The Dark Elf

race logoThe Dark Elf starts off in the City of Neriak and generally hunts in Nektulos Forest during his or her formative years. Dark Elves are an evil race, and are killed on site in most places in Norrath. What is the best strategy for playing a Dark Elf? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? Is there a way to develop enough faction to be accepted in the good cities? What are the best quests in Neriak for the beginning Dark Elf? Where are the best shops in Neriak? How should you role play your dark elf?

Hey, i have a Lvl 38 DE mage, and i was in nek forest, and some of the guards conned green to me, so i thought, Hey! lets see if i can kill these guys, oops! I didn't know that was a problem, because when you killed them, it didn't say *your faction with bla bla bla got better or worse*, i don't know what to do, now all the guards that are red to me, hate me, and kill me
How can i raise my faction with them again, so everything is good?

Bah.. Anyways, I just created a dark elf cleric. And before you get done reading this next sentence, you will call me crazy.. and yes, I am. I am right now right outside Kelethin.. I'm actually right in the middle of the 'Druid circle' in the n00b area. I plan on leveling until 9 or so, then I plan on going to Crushbone and killing more orcs there.. Eventually, I'll be grouping in the Throne room in Crushbone. From there, I will go to Paluadal Caverns until level 25-26, from there I will make my way to HighHold Keep. If I have to, I will kill the orcs outside, so I can get into the basement and slay some goblins. Then I will make my way to the Overthere. Then I'll get bored with OT just like I did with my main chara, who is only lvl 33. It sucks, Im not even half way to 40, and I cant stand leveling with my main anymore because of the EXTREMELY boring SF ramp in OT. Not to mention it the BIGGEST pain in the *** to find a decent group that actually sticks around for more than half a level, or 2 and a half yellow bubbles. But anyway, back on topic. How, do you guys think, will the faction hits affect my character? I'm not worried about my home town, as I plan on making this dark elf a neutral character.. In fact, I wouldnt mind making him KoS to all the rest of the dark elves. Basically I want to be able to walk and/or buy in Kelethin and Kaladim. I know it will take awhile, but once again, I dont care. What you all think?

Tenolein you idiot, orcs are allied with dark elves. Actually you need to kill a lot to actually get any real faction hits in neriak, but still, let them live and slaughter elves to their hearts content.

I tend to agree. I go to Blackburrow instead to get Qeyons faction without any faction hits at home until 12 lvl and then I will go to Kurn's Tower until 16 after which I go to PC (I can get a lot of bone chips in Kurn's Tower and I am a necro)

Well, for some of us nutcases, playing with faction is a blast. My iksar shaman is Ally to guards/merchants/etc. in Highkeep, dubious in Misty thicket/rivervale, to the guards, and can walk thru freeport east and west.

Now, you might wonder, why did I tell you this, as these are not the places you asked about?

Simple, to demonstrate a point. Killing orcs in Gfay/crushbone, will help with SOME of your kelethin factions. However, be aware that there are various mobs throughout the city, that are on different factions. The guards in Highkeep love my Iksar. The bard outside the keep entry attacks him.

The guards in freeport like my iksar, the merchants won't sell to him, and some guy inside the bar right inside the west gate attacks every time I come within range.

BTW, to get faction in Highkeep, you probably will have to kill orcs. However, you can also buy orc scalps/goblin ears and turn them in to the approriate guard captains, to speed the process along. For the scalps, you need to be dubious (wolf form or illusion:human helps with this). To turn in to the captain INSide the keep (goblin ears) you must be about halfway through the dubious range, otherwise he just takes the ears and insults you.

Also, note that the orc scalps are the SAME ONES that drop in crushbone and on orc hill (not the pawn scalps though), so start saving/buying them when you are at this stage, it will speed the next stage up.

Also, for kaladim faction, save the crushbone belts/pads and once you get faction to dubious (with wolfform) you can turn these in for fairly big faction hits. About 5 backpacks full took one of my characters from apprehensive to ally.

Anyway, some folks will tell you that factioning is a waste of time, since it doesn't mean much on Luclin/PoP, but personally, I find it fun, and if you do as well, enjoy.

