The Dark Elf

race logoThe Dark Elf starts off in the City of Neriak and generally hunts in Nektulos Forest during his or her formative years. Dark Elves are an evil race, and are killed on site in most places in Norrath. What is the best strategy for playing a Dark Elf? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? Is there a way to develop enough faction to be accepted in the good cities? What are the best quests in Neriak for the beginning Dark Elf? Where are the best shops in Neriak? How should you role play your dark elf?

Post your strategies on how to best play a Dark Elf, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

Being a dark elf is not an easy task, you are hated almost everywhere from the time you are born, if you do want to go into other cities then you have to work on factions and in turn run the risk of being hated in your own town.So what is a drow to do? Well become well learned on your hometown and the nearest zones, you almost never need to leave with the exception of quests. Kunark is a good place for dark elves, more so than the other races except of course the iskar, in overthere the outpost is ran by mostly dark elves and there are a lot of really good places to hunt. I think humans more than the other races hate us blue skins, leave there cities be unless you really want or need to work on factions.

BAH!

I have lived many incarnations as a DE... Cleric, Wizard, Enchanter, and Warrior. Each has its strengths and weaknesses, mostly weaknesses - physical strength.

The Warrior is a lot of fun to play because, with a little bit of armor, mobs cant touch you! My warrior, untwinked, can take out white cons all the time, yellow cons most of the time, and red, well... run! With dodge and parry, heck, mobs are left wondering where the heck you went... til you bash them senseless. LOL Though, not physically strong, he does a lot of damage with fast weapons, duel weild, and double attacks... add that up... that's as much as 9 or 10 attacks to a mobs 1 or 2 and throw in a missed attack due to being stunned from a bash! This warrior can solo as a 'light' tank and can really frustrate mobs when he is pair with another warrior in a group. Taunt, Kick, Hide, Archery are all quickly learned due to the high INT that DE's have. If not yer main character, I recommend having a DE Warrior as a 'break' Chrarcter!

Clerics are fun but tedious in groups and usually the other members of a group get restless and, well, that is never good. You almost feel obligated to bail them out, even at the risk of losing your own life. I recommend letting them die though... either they learn or they leave, but of which are fine. Clerics heal, xas, but they are casters and warriors too. They can blast away with excellent spells and go toe-to-toe bashin style.

Wizards are dificult and are dependent on a group most of the time. Most other players don't understnad what the role of a wizard is, so I will lay it out for you: Wizards kill. That's it! Sure they have a few other neat spells, BAH!... Wizards kill! The rest of the group has one objective, keep the wizard alive, whether they like it or not... All things equal, wizards do more damage BY FAR, then any other class (NO FRIGGIN CONTEST SO SHUT THE HELL UP ALL OF YOU WOULD BE CRITICS) Whew!

ATTENTION: WELCOME TO THE HARDEST CLASS IN THE GAME- DE ENCHANTER

Enchanters are THE hardest clas to play no matter what race you choose but being a DE makes it that much harder. They MUST assume the leadership role in any group because, again, other players don't understand how they work. Enchanters are the puppet masters, both to other group members and to mobs especially. They cripple enemies, and bolster allies. My enchanter can reduce a mob one FULL con level (I ain't talking dubious to indifferent either, YELLOW TO WHITE!) Same xp but a lot easier to kill... their abilities make them targets for mobs so surround your enchanter with good people and they may live to dee greatness.

i have a DE Necromancer on Erollisi Marr. DE Necromancers are the best class and race i think, they get some pretty good dots and they have a lot of spells that can drain hp from your enemy and give it to your self

along with that and a pet with a good weapon, you should be pretty safe

if you play on E Marr and need any help, i help you... i dont usually try to lvl up fast, i just help the little guys

For a Dark Elf... the best class.. where you can be good throughout the class at mostly every level is the Necromancer..

I myself.. prefer Shadowknights.. but as a Dark Elf Shadowknight.. they are a challenge.. due to our lack of physical strength..

