OK, I am a master smith and ALL master smiths working fine plate need tons of leather paddings. To get leather paddings you need: LQ pelt and silk thread. MQ pelts can be converted to LQ with a skinning knife, and they are actually more valuable as LQ because of the padding thing. Silk thread comes from spiderling silk.

My advice, you can sell the pelts easily for 20pp/stack and spiderling (not spider) silk for 10pp/stack. Or you can get basic tailoring skill and make leather paddings starting (they go trivial at skill 31). On Tholuxe Paells you can get 50pp/stack for leather paddings, just go to EC and shout for master smiths.

Barbarian SHamans rock and they only have two things going against them. One, in the kelethin, kaladim, Ak'anon, and rivervale they have lots of trouble getting into buildings unless they have shrink. Also, with the exception of the store ib qyenos, they have to run quite a ways to get spells if they want to travel out of halas, and they cant go to any of the other shaman races. Other than that, they rock.

Hello all. Lvl 14 warrior barb got ported to Freeport. Im wondering what kind of armor I should be trying to buy. I have about 160 pp saved up. Im thinking bronze or fs when available but not really sure. Also Im wondering what I should hunt. Ive got some good stuff bronze bp bracers girdle helm splitpaw gloves fine plate arms banded cloak banded gorget. All my other stuff is leather. Im on ayonae ro server. Send a tell plz
RE: Warrior
# Sep 18 2001 at 2:44 AM Rating: Decent
You should get some bronze to get you started. Bronze is heavy, but with the good str of a barbarian, it should be ok. Go for medium, as it is lighter than large.

Head to SolB, preferbly during peak times, and try to ask nicely if anyone can sell you some medium bronze. There is plenty dropping there, and most people find it too heavy to bother even selling to merchants. Offer 1 pp per ac, and everyone will be happy.

FS is still expensive. 160 pp will get you very little. You may want to invest in neck and/or visor, they should cost you 50-70 pp and last you a long time.

You should probably invest your money on a weapon. Axe of the iron back can be gotten for 50 pp, if you can just find someone who has one in bank. Try hanging out in NFP to buy one.

Most of this is general info, and not barbarian specific, but well you asked.
RE: Warrior
# Sep 18 2001 at 2:13 PM Rating: Decent
I wouldn't look for those FS pieces. There are necks and masks with stats more attuned to warriors then that small amount of AC.
And I've seen crafted bracers go for 150pp/pair so you might be able to get those.

PLEASE, if you have any input on this topic POST IT! I want to here everyone's thoughts. It's helpfull that you backup your opinions with some details like what they are/aren't good at ect. Donka shan and PEACE!
RE: ANSWER IF YOU HAVE SOME KINDA EXPERIENCE IN THIS TOPIC!
# Sep 13 2001 at 8:34 AM Rating: Excellent
The short answer is: Yes, barbarians make good rogues.

It all depends on what you consider a good rogue. Does it only matter how good they will be at level 60? or does availability of equipment matter throughout their career. Does faction matter? Do starting stats matter?

For starts they are probably one of the best, most rogues tend to see str ast the most important stat, and Barbarians have the highest of all rogue races. The also have the higest average physical stats, and can be balanced if you want (I know, I have 105/95/100/100).

For equipment there are a few items they cant use because of size. On the other hand Tribunal rogues are the only rogues who can get magical cultural ringmail class armor. The small race rogues have no cultural ringmail class armor at all. There are a few large-race only items out there, you might want, but nothing spektacular.

The get to use throwing bounders with critical though, if you like throwing.

The only disadvantage I have found is the size can be a problem in dungeon, especially since you are dependant on being able to move around, to get behind the mobs. But there is always the masks to help you out.

I believe they in general have worse faction the most other races, but that is only a problem if you want to quest a lot, as you can always fool the merchants. With the change of newbie quests in halas, and the addition of rogue quests there, you should be ok for the start of your career (I know no one ever reading this will care, as they will zoom throught early levels anyway, most likely twinked).
Where to go?
# Aug 27 2001 at 9:04 AM Rating: Default
Okay fellow barbs,

I have been reading all the posts on the best places to hunt but thought I would ask again to see if opinons have changed.
Got a group of 3 that like to hunt togther. 18th barby shaman, 17th(almost 18th) Rouge (me),and a 15th warrior(almost to 16). We want to get to a zone that gives us good hunting/exp as a group, but offers us the chance to solo. We just tried the eastern Karana's and have determined that was a bad move. The shammy and I got our lunch handed to us several times by blue and green things. Plus, its along darn way to run to the bank.

