The Gnome

race logoThe Gnome starts off in the far city of Ak'Anon on the continent of Faydwer and generally hunts in the Steamfont Mountains during his or her formative years. Gnomes get their own unique trade skill: tinkering. What is the best strategy for playing a Gnome? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? What are the best quests in Ak'Anon for the beginning Gnome? Where are the best shops in Ak'Anon? How should you role play your gnome?

Post your strategies on how to best play a Gnome, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

As a Gnome CLR, I was able to choose from 2-3 deity's. Bertox, King of thieves, and 1 other (Prince of something I think).. I am looking for the Initate's quest for the King of Thieves god. (And his friggin Name) I would really appreciate The God's name and/or any info on the Initiate (neck slot) Quest associated with this deity. I know that Rogue's are associated with this god, so I'm expecting that those types would be able to provide the best info.(Whether or not a CLR can wear it remains to be seen..)

Seemed odd to me that Pally's and CLR's of the Gnomish decent can only choose Evil gods to follow... I have been doing "good" quests to keep me on the NPC's friends list ;), but I think I may have to go to the Chaotic side of Justice to find/complete the "King of Thieves" quest.

If someone were to make a guild on a pvp server that was made entirly out of low level halflings and gnomes who ran around in packs and killed people, would YOU join?

"what would be the best class to help support the gnome in his or her tinkering skills?"

I notice that there is an evil warrior guild trainer, and I thought that would be fun, so I went to him first. I tried to hail him, I right clicked, I even handed him my note and nothing happened. Do you have to worship a certain diety or something. I still want to give it a shot so please respond if you know a way to be an evil gnome warrior. Oh yeah and I mean evil through the trainer...not head butting everyone in the nuts, which has been my best taunt so far...

Have to worship an evil deity (Bertoxx, I think) when you create the character. Being an evil warrior will limit your movements though... I have a gnome SK who is dubious to everyone in Gfay, but still KOS to the dwarves, so no boat to FP. Been killing orcs for about 6 lvls now, but no change in factions.

I just started a Gnome Enchanter and am amazed by the movement speed. Am I imagining things?

My Barbarian seems to move significantly slower than my Gnome. Maybe it's because of height, it just seems faster when you're that close to the ground. Something like a small sports car vs a pickup truck--they can both be doing 60mph but the sports car seems faster.

Does anyone know if the Gnome moves faster? Any foot races (Olymics?) between races?

All races move the same speed its just that barbs are taller and so it looks like you run slow and gnomes are short so the ground looks like its flying by...Good luck

I am not that sure about that, once i played a dwarf. I didn't have sow and I was smoking a Wood Elf Bard. Of corse he didn't have his speed spells going. My agi was just standered.

Yes, it is an optical illusion. Base speed is the same for every race.

Speed is based on DEX and the weight you are carrying.

Speed enhancing spells vary in effect. SOW, as I understand it, is faster the higher the level of the caster. Bard song speed depends on the level of the bard, whether or not the bard is using a drum, and whether or not the drum is magical. Horses have varying speeds depending on the bridal. Journeyman's Boots and Traveller's Boots (JBoots and TBoots) have a set value.

Terrain can have an effect - moving through water your speed is affected by your Swimming skill.

I think I hit all the parameters.

Umm, lots! Gnomes are the third-smartest race for necros, only one point shy of the dark elves, which is nice. They can see in the dark, which is a bonus over the erudites. They can tinker, which is always a bonus. Steamfont is WAY better for getting bone chips than most other places, so that helps. Plus, what's more fun than a 4ft robed figure with a 6ft pet kicking butt all across Norrath?!? As with all gnome characters, it's all about roleplaying -- it's just a blast! Hope this helps!

I dont know if anyone said a thing about this topic. But man were old gnome modles much better then the new ones.I know some of you might disagree with me.The gnome ninja armor look was so awsome and they were my fav RACE!.They were short funny looking things, but now there turned into serious not so funny looking..things.There new helm look is odd.It looks like a watered down version of the velious helm you could get with gnomes.I know what your gonna say too,if you dont like it why not turn the modles off.Its not that easy. Some people are still gonna see you as the new modle of course so it doesnt matter much.So much..for being a gnome rogue.Anyways please share your opion on the new modle if you like it or not.I want to hear them.

I think the new model looks awesome. I play a Gnome Warrior on Sullon Zek and I like my look. How can you not like the Lollypop Kids haircut from the wizard of oz? Plus the new armor look is cool. I think the helmet is supposed to be a tinkering helmet, it's got glass so sparks don't fly in your eyes when you tinker, and it keeps the blood out of my eyes when I'm fighting.

I agree, i think new gnome models suk. and i think it does matter what other people see of u. i don't want people to think i look gae, even if I have models turned off, they can still see. half the fun of looking cool is other people seein u lookin good...

i personally don't like any other lucin models either so i just run with em off, and make random posts like this to vent.

Evil PvP Gnome Mage
# Jan 12 2002 at 5:59 PM Rating: Decent
Hey all, I think I may have bitten off more then I can chew.

I started off a Gnome Mage on the diety based PvP server, worshiping Bertox. I was able to find my trainer in the mines, but I was unable to find anywhere in the mines that will sell Mage spells. No one will really talk to me in any of the other guilds, seeing that I worship Bertox...

