This is the 8th Garadain quest. It is an all out war against Chief Ry'Gorr and his troops.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Thank you, ______, your service to our people has been most helpful. The time has come for our people to make war with the Ry`gorr. They must pay for their transgressions against our people. We are just waiting on you. Prepare yourself for glorious battle and tell me when you are [ready].'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

You say, 'I am ready.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Very well, ______, give me the Adamantite ring and I will give you the marching orders. Once the orders are given to Gloradin in the next hut, we will be underway. You then must follow me to what will be our battleground. I must warn you, I will hold your ring until the head of Chief Ry`gorr is given to me. If we fail, all will be lost... for both of us.'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Give this to Gloradin and return to me immediately, it is time. May Brell be with us!'
Your faction standing with Coldain got better.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV got better.
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

As you can see, the 8th quest is tough. You only get ONE chance to do it right. Once you give Garadain your ring, you must kill Chief Ry'Gorr, loot his head, and give the head to Garadain. Ry'gorr only has a head during this event. I am unsure if you can do the quest if Garadain dies. Most likely, if he dies during this event you won't be able to complete the quest. You only get one shot at this, because you lose the ring.

This battle involves 30+ rygorr, including some low 50's. This probably requires a well-tuned team of 55-60th level snare kiters, or alternatively a full 30+ PC army.

Upon hand-in to Gloradin:

Gloradin Coldheart says 'Thank you. I will return to the Dain and inform him that the battle is underway. Please escort Garadain to the battlefield and see that he returns safely. May Brell bless you and bring you victory over these beasts.'
You gain experience!!

Garadain starts to walk towards the Orc fort.

You say, 'Hail, Garadain Glacierbane'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Follow me closely, friend, time is of the essence. I will describe our situation as we walk.'

Your pulse quickens in anticipation of battle!

Garadain Glacierbane says 'The Dain's own royal troops will be at our disposal for the battle. This is good news, they are hardened, experienced soldiers. The bad news is that our sources indicate that the Ry`gorr have been alerted to our presence and will be ready for an attack. This is most unfortunate... They will not go down without a fierce fight.'

You hear the pounding of Ry`gorr war drums.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'It is of utmost importance that you stay with me throughout the fight. Your focus must be on killing Chief Rygorr and keeping me alive, mind that you do not become distracted. If I fall the Dain's men will retreat and you'll definitely be cut down.'

Garadain Glacierbane groans, 'It is worse than I thought. Not only are they prepared for an attack, but they have the Kromrif here to help them. Our steel will be tested today. Be sure not to show the troops any fear.'

Garadain walks away from the Orc fort to arrange his troops on the plain to the north.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'TROOPS! FALL IN!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Listen up men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'You all know why we're here. For decades these savages have menaced our people. Recent events have been too much to bear and the Dain has declared war! We will stop at nothing short of the Ry`gorr's annihilation!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'No longer will we tolerate their heathen presence in our lands! Never again will we mourn the loss of a Coldain to these pawns of the Kromrif! Our deeds here today shall make this land safe for Coldain for all time!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Today the Ry`gorr fall! Tomorrow the Kromrif!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Fall out men!'

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Stay back from the initial charge, my friend. We will go directly for the chief once the troops are engaged. Follow me closely!'

Garadain Glacierbane shouts 'For the Glory of Thurgadin! CHARGE!'

Once you've looted the NO TRADE Chief Ry`Gorr's Head, give it to Garadain.

Garadain Glacierbane says 'Good work friend! The Dain will hear of this right away. We couldn't have defeated the Ry'gorr without your help. Take this ring as proof that you have served the Coldain well. You may wish to show it to the Seneschal should you ever stop in our fine city. Farewell, ______, it has been my pleasure knowing you.'

Coldain +35
Dain +8

Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by 35
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV has been adjusted by 8
Your faction standing with Kromzek got worse.
Your faction standing with Kromrif got worse.
You gain experience!!

The reward is the Velium Coldain Insignia Ring.

