getting to the moon
# Aug 28 2001 at 1:25 AM Rating: Default
there had better be a way to get to the moon without a wiz or druid because i don't want to wait for 30 min for a someone that will port me to the moon and then make me pay like 20pp
RE: getting to the moon
# Aug 31 2001 at 1:48 PM Rating: Decent
From what I hear, there will be port pads all over norrath (within 3-5 zones of any normal norrath zone) that will transport you to Luclin. I think the pad will be inside, or very near, a Market or Bazarre zone, which they say should replace EC etc because of how easy it will be to get there from just about anywhere else. I assume you can visit other zones from there as well.

So, there will be one pretty easy transport that doesn't require waiting, begging, and paying.

Good luck to you all.

Vah Shir Class
# Aug 25 2001 at 5:33 PM Rating: Default
Ok, so the Vah Shir will be Bards, Beastlords, Rogues, Shaman, and Warriors. I wouldn't mind seeing them being Clerics. I mean, for a while it'll just be the Vah Shir running around Luclin, without the help of any other race and their classes. They'll need some better healers to help them out. I mean, Shaman are good but still, all groups need a good Cleric =) And maybe a wizard, their wouldn't be very many nuckers either. Plus, the Vah Shir will need a way off of Luclin and onto Norrath, other then from other races porting to luclin and taking them back, and they shouldn't be druids, I don't think they're civilized enough for that. But, anyway, I think the Vah Shir race and their classes are going to be kewl. The beast lord class sounds awsome, I've even heard that Barbarians will be able to be Beastlords, too. But I'm not sure on this.
RE: Vah Shir Class
# Aug 25 2001 at 10:36 PM Rating: Default
Barbs unfortunately won't be beastlords, but the Iksar will be from what i've heard from VI Reps. And there will be a way to get to and from Luclin without a port from a wiz or a druid. Beastlords will prob end up with healing like the clerics due to the fact that the races that can be one for sure don't have clerics, =). Hope this helps any1 who was interested.
RE: Vah Shir Class
# Aug 26 2001 at 1:09 AM Rating: Default
Ehhh no, Barbs can be Beastlord. A hex Editer has checked the Testeverquest.exe and anyone who can be a Shaman can be a Beastlord.
Beastlords
# Aug 25 2001 at 9:25 AM Rating: Default
From what I see the spells for the Beastlords are pretty lame..But i might be mistaken...Guess we will have to see when they come out...Im most likely gonna be a Shammie..Either way it will be interesting
kitty bard???
# Aug 25 2001 at 6:05 AM Rating: Decent
I was messing around in Qeynos the other day and was bored so i did the shawl of the wind spirit quest (or something like that) the result is a bard only shawl (AC1 VsCOLD 2)
the shawl sucks BUT it has the racial tag of VAH on it. Im thinking that the kittys can be bards. It might be a mistake on Verents part but if it not well...COOL!!!!
***** beastlords im making a cat bard!!!

Classes and Skillz
# Aug 24 2001 at 11:54 PM Rating: Default
The classes here could vary greatly but the most likely of them are warriors, rogues, Beastlord-duh, and shamans. I don't think there will me a lot to choose from, just look at Iksars, they got the shaft when choosing classes-Necro, War, SK, Monk, Shm. One thing is certain-they most likely don't have perm sow or anything like that, BUT they will have a high base agility-kinda like an Erudites Int- which will make them run faster than most people. As far as skills go, they will prob have hide, sneak, forage, and "catvision" and most likely an exp penalty-if they still exist- and an ac bonus--because they ARE limited to what they can wear.

Expect lots of peeps to start a Char this race-
And don't forget about ultra high prices for new items-HarHar

Just my two cents...
RE: Classes and Skillz
# Aug 25 2001 at 10:40 PM Rating: Default
Hehe, agi has nothing to do with speed, only dodging nme attacks. But as far as limit on what they wear, they can wear most medium or large armors from what i've seen ingame. It will be interesting to see if they will have a penalty due to the fact they are a new race, along the same lines as the iksar, but they may have a bonus bc they are going to be more segregated from the world, bc the erudites are the main magik users and they sent em to Luclin in the first place. Oh well, if any1 knows something that i don't please post it, i'd like to know as well. =) GL everyone.

