Pure Melee, Hybrid Balance
# Jan 18 2002 at 7:54 AM Rating: Decent
Seems apparent to me that half elves provide racial balance to whatever class they can become. At the same time they will never be as good as other races can be at these classes.. For instance.. I have 52 Warrior he's got some nice stats, 200+ str 100+ agi sta dex. However an Ogre warrior of the same level should have 200+str 150+ agi sta dex. Since they start out with such a high str they can offord to offer up starting points to the other stats, so they DO make the better warrior.. Same goes for Rogues, Usually Barbs or Dwarves are better rogues, same reason, start out with somewhat high str, they can afford to put points in other areas.. As with druids, Wood Elves start with more base wis.. This is a little different though, I believe as any hybrid outside of a SK you should put all available points into wis.. That is your mana pool.. In closing, Half Elves do so much well but not great!! We do have advantages when it comes to armor! We can wear racial armor of 4 different races.. Although I believe we can only use a human forge ;(.. But we can wear Embued Elvin Chain, Teir Dal Adamentite, and whatever the stuff Humans and wood elves make.. Half Elves are awesome!! and since luclin we look all smoov and creemie!

Alas, we half elves cannot use a human forge. Or an elven one, for that matter.

Because we are the ******* children of humans and elves, we don't have any real culture of our own. And therefore, we can't make our own cultural armor either.

But, we can wear human, dark elven, and high elven cultural armor. The stats on the Blessed Full Mithril are mind-blowing. It makes me glad I chose a deity and didn't go the agnostic route.

How about a Half-Elf Rogue.
# Jan 08 2002 at 6:11 PM Rating: Decent
I am strongly considering starting a Half-Elf Rogue because I feel it would be a fun Race/Class combination. Think about the roleplay possibilities. You aren't a real human or a real elf and so might not be accepted by either race. This could create a kind of blackness in your heart which fuels your dark ways.

The only problem I have is that I have been told that Halfling Rogues are at a disadvantage due in part to the fact that they cannot wear some rogue armor. Also they can't forage or hide right off. Any advice on this would be most welcome.

Thank you ahead of time.

You can tell this forum doesnt see a lot of action, huh?

I have a half-elf rogue. Frankly, I am very happy. Many others say dwarf or barbarian since the stats are better initially. This is true. But by the time you are pushing your 45th level the stat advantage is gone. With equipment every rogue has more or less the same stats.

What I like about being a half-elf is that, as a newbie, you have more starting zone options. You also have infravision. Your starting stats are not the best all around but are a close 2nd. You don't have the size problems that barbarians have. Racial experience penalties are not a problem. You look cool.

For roleplay options you are right. HE rogues are perfect to fit between cracks of society.

So, enjoy!

My experience playing a HE druid has been a good one. Granted the starting Wisdom is a bit low, but I've found that half-elves are a bit more sturdy than their more popular racial counterpart, the wood-elf. Besides, with so many stat-enhancing items, there's no reason not to play whatever class/race combo you'd like.

One recent visit to Surefall Glade brought be face to face with a level 60 half-elf Druid named Benni. She had a full set of woven grass armor, the Nature Walker Scimitar, and a full spell book. It was quite a nifty sight!

I've got some questions for the more seasoned among you, though. What MOB drops the uber spell that stops rain? I haven't been able to find an answer. Also, what the next armor upgrade from a Foreman's Tunic? (It was given to me after I accidentally found the Ogre camp in West Karana...silly me...I should have known even amiable Ogres are still Ogres...) I just want to know so that when the time comes, I'll be able to get ahold of the next tunic.

Thanks

Have the half-elves been changed? I have been trying to make a half-elvyn char, but with every class it only allows me to choose Tunare as a diety and Kelethin as a starting city. I thought Half elves had more choices that that?

On most blue servers you won't have a problem. But if you are on a role-play or PVP server your starting places may be more limited.

Also, always check in with the guild trainers, they have nifty little quests that get you started with some armor, xp, and arms.
The Elf in the ranger guild, name of Dil something, wants like 2 orc hatchets, carried by orc pawns. You get tarnished weapons, mainly, but occasionaly you get cast iron, which are not bad up to lvl 10-12.
The other guild trainer has the bright butterfly thingy flying in front of her. Tell her you'll help exterminate the pixie tricksters, she give you a bag to fill with 6 pixie powders, which when filled and the combine button is pressed, then handed into her gets you some piece of armor, xp, faction, etc.

Half elves are an excellent choice for rangers. Go around killing wasps, snakes, and bats until they green out, then kill orc pawns, and then move on to crushbone or orc hill.

The problem with half-elves is that they have low Wisdom. So, more of your starting points need to get dumped into that stat to make a half-way decent druid. I know. I have tried. You can do it. Its just that you won't have as much mana early on and will have to rely on melee a little more than other druids. I would start in Kelethin. That way you don't have to worry about rabid animals and such ******** up your faction.

One of the drawbacks of being a half-elf is that you don't have a culture per se. So you cannot make cultural armor. However, you can probably wear the Tunare cultural armor (assuming you are a follower). You just need someone else to make it.

Armor is more important than bows/arrows to a rogue; especially at your level. Spend you money on armor.

Most folks pay 1-2pp each for Crushbone belts.

At your level I would focus more on melee than throwing or archery. Its just too expensive. This is a point in your life when every copper piece counts.

Keep pressing on, though. Rogues really begin to distinguish themselves around level 10. By level 20 they are a force to be reckoned with. I know players who get real nervous when they hear a mid to high level rogue is in the zone on PVP servers.