Need all dialogues, emotes, and faction hits.

You say, 'hail Seneschal Aldikar'
Seneschal Aldikar says 'And a good day to you, Human. I must say that I'm impressed that your people were even able to make it to our continent, let alone survive the frigid temperatures of it. I am Seneschal Aldikar, Commander of the Armies of Thurgadin, known by some as the Sword of the Dain. My armies are currently undergoing intensive training and are ready for a full assault on Kael Drakkel as soon as his majesty gives the order.

[give him the ring]
[he returns the ring]

Seneschal Aldikar says 'Maynar , I must speak to the Dain before I instruct you further. Please speak to me while the royal court is in session.

Chamberlain Krystorf shouts 'The Royal Court of Dain Frostreaver IV and his council of advisors is now in session. Those citizens with official business for the crown please report to the throne room at this time.
It is 9 AM on Friday, the 27th day of August, of the year 3202.

[give him the ring]
[he returns the ring]

Seneschal Aldikar says 'Well done, Maynar , I have heard of your victory over the Ry`Gorr. If you are willing to assist the crown further please follow me.

Seneschal Aldikar says 'Please, shut the door behind you. What I am about to share with you must not be overheard.
Seneschal Aldikar says 'My army stands prepared to launch an assault on Kael itself, but one task must be completed before this can happen.
Seneschal Aldikar says 'It seems Rodrick was not alone in his treachery. There is a faction of Coldain who believe that a treaty should be signed with the Kromrif, ending our hostilities with them. This, of course, is impossible. If there is one thing our history here has taught us it is that the Kromrif simply cannot be trusted.
Seneschal Aldikar says 'These traitors are poisoning the minds of our citizens, promising great rewards to those who will betray the Dain. It will take the unbiased eye of an outlander to flush out the masterminds behind this plan. Once again we turn to you.
Seneschal Aldikar says 'Will you accept this task outlander?
You say, 'i will accept this task'

[he gives a 6 slot box with a combine button]

Seneschal Aldikar says 'In this box, place the accursed dirk of the fallen Rodrick. With it combine the heads of every traitor you dispose of. When this is done give the box and the velium insignia ring to the Dain directly. On behalf of the crown and all good Coldain, I thank you ... May Brell be with you.
Seneschal Aldikar says 'Farewell.

there are a few npc in thurgadin that give responses that the city will change. maybe they are they traitors

Hail All,
The traitors are found in a cave south of the dragon portal in GD. If you go straight out of the opening in the ring to the zone wall they are in one of the caves there. One of the traitors is Rodrick's brother or cousin or something, he shares the same last name. The NPC's will exchange some dialogue that you should listen to before you act, I don't have it here or I would post it. Also Rodrick's relative is only there once in a while, where as the others seem to be there all the time now. I will post more about these traitors as I learn it. :)

Does anyone know if Gloradain is a triggered spawn because it seems pretty rare that she is around! Any info would be great!

She is a 24 hour spawn. If she is killed or somebody does last quest, it'll be 24 hours before anybody can do it again.

Verant, in it's infinite wisdom, uses it's usual (read: lazy) tactic for keeping a quested item rare ---> make the key mob for the quest ultra-rare. People will 'claim' Gloradain for the whole day. Do a shout in EW asking if Gloradain is up, and you'll get a response that an_uber_d00d00 is taking the next spawn, several hours from now.
After the 8th is complete ...

After all is complete, garadain mentions that you should show this ring to the sencheanl(sp) in thurgadin. Has anyone been brave enough to hand their hard fought for ring over to the "blade" of the King, if so ... what was the outcome ? Btw the ring simply is awesome, well worth the effort.

Do not give your ring to the senchenel (sp), at least not when he's next to Dain in Icewell Keep. I got the nice message: "Thank you for a velium coldain insignia ring Kanja."

After today's patch I handed in ring to seneschal to the left of the Dain while court was in session. Had a GM there just in case... He gave it back and bid me to follow him if I was interested in serving the crown further!

