The weapons master in the warrior guild talks about a training grounds outside the city walls on the west side. I have tried to interact with the NPCs with no avail. My question is, "Is there anything with this training ground to begin with". If so how do you get going. If not then why sell practice weapons.

I think this would be cool to be able to practice your melee skills with out the dangers of real combat. Casters can just cast spells repetitively to increase their skill lvls without even being in combat. Why can't melee do the same?

The only thing outside the city walls on any side is the pit. I think that is the training grounds refered to.

As for casters and training: remember casters are wimps. They don't have the HP to stand up to real melee combat. They need the extra help. I have heard several of my caster friends complain how boring it is having to spend all that online time working on skilling up a casting skill until it is reliable enough for combat. So, casters are not getting any real break.

No, I am not referring to the pit. If you follow the city walls without going down into the pit, there is a Khala Dun training area at loc 0, 650. This is the area that the Weapons Master in the Warrior Guild is referring to.

RE: help

Vah Shir are either indifferent or apprehensive from the start in all cities across Luclin and Norrath with a few exceptions:

-Bouncers in Oggok (Antonica) are threatening cons by default, while most other ogres near or in the city are dubious and will not attack.

-All Cabilis (Kunark) factions start out threatening to any race-class combination other than Iksar characters (obviously).

-Neriak (Antonica) guards will attack you on site without faction work.

-Grobb (Antonica) guards and citizens will likely attack you, while the Frogloks of Guk will start out indifferent or apprehensive (only the living ones, the undead frogloks are from my experience very agressive).

-Overthere (Kunark) guards and dragoons will attack you on site.

-Kael Drakkal (Velious) guards and all giant inhabitants will attack you on site.

-The heretics of Paineel (Odus) will attack you on site, but most of them are green cons by the mid 40s and will not attack you unless you are sitting.

Hope this info helps you, good luck and safe travels Smiley: smile

Heretics of Paineel do NOT attack Vah Shir.
First time I went there I was level 17 and didnt do any faction work on Heretics and they conned better than threateningly.

And another little point: sorry if I'm a pain in the *** but I can't help: it's "attack on sight", not "attack on site". Hope none of you will mind this :)

In my experience, Shar Vahl is very money-light as loot goes, but there are several quests around, if you know where to look. Check out the palace kitchens, talk to the cooks about beetle claw stew and worm meat. Those both get more money than just selling the annoying claws and worm meats, and sometimes you get a claw which you can sell for gold. Likewise, help the little tiger girl get back to her home, for money, faction, and a compass that sells for plat.

If you really need money, have the Planes expansion and go to Qeynos via the Plane of Knowledge. (Fortunately, that's default for the Mac server. Whew.) Return and sell to Chialle - you get more money that way, because she is a sweetie.

As far as quests go, there are a lot in Shar Vahl. Hail every NPC - a lot of them have things for people to do.

i think the reason they are lessening is becasue there are the mose difficult class being a mixture off each type meele/casting/healer and such... and also the sort of constant bickering of newbies asking for buffs which is not that bad unless there areound 20 people around you asking for sow or somthing... if i where you i'ed get an enchanter sit around all day and clarity II you... most of the time shamans are spearing but i would choose crushing form the wide variety of weapons except that spear quest that only shaman's can use or do (most of the spears are in a large variety too.. but 2 handed spearing is awesome) goodluck

i belive that if he is high enough the bonus exp lowers by a constant continuall rate... he probably wouldn't be able to afford an exp boosting item if there is any in existince... i belive stylmeann styles told me that one... my best estimate for you is to try unrest till about 15 then try wrath mountians.. they are quite an area but do not drop ringmail for a good usage like the dark bones in unrest so if you want to colect some go on ahead... but you'll have to change at around 24 which is quite expensive i don't know about you but your class and race combination really matters the most about the rest of characters living exp loss/gain time point and alternitave... not a meele type joining you like a purecaster/healer would be nice like a necro considering they are casters but can kill themselves to heal others (not ultimate sacrifice though) oh and one thing... dont right click on those batons that mages summon... it's lowers around 200 health for mana.. kills instantly

Either bridge is fine, so long as you are on the far side of it (next to the tunnel to Shadeweaver's or Hollowshade). Just hug the wall as you go down, and you'll be great.