Higher agi doesnt make you run faster... Durp
RE: Hey madskillz boy...
# Sep 10 2001 at 4:54 AM Rating: Default
What makes you so sure that agi doesn't effect movement rate? I have an iksar monk with an agi pushing 140, and i outdistance everyone I group with. Perhaps it's because I keep my weight down, but I'd like to know why you think agi isn't a factor.

Do you people even read what VI puts out?

http://everquest.station.sony.com/luclin/faq.jsp

3.2 What classes can the Vah Shir be?

While still subject to modification, we plan to allow the Vah Shir to be warriors, rogues, shamans, beastlords, and bards.

The Vah Shir can be 5 classes and none of the 5 is monk.

what I wanna know is:

One day on Kerra Isle I was taking alittle trip, when I came onto the story teller, he told me about the Vah Shir, and how Erudites SCREWED them over. In his story he says "In tradition the Females have the muscle and the mana. And the males have the Agility and yatta yatta yatta". Well he said most that

So do the Females get to be Warriors and Casters and the Male kittys get to be Rouges and Bards? It seems unfair to the males.

are you ppl forgetting bards/druids/shamans even rangers can sow themselves and this almost being the same as a "built- in sow" even INDOOR when they cast it outside and zone in?
bards are faster then sow even..
i mean.. we already have a BUILT IN sow system right under our NOSES
lol oh well..
i think we'll get cat rogue/shm/monk/war/mage/chanter or something like that mayb even necro/sk for the evil ones and pally/clr for the good ones? who knows.. let's just wait and see for the final result
All this perma-SoW business
# Aug 24 2001 at 10:01 AM Rating: Default

There is no way Verant will make the race have SoW permenantly. Ogres don't have perma-snare, even though they're so big and fat :p no offense you ogres out there. If they did, ogres would have no chance in melee situations. Opposite for perma-SoW, the cats could take on anything (non-caster) and have a 100% chance of getting away if
things went wrong.
If my 35th Halfling War had perma-SoW, she'd be 50 by now.

It WOULD unbalance the game at lower levels because Wah Shir class death rate would only be a small percentage of the same classes of other races.

If you want to move faster, put your points in AGI, the Vah Shir might have high base AGI anyways as I understand it.

If not, do like the rest of us, find one of the many kind hearted druids and shamen (rangers are a little sketchy ;) scattered throughout the servers and ask for 10 seconds of their time and ... 30? points of mana.

GOod luck.

Think about it, the come form a different planet (moon)So woulnt it make sense that they have adapted to like on the moon. Maybe when you bring them to norrath they will run VERY slowly because they cant adapt to gravity. Sure they cats, give them ultravison and high ATK rate but with low STR. If it was a dog give them a low ATK rate and a very high STR, make sense... i though so

Why I truly hope the Vah Shir are not like my cats
# Aug 23 2001 at 9:45 AM Rating: Excellent
I love my 3 cats, I really do, but if the Vah Shir are anything like them, they will simply be the most annoying race ever. Here's why:

1. All the furniture in Norrath will be ruined.
2. The landscape will be littered with unused Vah Shir toys.
3. All the Vah Shir, suddenly and for no discernible reason, will run into the other room at full speed.
4. Any time a Vah Shir goes to Butcherblock it WILL be sprayed by a skunk. (Although brewers will make a killing on Tomato Juice)
5. Your Vah Shir healer will disappear for days and come back with an unknown substance stuck in its' fur.
6. Anyone trying to meditate will suddenly find a Vah Shir between them and their Spellbook.
7. Anytime you open a door, Vah Shir will run as fast as they can through it in an attempt to get out.
8. Any of us with Vah Shir friends will receive dead things as tokens of love and affection. (The Necromancers will find this 'cute')

Anyhow, I have way too much free time at work when the server is down.

LOL my cats do that stuff all the time! This is one of the best posts I've seen in a while, it was hilarious! Vah Shir enemies, however, would most likely be very easy to defeat because:

(1) 9 times out of 10 you'll happen upon them sleeping on their back.

(2) Anyone with the Kick ability could get the jump on a Vah Shir by waiting until it decides to rub against their leg.

