Halfling Rangers?
# May 04 2001 at 7:44 PM Rating: Decent
If it was possible to be a Halfling Ranger, I would be all over it.

Halflings are warriors and druids. Rangers would work wonders.

Halfling-life is based mostly around home, but adventurers do exist, so a halfling ranger would be an awesome RP'ing critter.

I was just thinking that the other day... pitiful roleplay but they have the perfect ranger stats. same wis as wood elves better agi and dex than wood and half elves and 3 less str than humans but agi is more important anyways.

If your class does not get the skill normally you may not allocate practice in it, in your case it doesnt allow it. these are race attributes..as a little fyi, only rouges can use hide and sneak together, anyone else can use one or the other but if you hide then try to sneak it will lose hiding, not to say its not useful, when your invisible, if your going by a crit that can see you while invis, you can use sneak to get by him, unless it fails.

So, as a halfling warrior will these sneak and hide skills ever go up?? Or are they static?? My main concern is whether or not I should spend a lot of time practicing them.

i was thinking about starting a little stump humper Rogue are they worth it because i really hate misty its just ugly and would get boring after a while and i just thought of this awesome idea what if halflings could be monks better yet what if ogres could be monks

How about an ogrebard? Sounds best as one word ;p ogrebard... ogrebard, a singing dancing slap happy ogre with a nice god, what a great idea!

The idea of halfling monks is not very good. We are fast and powerful but our attacks sort of fall short of the mark...However, I do approve of ogres being monks though not for the reasons you might assume. It makes killing them a great deal easier :).

Halflings tend to be very jovial and not necessarily "focused" on anything but fun, so I can't really picture a halfling monk being focused on the continually improving her/his self. I could see however an Ogre being a monk. The only problem with them is they're kkiinnddaa ssllooww lliikkee. Monks tend to be very fast in attacks and avoidance. In my completely biased favorably towards human monks because they kick butt like opinion, an Ogre tend to fit the strong, tank warrior type than the fast evasive monk.
Rogue strategy
# Apr 14 2001 at 4:53 PM Rating: Good
The halfling has to be the best rogue race in the game. Rogues need the high agility as they can't wear steel plate. Although as a halfling you are pretty much stuck between kithicor forest and clan runnyeye. It would be best to hunt in misty thicket, killing large rats to start with. Then move up to black wolves and klaknak drones. On about level 4 you may find some goblin workers which you can kill and you might get some warbeads to trade in for good exp. Do Blixkin Entopops quest at least once. I suggest level 6 or 7 is the best time to go past the wall. At this level you should stay close to the guards unless you are in a good group.
You also might want to work on tailoring by collecting ruined wolf pelts, and make your self some armour. Or just save up money and buy yourself some good leather (the loots pretty good in MT, I had enough for full leather by level 7). Tailoring was very useful to me though, because when you get up to about level 15, you can make metal bits (2 iron ore and 1 flask of water) and then make some studded leather.
Venom sacks are a good thing to collect (from giant wasps and spiders), they're worth about 1pp each.
Behind wall strategy: Level 6-8 giant rats/large bats/orc pawns. Level 9-11 Goblin Warriors/black bears/Roaming Orc Cents. Level 12-14 Young Kodiaks/Giant Spiders/Giant wasps/Orc cents in Orc camp. 15+ Not much in MT for this level, only things to hunt are Orc Legionnaire(rare)/Goblin Alchemist(rare)/Mooto.

Misty Thicket is a wonderful newbie zone; good up until about lvl 15 - then you don't really have a choice, you have to leave. Hunting piranhas in Rivervale is also a good strategy at lower lvls especially, since you can give the teeth to Fiddy Bobick for a decent amount of cash and some good faction adjustment.
You should be able to venture beyond the wall in MT about lvl 5, especially with a group; don't wander too far from the guards. I suggest the Runnyeye Warbeads quest with Sheriff Roglio (talk to him about it), and also the Deathfist Slashed Belts given to Deputy Budo in the tower at the wall (on your left if you're leaving Rivervale).
I must say, I've played lots of different chars on EQ, but halfling rogues are undoubtedly my hands-down favorites. I love tanking, and spells are just too confusing... I feel lost if I can't backstab and pickpocket! If you have any questions I'd be more than happy to help if I can; just send a tell! Don't forget to practice backstabbing and pickpocketing... orcs and goblins in MT are prime targets.