Not giving away what he said after, but there's definitely more!!

He then gave me a box with 6 slots. He wants the boxfilled with rodricks knife and 5 heads of traitors. He doesnt say who the traitors are.

Urmm no...Rodrick's head is lore, in other words you can only have one of them. Besides wouldn't it be redundant to take his head again while in the storyline you had already killed him?

Before even starting this quest I would recommend getting your Tailoring and Smithing skills to at least 50, as Tailoring and Smithing are REQUIRED in 2 of the 8 quests. Most of these quests I did solo, and I'm a Level 60 Druid on Torvonnilous.

Quest #1. Getting the 2 HQ Tundra Kodiak pelts for this is a real drag, they are rare drops, and you can spend HOURS just getting two, so if you can buy them using /ooc DO SO even if someone wants 100plat apiece for them. The 2 HQ Cougerskin Pelts are easy to get, just do a /ooc in Iceclad to purchase them, occasionally the gnomes by the docks in Iceclad have them for sale from players selling them. You need a large sewing kit to combine the pelts to make Garadains Blanket (large sewing kit available in Misty Thicket). This is where your Tailoring Skill comes into play, I initially tried this with a skill of 36 and failed twice, got my skill to 62 and made it first attempt. It's worth the effort to get your skill to at least 50 rather than try and get more HQ Tundra Kodiak pelts. Turn in blanket to Garadain to get the copper Coldain insignia ring.

Quest #2. Garadain will give you an axe to take to his nephew Boridain. After giving the axe to Boridain you need to protect him until a Rabid Kodiak spawns. However, he wanders directly to the Giant fort first thing after starting the quest and gets killed quickly. The solution is to go kill the two giants at the entrance to the fort and THEN start the quest. After the fort Boridain will wander over by the Orc fort, if there aren't people camping the fort, then run ahead and dispatch the two orcs by the entrance. Boridain then wanders away and sits down, when he sits down the rabid kodiak spawns behind him....kill the rabid kodiak, loot the pelt and quickly give the pelt to Boridain and he will give you a broken axe. Turn in broken axe and copper ring to Garadain to get the silver coldain insignia ring.

Quest #3. You need a HW Walrus hide, Wooly rhino horn, and a skinning rock (found on ground at random places in EW, they look like red dots). combine all three items in a forge to make a knife. give knife and silver ring to Garadain to get the gold coldain insignia ring.

Quest #4. Find Tain Frostbite, hail him, then type "help". As soon as you type "help" the quest starts and in about 15 seconds four nasty giants, including one named, will run straight towards Tain, go off to the side, target the named one and snare him away from the other three. Run him off aways and kill him to loot a elixir. Now, wait till Tain spawns again (I think spawn time is 30-45minutes) and re-trigger the quest with the "help" comment, but this time IMMEDIATELY after typing "help" give Tain the elixir and he will give you a Coldain Smithing Hammer. Now run outta there and let the giants kill Tain again. Give your Coldain Smithing Hammer and gold ring to Garadain for the platinum coldain insignia ring.

Quest #5. Go wait by the Ry Gorr orc fort until a messenger spawns. Kill messenger and loot the invasion plans. Go over to the coldain camp where Garadain is. There is a coldain lookout to the east of the tents, give the invasion plans to the lookout. Immediately after you give plans to the lookout, Scarbrow (a named orc) and 5 other orcs will spawn to the West of the coldain camp. Run over and target/snare Scarbrow to pull him away from the other orcs. You need to do this quickly as Scarbrow leads charge to the camp. Kill Scarbrow and loot his head, and hopefully the Frozen Orb too if you're lucky. By now the other orcs will probably have killed the coldain so when Garadain re-spawns, give him the Scarbrow head and platinum ring to get the obsidian coldain insignia ring.