(3) All you'd have to do is step on its tail by accident and it would start to run away. (this has been accidentally tested numerous times in my house)

(4) You could sneak up on one easily while it was deciding whether or not to come inside, while its owner holds the door open for 10 minutes.

However, once in melee, a Vah Shir would be quite a deadly opponent. For instance:

(1) Anyone who sits down will immediately be sat on by the Vah Shir, causing a stun effect and hitting 10 times a second (for 1 damage per hit)
The stun effect is permanent, at least until the Vah Shir wakes up and has to go to the bathroom, at which point it will immediately get off the victim's lap.

(2) Casters will be unable to meditate as the Vah Shir will immediately sit on their spellbooks.

(3) Vah Shir have a 2 out of 3 chance of knocking something over every 10 seconds. Anyone within a 10 foot radius of the Vah Shir will be incapacitated for 3 seconds as they stop to pick it up. Additionally, every minute, a Vah Shir has a 2 out of 3 chance of throwing up, causing everyone within a 15 foot radius to be incapacited for 30 seconds as they go get a paper towel to clean it up. If no paper towels are available, the vomit acts as an AoE DoT that hits everyone in a 15 foot radius for 20 points of nausea damage every 2 seconds. This effect will last until the Vah Shir decides to give the puke another try, and eats it.

just adding something important and it's only one thing.

1. Everyone will get easily bored with their Vah shir character because no matter what they try to do with it, it will just sleep and not move.

On the other hand...think of the gargantuan, epic battles between the cats and the Gnoll / Cobold communities of Norath. let the furr fly.
Aviaks would be in deep trouble as well, tho running through Kith forest at day would proove wayyyy too distracting for the Vah Shir ,just look at all those flying Bixies just begging to be pounced uppon.

Lets add a few things.
Vah Shir would make Bad warrior's because.
1) with the need to kill many things as quickly as possible. It would be bad for a Vah Shir warrior because they would want to play with there pull first.
2) Every 3rd Pull or tanking would find the Vah Shir warrior laying on his back in a sunny spot.
3)the Vah Shir warrior would have a very low AC compared to other warriors.. All that armor makes it hard to clean with the toung.

Oh Oh Oh.. Vah Shir Fien Death... called "Nap" and acts as Snare for all mobs (and players) moving through that area.

Why Vah Shir would make a good shaman.
1) after spending 20 min Buffing the party.. The Vah Shir shaman could curl up and take a quick nap.
2) Aggro would be nominal even for debuffed and dotted mobs. After all.. Who could Tripple 200 that cute widdow fuzzy face.

Add these to the list of Vah Doom!

1. Vah Shirs will have names like Wiggle Tiggle, Kitty Wittie, and other such baby names.

2. Most of the time Vah Shir beggers will be begging for a belly rub

3. Healers will constantly heal Vah Shirs when they yell "MEOW".

4. Just think, a Barbarian sized Kitty, you will need a bigger couch.

5. I hope some of the Vah Shirs skins come in Persian.

lets just hope the enemy is a mouse or Hamster named Snowball, who will just vanish with out a trace for three days, then find them under the rug in Qeynos

Just add to this:

1) Vah Shir will make great Tailors, as they will have the ability to 'cough up' furballs, which could probably used in Tailoring something.

2) Vah Shir will also not do well in groups as they would be pron to simply wander off during combat or to simply stare indifferently as the party gets killed off.

3) Expect to see Vah Shir Bards have the ability to weaken all in a zone simply causing sleep deprevation from their singing.

4) I pity the poor halfling that a Vah Shir desides to lay across to get it's belly scratched.
Team?

I don't know if I'm just missing it or something, but I can't seem to find someplace that says what team the Vah Shir will be on on the pvp teams servers (i play on Tallon Zek). Does anyone know?
RE: Team?
# Aug 24 2001 at 8:53 PM Rating: Decent
Ok because of their big size, not the Shorts, and their not Elfs, but Humans seem the most far apart, culture wise, and besides evils, so I would guess the Humans will get the kittys.

Verant recently stated that on the moon of Luclin there is a dark side inhabited by good, and a dark side inhabited by evils. They also said that the Vah Shir is living on the dark side of the moon, thus making them good alligned.

