The Iksar

race logoThe Iksar starts off in Cabilis in the continent of Kunark. Iksar are killed on sight by every other race in Norrath. What is the best strategy for playing a Iksar? What zones and cities should you take him to and which ones should you avoid? Which factions should you work on improving, and which factions should you be wary of decreasing? How can you safely play your Iksar beyond Kunark? What are the best quests for the beginning Iksar? Where are the best shops? How should you role play your Iksar?

Iksar's are great, and Kunark is the best place to raise a character in all of Norath. I have 3 Iksar characters. My newest one is a monk and he got to lvl 30 in 120 hours of game play. Pretty good I think.

whats a good armor for a Iksar Warrior that cost around the same as Crafted and is about as good? i cant twink it out with higher plat stuff but i do have some plat so what should i buy?
RE: what kinda armor

Go for Cabilis Scale. It will last you til you get high enough to go after your Trooper Scale armor. Whatever you do, do NOT buy the Cab Scale from the vendors. Just find yourself a Master Blacksmith and have them forge it, then buy it from them.

Cabilis Scale armor is what you should be looking for. It is basically equivalent to banded/bronze armor but it costs a bit more, averages 5pp per AC on my server.

# Apr 30 2001 at 9:19 PM Rating: Decent
Not sure if this is new or not but we can regain our lost starting item (first cudgel, shackle, helmet, etc.) given to us by our guild. Hail one of your class guild trainers and he/she will ask if you have your first starting item. Answer no and enjoy the quest that follows.
Bankers?
# Apr 30 2001 at 7:42 AM Rating: Default
As a lvl 16 iksar warrior I am, it would seem, completely screwed on the mainland, faction is up high enough with wood elves and dwarfs from endless hours killing CBs residents to wander into the towns, do the CB belt and pad quests, infact jsut about every NPC flags as dubious, apart from the banker (in wood elf city) who is still KOS, is there any way to get round this (other than a lengthy trip back to Cabilis to bank), is it only the wood elf banker? (aint looked at dwarf banker yet as I am reasonably sure that the miners guild is KOS, and they um, camp rather close to the bank :p)
Havent seen the inside of my bank box for 4 or 5 levels now, and am getting a bit sick of having to just give 80% of my cash away.

just a thought there is one quest that gives faction with bankers. i believe it is tha barb shaman initiate quest.but you would have to gain faction in qeynos and halas first.but i would imagine doin this quest several billion times may allow you to use bankers everywhere.just an idea haven't tried it or anything, just remember getting faction for banker when i did the quest with my barb shaman.

Get a good weapon, if necro get a pet. Go to Warsliks Woods at lvl 3 go to Trooper Walrun at the left side at the edge of the Cabilis concrete. Pull Goblins to you and if you get in over your head just run to Trooper Walrun and he will put the hurts on the goblins.

You can also take 3 Goblin Watcher torches and turn them into captain Gibeen in one of the buildings on the second floor not too far away and get coin, exp, and a bandage. This works all the way up to lvl 7.

If you stick with Goblins you will get good faction with the Firiona Vie people and be able to go there. Not sure what level you need to be able to do this but I'm lvl 12 and it hasn't happened yet, but I did see a lvl 20+ Iksar Shaman in the FV docks.

this stratagy workx great for all races and classes but i would have to say it worx best for the iksar due to the incredable regen rate they naturally have. All you do is find a cleric that is can cast heroic bond (lvl 52 i beleive) and you get it cast on you then all you do is go and kill the hard stuff around you.

you go up lvls fast

well ok i think that iskar necros r one of the funist and easyist class/race combos in the game besides the way the stupid helms look on them (not the skull ones) i find that besides what every one says they r hard to solo but VERY easy and fun to group with they hit um with a dot med up while the pet attacks and then after u med for a sec u hit it for a dd spell or a life draw and u r like god to your group with leach and all u do is grin evaly and say MWAHAHA or MOO HAHA ( i cant help it i just love being evil) so u own monsters and i hate to solo but i can kill yellows and some reds easy but i find it fun to kill high reds in a group.

