The Iksar

race logoThe Iksar starts off in Cabilis in the continent of Kunark. Iksar are killed on sight by every other race in Norrath. What is the best strategy for playing a Iksar? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? How can you safely play your Iksar beyond Kunark? What are the best quests for the beginning Iksar? Where are the best shops? How should you role play your Iksar?

Post your strategies on how to best play a Iksar, and read, rate and comment on those posted by others.

I took my Iksar monk to CB in the early stages. I did not get enough faction killing Orcs to stroll into Kelethin or Kaladim so I had to truck to PoK to sell. You ruin faction with the Dark Elf Warriors but I have no plans to visit Neriak any time soon.
If you are level 5 and want to hunt around Orc Hill, just be sure to not get too close to the Kelethin guards. Obviously you cannot run to them for protection either! There is also a high-level NPC woodelf ranger who sometimes spawns in this area not to mention the fairies that will attack you too.
Avenues of escape are limited to zoning into CB and hope nobody trained the throne room to the entrance. The guards outside CB could pose a problem for a low level monk, but these are often hunted and the way is usually clear.
One benefit is that CB is considered an outdoor dungeon with xp bonus. Also finding a group is usually easy. Tends to be crowded at times though. Loot for a low level is ok although you wont have the option of turning in belts and pads in Kaladim.

Depends on yer server, these days CB is a ghost town on E-Marr Server. But the XP is decent, just keep a few SOW potions on ya so you cna run to and from the PoK book without too many orcs chasin ya down.

I have a Iksar Necro, and I want to know how to get my faction up so i won't die on sight from guards/merchants. I don't really like the hometown I'm in, but I don't want to get stuck somewhere where I'm going to die.

Can someone help me with how to get faction up, and where I could go?

Addendum. I see you are a necro, So you would probably want access to a trainer in some city.

Neriak: Once the guards like you, kill the
arcane casters in Nektulos Forest. The Neriak
necros/sks will eventually like you.

Qeynos Underground: Kill Rodcet Initiates in Nektulos. Bloodsabers are hard to raise.

Freeport Underground: Tough since there is a DE
cleric ther who will KoS you. FD working yet?

Ak Anon: They have a evil section apart from the good so may be doable once the guards like you.
You would need to kill the good NPCs in Steamfont.
and ther are not many. Guards qualify but then you would be undoing needed faction.

Ogguck would seem too hard. Also in Neriak stay away from the Trolls.

Paineel might be easiest. Kill kobalds in the warrens.

i know im responding to an old post..but bloodsabers are ALOT easier to raise then ya think heh.. my ogre is max kos with everything but merchants and bloodsabers ..kindly to merchants max ally with bloodsabers.. there is a pally (i think) in blackburrow .. then there is a pally and a cleric in Nqeynos . kill them several times and ur bloodsabers skyrockets .. (i love being able to sit in grimrots camp LOL)

One more item I have learned from visiting Qeynos. There is a Lieutenant Dagarok who patrols around the Monk Guild who is on Corrupt Qeynos Guard faction. He was KoS to me until I handed Guard Shilster 2000gp in gold 5gp at a time for Blackburrow Stout. I went from scowling to dubious. You then have to kill a bunch more gnolls in BB to adjust faction loss with the regular guards in Qeynos.

Which city?

Just remember, there may be several factions associated with each city. Raising one, say
the guards (most important) does not automatically effect any others, say the clerics
(usually the hardest to raise).

For Qeynos, kill blackburrow gnolls. Takes days
and that will only effect guards and monks.

For Freeport you have several factions to worry about. Start with W. Freep militia. To do that
you need to be non KoS in Highpass (I know weird).
Kill Orcs in HPH till non KoS then turn in Orc scalps to raise Militia (4 backpacks full should make you non KoS to Milita) Forget about raising
W Freep casters' faction. Raise Monks and N Freep Guards by Killin Deathfists in EC WC NRo and Nektulos. Also Misty Thicket but you wont get there too easy. This will also give faction for the Halfling guards.

You should be able to bank in Freeport. Just don't go down any streets near the Clerics in
N Freep or the Casters in W. Freep. Stay away from the underground casters too because there is
a DE cleric there who is KoS to you.

Rivervale might be doable same way. Also kill
goblins in Butcherblock

Kelethin? Haven't done this. You kill CB orcs but you will trash DE warrior faction. Not a problem even if you get into Neriak though. Just aviod the Warrior guild and a few NPCs inside.

Felwithe guards are same as Kelethin guards but
they have their own Pally/Cleric factions inside.

Kaladim? CB Orcs and BB bandits.

Neriak? Sneak turn-in 1000 lightstones to the
gypsies in S Ro. You will get Neriak Guards/Merchants to like you eventually.