Quest #6. Go to orc fort again. On the west side of fort outside is a little shack/building. Eventually a Ry Gorr Emissary will spawn here, do not kill it, a few minutes after this a named coldain called Rodrick will spawn, here you can pull him with a dot or DD or a snare. If you dot or DD you will need to kite him and its hard because he cannot be snared OR rooted. Personally I snared (failed) and then ran to a wooly rhino and charmed it so when Roderick attacked, my rhino beat the snot out of him. Loot the head. Now, wait until night and go to the south end of zone. There is a coldain camp here where a coldain ghost pops only at night named Korrigan. Talk to korrigan and give him the obsidian ring. He gives ring back and Icefang starts coming towards Korrigan, back off, and do not get aggro'd on by Icefang, but follow him from a distance, make sure nothing kills him if he gets jumped by any other npc's. Icefang will wander for a bit until he eventually goes to the ry gorr camp by the bridge, this is where Poxbreath Yellowfang and a few other orcs will spawn, snare Poxbreath away from others, then kill and loot the Kromrif Note. Give your obsidian ring, rodericks head and kromrif note to Garadain to get your mithril coldain insignia ring.

Quest #7. First, you need to kill Warden Bruke to get a shackle key. He is over by the prison camp of orcs and giants in north part of zone (where ulthorks spawn). Warden Bruke cons blue to a level 60, runs faster than ordinary sow, and cannot be dotted, snared, rooted or Direct damaged by magic. In addition, when pulling Warden Bruke, 1-5 Kromrif Guards will insta spawn to help/protect him. This is how to do this solo. Postion yourself across from Bruke, keep edging up till your JUST in range to use your elder spiritist arms or cast, when the spell hits bruke, immedately back up, if done correctly, bruke will come SOLO, but now that you have him solo, there is no way to kill him...or is there? Now, seeing that your in wolf form you can run just a bit fasterthan bruke, so run ahead of him and towards a wolly rhino or tundra/wolly mammoth. Charm rhino/mammoth, now when Bruke hits you your pet will go off on him. You will need to do this for a few times, until finally a charmed mob kills him, be prepared to charm 5-6 mobs). Loot key and head over to Corbin Blackwell who is also located in the prison camp. Kill guards around Corbin Blackwell, then give Corbin the shackle key and your mithril ring, he will give you ring back start to make his escape to Dobbin Crossaxe. You cannot do this part solo, you will need 2-3 high level friends as 4 orcs and 4 giants will attack you all at the same time as corbin makes his way to Dobbin. Have everyone in group root and or snare the mobs off of Corbin, and then kill them. When Corbin makes it to Dobbin, Dobbin will thank you for rescuing him and says he will give you a note if you give him your mithril ring. Give Dobbin your ring, he will give you a note. Give note to Garadain to recieve your admantium coldain insignia ring.

Quest #8. Believe it or not, this quest is easier than #7, and I did it with 1 other 56 druid. Before starting this quest MAKE SURE that Gloradin (the female coldain NPC) is spawned in the Garadain camp. Now go to the eastern part of courtyard area by orc fort and clear the 1-2 orcs in there. Go back and give Garadain your admantium ring and he will give you marching orders, give these to Gloradin and the quest starts. when Garadain starts out from coldain camp, have your friend snare him and lead him a ways off running him in circles, safely away from the orc fort. Now, invis yourself and run to the courtyard of orc fort, Chief Ry Gorr, Firbrand the black, Oracle of Ry Gorr, and the Kromrif Commander will all be there, target the Chief, run to the far east wall of courtyard and pull the Chief with snare, he will come SOLO.....root him, then Dot till dead, loot head, re-invis, run out to Garadain. Have your friend run a ways in front of Garadain and camp out. Garadain will now head over to fort, he will stop a bit in front of fort to give orders to the coldain, now give him the head, and you will recieve the Velium Coldain Insignia Ring.

Special thanks to Syphernious, Yotchi, and Dravius for help on the 7th Quest, and to Axem for help on the 8th. As a soloing druid from level 1 to level 60, I wanted to see if this quest could be done with a minimal of people. It cannot be fully solo'd, but a majority of it can be, and it's alot of fun.