Lastly, you might want to try luclin for your main. I think Marus Saru is where people go at your level. Luclin has really replaced Kunark as the popular spot to levelfrom 16-46 or so.

Yes, alot of people think its stupid to even THINK about my faction.. but like you say, its fun. I appreciate your help, and I already have 2 and a half backpacks full of belts/pads. Marus Saru is a place I havent been at, so I will look it up as to how to get there.. Maybe I can get more exp there.. Thanks again for all your help! Later!

Hey, I'm a level 35 Dark Elf Necromancer on Zeb. I'm looking to get into some more cultural smithing, but having a problem acquiring essesnce of shadows, if you know anywhere that is easy and/or cheap (and not Bazaar, they are way too expensive there), let me know. Or if you want to group to hunt down some shadowed men, that would be great, especially from a cleric or magician. Either post a response, or e-mail me at Tamariba@aol.com

# Jun 23 2003 at 4:36 AM Rating: Decent
Ah...the sweet smell of victory in the morning, and not to just dump the loot.

"I dont trade with the likes of you!"

WHAT?!?

I know, I know...Not everybody likes Dark Elf necromancer who worships Innoruuk, but hey...profit is profit. Is there anyway to get the shopkeepers to want to trade, or am I doomed to keep going back to Neriak to dump of loot?

At the moment I'm shightseeing the Estate of Unrest not far from Dagnor's Cauldron. The only way I can see to get food, water and sell the items people have..eh...given to me is to go to Butcherblock Mountains. Then I can use the PoK trick to get back to Neriak. But there HAS to be an easerier way...doesn't it?!?

Aye, PoK shopkeepers sell to everyone no matter what race you are. Same goes for some Luclin shopkeepers in shadowhaven and sharval. If I remember correctly you can buy some food and water inside the old East commonland tunnel where shady is. Shady himself doesn't sell food or water but the merchants around him might. Hope this helps!

Not to mention Freeport -- you are dubious to the guards, so you can wander most of the East and West zones if you just read carefully (avoid the Mage/Wiz/Chanter guild and Hogcaller's Inn in WFP, and the slums and Seafarer's Roost in EFP and you'll be OK). You can easily do the Rebby and Janam note quests to get your faction up with the merchants, and if youre really psychotic like I am, you can bribe Fabian in the Grub n' Grog tavern in EFP and get faction with the bards and paladins in NFP -- much easier than trying to do the Tumpy Tonics for Groflah quest, but expect to blow 300-400 pp on it... All to be able to bank. And that still doesn't help you out with the cleric guild in NFP -- but it doesn't kill your Dismal Rage faction, either. Myself, I could care less about Dismal Rage. If I need spells or a trainer, there's good old Neriak or PoK, or even Shadowhaven. The Dismal Rage are a bunch of wannabes who must be beaten senseless at all costs -- which is how I wound up a member of the Knights of Truth, complete with my Longsword of Marr I can't use and my Testimony I was *supposed* to get by killing Sir Lindeal, NOT by turning in the tokens of generosity, bravery, and truth... I'm a really horrible SK.
Regardless, if you set aside a couple of hours, you can have your merchant faction decent enough for Freeport to be a worthwhile stop. Also, there is always Toxdil, the DE merchant in the hidden tunnel to the right of the main gate in WFP (facing outside of town). He cons warmly to all DEs, so he makes an excellent selling point for all those rat tails from lv 1 to 3.
If you want your faction a little quicker, Shadowhaven is a good way to go, but nothing beats PoK, Shar Vahl, or the Bazaar -- no faction work needed.

The Grobb, now called Gukta has been taken over by the frogs and we are kos there. Oggok which lies in the ferrott is run by Ogers. We're safe there. We aren't kos in freeport but they are some things in freeport that will kill us if we run to close to them. The monk guild and the caster guild. Theres a dwarf and a highelf in the inn that are kos to us and the north freeport guards start out kos to us unless we don't raise faction with them. We are safe from guards in east commons, east freeport and west freeport. They are on the freeport milita and considered "evil" to others. I wouldn't suggest going to Qeynos untill you kill a few gnolls. Also watch out for druids in ec and wc. In east commons there are two druids who stand on a hill and will try and kill us evil races if we wander to close to them. The moon will most likely be your safest place to hunt. We're not kos in Shadowhaven or Shar val. You should hunt in pauladal caverns. Everyone goes there. Hope this helps.