Halfing Warriors are Underestimated
# Apr 10 2001 at 9:22 AM Rating: Decent
Having experimented with a barbarian, ogre, human and troll warrior, I have finally discovered that halflings are my favorite of all the warrior classes that I have played. By adding a few points to dex, agi, str and sta, you get a hard hitting, but hard to hit, fighting machine. Anyone that judges halflings by there size should come to the Thicket and see whats in OUR neck of the woods.

i agree that halflings make one of the best-if not the best- warriors of all the races. after i got my mage high enough i started my halfling warrior twink.he has a full suit of crafted,a wavecrasher(9dmg-19dly +9 agi) duel weilded with a winters fury(13dm-23dly +6 str and 25 hps) and i am badass. besides the fact that the mobs have a hell of a time trying to hit me, im highly dexterous and decently strong so i deal out damage with the best of em.
hafling warriors are HIGHLY underestimated i suggest you try one out before going with a different race

Yeah, makes some sense to me. This way, you can expand your circle of RL acquaintances beyond just the group you participate in for your EQ addiction and the substance abuse group you already have to attend for the addiction brought on by the endless patch frustrations.

With this, you could also start attending a group for treatment of a gambling addiction as well.

Halfling Clerics--Tips and/or Advice
# Mar 27 2001 at 11:22 AM Rating: Decent
I've been developing a halfling cleric as a secondary character, and have found the experience somewhat unsatisfying. (My primary characters are a halfling druid and a barb shaman, both of which have afforded me hours and hours of pleasure.) Does anyone have any tips or advice or guidance (serious or satiric--Pusbag, I'm looking in your direction!) for playing the halfling cleric? How soon should he head across the wall in Misty Thicket--can the skeletons and Lesser Mummy provide good exp w/ the lvl 5 Ward Undead spell, or will the roaming bears and wolves aggro so much as to make the experience too dangerous? How soon should he leave MT entirely, and where go from there?

(My two cp: I wonder if the absence of many cleric-specific quests doesn't hurt the halfling cleric, along with the fact that he can't do the Deputy Tagil quest for a long tim [if ever].)
RE: Halfling Clerics--Tips and/or Advice
# Apr 16 2001 at 9:30 AM Rating: Decent
A little advice is it ya want eh? Well, set down and listen to my story. By Bristlebane's teeth, I've had the most fun a halfling cleric can have I expect. I've gone to level 9 after only 2 days and almost all of it soloing. The only unpleasantness at all is when one o' them druids makes it rain and spoils yer line of sight.

So, where was I? Ah yes... what did I do? Here's what I did:

Levels 1 through 4 stay I would advise you t'stay on the near side of the wall and focus yer attention on the critters there. Gradually go from the rats and such up to the wolves, spiders, fire beetles and such.

At 5 go across the wall and turn left. There is a might safe place (if anyplace outside o'Rivervale can be called safe) at the top of the hill where the non-aggressive critters (bats, rats, spiders) like t'roam. Smack anything blue to you. If I might make a suggestion now that I got your rapt attention. Change your view when fighting so you can see if anything not-so friendly does wander by (most likely a shadow wolf, wandering gob/orc or bear/young kodiak).

But you want a little extra insight? He he. I know you would. Here are a few little tips which will speed things up for you a bit: When a critter begins to flee from you during battle they will run toward the wall, so you might want to orient yourself so that you don't have to turn around to chase them. And when they get close to the wall the Deputies have an annoying habit of jumping in and stealing your kill dontcha know. Zap 'em before that can happen is all I have t'say.