Getting up, point your nose straight up and climb that wall. Sometimes you may need to jump up onto the bridge, depending on which side of which bridge you're next to.

Go across the south bridge. At the guards on the opposite end of the bridge from the city go left onto the crater rim/wall. You can then climb down from there.

Ok so I don't see many people playing a vah Shir shaman. I am hoping this is just because the luclin add-on hasn't been out for as long as the others cause i decided to make a vah Shir Shaman. I am lvl 5 and I am having a hard time solo'ing. What area and or what creatures would be the best for me to kill in order to lvl. Also are there any quests in Shar Vahl that will help me lvl and\or get some good gear?
RE: Vah Shir Shaman

I feel your pain. The first thing that all Vah Shir should do, regardless of class, is get the hell out of Hollowshade and Shadoweavers asap.

My recommedation is Everfrost and Blackburrow. Those areas offer a great deal of non-stop action (not to mention a better chance of groups. ST and HM never seem to have anybody there) and exp. Then move back up to Paludal for the Recondite camps and Fiends. They give up some decent loot for the level... that and the exp bonus is fantastic.

On top of that, you get to play one of the most interesting looking classes in game. I'm biased of course =)

This quest will ultimately lead to a nice AC 15 tunic. Damn nice piece for a newbie shaman (or any other class for that matter). And you can do it at your level.

Most folks playing Vah Shir seems to like warriors and beastlords. I have a 22 Vah Shir bard. I have a kitty shaman created but have not really played him yet. My main is a 46 rogue and I am focusing on him lately.

Eqtraders site has a whole list of quests for Vah Shir shamans and other classes. Each class of Vah Shir seems to focus on a particular tradeskill as well. I believe that shaman's focus on brewing. You may want to check out the listings there as they are pretty well written up and I don't know if Allakhazam has them all posted yet. Of course Allakhazam does have some quests here that they don't have either so best to check both sites.

It depends. First off, below level 25 you won't get off Luclin unless a friendly Wizard or Druid ports you. Or you can find someone willing to invis you and escort your thru Paludal Caverns.

If you stay on Luclin you are in good shape since the zones around Shar Val are pretty good all the way up to your low 30's (1-5 Shar Val pit, 5-10 Shadeweavers Thicket near city, 11-25 Shadeweavers Thicket further out or Paludal Caverns Shar Val side, 20-35 Hollowshade Moore or Paludal Caverns).

If you leave Luclin before level 20 then your best bet,IMHO, is the zones around Freeport or Greater Feydark. But as a BL you will have trouble finding training. So, moving to Everfrost Peaks might be a better choice for you. Then you can also hunt Blackburrow.
RE: Where should i go?
# Sep 30 2002 at 2:14 AM Rating: Decent
IMO Paludal Caverns is one of the best zones on the moon, you can gain lvls like crazy over there, I've gone from like lvl 15 to 25 in a couple of weeks in that zone. If you get past all the pharlg fiends in this zone (I got out with the help of a shammy via invis) then you'll be safely on your way to the Nexus.

Wisdom is paramount for a BL. Your mana is based on that. After that, its up to you. STA for more HP, AGI for better defensive skills or STR for more melee damage (and more carrying capacity).
RE: Are Vah Shir considered a large race?
# Feb 16 2003 at 5:25 AM Rating: Decent
I have a level 55 Warrior Vah Shir and I have bash just FYI. But slam would be nice because when do you really use a shield as a MT? I am either using 2hs or 2 1hs... no room for a shield here! We do get shafted with certain things that the trolls, barbs, and ogres get but then again we have safe fall =) I seem to hold my own in a group as the MT but the HP bonus would be nice. One thing that really bothers me is that we are from a new world and our "life" quests are geared toward tradeskills and our cloaks give us additions to our tradeskills yet we have nothing cultured. Even with the new resources of the moon we live on and our entirly different culture one would think we would have some pretty interesting armor or weapons. We get Shadowscream which involves 250 in smithing and the stats are lower than the newbie armor you get from Shar Vahl plus anyone can make it. According to the Vah Shir lore we do worship a god in a sense so why are we agnostic? There was alot more VI could have done with Vah Shir and I can see how the frog race wouldnt have anything particuarly new because they are from Norrath. We arent.