Can be worth it though... I just had a spell researched for the price of Quill and Parchment that would have cost me 50K in the Bazaar... hehe /rude @ spell-farmers.

It's called an Epic Quest because, just like Epic Poems, it's really long, dull, and hard to get through without considering suicide at least twice.

There's a ton of sites on the net that give a precise walk-through, but here's the super-basic steps:

Go camp Lord Begurgle in Lake Rathetear and take his crown.
Give crown to Schmendrick Lavawalker standing on hill, watch him get his butt kicked by a girl. Watch fire spirit fly up.
Kick its butt before the girl does, and dont let her kick your butt either.
Take other crown from fire spirit and give it to the girl.

Go to Sol A and camp Lord Gimblebrox for his Signet ring. Take all the stuff you've gathered so far and head over to Timm Deep and turn it in at the inn there.

Go get the Bloodsoaked Plasmatic Priest's robe from the Temple of Sol Ro.
Turn that in in Timm Deep again.

Go kill Ixiblat Fer in Burning Woods and get his scepter.

Go kil Overking Bathezid in Chardok and take his singed scroll.

Go kill a lot of things in Skyfire Mountians for a very long time until you gather 4 Pearlescent Fragments.

They seem to drop about once every 4th Thursday if the moon is in Capricorn, the Sun is in Scorpio and Alpha Centauri is in ascendancy.

Go turn the sceptre and scroll in in Timm Deep.

Go talk to Zordakilicus Ragefire in SolB.

Go talk to Warder Celia in Skyfire. Get box, insert Fragments, push button.

Spawn Zordakilicus Ragefire, human version.
Kill Zordakilicus Ragefire, human version.
Spawn Zordakilicus Ragefire, dragon version.
Kill Zordakilicus Ragefire, dragon version.
Don't wipe.
Take heart.

Combine in box with pearl.

Take to Timm Deep and combine with all the other crap you've earned from this so far.

Turn-in/combine as appropriate.

Get Water Sprinkler of Nem Ankh.

Failing a few of these stages at crucial moments requires you to start the quest over from the very beginning.

With all the half elves wandering freeport and Qeynos, I think we know why they're tolerated :)

All stats are, eventually "fixable" by way of items and AA... go buy a Hero Bracer and a Thick Banded Belt... should do you just fine in the low levels, and they're dirt cheap these days.

I have never heard of there being a pentalty for having TO low of str. I have a wood elf warrior and just let me say she was a *****!!!! But I hit just as hard as every one else did (at lower lvls but then again at higher ones seems like every one else got better weapons than I had) so I would say no penalty for low str. Either way getting eq that will add 5 str to your stats thats called cheap!!

When I pass you on the street please.... don't be scared Smiley: yikes

Paludal Caverns is a popular choice -- I took my DE necro in there (I don't like typing the whole thing out :-P ) at about 7 and he's still in there at 17. There's just always something to kill -- but make sure you don't go in through Shadowhaven. Have someone show you the way through Shadeweaver's Thicket into PC. The mobs there range from lv 6 to 17 or so. At 10 I recommend Sensate Reishi Juveniles.

