sup fellow half-elves im thinkin which is better a paladin or a ranger.i've played both but dont know which class to actually stick 2 i deleted my ranger he was lvl 14,and i still got my half elf pally whos lvl 17 but i'am really puzzled i think half elves make excellent paladins so ppl who want to pursue that class its good to play wit ex.lay hands, buffs, yaulp, tankin abilities, but also rangers got buffs, track, forage, the big DUELWIELD that i wanted 4 a while now but really not good at being smacked up by the monsters in eq.i'am not a newb in eq jus need some advice from ppl who have been on eq longer then i have. Advice would be good and thnxs for whoever gives it too bad i cant have the best of both worlds so let me know what ya think

Do half elves make good pallys?
RE: HF pallys
# Aug 29 2001 at 12:09 AM Rating: Decent
It really depends, Half Elves have average STR and STA. They have nice DEX and AGI which also helps but have low WIS.

Just boost the WIS a little and add some more STR and you'll make a decent Paladin, just get STR, STA and some WIS items in game and you'll be a good Paladin.

By the way, stat wise, Dwarves mae good paladins but stink too much...

I'm a half-elf rogue at level 22. This is my prime character. I have experimented iwth other classes but keep coming back to this one. Playing a rogue is not for everyone. It requires a lot more strategy since you are a blend of several classes. You fight like a warrior but cannot take the damage a warrior can. You can wear good armor but not plate armor like a warrior or cleric. You have 'simulated magic' capabilities with Hide/Sneak which works like an Invisibility spell but with no time limit. With poisons at level 20 you can root, do more damage, snare, weaken, and stun much like a necromancer can. But, you have to be in melee range to do it. You strike as quickly as a monk but you have to have weapons to be effective. You can use Instill Doubt like a monk, but not as well. We are the only class that gets Riposte. To top it all off most NPC's don't like you. Vendor's may not sell to you at first until you raise faction (hide+sneak helps here though since we can trade while invis and faction becomes indifferent).

Half-elves make great rogues since you have good dex and agi and you do not suffer the STR penalties of the halflings or gnomes. Dwarves and Barbarians have better STR and STA but take hits in AGI, DEX, and INT. Humans are about as balanced as the Half-elf but they cannot see in the dark. They do level a little faster than a half-elf but I have not had a problem with that.

I could go on for another couple of paragraphs but I think you get the idea.

I have a lvl 15 Half Elf Pally... and he's ok... I made the mistake of putting most of my stats into str... while I hit good... my spell casting sucks and I have truely become the fizzle king...

I do believe Half Elves are ok... we look good and from what I've seen being a Paladin hasn't set me back at all... I have spells (when they work) and can tank well... useful for soloing!!!

Anyway I think the race is not that important... after a while it's what you wear that really makes the difference... I just have to find some good wiz stuff...

Hail, Noble half-elf palidan. I belive I know what is wrong with your fizzles! As I once too was the fizzle king! I can teach you in this simple 3 step program! Step one: Go to your local palidan trainer. Step 2: Train in Abjuration and Alteration. Step 3: keep casting and watch your fizzles go away, After a while you will be able to cast...well, thats the problem with many Hybrid players, they don't even know the basics of their spell casting techniques.

Well hope this helps! Good luck Palidan!

RE: half elf bard or rogue
# Aug 13 2001 at 7:30 AM Rating: Default
Ok, a half-elf bard or rogue....let me see.

Honestly, I would have to say the bard. HEF's make great bards, with the good charisma, decent melee stats (maybe not too decent on the stamina), and the best look around with lambent or singing steel. While some people may argue differently, some people say a bard can't solo. What the hell..!? A bard is a soloing machine, perhaps only outmatched by a druid or necro, and in SOME cases, a mage. Bards can kite, fear kite, DoT kite, charm kite, quad kite, and do just about everything else you've ever dreamed of...and here's the great part: there's NO downtime whatsoever. Almost ALL bard songs cost no mana at all, which means you can cast them for ages, which means you can run around with Selo's and DoT multiple mobs, then just run around while they fall at your mercy. While rogues are also a great class to play, IMHO halflings or dark elves make much better ones. If you want to play the class that the half-elf was made for, go with the bard. That's my 2cp worth, although it's probably worth much more than that, as you'll see when you're pimping mobs 3 levels above you, decked in lambent..