Some additions that would help ...
# Feb 05 2001 at 4:30 PM Rating: Excellent
Quest #1: Or if you don't want to get Tailoring up, you can have a tailor make the blanket, and then in Quest #2, multi-quest it (have them turn in the ring, you turn in the broken axe). Would recommend gettin' the broken axe, then giving the items to make the blanket to the tailor so you can immediately proceed to step 3.

Quest #2: I agree, take out 2 (or 3 if captain is up ... he wanders out front) giants, then hand in axe to the newphew (he's on a hill directly east of the giant fort). He will wander over to the warden camp where you have to fight a giant and orc, and he will wander to the orc fort. Pretty easy if you dispatch the giant fort giants first.

Quest #3: Who said Verant is heartless? Collect the walrus hide and rhino horn. If you are not a master blacksmith, find one ... have them wander EW with you to find a red spot on the ground. Have THEM pick it up, give them the walrus hide and rhino horn. They can then smith the knife for you and hand the result over ... it's NOT no drop.

Quest #4: This is best done w/ a druid + a fear casting class. Have druid snare named giant from a distance (away from Tain). This will aggro all the giants on the druid ... have him zone the 3 that aren't snared, leaving just the named giant all alone to kill. Very easy to kill with Fire or w/ mellee/fear combo (i.e. necro).

Quest #5: Much easier way to do this. To the west/southwest of the coldain camp, there are 2 trees standing about 4 feet apart. This is where Scarbrow spawns. If you have someone standing there when you turn in the plans, Scarbrow will spawn alone. They will take a HT (Scar is an SK), but snare/fear works great on Scar, so not a tough fight.

Quest #6: Nothing to add here, except that Icefang was un-aggro to me (in all forms, monk, druid, and necro) when I did this quest both times. Do keep him alive though. If you fail, you have to wait until the next night to turn in your ring to the ghost again.

Quest #7: Surefire way to always get Burke solo: Target him, move around behind him (i.e. behind the wall, where you no longer can see him). Unlike with most walls, you can then cast on him and he immediately comes running solo. He is immune to everything but fire. Can be done w/ druid/necro combo really easily though ... send pet, once pet gets aggro, nuke w/ fire, warden comes charging, run until pet aggros again, nuke, etc etc. The corbin fight can be done w/ 3 - 4 people. Make sure each of them have snare (no wizards here). Stand a bit off from corbin. The giants and orcs will come ambush, assist Corbin, snare the one he is on. This should bring the rest after you. If not, snare again, and have others target some other giants and snare those. The named cannot be snared (at least never was successful). Train the ambush party to zone or to dorfs while the other party members kill the giant on Corbin. He will then continue on.

Quest #8: Should mention that you have to be high level to single pull the Chief. Also, if you loot the chiefs head and Garadain dies, do NOT turn in the head to the Garadain at the huts. If you do, be ready to start over. If you have a high level puller, this is indeed an easy portion of the quest, as you have a single mob to fight. Keeping Garadain snared outside the fort is a great tactic so that he doesn't die on you ... just make sure he doesn't get anywhere near the orcs until you are ready for him.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 27 2001 at 8:19 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Thats great, but you didn't get rygorr oracle shield, or hammer and gloves off firebrand. Good work though.
It's hard. Period. Lots of deaths for innocents.

Well,

I watched this quest attempted the other day. It's amazing. Slowly, orcs and giants (yes, it's 30+ total) form at the fort entrance. Then, again slowly, tons of Dwarfs (mostly royal archers) arrive.

If you follow the general Coldain guy, eventually, he runs to the fort and the orcs and dwarves duke it out.

Here's the problem. All the innocents (bystanders) will either go LD, get killed by wandering trains, or both. I went LD myself. Came back to see 30 corpses needing rez.

The odds are VERY likely that you will fail and you will loose not only numerous lives, but also your ring and the hours to get it.

Use LOTS of caution, research, and planning on this one. Or you'll be sorry.

