when you eat this it add those stats? or do you get those stats by having it in your inventory?

It must be in your inventory. In the first slot in which you have food. basically, it must be the next item that would normally be consumed.

If you eat it, and only have one, you lose the stats immediately.

What you can do, is keep some regualr food in a lower slot, and forcefeed yourself periodicaly, until you get the "...or you will explode" message.

I have found that this is really useful in REDUCING the rate at which you consume stat food, but you will inevitably forget, and eat some. As a wis caster, I like to keep misty picnics and qeynos tea in my first food and drink slots, and forcefeed myself summoned food/drink.

Also, when not using the stats, travelling, chatting with people. switch them with your non stat food, to reduce the risk that you will eat it.