Anyone who wants INFORMATION ABOUT IKSAR NECROMANCERS read this. ok 1st the necromancers stats should be 110intelligence and 100dex. why put all into intelligence because IKSAR NECROMANCERS Start off with an intelligence of 85 thats about the same as humans, Dexterity because iksar necromancers have enough AC and hp and there regen rate going to practice a weapon skill (1HB) plus the Necro epic is 1HB. When playing your iksar you should remember do the skullcap quest in the Tower these caps are one of the best in the game, final outcome is a +4Intelligence +10mana +5sv Magic high AC cap. As Iksars you are a Unique necromancer as you are the only necromancer that should have almost no trouble to have near 1000ac at lvl 60 and Regeneration which will help you with your HP - Mana Spells. k

# Apr 17 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Default
I was running around East Cabilis today and I ran into the SK/Shaman guild. After checking out different NPC's for items needed for my 29 Barb shaman (cheaper for an Iksar I found), I ran into an area with a big pit and part of a bridge going across. Well, I fell in and took 180 pts. damage, and now I'm in the process of trying to get out. I have no ideas and being a warrior, I have no magical abilities to help. My only resort that I can come up with right now is to petition a GM, but I really don't want to do that. If anyone has any pertinent information, I would greatly appreciate it.

Well, I found my way out. But I suck at climbing ladders and spent about a half hour just trying to do that. Thanks for the help (except for the guy that told me I'm "basically screwed"). My advice, which is mainly to myself but all are welcome to heed, if you're an Iksar warrior running bagman for a character of another race who is KoS in Cabilis, stick to the vendor levels and get what you need and GET OUT!!! Don't wander around looking for trouble 'cuz you'll end up finding more than you need.

There are a couple of ways to get out of the tunnels under the SK/Shaman's guild. But be carefull, there are at least a couple of pit-traps in the tunnels that will deal you at least the same damage as the original room did. If you find the stairs mentioned in an earlier post, take them to the top. Someplace at the top of the stairs is a secret wall that comes out in the original "Pit" room that you fell from, except you're on the other side of the broken bridge. Just walk around the outside of the pit and yer home free. Also, if you manage to find the lowest levels of the tunnels, you may find a room with a large, fairly deep pool of water in it. I have heard that this pool connects with the rest of the Cabilis water ways and you come out under in the docks in West Cabilis. Good luck!

Basically, you're screwed. I've never fallen in there with any character that has enough hp to survive the fall, but I've heard it's the second most annoying place in cabilis (after the maze that I got lost in in west cabilis, I gave up on that char). I have heard something about being able to walk through one of the walls, but I've never tried it
RE: What now?
# Apr 29 2001 at 7:53 AM Rating: Default
Basically you keep going right untill you've gone up about 4 levels of ramps... then you'll hit a rough hewn room with the sound of water coming through the wall, you should be able to go through one of the walls there and then you just swim out. (MAke sure you don't head back into the maze...
RE: What now?
# Apr 17 2001 at 6:44 AM Rating: Default
Ok walk around the walls down there until you find one you can walk through. Then walk through it and look for a stone staircase type dealy mabob and go up it. then keep going up until you pop out in the city. i think once i fell through the floor on the stairs but im not sure where so watch out.

You can kill a couple of thousand orcs outside freeport. But I doubt that it is wort it. Maybe there is a better way, anyone else know?

I've reasently been to Antonica and have some usefull tips though.
In the Oasis there is a gypsy camp, one of the female gypsies merchants trades with Iksar (the others won't).
I also found a female merchant near Freeport in Northern desert of Ro where I could sell my loot. All others I tried, just told me they would not trade with my kind, but none of them attacked me (except the guards).
Beware the Pit!
# Apr 15 2001 at 10:39 AM Rating: Default
I know a lot of people hunt in the pit from level 5 or 6 on to level 15. My advice, avoid the pit if you can! There are way too many various leveled mobs that will join into fights if you are soloing, which can be quit a pain.
What i did was once I hit level 5, I went to the Lake of Ill Omen, and killed Sabertooth kittens, cubs, Sarnak Hatchlings, Decay Skeletons, Skeletons, and Goblin Scouts until they all become green. I never had any compatition for kills doing this, for I think most people assume you are going to fight at the lake at this zone, but it really is a good post-newbie zone.
I think by this point i was level 7 or 8. I went to the Swamp of No Hope, and killed various bugs, leeches, and occasional Frogloks until I hit level 10. Beware doing this in this zone, there are quit a few high level monsters, but the only ones who ever gave me any trouble were the high level Frogloks, who can be avoided easily if care is taken not to go too far into the zone.
At level 10 I ventured on to Kurn's Tower. This place is awsome for leveling up. By this time I was able to get a few necro spells, and the ability to summon a weak helper (Leering Corpse). I camped the entrance to Kurn's tower and went from level 10 to 12 in like 7 hours! I ventured just a little deeper and went down a level. I killed Skeleies and Burynai and hit level 15 in about 1 full day (Lots of healing and med time required).
I plan on staying here until at least lvl 20, which can easily be done. I just had way too many bead experieces with the pit, and I prefer to solo myself.