Erudin (Paineel too)? Kill kobalds in the warrens.

Ak Anon? Kill minos in Steamfont

Halas? dunno....

You are safe in Shadow Haven, just do the Traders of the Haven quest a few times to get better prices.

Shar Val? Kitties are Kool.
Netherbian Lair Marus Seru guards are ok.
Don't go into Sanctus Seru.

Thurgadin is cool (pun intended).

Gukta? You are Iksar, why would you want to go there?

Ogguk? I would say nearly impossible for Iksar unless you sneak in and turn several thousand armadillo husks to the exterminator. And thats
just for the guards. Warriors/Shaman/Sks all have their own factions.

The Overthere and Firiona Vie are run by
even more xenophobic softskins than the mainland.

Whats wrong with Cabilis anyway? Lots of vein
worms to eat and practically no softskin trash
to trip over.

Illusion potions make this more doable than it once was:

200+ braids later and I am dubious to the Overthere outpost. It may have needed less but I went and got a Charassis key (oops bad Venril Sathir faction hits along the way). As a beastlord having the Worker's Sledgemallet (procs gate to Overthere) is worth the sarnak hunting.

Iksar Necros are great. You need some Int gear, but, with faction being a non issue the Iksar with standing regen, and better sitting regen is a great choice.

Kurns at low levels is a great romp. Do the Skull of Torture quest. Make sure you start your Iksar Skullcap prograssive quest, even if you dont wear it, at higher levels a clicky is handy!

i am a vah shir beastlord, and i have gotten to lvl 66. and if i wouldnt loose all my ubah gear i have aquired ithink i would remake as a iksar. the iksars AC bonus will help alot since all BSTS can wear is leather armor so u will have more AC then any other race, and the regen is just an added bonus. yes you are KoS but in these times of PoK and such u dont need to worry about faction any. as for epic, the beastlord epic is mostly based around shar vahl(kitty town) and everyone is indifferently there so the epic should be just as easy for you as it was/is for everyone else.

Ikky Shaman ehhh? Excellent choice! Honestly prob the best race for a shaman. Highest wis, advanced regen, and the AC bonus make for one mean Shaman. Focus on raising your wis, dex, str, and agi at first. Because with advanced regen, slow, some good gear and a procing weap you should be able to melee most mobs into the ground at low lvls while taking minimal damage. After 29 you will have your regen and haste spells which will definitely make you a mob killing machine.

By 49 you should have all most of your melee stats maxed with decent gear and your spells, after that it's just filling in the blanks of what stats you want to focus on maxing.

If you have the plat for it some of better gear for hard to upgrade slots is

Wrist x2 Arctic Wyvern Wristbands

Leggs Arctic Wyvern Leggings

Chest Ceremonial Iksar Chestplate WORN Regeneration which stacks with all other regen spells.

Fingers x2 Black Pearl Velium Ring for meleeing or x2 Velium Jasper Ring for casting

Ear x2 Forest Loop

obviously there's other items out there but for the price and stats you'll have a hard time upgrading those slots inexpensively, excluding the Iksar BP, and they should last ya till 50's+ when u can start looking at No Drop or high end items.

I was very frustrated with my first character a Wood Elf Ranger got to LVL 42 and wasnt happy. I created an Iskar Shaman with the advice from a buddy of mine. WOW. I was so surprised. I tanked better than most Melee Classes I grouped with in CB. I was bailing them out of trains all the time. And surviving it. I love the Shammy Class. Great heals, awsome buffs, natual regen, and high AC. Best advice I ever received

# Dec 07 2003 at 1:04 AM Rating: Decent
I must sat. out of all of the questions of who is the best IKSAR class? i must say it is the SHAMAN. ive played a monk..its fun..but easy. if you want a challenge then choose the shaman. its fun to build. and if you are debating about what kind of race to use i defintaly go for IKSAR. WE have more WIS to start off with. can get it to 120. versus others getting it to only 105 or 110. you WILL become one of the MOST POWERFUL beings in EQ. we have hp to mana conversing. and we also have BUFFS GALORE. sure you have druids and enchanters and clerics. but shamans have moooore bouffs than all those. my suggestion to you is that if you like magic casting pick the IKSAR SHAMAN. people disregard them as bad becuase of horrible faction.. get over it. you get INVIS so its no biggie. you can do faction quests... (this can get you EXP and money too). i can say all this from experience having a CLERIC, DRUID, and ENCHANTER. so if you wana a challenge and will have fun. choose the IKSAR SHAMAN.