I notice we have 2 evil large races. and only one medium evil race.. making this a good race will even out the large races a bit.

and why are there no SMALL evils??
Vah Shir character models
# Aug 22 2001 at 8:20 PM Rating: Decent
I personally hope that Verant offers models for Vah Shir characters with different markings like real-life cats. Skins like Tiger, leopard, or even ones like calico or tabby would be a great looking way to personalize your character.
On a more disturbing note, Given Verant's tendency for over-endowing it's female character models, I wonder if female Vah Shir will have eight oversized breasts...
RE: Vah Shir character models
# Aug 23 2001 at 4:42 PM Rating: Default
Everytime a pic of Firiona comes out, I cringe wondering what size boobs they put on her this time... each new picture puts bigger ones on her.

And anyone else noticed that they're not releasing shots of the new *female* models? The only one out so far is of the high elf, and I'm sorry, but her face isn't very attractive in most shots and I think her boobs make up half her body weight. Wonder what they'll do to my poor wood elf. <cry>

Ah well, more reason to see what DAOC is like in a couple months :)

Let's Not Get too Upset...
# Aug 22 2001 at 4:58 PM Rating: Default
Isn't it a little early to assume what the Vah Shir have or have not? Sure, it's fun to guess and say what we would like to see but I don't think its worth getting upset over.

Safefall would be neat, and it is a useful little ability. Many a times following a rogue friend have I taken unnecessary damage along the way because she could go unharmed where my druid could not. If they have innate sow then that would be interesting, tho I don't think that the cat people are going to have spirit of the wolf. If they just move faster then okay, I still don't see how it will unbalance them.

Ultravision would make sense, since cats do have great night vision.

Personally I would like to see special little emotes for them. that'd be fun. :)
RE: Let's Not Get too Upset...

Maybe not a perm-sow condition, but something that is like backstab or track..and inherent ability but limites to short bursts of speed...and unable to be used again for a period of time
Safe Fall
# Aug 22 2001 at 4:40 PM Rating: Decent
Safe Fall wouldn't be too bad actually. If there are zones in SoL like Velketor, then safe fall could save you from death.

Quit crying! If the Vah Shir do get permanent SoW then so what, you like anyone else that buys the expansion will have the ability to create and play one of those "unfair" ability having races. When the Iksar 1st came out all I heard was how unfair it was that they have awesome regen and forage. Well I personally was interested in that and started an iksar instead of crying about it and played one up to his present lvl of 52. Many found out that the addition of forage and the regen wasnt all it was cracked up to be and not as unfair as all cried it would be. Same will happen here, a bunch of you whiners will start a Vah Shir and play it to about 12-15 then go back to whatever lame characters you presently play. /em hands you all a tissue to wipe ya tears off.
RE: i agree
# Aug 23 2001 at 6:35 PM Rating: Decent
Maybe I'm wrong, but you say that safefall and ultravision don't circumvent damage. What happens when you fall off a cliff WITHOUT safefall? BAM! Damage from falling. Who gives a crap about whether they get SoW? If you can't beat them, join them. Why is everyone wanting the new expansion nerfed before it even gets here?
You're insane.
# Aug 22 2001 at 7:32 PM Rating: Good
You're equating forage and regen to increased movement? That's ridiculous; they're on entirely different levels.

If Iksar had to take such a massive faction hit for their abilities, Vah'Shir would end up with a 50%-ish exp penalty for what you're suggesting.

Berries and +3 hp are NOTHING compared to the ability to constantly outrun mobs, ESPECIALLY INDOORS. It's ludicrous that people are even debating the addition of permanent SoW for a race. If you'd really played any class to 52, you would know by now that Verant never has and never will dole out anything that helpful.

Too much wishful thinking going on here, not enough realistic debate.

Ultravision and safe fall *are* likely abilities of the race, both because they do not circumvent damage and because they fit with the character. Maybe we should just randomly suggest that they have permanent levitate, water-breathing, and see-invisible, eh?
And you're bitchy!
# Aug 25 2001 at 10:50 PM Rating: Default
Because someone was saying something about how people were acting when the Iksar came out doesn't require you to go into ***** mode, she stated something that is totally true. So you said your point but don't flame someone else to do it.
stop crying