The high natural intellegence of our race gives us an edge over others when taking up the Necromancy craft or any other spell casting..

Mages are good as well.. for partly the same reasons as the Necro..

THE PET..

the pet can keep you alive in the meek levels.. ^_^

Good Luck.. which ever you choose..

Good luck starting a Necromancer.. they are a little tough.. just like all casters are in the early stages because it will seem that even the weakest thing can kill you in one shot.. but remember your pet.. and its strengths.. and you should do fine.. ^_^

What server do you play on?? I am on Rodcet Nife and on Tribunal.. so if you are on those.. please send me a tell ^_^

you should put all you can into intelligence then put rest into agility. Charisma is polarized so if you raise it you are just making your fears more resisted... besides charms are nothing.

INT....~134
STA...~80
STR....~70
DEX.....~98
AGI...~108

This works well for me and I solo and group....Now these are not my base stats....but I do not have that good of gear.

I was able to go from kos to warmly with the guards with a dark elf sk. It's possible you just have to kill a whole lot of gnolls. Just kill any gnoll you see that's possible for you to defeat no matter how low their lvl is. Save up gnoll teeth to take to captain tilin when your faction is dubious or apprehensive. Turn them in four at a time then take the moonstones to Mcneal Jocub in the back of the fish's ale. You can sell the alcohol he gives you (1 bb stout for 1 moonstone) for 7sp per stout so its a good way to get both money and faction at the same time. To get your faction up with the bloodsabers corrupt guards and circle of unseen hands first retrive faren's (a fisherman by the dock where the boat comes from erudin in south qeynos)tacklebox. Its underwater just to the right of where faren is fishing (look for a bag of dropped loot) give him the tackle box and he'll give you hurrieta's bloody tunic (you must be apprehensive or better with faren to do this quest his faction is determined by your guards of qeynos faction)then run to the fireprides (in south qeynos to the left of the warrior's guild) and give the tunic to ton firepride who gives you a few silver and the tunic to take to the bloodsabers. Your faction with all the evil guilds of qeynos will go up. Throw away the tunic and do the quest again and again and soon you'll be able to get your faction up with the necro/sk guild in qeynos and will be able to get your skills up with the guildmasters. Also there are no orcs that bring your qeynos guard faction up and a better way to get your thieves faction up (if you actually want to) is to fight bandits in the karanas. The only problem with running around south qeynos is the wizard's guild will always be kos with you. Just stay away from any npcs with a blue robe and be extra careful and you should be fine.

RE: Prevent KOS in Neriak
# Jan 16 2001 at 8:43 PM Rating: Default
Another place to avoid is Runnyeye. They also lower Nariak Faction. A note, if you do kill something that lowers you faction go to the southwest corner of nekutos forest and kill the Halflings there, then turn in any halfling raider caps to either the clerics guild 1 at a time or warrior guild 4 at a time for a major faction plus-up. both killing them and turning in the hats gives positive faction.
The Overthere is its own faction which is not based off nariak faction so be careful of faction in Kunark for that but it will not mess with your home faction.

kizdean gix and dragoon zytil(sp?) in West Commonlands(WC) will bring down neriak faction if killed. CrushBone as was already stated. Dorn in N Ro as was already stated. Any dark elf npc just about will bring bad faction with some part of neriak.

as a rule, (not always, but 99% accurate) don't kill a member of a race(group as is the case with bandits) you want to be friends with
RE: Prevent KOS in Neriak

The primary one that I know that will reduce your standing with our home, Neriak, is going over to the continent of Faydewer and attacking the Crushbone Orcs with whom we have an alligence with.. Ambassador D'Vinn is over there as a Liason between Crushbone and Neriak and you do not want to ruin our relations with them by attacking those orcs..

Also.. do not attack the stone or iron golems that patrol Nektulos Forest because, they, like our own guards, will lower your faction standing with Neriak..

Thats about all that I know of.. besides Dorn B'Dynn in North Ro with the Dervs.. he can lower your faction as well

Good luck...