I was running through Grater faydark and i had accedently attacked a nexus at the wizzy spires. Needless to say that i was killed Instantly. I was extreamly mad because i lost my exp. Through my hatered i studied the creature and i devised the most extravagant scheme ever. I was wondering if my fellow Citizens of norrath would aid me. Darkies and Lighties come together in a mass horde to take one down. "What's in it for me" a person might ask. Well i think that not only the feeling you get from uniting with all of the inhabitants of norrath to squash a common evil but a great possibilty of an uber pay off and Extream exp or maybe nothing just a cold hard defeat.I am not really sure if they drop anything or if they even give exp. They are most likely the least killed Npc in the game. I have heard of one or two being killed but to my knowlage no loot has ever been identified. There are only a couple of reasons why i have not been able to find the loot items either 1. The uber guild who took one down came up with an awsome item that they dont want to get nerfed because of 1000000 crying lowbies saying its too powerfull so they did not add it to new item lists 2. None of them have ever been killed 3. Normal Loot for lvl of mob 4. No loot :( Now i am not really sure yet of the master plan but i am thinking along the lines of a massive head on attack group attack at random with no aperant stratagey.A person could even make a mule char and lvl to 5 or 6 toe just for this battle.Toe to Toe with the Unchecked Evil of the world. Or i have got a more methodical aproach. Either way i could be just stupid or really tired but that is my idea and i am willing to set up shop on any server. e-mail me at massive_nexus_strike@YHAOO.COM if you have any ideas, you want to join (( lvl is of no importance 1-65 doesnt matter Class either warriors clerics shaman monks i am in need of warm bodies :) )) or you just want to flame about how stupid i am either way i will welcome your emails and i will try my very best to email you back .No matter what it says. I'm a level 50 DE cleric, for leveling you should start off levels...
1-5 at the newbie log in nektulos
6-8 at the 4 skeleton monolith near EC
9-11 in EC hunting roamers or orcs
12-14 in NRO killing dervs
15-20 in oasis doing whatever
21-29 in Lake Of Ill Omen fighting sarnaks
30-39 in The Overthere (or in solesk B)
40-46 in The Dreadlands by karnor's
47+ go wherever... im not too sure, ive been in karnors for a while goin to sebilis soon... cool thing about karnor's castle is we aren't KoS in front as long as you stick to the back for fighting you wont lose faction, drops are pretty good too, some of the common things they drop sell for like 400pp to vendors.

Agree in almost everything but LOIO place. DONT touch Lake of Ill Omen pease, exp sux and you can go to Paludals at lvl 18 (not 20, even being 17) till yo get lvl 25 or 26, then go to High Keep (going from WC to Kithikor - High pass hold - HK) exp really rocks in both places. When you hit lvl 30 or 31 (32 if you want) go to OT. It kinda sux too but there is not any other place better than this one. You can be weeks hunting at LOIO and just days being at Paludals and HK, there is a big difference.

I've leveled in OT with all of my Dark characters. I found a spot this weekend that I really enjoyed, got great xp, with little worry of dying. I have a 31 Wiz, and went there with a 30 SK to Echo Caverns and fought the needlites. Loot not that exciting except when the Queen pops. She pop'd 3 times in a little over an hour or so. Between killing the Needlite room, we would kill the boglins. Easy xp, and you get the dungeon bonus, and not as boring as SF Ramp.

High hold keep is also a great exp place to go to between lvls 20-29 and if you don't get bored, you can stay there fighting goblins untill lvl 40. I breezed through the hell levels in High Hold. SolA (soulseek eye) also another great zone, and the fire gobbies can drop decent loot. Many people seem to forget the great dungeons in antonica that gave great exp beacuse they are all hooked on PC in Luclin. I also fought in the overthere between lvls 29-45. Then went to SolB.(nagafen's Lair) untill about lvl 55, then hunted in various places. Charissis,(aka, howling stones) and the hole are great exp zones for those lvl 50+ but for those zones, you might need to bring your own group and specially a evacer. You'll also need a key for Charissis but you'll lose your kc faction and OT outpost faction if you hunt there. Hope this helps :)