Iksar Quest Armors
# Dec 01 2003 at 8:09 PM Rating: Decent
I don't know if anyone's posted about this already or not, but I thought I'd throw it out. The Trooper Scale armor - the warrior quest armor - can not be obtained until level 25. I'm not sure if it's the same for the other classes' quests (Scaled Mystic, Dread Scale) but it is for warriors. My fiance's iksar warrior had a piece or two she obtained with a friend's help, and one day when she went to try another, the scorpikis in the Overthere would not give her the quest, although she'd gotten it before. She thought it may have been a faction issue (got reset, changed, etc) and petitioned a GM, but he couldn't find anything wrong with her faction. Then when she reached 25, she was able to get the quests from the scorpikises.

Can anyone confirm or correct this information?

Elemental armor + full raid buffs + Iksar AC=

Good stuff!

Iksar warriors have the highest ac of all warriors (nevermind the 'no plate' rule! Iksar warriors at around 30 get iksar warr only plate! Plus Elemental plate is wearable by Iksar!), plus regen (which is IMPOSSIBLE to get besides), and enough sta that if you use the right gear, stats, and point allocation, there's no reason why you shouldn't get plenty of sta to take the blows, if not the 305 max!

In short: Iksar warrios=ultimate tanks. If only taunt worked with aggro on you...

Well, make sure to get gear with plenty of procs!

Sorry friend, but your wrong on Iksar being the best warrior class....Not flamin you but I've had Iksar & dumped for the BEST which is of course...The Ogre

First, hp regen only good to about lvl 20 then it doesnt mean much b/c you will have too many hit points for it to matter. Iksars can be stunned, Ogres cannot be stunned from the front, no matter the lvl of mob. Ogres have enourmous base strength and more hit points than any other class.
But the best point of the ogre is that he is not stunnable.

Actually u made some pretty good points. SOE wont fix taunt because it actually works the way its supposed to but its used wrong.
Taunt is current agro plus 1 from what I understand. so if a nuke goes off after a taunt u will have while b4 it refreshes. Hence dead nuker.
The problem is that casters like to sit on hills at max distance and then run like a chicken with its head cut off when they get agro. Its hard for the tank to reestablish any sort of agro on those conditions.
Simple rules but its not easy to pull off but:
1) stay with and under melee (there are exceptions to this rule)
2) inform MT that a agro getting spell is coming (nuke, slow, complete heal those kind of things) and then tell him to hit taunt when it lands.

Broke Iksars...
# Sep 25 2003 at 11:12 AM Rating: Decent
Alright, its stupid noob question time again. So feel free to slap me a few times just as long as you also give an answer.

I started EQ with a nice safe "good" HE Bard to learn the ropes. Quickly found that the fastest way to early money was by way of Green Goblins and Large Skunks in Butcherblock. But I also found that the "good life" was not for me.

So now I'm an Iksar Necro and LOVE it. Soared to level 8 faster than I could imagine without any twinks, gifts, or other outside help. Simply amazed and love this guy. Trouble is he is perpetually broke. No funds. And seemingly no source of funds. Ergo, I'm running on very select and limited spells.

Now the question is... Where does a Low level, Solo Iksar Necro find plats? I had thought Brittle Iksar Skulls would be it when I saw the price the vendors were selling them for and the freq of drops, but that proved a joke. (Someone want to explain the 1500% price markup there? Sell for 5 copper and then have to pay 1.5 plat to buy it back? I'll allow anyone profit but sheeeeesh!)

Any words of wisdom would really really really be appreciated. Cause the spells just get more costly and I dare not delve deeper into the wilds till I fill the gaps in my existing spell book.

Thanks

I decided (against the "wisdom" of some things I had read) to make my very first char an Iksar Necro. This was mainly because of the soloing potential (normal and also no-warning urgent family issues make it hard to group) and the ability to get to a fairly high level with just the zones around Cabilis. Found my guy was broke a lot of the time too at first.

I collected rusty weapons from the decaying skels in Field of Bone for my first 100 plat, took a few days to get that amount.

I ended up tying one of the movement keys to a foraging hot button and keeping all the stuff I foraged, especially in FoB. I sometimes see shouts from folks there offering 5p for deadbone barley (singly, not per stack). I also made a lvl 1 human ranger and got him to the bazaar, and I pass along all my foraged lichenclover to him which sells there for 5p each, then I pass the plat back -- bless the shared plat slot. Some may call this twinking -- I don't know if I'd agree, but the end result is my necro now has 1K plat in the bank and he's still pretty low level.

The rest of the stuff I forage I end up using as well -- fishing grubs, fruit, vegetables, pods of water, etc. I use it all in one tradeskill or another. I won't need to buy food for a long time.

Oh and my theory on the brittle iksar skulls is that merchants sell them for such high prices because they're used in quests, and the powers don't want it to be too cheap to just buy the quest items required. Just my opinion though.