We can stil get OK experience in Everfrost, but the game is called Everquest and its a big world out there. We want to travel around and see it!

The three of you could take Gnoll ledge in High Hold Pass.... It's decent exp and loot... about every 4 hours a name will pop and depending on which one, will drop the Polished Granite Tomahawk or a Cracked Darkwood Shield.... Decent enough items....

I for one, love my barbarian warrior. Natural cold resist, the ability to slam, ability to wear both medium and large armors and not being KoS everywhere in Norrath does that to me :)

Statwise barbarians make good warriors too, and being higher than most others will be of benefit to you on a crowded battlefield.

If you are into roleplaying, barbarians can be very fun too. Take an evening watching BraveHeart and the 13th Warrior, and you will have a good feel for barbarian-like cultures :)

I thought this was a barbarian board, but maybe it's for Solusek Ro, because I see a LOT of flames. :)

Barbarians are a great, great race as warriors and shamen. They aren't downright stupid, like ogres(Ogre shamen generally have as much wisdom as my wood elf druid, when he's extremly drunk, and the shaman bit is just a side to the huge strength of the ogres.), and have very high strength and stamina as warriors. I know your thinking "hey, but ogres and trolls have more!". As barbarians, try NOT BEING KOS EVERYWHERE ON NORRATH! I mean, if you wanted to start an Iksar shaman, what about the 500+ goblins/orcs/gnolls you'd have to kill to get from scowls to indifferent? Plus, except the vengefuls and bears, barbs have a good starting area. A barbarian warriors, level 3, no extra strength equipment, with a rusty scythe can deal 17 points of damage. Barbarians are my personal favorite "big" race.

nobody has to worry about anything in the canyon around lvl 7. The vengeful skellys are really easy at lvl 7 or 8 with my barb rog. i could kill them easy and without no twinking. Selling HQ bear pelts
# Sep 13 2001 at 6:20 AM Rating: Decent
You know we can get tons and tons of HQ bear pelts from the trains of polar bear cubs. Here in Everfrost/Veeshan you can sometimes get 40pp, though I have no idea why when they are walking past all the time. My best recommendation would be to take them to Qeynos, or even get them all the way to Freeport. They will fall all over their feet to buy them at 40, because tailors want them for 10 slot backpacks. I have seen them auctioned at FP for 100 pp. We have a bounty training right past us.

RE: Money and XP
# Aug 18 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Default
You don't really need to get all that much money right now. Heck, I rarely have much money at level 24. Head to blackburrow until 14 or 15, then you should try to go to Oasis of Marr and hunt caimans with a group. Around level 17, you have two really good choices: South Karana or Lake of Ill Omen. If you're playing your first character, I'd suggest South Karana (many Lake of Ill Omen people level up too fast to learn anything about their class and run away from trivial fights). If you're experienced, go to LOIO. I don't know much above that. I'm currently level 24 and in cazic thule. These are only suggestions, and there are plenty of other places to go and see. EverQuest is an adventure, make it your own.
RE: Money and XP
# Aug 15 2001 at 5:56 AM Rating: Default
At lvl 8 you can continue to hunt in Everfrost or move on to Blackburrow next door. If you are going to stay in Everfrost, I would suggest finding a group and hunting near Bandl -- or you could try going solo. Orc troopers, snow leopards, and polar bears are all in that lvl range.

As far as cash, I made most of my money from HQ bear pelts. Had four by the time I was lvl 5, which was probably luck -- haven't had any since then! Orcs will drop wristbands which you can turn in to Cindl at Mac's Kilts for some leather armor -- only gives tunic and leggings though, so you will sell them back to her if they are duplicates, but she will give you 1pp for leggings and 2pp for tunic. And keep killing the polar bear cubs -- never know when one will drop the HQ pelt, and skins can still be turned in to Cindl to receive patchwork which you can also sell for 1gp.