Heh, I have a slightly different progression... This works nicely for SKs and warrs, possibly necros.
Lv 1-3: West Freeport "kiddie pool" -- rats at 1-2, everything else from 2-3. If you can make it to PoK along the way, beg a HoS from a kindly shammy if it's an option.
Lv 4-6: Bears in EC. You can pretty much stomp a black bear at lv 5 anyway, but throw on the buffs and they don't stand a chance. The great thing about Harnessing of Spirit is that the DEX buff portion helps you raise your melee skills, as opposed to conventional "porcupine" power-levelling, where you don't do jack other than stand there and drool on yourself while things die.
Lv 6-17: Shadeweaver's Thicket side of Paludal Caverns. Start with Sensate Reishi sprouts and just keep working your way up. Grab a partner if you can find one -- either that or a LOT of bandages. Avoid the fiends, and don't try to cross over to the Shadowhaven side from here unless you can invis yourself.
Lv 18-24: Hollowshade Moor side of Paludal Caverns. I hate bandit camps with a passion -- too many noobs, not enough attention span, about 8 out of 10 times. And that's just the camp cleric. If you want to experience unabashed humility, by all means, take the Shadowhaven entrance and join C1 or C2, and time how long it takes before you get killed either in a group or waiting in line at the entrance to get in a group. All sorts of shenanigans go on in here -- trains of all shapes and sizes. Beware. So... Hollowshade side. Shiknars and Ancient Sensate Reishis are great xp. You can even kill Reishicyben if you happen to run across him, and he drops some cool newbie loot.

After 24, I'm pretty much lost. My main is only 26, and most of that came from a combination of Sol A, OT, LOIO (sucks!!!), East Karana, Warslik's Woods, and Netherbian Lair. WW was a power trip for me -- the first giants I ever got to kick the crap out of were there. Regardless, I plan on doing HHK to mid-30's and then OT. Guards in NL also work, since that zone has the same xp bonus as PC... But bring friends. Heh. And look out for Netherbian Drones if you're not the fear-kiting type. They hurt. A lot. Mild undercon for their damage output.

Well, that's my 2 cp. Hope this helps someone out there... Heh. Happy hunting!

You might try the Treants (with a group) in SK and EK. They can be tough, but they've got a good amount of coin drop and, well, you're evil anyway, so who cares what druids think of you?

Also, as you approach the 30s, and into the low 30s, the Druid Ring in WC is a good place to sit and pull "a druid"s. The loot isnt exceptional, but the XP is nice, its a usually open camp and, best of all, you're serving the Powers of Darkness by removing a few of these tree-huggers from the populace.

i realy liked fighting in FoB and kurns tower between lvls 11 and 20 i felt the exp and the dropps (iksar beserker club) was worth risking the walk there.

Try hunting in Oasis untill you get to lvl 20. Or try for a derv group in Nro. As a Rogue you'll probably want to try and get groups as much as possible so you can work up that backstab. Hope this helps :)

Sooo... being a DE necro and all, I want to hunt in Kurn's Tower in a couple of lvls and collect loads of bone chips. Only problem is, I don't wanna have to run all the way back to the OT docks to bank. I know I'm KOS to the Iksar guards, and they're so much all over the place in the city that it's impossible to avoid them, so when I was actually in Cabilis I didn't dare drop invis long enough to con any other factions. Is it possible for me to get my faction up with the guards before lvl 15 or so, and if so, is it worth it?

Thanks,

If your only goal is to collect bone chips and then easily bank it, I would suggest you visit Paineel instead, as the "yard" there has many wandering skeletons and I am sure the weak Erudites would let you visit their bank with a minimum of effort (just kill a lot of Kobolds). We Iksar, on the other hand, are filled with different factions, many opposing, and though it is possible for softskins to raise faction with the city enough to walk in relative safety, it is an extremely long and painful process, and one you might not wish to pursue.

As far as clothing/armor goes? They can wear either medium (normal) or small sized armor.

newbie dark elfs should know where to go, so here....
dont go near noobie log if you are a necro under level 5 :)
dont go near that lavastorm mountains zone on the eastest side...there are too many undeads that will eat you alive :P
there are ROCK guardians somewhere near the lavastorm eastest way, but they are not too common to find easily :)
Dont go near the wizzie spires too far in because you will get rooted by the chanter mobs and nuked to death :(
you should be able to level 15 with those mobs near the wizzie spires but not solo if you are a bad solo class :P lol
you should not really have any trouble there under ten :)
but you prolly know you die under ten you stil have all your equipment on :P :P :P
hopefully you will get this, lol
bye bye all!!!