This is all on Stromm, BTW. YMMV.

Hope this helps.

It depends on what you want to do really. Most Iksar players do perfer to play a necro from what I've obsereved. You won't be able to tank or use swords and shields, ect, like sks do, but necros are powerful soloers. In fact they let thier pets tank while the necro casts spells on the mobs. Sk's do get a pet at lvl 9 and can fear kite as well at later lvls though. So sk's can solo as well but probably not as well as necros. Well I'll find out soon, I'm only lvl 5 sk but hope to be lvl 9 by tomorrow :)

best class for iksar = shaman Smiley: smile

Honestly, there isn't a class allowable to Iksar that isn't fun to play. Kinda depends on what you like to play in general. ALL the int casters I start, end up languishing in the mid teens until they are deleted. However, all my wis casters, are levelling just fine.

If you like meleeing, try SK, Monk or even warrior.

If you like being a caster, try necro.

Whatever you choose, enjoy your handsome scaliness, and superior HP regen. Only one race has better regen, and they ceratinly are nowhere near an Iksar's scaliness.

Iksar Bonuses And Negitives

10 posts
I have been playing Rithnok The Star Dragon now for the past three years and in that time I have noticed a few things which I will list in a table format for all to see. Capital Letters are Bonuses and lower case letters are Negitive points.

A.) Iksar have the same rate of Regen as a troll does at the higher levels and seriously cuts down the down time at the lower levels ESPECIALLY with a good Bind Wound Skill

B.) Iksar also carry with them a Signifigant armour class bonus in the form of a 45% AC bonus. (In my case I was figuring it out, The BP of the Void which I use gives me 101 AC and not the 65 AC it shows)

C.) Excellent swimming skill, while this doesn't seem like much it gives us the ability to travel through water zones without a problem.

a.) We are hated by just about EVERY Race, aside from Thurg Dorfs and Giants to start. (Myself I'm Non Kos To a LARGE amount of cities and thats just because of how I RP. A Good Dragon who was forced into the form of an Iksar from Edo Japan.)

b.) 20% Exp Hit, Yeah, This sucks hard I know. But this is because we have the afore mentioned bonuses and because of that we get this penalty. It's hard but with a little tenacity you can get through it.

c.) Armor; This seems to be the biggest issue so far regard the iksar race. Yes, while there is a lot of Speculation in regards to the problem of armor all I have to say is this. We may not be able to use the neat Cobalt, and other kunark armors, we can wear Tranquility Armor, All Velious armor, just about all Luclin armors and the Elemental armors. And because of our racial rarity we can wear all the planar armor which has been created just for us. And these armors will carry you from 46 to 60 without a problem. As long as Velious is as far as you want to go. In regards to other armours for Iksar stick with the Imbued or regular cab scale armors and you can easily go all the way up to 46th where you can pick up the new planar armors.

Note: There is nothing about plate armor and Iksar, The only reason they cannot wear the plate armors originally is due to the fact that at the time the Iksar AC Bonus would have pushed the Iksar Leaps and Bounds ahead of the other races for AC and with them being able to top out STA with OGRES and TROLLS this made them a more effective tank than any other race giving them an Almost 20pt Damage mitigation over everyone else and that was not acceptable. However they will be running into that problem again with Elemental armors.

Furor (Most powerful warrior in EQ right now 10k hps and 1974ac) If the same equipment was given to an Iksar warrior you'd be looking at a warrior with 10k hps and 2800 AC which in rough terms is. 40pt Damage mitigation above and Beyond AA's and everything else. Which puts the Iksar Warrior as the most destructive and Defensively inclined warrior in EQ.

This is just a run down of the basics of the Positives and Negitives of the Iksar racial abilities. So if I have something wrong here that you know for Fact please feel free to correct me.

This is the only point I disagree on. You seem to be assuming that human warriors don't get ANY ac modifier on their armor. While it is not as high as Iksar, alll melees get a % multiplier on AC. Even my cleric gets more than one net AC point fro meach raw point of AC.

So while an Iksar warrior with Furor's gear might break 2k ac, he WOULD NOT have 2800 ac on the same gear.

Ok this one is to all you people who chose not to be an Iksar warrior, fact is Iksars make great warriors, equip them with Crystal Chittin and Engraved Royal Velium Pieces of Gear duel wield with Cint LS or G.J.B, or bash it up with a sarnak battle shield, iwth these items at level ten they should have well beyon 600 ac making them an ultra tank, and the health should be about 644 at 10 which is really sweet, so basically with regen, bonus ac, and nice armor your iksar will woop every other warrior because on EQ for a warrior STA and AC are king and queen.