Just my thoughts on this level

Just because you had bad experiences doesn't mean everyone else will. I spent a lot of time in the Pit, and stayed there til I was getting very little experience from it. What I would do is stay near the walls and wait for a suitable critter to come walking by. If it was a decent distance from another mob, I would pull it to the wall and kill it. Then I moved to Kurn's. I didn't even group with anyone until I started going into the basement, and even then, it was mostly with another warrior. We owned the basement through good strategy and smart playing, and I stayed there til around 24th level before moving to the Lake of Ill Omen. Spent a few levels near the Windmill, then moved to the backdoor of the fort to beat on Sarnaks. Stayed there til 31 or so, and then went to join the groups at the giant fort in FM. Now I travel abroad, going wherever I want.

It's just a matter of playing it smart, using your abilities to maximum effectiveness, knowing what's around you, and definitely knowing where the nearest zone/guard is located when the trains start rolling along.
RE: Beware the Pit!
# Apr 17 2001 at 6:49 AM Rating: Default
That is a good strategy but Kurn's doesn't have too good of exp past level 18+. Plus even with my monk at level 27 I dont go down too deep alone not because they are too hard down there but becuase they will ALL aggro you at once and cause a massive train. I once killed almost everyone in the zone by doing this and running to the zone instead of feigning death(which I forgot I had for some reason).I do think this is a good strategy however becuase I too have had some bad times in the pit when I was a lower level killing something that was white when along comes a Greater Skellie or Wolf Hunter thingy.
RE: Beware the Pit!
# Apr 18 2001 at 6:38 AM Rating: Decent
Where is a good level for 18+? Kurn's Tower, like any other place, gets a little boring after a while. As I am almost to 18, where did you go at that point?
RE: Beware the Pit!
# Apr 19 2001 at 12:19 AM Rating: Decent
Lake of Ill Omen. Even though it is (at least on my server) a jam-packed zone it is still a good place to go. The xp is great and the loot isn't half bad either.
If your a monk, the basement of kurns isn't bad at all
# May 03 2001 at 9:46 AM Rating: Decent
instead of dying, try using FD. I've been in the basement and tunnels for 22-24, some of the time i was camping the jester, others just messing around. One thing though, watch out for the burynai SK's, My current record for a harmtouch by them is 215pts of damage. >ouch< most only do around 150-170 though
Iksar Guide
# Apr 15 2001 at 12:00 AM Rating: Good
Ok, for all the newbs starting an Iksar... you'll be fine. For Warriors/Shamans/SK's: Do the Curscale quest by hailing Klok Mugruk in the Haggle Baron... you can't beat money/exp/faction/armor for a simple quest. After that, fight in the Field of Bone/Lake of Ill Omen for exp and faction, explore Kurns Tower, and group up to take on some harder opponents to get your lvl up and learn your classes basic skills.

For monks/necros, fight/quest until you can go into the spiderling cave to the west of the newb ramp... start making silk thread and up your tailoring skill... maybe even fight the burynaibane spider for his fang (great newb necro weapon) or his charm (+2 SV poison & disease).
Once you can fight bonecrawlers in the Field of bone.. DO IT!! start making silk swatches. By the time you've upped your lvls high enough to start fighting bigger things, you've also upped your tailoring skills to start making raw silk armor with those swatches you made. Light weight and cheap, necros will have a ball with all the bone chips they can collect here. Shamans Spirit of Wolf spell will become EXTREMELY valuable for avoiding those multiple large MOBS roaming the Field.