The FIrst person who replied to this said to avoid RUNNEYEYE not Crushbone...never been to runnyeye myself, BUT i HAVE been to crushbone.
CB Orcs carry Indigo Brotherhood Faction, NOT neriak: there is an NPC IN neriak , he stands near Pungla towards the front of the city.
i have killed Enough Crushbone orcs to be Dubious (not killed-on sight) in Kelethin and Felwaithe.
I even took a faction hit off Dorn B'dynn in North Ro: I healed someone who was about to die by him,,,I am still Dubious with the ONE indigo guy in neriak, and guards and eveeryone else in neriak is still Amiable.
HOWEVER i went and took the boat from ogre island and tried to jump off near the docks, what killed me? not the red-con undead i saw on the docks, but some DE dragoon yelling about how I am hated by the Indigo Brotherhod! ouch! you can just imagine the corpse run nightmare that was. i Think you can regain that faction by killing the slaves in Crushbone....plus i may do this and collect the elven blood i need to start my cultural teir d'al smithing hehehe.

Faction with dwarves

I am a DE Necro and want to get faction with the dwarves. Yes, yes, they are smelly little runts, but it would be very handy to be able to buy and sell in Kaladmin.

Currently, I am KOS to the guards in the Butcherblock Mountains. Does anyone know what faction they belong to? I have been killing goblin after goblin in the mountains to get faction with the stormguard and Guardians of the Vale (who ever they are). Once in Kaladmin, I intend to do the bone chip quest for faction with the Paladins and clerics (who said you can't buy love?).

Thank you in advance for your words of wisdom. May the darkness comfort you.

Between your race and your religion, I'd say you're pretty much stuck KOS with the dwarves :(

But eventually, (when you get to a high enough lvl) you might find that this low faction can work to your advantage. You can hunt the dwarves without fear of wreaking your faction, because you're already KOS! :)

Thats just my recommendation, but I wish you the best of luck in whatever you decide to do.

<snickering laughter from the shadows>

Obvisiously this last post was written by a non-creative Dark Elf. I am a Dark Elf ROGUE (one of the MOST KOS classes in the game) and I can walk thru Dwarven, WoodElf, HighElf, DarkElf, Human Cities without Fear of being attacked(and all those BEFORE I hit 20th Level). I am currently working on Barbarian, Halfling, Erudite, and Iskar Factions (if I really need anything from a gnome city I MIGHT try to remove KOS from them as Well). Here's is a HINT to remove KOS from DWarves, HighElves, and WoodElves you must fisrt become KOS back home(Kinda SUX) but in the long run it is worth it (but stay away from Rogue Guild of the Wood Elf). To remove your KOS back home simply find as many Halflings as you can and slay them...

To achieve the title of "Spy" you must remove your KOS from all Cities(or at least in my opinion). It has been real useful in South Karana when that silly Sentry walks by you and Slays all your Evil buddies or the after being Teleported by a Druid into a Druid Circle you can sit and heal while the rest of your Half Dead Evil team Mates run in fear as the Druids chase them down Root them and DOT the hell out of them. OK so Gnolls and Orcs are KOS now .... like you care.

Teach the Deathfist orcs the Hate Innoruuk demands. Kill any orc you see. When you have earned the 5th lvl of Mastery, go to E. Commonlands and kill Deathfist orcs. That will increase your faction in Freeport. But hanging out with human friends?! Humans are to be used to attain your personal aims and to advance the will of the Father, but friends? I think not!

grobb - apprehensive, some indiff.

Well, as an Agnostic, you are going to be dubious with all of the guards in FP. That includes the Knights of Truth in North Freeport. I have an agnostic enchanter who can use the bank in Freeport. To maximize your chances with folks in the Freeport area, I'd kill orcs. Lot's and lot's of them. Turn in the belts to increase factions even more. There are also other quests that you can do that don't require a lot of killing to raise factions.
RE: DE Necro in town?