Hunting out by Bandl, you will notice that most poeple are going for the mammoth calves. That's because they drop the hides which can be turned in to Cappi the rogue on the second floor of the bank. For turning in four hides, you recieve a piece of black wolf armor -- which is Barbarian Rogue only. It is basically banded armor, but if you can get your hands on some hides, it is an easy way to get some nice lowbie gear that also looks good (same look as the Ravenscale armor). People who are into mammoth killing just for the xp will often give their hides away, and sometimes you can find them for sale in Halas (as well as Qeynos) for 1gp. Sometimes people will turn in the hides, but don't care much for the armor since most people can't use it -- each piece sells to the merchants for 4-5pp, but since not everyone is in this for the money, sometimes they will turn around and give it to someone you can use it, so keep your ears open for someone talking to Cappi while you are banking. I had a full set of black wolf armor by lvl 10 (bought some pieces for 1pp per AC, but got most through calf hide quest). Continued killing calves, and gave away several pieces of armor to bar rog lowbies (newbies would probably just sell it to merchants). Also, there are some high-lvl players who come loaded with ringmail and fine steel weapons from Permafrost who sometimes exhibit their generosity by giving some away or selling at low prices -- rarely see a FS weapon go for more than 5pp in Everfrost.

Blackburrow also has money and armor possibilities, especially after lvl 12 or 13 (when you get Dual Wield). Studded and spiked collars drop regularly from higher gnolls, and they are not so easy to sell, so I give those away to newbies who are fighting hard (I never give to beggars). Should also look for magical weapons so you can begin hunting wisps at lvl 13-14 -- that is where you can really make some money.

I am currently lvl 15, with about 150pp in the bank, which is alot compared to my other characters, and I have 20 greater lightstones from the wisps to turn in, so there is money to be made close by. Fight hard, with dignity and honor, and the gods of the Tribunal will smile on you as well.
RE: Money and XP
# Sep 01 2001 at 2:02 AM Rating: Default
Just though id bring this up since you didnt mention it. Those greater lightstones you have can be turned in to gypsy woman in NK she will give you a book. You can then she he that book back for 7 to 8 PP each. Not bad at all.

If there were a way to get HQ's more often, they wouldn't be worth as much. Keep your chin up and keep killin them stupid bears, but save me some!

I don't know what it is about everyone hating on barbarians 'cause they don't have infra or ultra vision! I mean, there's tons of items out there that can help with night vision. For example, the Foreman's Skull Cap I'm wearing gives about five times the light of a greater lightstone, plus it has 4 or 5 stats! Anyways, I think barbarians make the best rogues, shamans, and possibly warriors.

I don't think you should choose a race because of stats or the fact they have infra or ultravision. Race is all about personal preference. If you want to be a cute, good warrior, be a gnome. If you want to be an evil, ugly warrior, be an ogre or troll. If you want to be good, but strong, be a barbarian. Stats don't make much of a difference.

That has got to be the dumbest thing I've read in my whole life. Your saying that if I wanna be a rogue, just randomly select a race? Maybe take into consideration the looks? That is stupid. I like the way that dark elves look, I like the class rogue, hmm, dark elf rogues suck! I think that choosing a race and class needs to be thought out and matched to your preferances or else the game won't be as fun.

"I think that choosing a race and class needs to be thought out and matched to your preferances or else the game won't be as fun." ... which is exactly what the anonymous guy said. Pick a race and a class that suit your preferences and do not worry so much about the stats...

The game can be very fun even though you didn't create the statwise best possible character - trust me :)

All depends on the way you play the game, if you want to roleplay then looks and the like may be very important. If you are more interested in leveling as fast as you can then stats are more important. Interested in quests you may want to think about faction issues. Want a challange then you may want to pick the worst race/class combination. People play Everquest for many reasons, just because it isnt the reason you play doesnt make it dumb.

as an answer to your question, the best place to be bound is the ORC LIFT at Kelethin (loc +990/+220).
It's good for us Elves to be helped by barbarians warriors !
You will love this place :-)