Here's another little tip for you. You don't always have ta run to the gate in the wall t'be safe. Look up yonder at the gatehouses along the wall. If you spy a Deputy atop he can jump down and save you if you find yerself in a tight spot. But don't forget the Divine Aura. Dontcha know that Bristlebane helps those who ask.

Anyway, that's the end of my tale. I hope things work out for you.

What lvl be ye? the cleric be a slow one to play at first but will explode around 14th or so youll even see an obvious increase in effectiveness and group seeking after 8th when get med. You have to be of the cleric mindset, in that youll have to be willing to sit back and do nothing but heal and buff alot of the time in groups, although not always. This is balanced by the high lvl of group availability, everyone wants at least one cleric in the group.

As to when and where to go, I found that it was effective to follow the same route as me druid in that respect, check out the druid board to find some really good advice as to where and when to go to places.....even some good advice from others than yours truly:P

There are several cleric specific quests, there are not many class specific quests for most of the classes, with a couple exceptions, this allows you to get items that improve stats that you need such as wis weather yer a druid or a cleric for example. look under Quests/by class on this site for any specific quests.

After ye get over the 8th lvl hump ye should enjoy the cleric much more, be happy, chanters have 16 lvlvs before they get breeze to muddle through and druids have 14 till sow so 8 lvls isnt so bad:)

I have played a Halfling Cleric up to Twenty, and I got there with few hitches and problems. (And pretty Quickly)

First I hang out in Misty Thicket until I was level 13. Do the Goblins Beads quest as much for the XP as anything, and kill EVERYTHING. You will almost always be able to find a group, but if you are cautious, you will be just fine soloing. I am not sure when I ventured across the wall, but I know that I did it with a group. A good place to solo on the other side of the wall is the hill just to the left of the gate. Lots of stuff is there, pull with a spell and then go to town with Yaulp. In case of a train or an unexpected bear...Go invincible and run to the wall.
After getting 13, hop the boat over to Unrest. In a good group you will go from 13-17 in a few hours. This also gives you INVALUABLE experience grouping in a hectic and dangerous situation. If you can learn to get your people through Unrest safe every time, You will be a succesful Cleric. Also, in Unrest you can NUKE!
Once you are at 17 or 18 you might wanna hop over to Crushbone and try to get yourself a Screaming Mace, OR You can head back to HH and kill orcs. If the HH groups are full, you should be able to find a group in Karana or the Maze while you wait. Or you can pick off yard trash in Karana. This is how I made it to twenty before taking a break from my Largo Lifelender.

Roleplay Tips: Halflings in general LIKE staying home and sitting by the fire. If it rains, COMPLAIN a LOT! Blame it on a Druid or Ranger in the party and his/her diety. Concern yourself with all the dieties and what they do and COMPLAIN if they are doing something annoying. Swear by Bristlebane! He is your GOD! some of my favorite hotkeys where: "By Bristlebane's fuzzy feet! TRAIN!" (Used frequently in Unrest" or "By the power of Fizzlethorpe I smite thee!" (For a good Anti-Undead spell) others include "Largo whistles a merry little walking tune." on a long Journey. Halfling enjoy sunny days and basking in the sun and going for pleasant little walks. Halfling Clerics get drug all over the place to keep people alive and into good mischief. Get into good mischeif whenever you can. (I play on Tallon Zek-I get into LOTS of mischief)

Sum Up: Halflings Like the sun but only like the rain when indoors. When not in Rivervale, all other towns pale in comparison. The Shire is the ONLY place in Norrath worth Living, everywhere else is nice to visit. Bristlebane is the god of thieves and Mischief. Be mischievious. I am not saying you should Ninja Loot or nothing...but make a emote that says "Largo tugs at Bob's Belt pouch" or something.

Just my experienc roleplaying Halfling Clerics for 20 levels and a halfling warrior for another 20. (Not in that order)

Heheh.
Naw, I haven't left the place, it's just I just haven't been at work lately.