Ok, I solo'd every one of these quests except for the 7th (we did it with 4 people), on the 8th I'm wondering if it's possible to give ring to Garadain (while the female cleric is up) cast inv, run into fort, target chief, go into courtyard and then cast on him to pull him alone. Quickly kill chief, loot head and turn into Garadain. My question to those who have done this quest is, "How long does it take Garadain from the time you give him the ring, to go into the orc fort?"

This might be just work a little better. Before
giving the ring to Garadain see if the Cheif is
being camped.Work out a deal with the campers to
loot the head then give the ring to Garadain. The
Cheif spawns you loot the head and then turn it in. Garadain gives you the ring, the campers get a shot at the BP and everyones happy.

That's how I did it.

Had group in orc camp..I gave orders to cleric chick, 30 seconds later the chief and his bad boys spawned. I had a lvl 60 Wizard pull the chief to the right, inside the camp, he came solo, we beat the hell out of him, I looted the head, got invis, ran outside, and waited. Minute later the dorfs charged the hill, Garadain stood there all alone, and I gave him the head. I'm proud to say it was the first ring on the Nameless Server.

Good luck to you!! It's an awesome ring, and a very fun quest.

Simply not true...sheesh why must you defame people like that? I know for a fact my ring was the 2nd on Morell Thule server...why? Because I know anyone and everyone capable of doing the quest....Don't defame people for their accomplishments, that merely smacks of jealousy

# Sep 25 2001 at 10:18 AM Rating: Default
I could believe that if you had said that of something like the dragon name quest, or the hall of testing quests, but there are waaay to many people to know everyone who could do this. I mean, on any server there are likely hundreds of people that could do this. I mean, people are talking about doing this SOLO...I'm sure there are dozens of druids/necros/shamen who have soloed their way to 50+ and may not have ever talked to you. There are people out there who aren't in guilds that can still do stuff like this. A year ago I met a group of 5 people who always logged on and played together. They were mid-40s then, they're probably mid-50s now. They had all the skills to do any exp camp out there, and most quests. Why would they have to talk to other people? How could you be SURE you know everyone like this?

Don't get me wrong, I DO respect anyone who has done a quest, espically if they did it before there was a ton of info out there. But as much as I'd love to say "my server is a tight community, and I know everyone over 50" that's just not possable.

well.. because if one of the dwarfs gets the last hit, or does more damage than you, you get no corpse, no head, no ring, for doing the quest the "right way" it is VERY likely you will lose everything, almost 0 chance to get the ring..

by the sounds of things, if you stay and fight, the guy you need to hand the head into will walk ahead of you, and die.. so does sound best to go ahead and clear the way for him :)

ah well, soon I'll start this one, the entire line of quests does look interesting

Heh.

Graayson has (and deserves) the ring because he's clever and competent. I'm afraid your meagre attempt to sound principled smacks of sour grapes.

we did this quest tonight and all died here is the lowdown: there will be 30 orcs and giants and 28 dorfs. They will maul each other. Then about 30 seconds later garadain by himself will sneak past the battle into the fort. In the center of the courtyard the chief, blacksmith, oracle, kromrif gaurd, and kromriff commander will be there and will engage him and rape him. The best plan appears to be ignoring the battle outside and just killing the stuff inside before garadain gets there. Loot head of chief and turn in to gardain then gate out and hope the dorfs win.

I've heard of this working, unless someone from outside the fort aggros the orcs and giants outside the fort and trains them inside, trying to make it to Crystal Caverns.

I was late to get to the fort and missed my opportunity to get trained inside the fort with my guildmates, who were trying to help an old friend finish the quest. I contented myself to try to kite the commander giant around outside the fort, and was saved by a melee type who beat on him for a while before the parties who were trained got back to the fort. A wizard friend nuked him and finished him off for us.

I beg anyone that sees this quest going on this:
1. If you want to help, help the dwarf army outside, waiting until they attack and draw the aggro, and be ready to run. Kiting the outside mobs did not seem to affect things and nuking a few of the giants actually let the dwarfs kill faster. (Hey, where can I get a cool crossbow like that?)