IMHO go for rogue. I did. You get the AGI and DEX stats you need to excel as a rogue. You can solo or group as you wish and you don't need a light source.

Bards are nice. I like bards. Some of my best friends are bards. But they seem to have a tougher time going it alone than I do.

Rogues are the most flexible class. They can serve as a 2nd class tank. They can solo into their low 20's (albeit slowly). When you get to making poisons you can serve as a snare/root/debuffer (although not as good as a caster class). Rogues can go places bards can't go by using Sneak+Hide. They can trade with vendors a bard can't trade with. With Safe Fall watch the mobs choke as you jump off a cliff and either they can't follow you or they take gobs of damage if they do. And you should see the money you make opening doors for people stuck in Befallen :)

I hope someone else sees this post and gives the bards' advantages. I don't want to dis bards. Its just that I know rogues best.

Well im pretty sure you have never played a bard. I soloed my bard till lvl 27 which is where I am now. And i think bards are the most flexible class. Jack of all trades a master of none. Bards get a snare song and it is very usefull. Bards can sneak, hide and get safe fall aswell. And about the vendor thing.... i can sell to every vender I see with my 123 charisma and my charisma song all merchants are more then happy to sell to me.

I dont have all the banded stuff yet but im crafting it(or ******** it up) my druid sucks compared to this guy. His sword is junk incaracerate. He has a lot of money which im saving up for some plate.

thanks but my druids lvl 20 now. He looks damn good in the velious armor my friend got me. Not NEARLY as good as a warrior in fp or banded. I also can cast sow which is pretty darn handy. HEs got all the druid velious armor (the guy was nuts) and also my de war has all the full plate and looks good (understatement) I can cast lighting and ignite and really good heals. My friends (lvl 23 necro, 22 war) we camp the millers and the ruins area near surefall glade for money. Excellent money and exp. Ive got so much plat I dont no what the beep to do with it all. I give it to newbies happening bye. Im not on as much with him Im working my lvl 7 (sigh) shadow knight up to around that level. It really depends on what you like to play as. thats my 2cp lol.

So you want a half elf, eh?
# Jul 30 2001 at 8:56 PM Rating: Decent
Okay, here's the deal on Half elves. They can play an assortment of classes, start in the most cities and can choose from the most dieties.

Bard - HE Bards kick, I believe they are the best. Why? Well, besides having good stats, they look super-awesome in lambent armor (Chicks dig it).

Druid - ....No......unless you want to roleplay, look at the WIS....70.....no...dont go there, they cant even wear plate and look sick in other armor....no....

Paladin - These priestly warriors have low WIS and mediocre STR and STA, but pretty good AGI. Again, probably a roleplaying selection, but not one for the books, although you can wear plate armor.

Ranger - Same as above, accept you can wear plate. Too bad

Rogue - Half elves can make tight rogues, and look decent in ravenscale. They have good AGI and DEX, and decent STR and STA. not at all a bad selection. plus, HE's are outcasts anyway, so they fit the description.

Warrior - Tight....again, good AGI and DEX, and decent STR and STA, they look the best in the plate armor, and can kick *** if played right. They are also extremely fun to roleplay.

There's my '2cp', now go be a half elf and help take over Norrath!!

As a result they have killed me three times. What items should I get at lvl four to get money from? My 1-h blunt is good and I hit for decent amounts but I wanna buy a 17 plat flail. Im not sure what to sell for lots of money. Also what armor should I buy?
thanks in advance :)

I was playing around and I think I made a Half Elf Pally.. it said I could only start it Felwithe. I think this depends on who your deity is so you can check it out.. its weird!
RE: Starting
# Aug 16 2001 at 4:58 PM Rating: Decent
Aye, if any HE Paladin would like to start in Felwithe, pick your deity as Tunare, only followers of the mother can start there.