As to the matter at hand I believe the time has come for me to assert myself and expose Fiddo's weakness: woodelves. Yes, I said woodelves.
Fiddo is a known druid and has been seen in the company of *gasp* woodelves. Now if you put 1 and 1 together the answer that keeps coming up is 2. In other words, when you see a halfling druid cavorting with those prancing little elves there can be only one explanation: fraternization. You may draw your own conclusion as to what the meaning of all this, but one thing is clear and that "thing" is that Fiddo has been aiding and abetting the enemy.

So, the next time you see lithe elves of any flavor dancing and prancing through the woods followed by a rotund, hairy, bald, and clumsy elf take a moment to do a double take and realize that that is no elf at all, but rather is Fiddo hanging out with his new buds, the elfies.
Disgusting, isn't it?

okies mate ye've left me no choice, seems theres no depths to what a troll will say to ruin a good halfling's reputation, the truth be ugly but tis true that Ive been seen with the woodelves from time to time, but the reason is of a much uglier strain, seems that Pusbag had diseapeared for awhile, claimed to be away from work, so me needing some fresh floor coverings, I went to track this troll, and what do I find? It is the rascally Pusbag who seems to be running with the wood elves his own self...dont believe me?..well ye can see fer yerself were he invited a woodelf embasseder, a certain Halfelf to dinner to discusse it in the trolls page, well I tell ye, wasnt me running with the woodelves what ye seen but me bent over gagging running away upon seeing Pusbag trying to caper and do the twirls with the woodelves, twasnt the capering what was bad but the lime green tutu what Pusbag was wearing:) Next thing ye know hell be hobnobbing with the high elves, then be no more high elf gumbo:(

/em Treachery goes to Grobb and delivers the notepad to Troll Shaman Leader Kaglari

/em Treachery gets the share of medium-rare ogre meat as promised for the valuable information, knowing what would be coming for the treacherous trolls...

Three Month Later....

/em Treachery is walking through Innothule Swamp, headed towards Oggok

/em Treachery sees a gigantic building that she had never seen before

/em Treachery walks over to it

/em Treachery reads on the face of the building: "TROLL AKADAMEY FOR PROFESHINAL
BALLEY AND DAUNCING."

/em Treachery climbs over the wall of the building with some rope and makes her way inside and sees a door

/em Treachery hears a piano being played inside the door and a dry coarse troll voice shouting "Flex, 1, 2, 3, and...." suddenly interrupted by sounds of discord from someone slamming the keys in anger. "NO! YU TOES IS NOT POINTED PROPRULY!!! YOU STUPID PIECE OF GREEN MEAT!!!" came the same voice but now enraged and then the sound of steel being drawn from a sheathe. A troll's decapitated head suddenly went flying out of a window near Treachery, bouncing a couple of times on the ground, followed by a troll's body wearing a tutu and in a tight pink dress with cute green slippers and complete with stockings.

/em Treachery sneaks through the door to encounter the most outrageous scene: Trolls wearing tutus and slippers leaping into the air (/ooc Think of the Cingular Commercial with the football players doing ballet) and Pusbag, Fiddo, and a good-mannered frilly !WOOD ELF! directing the students. Pusbag (DRESSED IN A FAERIE COSTUME AND HOLDING A FAKE WAND!) and the wood elf (wearing a very tight green shirt and green tights) in a corner discussing *GASP* politics and *GAPE* Gurknak (a famous troll classical musician that is pretty much the trolls' Bach though none of them ever cared about him and he was exiled and eaten by ogres), and, not to mention, *PROTEST ALOUD* the crisis with the rapidly dropping population of snow bunnies in Velious and how they should save them from extinction. Pusbag HIMSELF made a tearful, heartfelt speech that they should campaign about it and encourage people to save these beloved creatures. Fiddo ( who was the one who had decapitated the troll earlier when he didnt point his toes properly), however, looked like he was prepared to go to war against a country. He had all sorts of weapons attached to him ( 12-inch swords, throwing axes, and hammer, arrows, and a wicked-looking whip). As he instructed the students, he would occasionally whip them or simply take out his 12-inch sword and smite their head off, taking the head and devouring in a couple of mouthfuls. He had a collection of candied troll ears on a table nearby. He seemed like he was giving military orders instead of teaching them.