I agree. I play a DE Enchantress. I'm amiable with the guards in Freeport and apprehensive with all merchants except for elves. This has come after killing MANY, MANY orcs. It really suprises people when they see me running around, un-illusioned.

However, if you play a worshipper of an Evil god, you will still be KOS to the paladins and certain clerics. Make sure you 'con' people in the area before moving through.

You'll have to look around, but if any one is working on smithing they will most likely be selling tool boxes to the merchants. These make better containers than sewing kits as they are much cheaper, costing only a few gold and are lighter, wt is only 0.4, still an 8 slot and will hold large items. I was there from lvl 12 to 15, and being a neutral DE Magician was able to sell to the lady at the Druid Ring, but not to the gipsies

Oasis Crowded? Go Overthere!
# Sep 12 2000 at 1:53 PM Rating: Good
19 posts
At level 19 I decided that I'd had enough of the Oasis. On my server, Tallon Zek, it's a really crowded area of mostly level 10-20's. Plus the Oasis is a favorite PvP raiding area, since light players level 20-30 know they can 'hunt' darkies there and not get much in the way of opposition ( most of the 20+ darkies have moved on to better areas ). I finally packed my bags and headed for The Overthere.

I caught the barge at the dock in Oasis. This took me to Timorous Deep. I disembarked when the barge stopped and turned about 45 degrees to the right and walked straight. This brought me to a camp of Ogres where there was a dock. I noticed a fellow DE SK pounding on one of the ogres. I asked him about faction concerns and he assured me there was no faction loss in Oggok*. To be on the safe side, I declined to join in, and I fished until the big boat came.

I got on the boat and the other SK told me to stand in the middle of the boat, just behind the mast. He told me not to sit until the boat was well underway ( island not visible ) and to stay behind the mast. Apparently there's a bug that bumps you off the boat. I didn't check to see if he was right, I just did as I was advised.

We eventually disembarked at a pier in The Overthere. Assuming you don't attack anything, and you're an evil race, nothing there will bother you, but everyone con'ed apprehensive to me. I found the bank and the merchants. It's all pretty self-contained. I pretty readily got a bind at the bank.

I then headed out the East exit from the outpost, facing towards Warslick Woods. This is an important distinction - when under level 25 don't go messing around with the area just to the North.

I conjured up a pet and found I could pull blue con's and reverse kite them ( see Fear Kiting, Beginners Guide thread on the SK board ). I don't have great gear, and the mobs are a little more magic resistant than croc's in Oasis, so it was slow going at first. Be aware that nothing is KOS on you except the sarnaks. You'll start r-kiting a tiger, and it takes half your health and you think you're doing ok, but then a flunkie jumps you and you're at half health with no mana left. Oops. I stayed close to the gate and just got familiar with the local game.

After about 1/2 a level I found a group and was brought to the "mud hole". We got there by exiting the outpost, turning 45 degrees left, and going to the beach. We then stayed on the beach, continuing straight/west until we saw hills stretching out to the south. We then turned right/north and found the mud hole. There I noticed there were other groups gathered as well. While this area was slightly more dangerous for sarnack walk-by's, the game spawn was much more frequent.

Good points: I'm now up to 21 and so far, so good. There's been plenty of game, lots of peace and quiet, and no kill stealing. The only PvP disruptions I've noticed are level 30+'s who tangle with the occasional gnome or some such.

Bad points: Groups below level 25 can be hard to find sometimes. Be prepared to solo about half of the time. There's no place to train there. Getting new spells and skills inevitably means going home to Neriak. Stuff is expensive there! Once I got level 20 I needed to go back to Neriak to train in Double Attack. While I was there I bought many stacks of food, water, and bandages and put them in backpacks in the bank. I tried getting bones from newbies but had little luck. I have heard, however, that in Kunark's Field of Bone there are plenty of Iskar newbies with tons of bones to sell since skeletons are all over the place.

* - Just last night I ran into a DE necromancer at the bank who asked if I could buy her food and water from the local merchants. She said they would not sell to her. I asked why and she said, "Because I killed too many ogres in Timorous Deep." Hunter beware.