By the way, HE Paladin's rule, Dwarves may be good but they are too short and smelly, humans look stupid with their bucket helmets, only with the right looking armor can a Paladin triumph over evil (of course with faith in his gods and friends as well)

Who cares what race you pick tho, pick one you WANT to play in and forget about the little numbers, they help but the true fun of EQ is actually playing it.

i am a lv9 half elf ranger and i'm trying to get into flecthing, annd i'm doing pretty darn good with just making arrows, but pretty soon i'll need to start making bows(plus i just plain wanna cause my bow sucks =) but the problem is that the merchents who sell bow parts in Kelethin refuse to talk to me, they say stuff like "I am tolernat by nature, but after all you have done i can't stand you." I dont see what I did wrong I've never killed any elves and i worship tuanre, also all the high elves say this too, is that normal( cause from what I've heard high elves are snooty) oh btw I started in Kelethin cause im on Tallon Zek and I'm scared to leave the area cause one time I went to kaladim and some gnomes Pk'ed me. If that is now my only option I can, but I will will miss Gfay cause I love it there, please help me

The answer is to become a troll. A simple response, I know, but think of the benefits of such an action: evil wraps its' cold touch around your heart leaving you immune to the weak sensitivities of the "morally righteous" creatures which pollute this game. You can wreak havoc on all of Norrath's spawn from the bastardly half elves to the slimey lizards to the *cough* "noble" high elves.

Trolls are born without a conscience, but with a huge appetite. We live not for the fine arts and higher avocations (such as your vaunted fletching skill), but for the feast. We fill our belly with our domesticated cattle, the elves. Our plentiful farms in Faydark such as Kelethin and Felwithe grow these plump and delicious meals with little to no interaction with us until our teeth crunch through their bones.

So I encourage you again-- raise a troll and feel your bloodlust rise at the sight of food roaming the cities and lands of our fair home. There is no emotion more powerful!

All I can say is to go to Crushbone and fight the orcs for faction. Also try pixies, they give ranger faction I believe. I'm not sure, but the reason they are like this may be because you are a half elf, and outcast in both the elven and human worlds...

Hmm.. I'm a Half Elf and I've never had trouble with other elves (except those damned Inkies).

If you hunted Orc Slavers in CB that might be the problem as sometimes the slaves will help out and then they'll attack you and only way to get rid of them is kill them or zone.

Personally only killed one once and that's because I thought someone helping the orcs deserves to die, even if it's another elf....

Thing is, kill Orcs and not slaves, also kill pixies and collect their dusts talk to the ranger guild master and he might give you a pouch, fill it with 6 pixie dusts return and you should get faction. But only do that after you get higher than indiffrent con with him.

Good luck to you, maybe someday us Half Elves will start a city of our own....

It is my first char and looks like I'm stuck with healing spells, no big wammies. I am twinked a bit with ulthork and one cured Tizmak and Frorged Drakkel ******* Sword. Any suggestions on how to get my hands on Ry'gor equip or more Tizmak stuff, or simply to get plat at a good spot besides the crowded Common Lands outside FP?
Any suggestions on where I should go in terms of character development?
What does my future look like? I would like to develop this character pretty far before starting another one. Am in Qeynos at moment.

Greetings fellow Half Elf Paladin,

In response to your question, I would say go to Highpass. The loot there is decent for your level and the exp isn't bad either. Maybe you could pick up a Cracked Darkwood Shield while hunting the Gnolls as well, the extra STR while using a 1HS is nice.

About the armor, it will come, believe me, i was still wearing bronze at level 27. RyGorr costs a fair bit and if you can't afford the several hundred plat per peice, you will either have to save up or level up quickly till around level 34-35 so you can camp the orcs (Will need a higher level party tho).

Good luck to you and keep your fiath where it should be!