2. Do NOT drag anything into the fort, you will most probably lose the quester's ring and they will have to start over at the first ring, not to mention getting a party or two (most of us were in our low 40's, some in high 40's low 50's, helping a 60 assassin and his guildless friends) overwhelmed by the adds YOU brought in.

3. Anyone who holds onto the chief's head and waits for someone to start the quest and hands in their head to Garadain while the quester is inside the fort getting the cheif's head themselves is, well, I won't use those words in this forum. Needless to say, this is not a nice thing to do.

Not having done this quest, these are only my opinions. Good luck.

Now my questions: Where is the info on the ninth ring quest? What spell works best to aggro the static Kromrif Elites and keep their attention? Should it be cast over and over? We weren't prepped beforehand for this one and I'd like to know more before trying to help again.

Once again, we were asked to help our guildmates old friend...

First try: 60 Assasin, 51 Mage, 45 Shaman, ~49 Druid, 49 Cleric and another, I think.
Killed front two giants. Attempted to pull Kromrif Elites single with Assassin. DIDN'T. Captain jumped in too. Result: 6 players killed

Second Try: Called in reinforcements: 60 Assasin, 51 Mage, 45 Shaman, 49 Druid, ~49 Ranger, 49 Cleric, 53 Ranger, 47 enchanter, 48 druid, 50 Cleric and maybe one or two others.
Cleared Front giants, cleared Captain, cleared blue giants, single pulled and killed Elite, killed other Elite (right side of giant fort), then moved to left side and did same.
Now there are 5 Kromrif Elites around a fire. The quester turns something in (can anyone tell me who or what, I'm curious) and the Elites spawn doubles and a Dwarf (?, never got to see her). The Elites or Peffin won't ever move, (unless damaged?). The key here is to sit behind the fire and aggro the giants to face the other way, supposedly with a AoE spell with no damage, then attack Peffin.
OK, we have enchantress stand near entrance and she casts a blinding spell, or something. Half the giants turn. Assassin runs in and starts to hit Peffin (she shoots arrows like a rapidfire cannon) and I send in the shaman pet(assisting, of course), mage pet following only milliseconds after. Well, I see the Kromrifs turn around and start pounding the rogue. NOT GOOD, I think. Pet is doing very little damage, I suppose, and the assassin goes down in like 30 seconds (Hey, he says they're yellow to him, what do you want?) The party has moved around the edge of the aggro range, and the ones going near the North building aggro the Elites that have repopped inside. Well, the druids and the rangers drew additional aggro first and they went down, the clerics go down after being summoned for healing, mage can't blast them fast enough and then gets chased and very little of what I was throwing at them (pet's dead, I think) is sticking and my heals can't keep up with the damage. Standing at the door to the giant fort now, I see the mage go down FAST. I, realizing there was no one left to save but myself, start to run, going around the corner and heading for GD zone (I thought I might be the only one to escape death, what was I thinking) only to get this:
YOU HAVE BEEN SUMMONED
You have been slain by a Kromrif Elite
LOADING, PLEASE WAIT...
You deleveled! Welcome back to level 44!

We gave up after the second try, it was late and we'd been killed in both attempts.

If you were in East Wastes on Bertoxx on Wednesday night/Thursday morning, you heard the "Fear not Peffin, I've slain another intruder!" or some such over and over. That would have been us....

We did this tonight with myself (the lowbie, lvl 35) and a party of 6 people around 50. Was a really cool quest. We did it because a caster wanted the item dropped (range slot item), but got the head as a bonus =)