/em Treachery walked out, astonished beyond words

OK, heres the great thing about halfling warriors! They ARE SMALL! Dwarfs make maybe the best small warriors but, I twinked a halfling warrior on Drinal. I am a lvl 56mage. Well the warrior is lvl 37 now and hits for around 44max with his lamantation and 47with his CSS. I made his base stats 100str, 90sta, 100agi, and whatever base dex he had. Now with the stuff I twinked him with hes got 163str, 122sta, 112agi, 137dex(only stats that really matter). 879ac isn't too bad is it? Well maybe a few of you think since I'm twinked it doesn't count. BUT HALFLINGS RULE!!!

Ok just a question, having never played a warrior up to any lvl worth mentioning Im not sure, but seems at 37 he should be hitting for more than 44 or 47 maxx shouldnt he? not sure so is just a question, not being snide.

Auactly, i believe he is hitting for 44 and 47 with one hand slashing....Thats not bad if you think about it, then compare that with duel wield, so add 44+47 for one round, then if they pull off a double attack (44+47)x2 not to mention any critical/crippling blows.....its not bad, course, im just a druid, what do i know?

Which will help the most over all for a warrior? 125 agil or 105 str? Is it not good to split like 95 str/ 110 agil? I heard there was a bonus or something at the 100/125 marks and that is why it is good to put all the points into one stat?

Power Leveling a Halfling Rogue
# Feb 11 2001 at 4:27 AM Rating: Default
This is from my experience as a 10 halfling rogue, power leveling another halfling rogue to level 7 in 3 hours. For the first 2 levels, he'd kill to 50%, and I'd finish it off. This took about 30 minutes to get to level 3 (the level where rogues stop being completely helpless.)

Then we'd do the Gunrich quest. Just go to Gunrich, a named Goblin and say "Dark rivers flow east". Gunrich will give you a box to give to Reuppy (sp) in the Fool's Gold. Gunrich is usually by the undead monument on the other side of the wall. The box is LORE ITEM only so you can only get one, but since the box is not NO DROP, we'd both get one, and I could give mine to him. If you don't have good faction with rogues, you won't be able to do this quest. You will ruin faction with Merchants of the Vale, but by using sneak to get indifferent, it won't matter how bad your faction gets. You should get level 6 in about 2 hours by doing this quest.

At level 6 we could group so we could exp for killin' stuff. We each got 8 backpacks, and killed every goblin warrior we saw collecting rusties, cloth armor (for money and armor pieces), and most importantly, Runnyeye Warbeads. After 30 minutes of this, we went to town, disbanded (very important) and he turned in about 40 beads. Ding! Level 7. The beads will still give great exp until about level 10, where you get backstab, when the rogue really becomes a rogue, but he had to log so I guess we'll continue another day.

Have fun!
Popular Classes for Halflings
# Feb 08 2001 at 7:54 PM Rating: Default
A thread on the Druid strategy page includes a post in which someone claims that roughly 70% of all EQ players are druids, and roughly 40% of those are Halflings.

I've played a few different halflings on Vazaelle (since I got EQ at Christmas), and--based solely on limited personal experience--I'd have to agree, at least to the extent that I've met many more druids in Rivervale and Misty Thicket than halflings of any other class.

So, my question: of the remaining 3 classes, which are the most and least popular among halfling players, and why?

(My login name is Wyldling. The server won't recognize my password today; I apologize for the anon. post.)

Something about the emote suggests irony or sarcasm--which, in and of itself, is fine. But I'm wondering if the first statement isn't truer than not. On Vazaelle, I usually /who after I log on, and rarely find more than 2 or 3 clerics (if any--last night, there were none at first; within an hour, there were 3, though one was a visiting High Elf).

Agree or disagree? And, if it's true, why is it the case? Do more players pick druid than cleric b/c of the perception that the former is easier to solo?

Heheh.
My apologies. Yes, I was being a smarty-pants.

