from other Trades just to have the Trophy, Its an accomplishment not based on plat, do it to polish off all that training you did.

Sucessfully completed the combine (first try) with 250 Skill + 5% Geerlock. Worthless? Not for an Enchanter who doesn't have an easy way to get a +50 CHA Pri/Sec/Range Item!

me too

I have tried this combine 3 times at 250, and the final combine has failed all 3 times. If you are able to make this first or second try, consider yourself fortunate.

Was able to make it at first attempt. Then I noticed in the bazaar (E'Ci) that the Artisan's Seal is selling for like 5500p. SO I decided to be greedy and make four. Failed on the firing with the HQ sheet on the last one. Shows the seal is trivial at 102. Sucks when you lose roughly 3k on a fail! But, guess that why the seals sell like they do!
New GM Jeweler, with Trophy
# Aug 06 2003 at 3:01 PM Rating: Decent
lo all, still going on the adrenaline from the combines.. made it the eyeglass with my first attempt. i was very, very nervous. i just followed the recipe, and bought the gems from the bazaar. i had a 122 pottery, and the seal combine was trivial.. don't know what was up with that, but hey, i'm not complaining..

grats to all that spend the time and effort to get this, i'm in love with mine already, and i've only had it for a few minutes.

Goreu, 53 Chanter, Prexus

Edit: just did it again, failed on first 2 combines with another character, another server.. so, i guess i was really really lucky.. Again, Grats to all who have the time, patience, and money to do this.. (i'm still in love with the eyeglass, can't wait to GM another tradeskill)

Do you have to enchant all the bars, including the ones in the artisan seal and the silver bar with the artisan seal combine? please let me know, thanks =)

I bought my Artisan's Seal and combined it with a non-enchanted silver bar and da-dum - the eyeglass. So at the final combine, no, you dont have to enchant the silver bar.

I was a little dissapointed to find that although you can indeed put this in your ammo slot, you DONT get the benefit of the stats in that slot. Since the other slots have better equipment in them, I guess this will get dusty on the shelf until I go to craft =/.

Woot I'm rather happy!

Just got JC to 250 without the gem setter and decided to put together the GM jewelers eyeglass in the same evening. What can I say first attempt on all combines and as for the final combine.... yup you guessed it, I crafted it first time.

As a result I'd like to share my thoughts on the matter and have read all the previous as well as the JC skilling ones so if I'm covering old ground a bit forgive me.

Firstly to answer the enchant bars question. I never enchanted any any of them.

On JC skill leveling. As most know the highest of INT/ WIS is the key factor in level speed. However and I can be distupted on this, as I've read numerous articles. I noted a marked difference in skill leveling speed the higher the DEX I had, too. Now I'm aware that this is used with the trade skill level to determine if you fail (again stand to be corrected) or create something new. This was also noted when I varied my dex. As an Enchanter I started with 124 dex and after buffing , Augment and Night terror illusion I had 280 dex. At the same time I kept a constant 280 INT. Between the two dex levels there was a marked increase in skill leveling and a more minor but notable drop in fail rate. BTW JC tends to pay for itself if you are a chanter, I actually made close to 1kpp between skill 204 and skill 250. I'm an erudite and cast collaboration on the erudite vendor and had a 253 CHA at the time.

Now for my experience in making the GM JE.

As above states combine the jewels and velium (2 seperate pieces) in a PoP Jewel kit bag (jewel kit might do, never tried). The bag is bought from the jeweler vendor in POK located roughly between the two banks there.

You'll need a chanter for the purified mana potion but basically heres what to do. I went to thurg to carry this out. Get the vial sketch from the dorf in the bank/ exchange and HQ fire sheet, small clay. Combine on the wheel vial sketch, skin (old world skins, L/M/H wolf for example or zombie buy in bazaar), flask of water and small clay piece to get an unfired poison vial. take this and the HQ firing sheet to the kiln and combine to get the poison vial.

Give this to the chanter and 4 rubies (i had these in bank from Erudite palace but might sell in thurg (JC merchant left out of bank 2nd or third door). He leaves these in his inventory and casts purify mana, bingo you get the vial of purified mana.

Now place all mounted gems, small clay piece, flask of water, vial of purified mana on the potters wheel and combine to get the unfired artisans seal.

Place the A seal and a HQ firing sheet in the kiln and combine. Hooray an artisans seal.

Pop the A seal, shard of glass (get off same dorf in thurg exchange the one in the left corner) and a silver bar (can get in Thurg as stated earlier) into your planer jewelers kit bag (pass if ordinary works) and combine. If you are fortunate you end up with a very nice item.

Although im 250 jc skill I used gem setter at all times I was Jewel crafting. Pottery skill 166 only. As stated in part other potential useable stats where INT 280, Dex 280, Wis 160, Cha 253. Im now Cha 280 thnx to the GM EG - hehe should be nice charm kiting.

Sorry for the length but thought it might be useful.

If you go to the full list of stats for this item, you will see that it is no drop, so you cannot sell it.
WARNING
# Jan 28 2003 at 8:38 AM Rating: Decent
Ok so here is the scoop, which is already covered a little in posts below. I wanted to give an overall warning though.....

I saw this and thought what a great piece!!! With this in my range slot(as no stats are gained from ammo it seems) I would have the freedom to change around some items that I wore in regular inventory. I am a 62 Enchanter and still have a Velium Ruby Veil on my face(+9 Cha). This piece DOES give you that freedom, HOWEVER I forgot to take into effect the level cap. I have well over 265 Cha at this point, but can't gain the max even with buffs untill I hit level 65. (Caught up in the joy of making it I forgot this and was upset initialy)

So with caugh up in the joy of making it, let me give the warning....

1. At level 240 JC I figured I could make this since I had a 5% skill mod item. I was cautious(not enough though) and waited until 242. I have high int and wis since I am a chanter and can buff what doesn't exsist naturaly. I have a high Cha so I did get the best vendor pprices possible. I still failed with all the above factors though. It is pricey even with the fact that I made the artisian seal. The breakdown on cost is as follows ( I am rounding here as well to preclude gp, sp, and cp's)

Pottery items needed = 5pp
4 rubies = 184pp a piece
1 Blue Diamond = 210pp
1 Diamond = 210pp
1 jacinth= 200pp
1 Black Saph = 200pp

8 bars of Velium = 2100pp

So around 3.2k roughly give or take on your server and the availability of the items...That is if you do not have to spend money to level up your skill.

So I thought after reading these posts, that if one person can do it at 240 w/5 % mod so can I. Perhaps you can. perhaps he was the exception and I was the rule or vice versaI do not know.

I failed once on the combine in the JC part, and once at level 245 in the combine of the artisian seal which had been trivial sometime ago. the third try I did make it. I had leveled up to 250 then in JC and was a breeze.

Do yourself a favor, wait untill you are 250. learn from my mistakes. It took me longer to go around collect the items all over again, and KEI people for money in the nexus to afford the items, and sit down and get the skill up to where it should be, then if I had just waited the extra hour it would have taken to get my JC to 250 initialy.

So with all that said this is a GREAT item. Now I have the freedom to replace some other less appealing items I was wearing since this has +50 Cha. If you are an enchanter, this is surely worth it. I just wish I had made these when they were non lore.

Happy combining, do not give up, do not jump the gun, and do not fling yourself from the top of the NK spires!!!!!