Quest Broken?
# Jan 02 2001 at 7:41 PM Rating: Default
My friends and I have been trying to complete this quest for 3 days now. We have the marching orders, however Gloradin, the Dwarf Cleric that we are supposed to give the plans to has disappeared. We saw her every time we were at the dwarf huts while we were doing the other quests. But now, once we need her, she is gone. Has anyone been able to complete this quest since the 31st?
RE: Quest Broken?
# Jan 03 2001 at 3:42 PM Rating: Default
we've seen her and another group on our server gave her marching orders ... but garadain ate the head he was given ... my theory is because it was not the garadain who was given the 7th ring ... which SUCKS cause how are you supposed to know that the chick has to be there to take orders at same time after you give him the 7th
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 02 2001 at 1:43 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) we killed this guy with a group of 5 one night highest was a 45 druid lowest was a 37 sk he is tough but if your group is good u can do it. recommend fear kitting him he hits for double 130's. we had to kill him cuse he pop right on top of us sorry to whoever was doing this quest. he droped a nice range slot orb as well like 3 wis and 3 int and ac2.

RE: Moron
# Jan 17 2001 at 9:55 PM Rating: Default
Wrong Mr. Anonymous (the one posting "Moron". The Cheif is part of this step. Only no one prob triggered it if it didn't drop the head. The Cheif can spawn at the fort even if no one triggers the quest. So he was half right.
Ninja looting?
# Dec 28 2000 at 9:05 PM Rating: Default
This last step seems a little dangerous. Since the head has to be looted and turned in, couldn't anyone do it? I imagine it is no drop, or else they'd be getting sold on E-bay. I'm thinking you had best group with REAL close friends doing this quest.
Simple Garadain Protection
# Dec 28 2000 at 5:49 PM Rating: Default
To keep Garadain well away from danger, simply have someone with SoW attack him and train him away to the zone. Take him up to the bridge and then zone out. He should be away from any danger then and you don't have to worry about him dying.
Wow, nearly impossible due to other players

On a live server like tribunal, the chief is camped by people 24/7. I can't think of how you'd do this quest unless you inquired with them if you could loot the head or something.

Keeping garadin alive is not really the problem since a group is almost always doing the chief and blacksmith.
RE: Wow, nearly impossible due to other players
# Dec 28 2000 at 3:49 AM Rating: Default
Hm.... I think may be there will trigger to spawn alot of orcs when you give the quest ring to the npc, just like those Avenger spawn after the death of messager. If this really happen, those camping Chief will die in few seconds and will thx you very much ).

If not happen like I say, the quest is quite easy then.
RE: Wow, nearly impossible due to other players
# Dec 28 2000 at 2:22 PM Rating: Default
Yup you are right. ALL of the orcs are triggered spawns so anyone there already can easily be used by you as cannon fodder to help you complete your quest. Heck why risking YOUR life when you can get 5 or 6 other people killed I always say. Then you just walk in and kill whats left over. Pretty simple that way. :-)

Seriously now the ONLY mobs you have to fight are the 5 or 6 that spawn INSIDE the fort in the courtyard. The orcs outside the fort fight the Coldain army that comes with you. Inside there is the Chief and a few buddies NONE OF THEM ARE OVER 50 as posted in this writeup. In fact the only one who is not a wuss is the Chief. Just kill him and ignore the rest. Remember also that Garadain is a high level mob and is on your side. He will do some serious **** kicking also. There are NOT 30+ Orcs in this encounter however there are 30+ mobs TOTAL counting about 15 Orcs and 15 Coldain Dwarves. Doing this with players other players in the zone results in LDs so probably only want a single group to do this.
I dunno...

I was in the fort (Mithaniel Marr server) when Afterlife (the local Uberguild, very powerful) announced that they were going to do the quest in 20 minutes. They were pretty polite about it and gave us plenty of time to get out. When they started the quest...

Let's see, there were at least 30 orcs and giants on the outside of the fort, even with the Coldain kicking the crap out of them. Inside were a bunch more, including the Chief and some other named.

There were three full groups of level 58-60 players, all from Afterlife, including their guildmaster. They got SLAUGHTERED.

Granted, they did have some LDs, and the next day they returned and were victorious, but...ouch.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jan 17 2001 at 9:52 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Uber guilds blow cause they do stuff like this. They should have waited till people were done camping him. Guild leader there? Big woop doesnt mean hes good. Just means he best people person in the guild.