A halfling IS given the choice to be a cleric, but most choose to be a druid it seems. Generally, the reasons why there are certain race/class combinations and not others in EQ is based on traditional Tolkien lore and playability. The game and the stories have not given any race a twin capabilty to heal (ie. wisdom and intelligence based magical medical skills). The two schools of magic are supposedly diametric and opposing although in the game they complement each other when joined in a group.
In any of the J.R.R. Tolkien books (Lord of the Rings is one of the trilogy he wrote that you might be familiar with) each race was quite secretive of the school of magic they commanded and were reluctant to share or even show others an example of their powers.

As for why there are not more clerics playing the game, when EQ first was out clerics were a dime a dozen, but after nerfs and the growth of characters to post-L50, it was shown that clerics are weak and serve no purpose other than to heal the group. As obvious as that sounds, it makes playing a cleric a one dimensional character which become quite onerous quickly especially when you try playing a shaman or monk or druid. Then there is the issue of soloing vs grouping. Druids are quite capable of playing the game off by themselves, but a cleric has virtually no combat skills leaving him at the mercy of the monsters or joining a group. Meanwhile, if a druid decides to join with others he can pull, heal, fight, and eventually evacuate people from bad situations gone worse to a safe haven somewhere else.
So, I hope to have made up for my flippant remark by my apology and rather lengthy explanation, and I wish you well in the game. Have fun.

--Pusbag Infection

PS: If any of you reading this have not read any of Tolkien's work, I heartily recommend doing so in that he is a tremendous storyteller (all of the alternate universe stories are based on his writings including Ultima, EQ, D&D, and even Pokemon among others) and a motion picture is soon to be released which will probably massacre the whole trilogy. J.R.R. will be spinning in his grave...

PSS: For all of you halflings, Tolkien's main character is a halfling/hobbit whose name is Bilbo and is a rogue of sorts who prefers farming, but is coerced into stealing to save Middle Earth. So it should be a matter of pride for you that you have chosen the race of the pioneer who started it all, oh, so many years ago.

From Pusbag:

<<A halfling is not given the choice to be a cleric, only a druid. >>

Here's what's throwing me off--halflings _can_ be clerics. My first halfling character was a cleric--they all serve the Trickster God--and the cleric guild in Rivervale sells some fine armor and 1HB weapons.

To be fair, I've only met a handful of clerics, and none above lvl 12. Of course, I'm still stuck in Misty Thicket, and the higher-lvl halfling clerics are probably long since gone....

(This response is an addendum to my answer above)

Halflings will probably never get to be rangers in that that is a career (class) that is traditionally an elven one, but learned to a lesser degree by humans.
Halflings are supposed to be comfortable in small closed spaces, they prefer the dark, farming, and cooking, which is their main form of enjoyment. They enjoy looking for herbs to cook with (hence their tendency towards the druid class although in reality this is quite a contradiction since druids are a RL human phenomenon). They live under hills and in the roots of large trees, so they like to dig, but not for mining purposes like dwarves.
I just thought I'd relay that bit of info as I'm a fan of Tolkien.

Where are the Halfling Warriors ?
# Feb 07 2001 at 7:02 PM Rating: Default
Yesterday I did "/who all halfling warrior"
the results came out with _4_ people !!!
There was a level 40 and I personally met a female
halfling level 52 something in East Commons. She looked great in the crafted armor.

Trolls and ogres have more STA so what ? What do you think 500 HP difference does it make when you are level 55 fighting huge mobs that hit you for 100-500 anyway, and the Cleric's spell healing thousands of HP 's ??

Warrior base stats:
Halfling AGI 100 DEX 90
Ogre AGI 75 DEX 70

AGI has a _slight_ AC effect, but then every AC
point counts at high levels, and DEX means more often procs , and crits. You will also cap your skills faster than the 'fat' races with a lil better INT, which means a more efficient warrior.

Now, take a level 50 Ogre and Halfling Warriors. With the same equipment, even if the Ogre spent ALL his bonus pts in AGI and DEX, the Halfling will always have _45_ more pts in those two stats since the base stats are higher (+25 AGI +25 DEX).