Some more tips if you want to improve your faction with certain cities.

1. Go to East and West commons after level 7 or so and kill AS MANY ORCS AS POSSIBLE, and you will be able to go into Freeport.

2. Around level 16 or 17 go to High Pass and kill AS MANY ORCS AS POSSIBLE, and you will be able to go into High Keep.

3. You can travel to Kunark and the Lake of Ill Omen and kill Sarnaks and the Explorers if you want to improve faction with Cabilis, though its not a very happening town.

WARNING: Even though your faction is good with SOME of the citizens of these towns, doesn't necassarily mean that its good with EVERYONE in these towns. Con every NPC you see. I've been killed in all 3 cities listed above even though 90% of the city was dubious to me. THere is always that one NPC that still don't like you, no matter how many freaking Orcs you kill. :)

Or one can embrace that which is ours and that is the philosophy of hate. I got to a point that I said forget trying to please the lesser races even if it means having to make a journey to bank or sell. You can often find others who will do these things for you after all you simply need to view them as a means to an end. Don't be prejudice just hate everyone equally.
Dark Elf faction with Norrath

The faction being a dark elf can be changed but only if you want to be Dubious/KOS to your home town :) you just go to CB and kill the orcs, or D`vinn and the emporor for the good faction hits, then when you want to get back into your home land you have to kill the wood elf slaves...WOOD elf slaves, not elven high elf ones. That will ***** up faction with other things being a DE :) believe me, i have 31 rouge DE and 17 mage DE :P

[Purple] Bah!!!Smiley: bah to much work. Look go out kill and have fun. faction, bah if you worry about factions you will never get anywhere as far as home factions is concerned. if by chance you mess it up it can be repaired. just know this, Dark elfs are evil! Bad to the bone! so, conduct yourself that way. when you are alone soloing.
But; when you group and need allies, make allies for time being. dark elf are the evil incarnate!!and, even though you can raise your factions. you will never really be trusted anywhere except among other evil races. and even those races you don't trust too much because, given a cause they will try and slay you to.So; go forth kick butt and have funSmiley: boozing

DE Warrior Initiation

I have tried twice to beat the coward on Yelek's second quest. I tried at 4th level, then again at 5th level. Both times I have gotten the crap beat out of me and had to start over completely because I had to turn in my no drop short sword. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what level I should get to before I try this again? Any tips on how to beat this guy. I know this may be a no-brainer, but I just can't seem to see it. Frustrated.

I have a lvl 11 Dark Elf warrior, and I had a problem with that quest too. What I did (after I started again lol) was I was fighting with 1h slashing and thats what your weapon that you hand over is. So buy a rusted sword or something, and just use it after you give the other guy your start weapon for the quest. Also lvl kick up a bit before the fight. It will really help. And you can have help from other players as far as I know. Even if you don't do the quest it's not that much of a loss. All you get is a crappy two handed sword that you can't sell or drop. But just make sure you get the kill, Good Luck!

Quests for a de sk
# Oct 08 2002 at 3:38 PM Rating: Decent
hi just asking should i do the newbiee armor quests or not?
RE: Quests for a de sk
# Oct 08 2002 at 7:44 PM Rating: Good
do the quest its the best armor you can have until your character gets stronger. keep in mind your sk armor will buff all attributes and increase HP as well as AC.SK armor only really works when you have all pieces in place. Bronze Armor has better AC, but no str, sta, dex, agi, int,wis and hp buffs the SK armor do and you will find it useful for quite a few lvl, before you think about improving on it. keep in mind bronze armor is heavy which means by wearing it you are slowed in you running and agi, dex,and sta. these stats are important during a fight.the [Purple]lighter you are the quicker you are. higher sta means staying power for the the fight. str plays a roll in damage per hit. so with all of this, ask yourself should you do the Quest and benefit from it? or should you use some armor that is probably to heavy for your character at the monment like bronze. and lose out on all the benifits the SK armor can give. Too me it was simple go for the SK armor. by the way i had that armor all the way up to lvl 50 before i changed it for better stuff that gave better ac as well attributes buffsSmiley: smile