Is there anywhere that will sell an evil Gnome spells in the city of Ak'Annon or will I have to make the trip to Qeynos and try to buy from merchants in the Catacombes? I have no clue if I'm KOS there or anything.

As an evil Gnome Mage, I really don't want to base my operations out of Queynos, but if it is the only way...

Thanks

# Mar 13 2002 at 11:33 AM Rating: Decent
Did the same thing myself once. I believe that if you don't hand in your guild note your faction will be good enough to buy from the ordinary spell vendors.

A bit late for you but for the next guy.. :)

Don't know how a bertox worshipping gnome would go in neriak though. Most zones around there are controlled by evils so it might be the place you should make your new home.

If you haven't already then make the trip before you ding 6 and loose your pvp-immunity. Lots of people who want to kill you on your way through GFay.

Also watch out for the guards in butcherblock. They are KOS to you. Found that one out the hard way.

# Dec 27 2001 at 5:13 PM Rating: Default
I have two gnomes that i play on E'ci server. One is named Ritishi(which incodently i play the most)and the other...is named Choh Neez. Ritishi was the first character i ever made...and by far one of the funnest. Being my first character, i completely screwed up my bonus points at the character select screen...i put all his points into INTEL. Great stats for a gnome rogue huh? lol. <-- I still laugh at it. But his dex and str arent too shaby considering his 115 intel or whatever he has. My str is like 137 and dex is 147. The intel actually is a blessing in disguise for me because i learn things quicker than most other rogues. (But by the time im 60 and everything there is to learn is maxed ima be wishing i had higher str and dex lol) Its not 200 str like some barbarian rogue but, seriously...what gets the ladies? SMART SEXY ROGUES! Not uglee stupit barbs. Seriously, what good is 200 str when my lil guy is movin around so fast u cant even see him? And if gnome rogues werent ULTRA UBER SEXY...then why would they make a gnome mask for rogues? I dont see a Barbarian mask.... Out of all my characters, this one is the funnest, Master at practically everything at level 32. I definantly have the SWS. And when a shaman casts that grow spell...im all over the ogres tellin em to pick on someone their own size.

And what is a useuall amount of people on a server? is it only like 10 people or hundreds???

PLEASE someone fill me in about these servers!

I personally play on The Rathe server it is the most mature server on the game so i think it is the best.

When you said like 10 people or hundreds per server i think you are thinking of diablo with player made servers.... Each server holds in the thousands of players somtimes 10's of thousands.

Good Luck finding a server you enjoy

I'm getting EverQuest in like a munth and I'm trying to find out as much as possible about it so I'm not to biggest moron in the game! So I have decided that I'm going to be either a Gnome or a Halfling but I have a few questions....
1) What one is the smallest?
2) What one is liked by the most people?
3) Who is the best when Classed as a Warrior?
Those are all the questions I have right now but I know I'll have more soon (lol) So I hope someone can answer at least one of em!

1) Gnomes are smaller
2) Halflings make better warriors
3) Gnomes have less racial tensions with other races, also depending on which god you cho0se.

i know that feeling. ive been watching the game closely for 2 years occasionaly starting new char. on my friends comp.(my moms idea of a good gaming comp. was a mac)

halflings are a little shorter.

halflings have better stats for warrior than gnomes but there is still better races for warriors.

halflings make great rougues and when worshoping the duke of below are not kos in the hole.

gnomes are good int. casters.

they both have only a racial tension with iksar.
both have infravision.

halflings can sneak and hide.

i hope i can help you. if you need more info email me at kirmet_d_frog@hotmail.com

First I would like to share the power of us small, traquil creatures. We are born small but with powers unmatched by any our size. Our intellect is only out matched by Snobish Erudites and develish Dark Elves. Our bodily strength is small, but can be improved with practice. When considering a race Vote Gnome. You will be loved throughout the world by Players everywhere. You are will also be a chick magnet! Good luck and vote GNOME!

Like me, I have two +2 enchanted strength rings that my friend gave me, my armor has a strength buff, my gauntlets have a strength buff, my belt and necklace have a strength buff, and one of my weaps has a strength buff. I am a level 18 gnome warrior and have have a strength of 120 now, like I said, it's not that difficult, all you need, is a sense of adventure to find the items.

I play a lvl 10 Gnome Wizard on the pvp diety server Sullon Zek. On this server we are on the Neutral alignment (we are allied with Dwarves, halflings, and sometimes dark elves, humans, depending on diety) anyway, all us midgets are on the neutral team. My guess is that if your a gnome/dwarf/halfling warrior, but especially gnome, you can get around the crappy base strength by running around the enemy. I fought my barbarian friend and won in melee because he couldn't see me. I was too small. Keep this in mind if your dueling anyone bigger then you are, it helps.

To me playing a gnome warrior is fun, if at the start of the game, you spend your ability points right, I usually put them in the first three stats. Well anyway, later in the game, I picked up some strength buffing items, and now my gnome warrior is awesome, hmmm, ever know a gnome warrior with 118 strength, armed with a silvery war axe, fine steel longsword in offhand, dwarven ringmail tunic, +20 ac no drop gauntlets, and some other nice gear(which i keep bagged most of the time.) If any of you are on the Ralloszek server and feel like talking, just send my character Tinyfist a tell.