At high level this means that while you may have less HP you will be hit slightly less often, proc more (high DEX), and Crit more ! Thus dealing more damage with a bit of luck, offsetting the cost of mana that you might _supposedly_ need if you didnt get lucky at your AGI rolls for defense.

So what's the problem here ?

!!! S T E R E O T Y P E S !!!

I have an original warrior that not many ppl see around, a charming female halfling warrior who did a crit for 83 DMG at level 12 with a stupid 2handed sword. And I'll duel any ogre or troll of same level nude with same weapon ANY time !

I AM NOT SAYING HALFLINGS ARE MORE POWERFUL THAN OGRES SO PLEASE SPARE ME THE USELESS REPLIES.

I am just saying Halfling Warriors can be good high level warriors and people are just stupidly following the stereotypes.

Thanks for listening.

PS: I am currently level 15, I stopped my Bard at 30, finally realising I have so much fun with plain hack n slash. I will post here whenever I find out my Halfling Warrior isn;t quite up to the task, but methinks that won't happen in a while.

Heheh, in my stomach, that's where...

Seriously, other than the experience issue, Ogres cannot be stunned from the front which is quite valuable to a warrior, and Trolls have their regeneration. While that is not a tremendous advantage getting those 2 extra health points per tick at the low levels allow for a slightly longer fight and less downtime when resting.

It is kind of a tradeoff as I see it, much like making a human wizard. Sure, it can be done, but there are much better races to make one with. Given equal levels, weapons, armor, etc etc an Ogre will kill a Halfling every time other than the random statistical anomaly which can, and does, appear.

However, your statement that stereotypes channel people into choosing certain "types" is absolutely true. I make a point of creating everyone of my characters in a manner which bucks the norm for the game which I am playing. For instance, I made an Oriental female monk (even though I knew it would subject me to endless A/S/L questions by teenage boys) and a male Erudite cleric just because it supposedly wasn't the "right" way to do things.
Just be who you wish to be!

Hey all IM a halfling warrior and i have to say it has been most enjoyable time. When I started out I put most of my points in strength and stamina because a halfling starts off wil pretty good other stats. Its kewl being the only halfling warrior in a zone at a time and we have good faction with everyone(almost damn Iksar) so you dont need to really worry about getting run out of town. If you decide to start a halfling warrior once you reach lvl 7 or so start killing goblins in a small group with people 2 lvls or so above you and then do the warbeads quest which gives you money and faction. (this is how i got all my money to buy my armor)
well happy hunting

Hmm, well not sure but think the troll has higher base int than warrior halfling, as to halfling warriors, they are great, not to mention they get faster exp, but what they dont have is the massive str of ogres and trolls, which counts for how much you can carry as well as how many times and how fast you swing your weapon, as well as max damage after cap is lifted, which translates into total damage.

As to them having 500 more hpts, when mobs are hitting for 100-500 pts, thats 1 to 4 more hits that they can take more than halflings, and ive had enough experiance with living barely by a few hpts or dieing just before i killed the crit.

As to learning the various skills, most of the skills warriors needed were changed from int to going off str as well, such as offense, so that warriors could learn their trade better, this means that ogres with higher str actually have the advantage at learning offensive skills over halflings.

As to following the stereotypes, I would choose an ogre for a warrior solely because his stats are best set up for it, or I would choose a halfling because of faster exp/lvling or because they are rarer, plus I just like halflings:)

Fiddo,
That is seriously scary. :)
I hope you aren't married or anything, because there are MANY other things that need your attention, namely your wife.
I must confess, however, that I am a vidiot, and when EQ first came out I was hooked for months-- much to the chagrin of my immediate family. They have seen the pattern before: hours spent learning the ropes, then days spent leveling up to the exclusion of EVERYTHING (food, beer, excercise, sex-- I told you I was addicted, didn't I?).
This lasted until I discovered Deus Ex. Now my EQ time is much more managable...
...heheh.