Well I can honestly say that my HE Ranger has been fun since the start. I started in Surefall so I had a good time hunting Gnolls and then moving on to Everfrost and the Karana's. I will swear by my Ranger and I hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do. We look cool in almost any armor and I increased Str and Sta help out when we are at any level. Definetly build up Wis and Agi to help you round out a good character. You also might want to look into bumping Charisma up

Greetings Derek. As a half elf palidan you should split your stat points evenly between WIS, STR, And STA. IMHO that is a good way to do it. And by the way.....when you ding to 9 and go to get your first spells.....DO NOT I mean DO NOT forget to train at least once in abjuration and Ateration....these are the stats that let you cast Healing and buff spells.....you'll thank yourself if you start at lvl 9 belive me. =D well good luck on your palidan Derek!

Hello, I am Koaxan. I am a Half-elf palidan, and I am really enjoying him! He was my first character I made back in my Newbie days. Of course....I was a newbie when I made him an didn't know what I should put the stats in. Ha ha I put everything in to STR not a single point into WIS. But now being of the 17 season at the time of this post, I fight better than my Warrior friends of most races. I have 142 STR with just gear, can yaulp it to 152 and can drink up to 162. Thats pretty good for a "little elfy".
Better than most trolls and barbs. But even though he doesn't have a mega amount of mana....I can live with it. I have some pretty good gear ecpecialy for lvl 17: Charred Gaurdian BP, Boots of Ro, 2x moonstone rings, 2x Orc fang earings, Greaves of Ro, Rusty spiked sholderpads, Crustation shell Bracer, Hero Bracer, Helm of Ro, Spiked Collar, Darkmail Guants, Woven frost giant beard, Purity belt, Cloak of the ice bear, Ghoulbane, and Cracked Darkwood shield. That adds up to +52 to my base STR. W00t! I love being a half-elf and latley I've been noticing more Half elf brothers and sisters. Good-bye for now, And live long and enjoy life Half-elves.

if you want to start over and change your base stats just give your armor to a TRUSTED friend...I always give to someone whom i know in real life. then start your new charactor with the stats of your choice and have your friend give the new character your armor. tis' as simple as that. and pre lvl 20 is not that hard to regain, an experienced player can lvl a toon to lvl 20 in a week or so. and if you find that you hate starting a new toon (i cant stand being lvl 1 LOL) then you can always trade your armor back to the origional char.

War you put most into STA STR and DEX, STA of course gives you more hp and you regain life a bit faster, STR lets you hit harder at about lvl 13 15 I belive, and DEX makes you swing that sword faster. try that and see how it works.

umm, last i heard, dex doesn't help you swing any faster. the delay on the weapon determines how quickly you swing it (haste may or may not affect it. i haven't heard a definitive answer on that). dex affects how often a weapon will proc though.

Alright, here is the low down on the HEF Druids. As most people will tell you(and they are right), we start with the lowest wisdom of any of the druid races(which is our primary stat we should focus on up until 200, then work on mana). I hate to admit it, but at the low-mid level range, we really hurt just for the fact that our wis is on average 20 points below any other druid class. However, at the higher level game when you start doing the Velious armor quests, 200 wisdom is easily attainable as a Half Elf. Basically, put as many point into wisdom at the start of your character as you can, and put the rest into either str or agi(some say int, but I say do that only if you plan on doing trade skills). The balance of having higher stats in the non wis areas will help HEF's in the lower level play up until about level 14, when you stop meleeing. So in essence all you need to do is try to find as much wis gear as you can(duh) and you will eventually be able to hit the magic number of 200 wis. IMO, any class can be played well no matter what race you are, and any race can get the stat enhancing equipment to bring their desired stats to the desired numbers that they need. So if you want to make a Half Elf drui, by all means do so, and don't listen to the people that tell you that you are stupid because you chose a Half Elf as a druid. Happy hunting and safe travels to all.

Ok look, Im sick of us poor Half Elf druids getting picked on, so what if we start with less mana, after 28 Lvls with my HE druid, I wouldnt trade him for anything else. I HAVE FUN! and isnt that all we are here for?
I can kill ANY mob that another race of druid at my lvl can, it all comes down to stratagy, and if u have fun with your character, then u learn how to best use him.
So lay off us druids, we chose to be a HE druid becouse we wanted to be one, dont make fun or insult us for it, just be happy that we can all play a game and interact as the race/class that we want to be!

while I don't know if it is THE best, I have to say I really like my half elf bard. She's tough with that right blend of sweetness. :)

Actually, it almost seems like there is a sort of bellcurve for each race as to what class is best. A race may have one or two that are really prime for it, then they get less and less as you go down. Well, some kind of curve. Hey, maybe we should start really comparing the combos and make a performance chart by lvl. you know 1-10, 11-20, etc.

I'm serious. It would really give people an idea of the difficulty invovled with a character. Half elf bard would be pretty high because of the base stats, etc. But half-elf druids, starting lower on important stats would be difficult at first. Also, newbie zones vary too. Neriak is diffcult IMO, so it would lower the ease rating on any DE combo, but Iksar and, say, Heretics who have really excellent newbie zones would actually score a little higher than the combo would indicate because of the newbie zone factor (though they may or may not prove easy/diff in other lvl ranges)

Hey, if you are interested in helping me with that, the email me at tragicelf@yahoo.com
My fiance is a mathmatician, so he could probably help us in plotting the graphs and stuff.

......

Ok, I OFFICALLY have no life.