Just beware of the frequent trains of scalebones, bandits, and wolf hunters. I suggest traveling the world by lvl 20, only because of the real dangers there are in Kunark. Work up faction by killing orcs in E. Commons, gnolls in Blackburrow, whatever raises faction in Oggok or Grobb, and start to build up your char. Perhaps becoming a true tailor and making tailor made bags for weight reduction, or working on blacksmithing for that one day Cabilis Scale Mail (only in my dreams right now).

NOTE: Shamans/Shadow Knights have special armor for THEIR CLASS ONLY ! harder quests but WELL worth the effort. All the classes have a special something, (Warrior:Pike, Shaman:Mace, SK:Khukri, Necro: Skullcap, Monk: Shackle) While these quest seem to take MUCH patience, they are cool to do as a true role-player.

Other than that Iksar's have pretty good wis/int for trade skills and spells, good agi/dex for combat, and regen and night-vision. Drawbacks are unfriendly guards in other cities (fixed with faction) and an experience drawback. Other than that, have fun... it's your char... do what YOU like !!!

Yes ikar are very good, but they have some heavy downsides, Faction and Xp penalty 8( are "more evil than the race itself" even though they number only 2 they are very heavy, my avice is if you have just gotten into playing EQ than my advice is pick an elven warrior (high-elven pallys are ok but dont pick them right off the bat) you shoud be able to start in kelethin DO this because it is a great newbie zone and you dont have to zone to get to shops, bank etc......

I know i am getting off track but here is what i say: once you have gotten use to the game I.E. bout another 14'ish character start up an iksar, out of the choices monk&warrior will be nice, warrior is medium diff. and monk is medium to high diff. also with "monkeys" faction becomes OK after 17, FEIGN DEATH will save you, and your group many times, when you ringy dingy 17 head to your guild and practice (even spend money on) the skill when you run outta points do a feign death and lay there, when the button comes back up click it again(i sugest the "thumper" mouse enhancment since it click's the skill by itself) when you have atleast gotten exelent then dont be afraid, everything acept PC will forget about you when you feign, worth the time because you level faster(and for us iksar loosing exp at 6 means about 5 more Blue conned kills) and also, many people use weapons in primary, DONT, use like an essence of dol which is secondary if your dying to use a weapon in primary and are short of cash after the essence get a fighting baton" hope this is usefull. sorry that i know NOTHING about any other of the classes. and even with the xp penalty i got my monk to 6 in 2!! days
so its real easy, and when yo get 5 head to CB to fight, good exp AND BEST OF ALL!!! faction (clap clap clap clap clap)

well good luck on YOUR new iksar(or whatever)

P.S. and new players, i know it looks normal but DO NOT pick humans unless you want a good 0:) monkey(=monk)

Dude, it took you 2 days to get to lvl 6??

It took me over night (about 4 hours real time) to get to 6, then another hour or two to get to lvl eight, asnd without twinking (first character on PvP teams) and without power-leveling, plus i got bout 20pp and am looking for some cured silk.

It doesnt take long to get to 6, a bit harder to get to eight, only because you have to select your targets coz you dont wanna pull a maruader on you. but i havent had much trouble, died bout 6 times all together and have had a ball!

Iksar are heaps fun to play, monks are cool and the newbie areas, four of em coz you just stay near the ruined outposts near cabilis and kill the low mobs there, and easy to get armor except patchwork.

# Apr 14 2001 at 2:01 PM Rating: Decent
I'm going to disagree with you on this one. To me (and I may be wrong), you are coming froma standpoint of traveling all around the world with these guys at low levels. Kunark has some of the best newbie areas in the came. One doesn't have to go further than the Field of Bone and Kurn's Tower to easily hit lvl 20. By that time anybody can be semi ready to travel anywhere else. Granted you will be KoS on the mainland, but by lvl 20 you shoudl be easily capable of killing everything you need to kill for faction. Is it challenging...yes. But if all else stay on Kunark, it still yields some of the best items in the game. Above else, if you want to play an evil character, everybody at the island cities love you for it. In that sense it is no different than playing an Dark elf or Troll, etc