I play a Vah Shir Beastlord as an alt. I know the Vah Shir, as a race, have the innate ability to sneak, but my question is if this is hard capped and unraiseable. I've been trying to get a skill up in it since I was level 1, now at level 17 I have yet to see one skill up. Anyone know what the skill is hard set at, if it is?

Sneak is hard capped (at 40 I think) for Vah Shir unless your class has the Sneak skill at a higher cap. Even then, you cannot raise the sneak skill above 40 until 1) your class actually acquires the sneak skill and 2) your level allows for you to break the skill cap. Most skills, like sneak, have level caps equal to 5 + your level x 5. So, assuming your class has sneak skill by level 17 your cap would be 90. If sneak is not a class skill or you just have not reached the level where your class would acquire sneak then your cap is 40.

Follow up. Sneak for all Vah Shir is capped at 50 unless you have it as a class skill. Then you can only go over 50 when your level*5+5 is greater than 50 (level 10) and you have reached the necessary level to learn Sneak for your class.

Vah Shir are considered a good race so the evil races will be KOS to you. Iksar are KOS to everybody - got to love their way of not descriminating :-) If you are not for the Iksar you are food.

Now, that does not mean you cannot build faction with any race. It just takes time. And often building faction with one means losing faction with another.

So far, in my Vah Shir bard's adventures in Norrath I am apprehensive to indifferent in Qeynos, Freeport, Shadow Haven, and High Pass. Most of the merchants in the Karanas feel the same way. Gnolls were actually apprehensive and not KOS (I fixed that problem right away). The few barbarians I came across seem to like me (that may be due to my fix of the gnoll faction issue).

Of course I am a bard so faction is not ususally and issue. Bards have faction boosting songs and there is always Sneak skill.

You get the ability to summon your warder (pet) at level 9. The pet you summon depends upon your race:

Barbarian - White Wolf
Iksar - Scaled Wolf
Ogre - Bear
Troll - Alligator
Vah Shir - Tiger

Yes, the pets do fight. Most of your best spells are all about keeping your warder buffed and in the fight. More Beastlord info for you is at: Casters Realm -- Beastlord Information or at: EQ Beastlord

Good luck.

The problem is I go out into Hollowsade Moor and there are no owlbear cubs for the fatty owlbear meat, I have petioned the GM with no avail. The cubs you are referring to are 4 in the cave (at full spawn, usually 3 pop for some reason and the 4th doesnt). This is the sequence of paths you take from Shadeweaver's thicket to get to them (this way you are not kos to the fiends btw)- Left tunnel in big cave with pool
Stay straight past two lefts
Stay straight past the right.

If evrything is populated with Grimlings, you need to kill the prince for the war to come to and end. But if the grimlings are in control, it is most likely because sombody helped them gain control of the Owlbear caves, for some purpose. When the war is not in this stage, the cubs are abundant around the owlbear caves.

Here is an idea from one Vah Shir bard to another - take the 450p and get a magic weapon you can use. Get up to level 11 and start hunting willowisps in West Commons. Take all the greater lightstones you loot to Myrsella (?) the Gypsy in North Karana. I usually wait till I have a backpack full. Selo's with a normal drum will allow you to outrun anything that aggro's on you. Give them, one at a time to her, and she will give you a Concordance of Research (LORE) that you can sell back to her for 8-9pp each. I made over 200pp that way so far and I got experience up to level 15. Then I moved to North Karana and hunted willowisps and beetles there.

Another hint, kill snakes and loot the venom sacs - asp or snake does not matter. Find a rogue over level 22 and offer to sell them the sacs. They are a basic poison ingredient. Forget spider venom. The poison it makes is not worth the cost of the other materials.

Both ways get you lots of experience and lots of loot so you can buy more plate.

Truth is, if you want cash as a newbie you won't get it on Luclin.