Hope this information proves useful. Please add to anything I missed!

Tyldak, have you checked with any of the NPCs at the Outpost to see if there are any quests to raise factions with them?

The only one I've heard about is the war braids quest. Since I'm new to the region and low level (compared to most folks in OT), I haven't been terribly brave about trying to find / do quests.

I've done some research on some of these quest, and discovered that you have to be a 30+ in order to complete. The Sarnak warbeads are found on Sarnak Berzerkers, wich are incidentaly the highest level Sarnaks in the zone. The other quest starst out on the expensive side as you give 2 cheap gem stones and 1 expesive one (25pp) to the Dark Elf magician/wizard in the north eastern most building on The Overthere. Wich in return he will give you 3 jars in wich you are supposed to trap the essence of 3 NPC's.

I've noticed there's a gap in the area between about levels 23-24 and 30+. As I approach 23 (not quite there yet) it's getting harder and harder to find blue con's in OT - although I'd wager about 1/3 of the spawns I run into still are. I guess I just got spoiled from being there at 19 and having everything blue / even / yellow. A couple of times I was invited to Warslick's Woods, the next zone over, to hunt forest giants. I've been distracted with other non-hunting activities, but hopefully I'll have another mini-guide to write soon, either about Warslick's, or another area best suited for levels 23-28.

Aegis of Life: can get with a dark elf cleric

My Dark Elf cleric who has been spending most of her time in lake of ill omen (since level 14, 21 now great zone) came back recently and carefully went to qeynos to see what chance she had of doing the aegis of life. After doing some vendor buy outs (buy cheap stackable junk destroy in sewing kit sell one bone chip if bone chip appears in now emptied slot vendor has none, if bone chip not appear vendor has bone chips.. see what appears in the slot you emptied on vendor by refreshing) she had about 350 bone chips.

She carefully checked the factions and found she was glower to nearly everyone. At glower she could give bone chips to lashun AND do the blessed oil quest. A while later she was apprehensive. I found that at this I could also turn in some bandit sashes I'd got on the way. Strangely enough she is kill on sight with only one faction, the casters guild. This really only effects her with one wandering caster in south qeynos that she has to look out for going to the bank or turning in sashes.

What this means is that she can eventually get the aegis of life, so this made me happy ; ) I have about 550 bone chips saved up in the bank now and am waiting until she hits level 24 in kunark to come back and do more.

Note: She left neriak right away almost and got bound in east freep, trained there, did the quests in the east freep sewer which only lower knights of truth and only went back to neriak to buy her spells. In other words, she did NONE of the quests in neriak since many lower Priests of Life faction.

Since clerics don't get invis I would not reccomend killing the putrid skills in south k as another way to raise priests of life since it lowers corrupt guards (glower for her now) which would eventually make her Kos I think.

try this..

to do the aegis quest, begin the symbols of innoruuk quest.

on the second leg of the journey i believe, you must kill a halfling in nektulos and retrieve his head. the head is skinned and returned.. giving you a skinned head with one charge of halfling illusion..

Ah yeah, ive been playing with that head after getting innitiate neck thing. I keep going back and killing whoopall for a new mask ; )

However, Ive never needed it in qeynos since I started out glower. Tonight i had about 600 more bone chips that I bought out from vendors and did a better quest than the lashun novashire one. I did the 6 bonechips in a box combine, at the pally guild. The pallys were glower and I had got the priests to apprhen when i started tonight. When i was done, the pallys were amiable (fairly high amiable I'd say) and the priests up to kindly ; ).

Its fun being a dark elf cleric and kindly with those priests. Also tonight i did the jenam and rebby quests in freeport where I was glower with all the vendors. In a couple hours I was amiable.

So now im well on my way to aegis of life faction in qeynos and im smithing in freeport east with amiable vendors. Pretty productive night ; )
Smithing is better on banded in freep than about anywhere, and the sheets are sold for it while in neriak you have to make your own so I said no to that.