RE: Hiya All !
# Jul 12 2002 at 2:37 PM Rating: Decent
good idea. I may try that with my Vah Shir (but there is just one correction I would like to point out... the concordance of research is NOT lore... I used to turn in 4 at a time with my ranger... unless they patched it to be lore recently)
Tradeskills for Kitties

I'm working on two cats right now - a beastlord (level 6) and a bard (level 2). I am also a newbie to the game (I've been playing DAoC since October and just started in EQ a week ago).

After spending 3 days trying to make my beastlord handwraps (and failing 3 or 4 times), I really don't want to look at another Xakra larvae or silkworm, so I'd like to raise my tailoring high enough that I have a good chance of making the claws themselves on the first try, but I have NO idea how to do that. Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to gain skills? I've already put enough practices in to raise my tailoring above 20, but I don't know for sure by how much. If I have to guess, I'd say it's no more than 23-25 at this point.

I'd also be interested in knowing how to raise my pottery skills so that when my bard is ready to start making things as part of her quests, I'll have a decent chance of not failing :)

Thank you all for your patience and your help!
RE: Tradeskills for Kitties
# May 15 2002 at 3:17 PM Rating: Decent
I suggest you check your skill level again. Combining Shadeling silk becomes trivial at 15, after that you will not advance in the skill(it will tell you this when you make a successful combine at that skill level). If you want to advance your tailoring, kill the hoppers and make cheap armor with the damaged hopper hides. This will bring your tailoring skill up. Tailoring does take some time. I brought up my tailoring skill this way, and it took me twice with each stage of tailoring for the claws. I have been doing a lot of tailoring, presently working on making shade silk armor, and I am only at a skill level of 34.

Another idea is when you get tayloring to 40+ area you should be about lvl 20 - 25 area go to Marus Seru and kill Grey Hoppers. Maks Pattern and Grey hopper hide = Grey Hopper Armor. that will take you up to 80+.

I think that Vah Shir should have new classes, not necessarily SK's, but maybe druids. We are cat people, so one could assume that druids, which base most, if not all of their beings on nature. cats are animals, animals are in nature. its like 2+2 lol.

The Vah Shir are considered a "primitive" race like Barbarians, Trolls, Iksar and Ogres so you're not likely to see Druids. If, at some point in the future, the Vah Shir become corrupted you may see Shadow Knights. They don't really have the intelligence to make good Necromancers. You might also see Paladins introduced. But I doubt VI will do more than what is currently available. The Vah Shir are furry Barbarians. That's about it.

I resent that remark. lol The Vah Shir are more than just furry Barbarians. I don't see any Barbarian Bards running around.

if Vah Shir are furry barbarians, who would win in a fight? a vah shir warrior or a barbarian warrior? :-p

First of all barbarians do not necessarily get sneak or safe fall unless its a class specific skill. Even then the Vah Shir starting skill is higher in Safe Fall than the max Rogue Safe Fall skill. So if you must PvP a barbarian as a Vah Shir I suggest kiting him/her in the mountains. Barbarians don't bounce as well as a Vah Shir.

BTW, Vah Shir look much better in stripes. Plaid is just so '60s.

I hate to point out the obvious, but you are wrong in the fact of the safe fall. Being a Vah Shir you automatically get the safe fall which starts out higher then any other race.
He was not talking about the Vah Shir Rogue's he was talking about the other race's rogue's. Pointedly the Barbarian ones.
All races EXCEPT for Vah Shir max out at 50.

One of the disadvantages of the Vah Shir is the doubled rate of food and drink consumption. One way to easily avoid this is by collecting Chunk of Meat. I know it sounds unappetizing but Chunk of Meat is a meal and you can loot it off most animal MOBs. So, its free.

If you like, take up fishing. Bait is cheap. Fish are a meal. Any junk you pull in can be sold to cover the cost of bait. The disadvantage is that fishing takes time.

Later on, try taking up baking skill. You can make longer lasting meals very cheaply that way. Some meals have stat buffs that have long durations.

In Shadeweavers Thicket there are trees with bright blue or purplish leaves(there are a few near the merchants pavilion north of the bank). Look for little blue dots on the ground under these trees. This is also free food. You do need to buy your own water though(or milk if you prefer).
