Note: You can do turn-ins for this quest as low as dubious (he just won't talk to you).

Find Lieutenant Milven at the zone in from WL, go through the first gate, turn right, go up the stairs, he's right there.

You say, 'Hail, Lieutenant Milven'

Lieutenant Milven says 'Hmm, the guards at the gate sent a _____ to assist with the rampant problems? They shall have to be replaced with functional sentries so this does not occur again, but that is another matter for later.'

You say, 'What rampant problems?'

Lieutenant Milven says 'I trust that what is said here will not be repeated to outsiders, yes? Good. For some time now, we've been fortifying our position in the shrine to fend off giant attacks as they come. Though there hasn't been a major engagement between the shrine and the giants for quite some time, there have been strafing runs done by them in an attempt to test us. If you're up for it, I have a mission I need someone new to the shrine to complete.'

You say, 'What mission?'

Lieutenant Milven says 'We've been looking for someone that isn't from the shrine to find some of the giants that have been on these strafing runs and have them eliminated. You're of the perfect ilk because they will not recognize you as a friend to the shrine. Once you pry their steel-plated helms from their cold, dead heads and bring them back to me, your worth will be proven and you may show promise as an ally to the shrine.'

Upon turning in a Giant Warrior Helmet:

Lieutenant Milven says 'Well done, _____. You are proving to be worth the risk of sending a new recruit out on a mission such as this. If you feel this is the type of mission you're best suited for, feel free to slay more of these beasts and return their helmets to me. The fewer giants there are out there, the less chance they can continue their random attacks against us. I also may have another assignment for you if you're interested.'

Your faction standing with Claws of Veeshan has been adjusted by 15.
Your faction standing with Yelinak has been adjusted by 3.
Your faction standing with Kromzek has been adjusted by -7.

After hunting a bunch of giants for multiple levels on 3 different characters, this is my advice: If you are a melee type, get invis'd, ported, whatever.. just get someplace else. solb, CS if you can, wakening lands, whatever. Get somewhere, and get experience, level up.

If you're a necromancer, enchanter, shaman, magician, or bard.. level up, same as above.

If you're a druid.. haha. See if you can mouch off people hunting giants, or dot kite from like level 38 - 45 in GD. Everyone else though, once you level up, come back to Great Divide and just slaughter EVERYTHING you see. Elites, scouts, whatever. Just kill it.

If you break it down and it turns out that you solo, or you and your merry band of giant killers, only manage to fell 8 giants an hour -- that's a LOT of hours to get good enough faction. On the other hand if you're a 55 monk, 49+ necro, etc..so on & so forth, you just come back and kill every giant you can find and will probably kill a few hundred giants in a single evening, raising faction a lot quicker.

Some people express concern for level difference vs faction gains. While I am no expert on this issue I will say that I've had level 51 characters gain CoV faction from drakkel dire wolves in the great divide.

Not to mention that any other zone you could be hunting can very well have much better drops..

Unless you're one of Jerry's kids and run around with some army of everquest players that never leave their computers, you probably won't readily be able to just stroll in Kael Drakkel and start collecting faction.. soooo...

Just my opinion though, and what do I know, I've only been around longer than half the verant customer service department (start date April 17th, 1999)

Sneak/Hide?

Curious has any rogues tried the sneak/hide approach? It works with merchants I am kos to so will it work on a quest? Never tried it but it is worth a shot!!!

Most mobs turn around when you hail them thus they smack the crap out of you unless you hide really qucikly

Actually, Sneak / Hide is a very effective way to raise your faction. It's absolutely possible. Proof of this... You have to S/H to turn in your box to spawn the general for your Epic... the MOB you turn in to is KoS.

I been killing Giants in Kael for 3 days now. Been at the Arena and by Bank doing them. And still I am KoS in SS. Must have killed at least near a hundred of them.

I was Ally with Giants before I started and either my faction is broke or stuck, or I have a long climb out of KoS with SS for being Ally with Giants.

I have not Done the Helm or Toe Quest yet cause I didn't know about it at all till last night. Wondered what the toes and helms might have been for. Deleted about 20 of them or more each, could shoot myself for that cause of the faction it would of gave.

My 60 Druid was ally with Giants too but hes now threat in SS. So I hope I am close at least.

Posted this so those that wondered how hard it is to get out of Ally with giants to a decent faction in SS might be. Helms and Toes might help go along ways with the faction. Like Dwarf heads did for Kael. But apparently killing giants in Kael even at the arena is not doing a heck of alot so far. Have no choice but to continue killing them though so I can get Helms and toes for the faction quests.

You sure you have involved in killing those gaints? You must either heal a target that is killing the gaints or attack the gaints to get the faction hit, just a reminder. Btw, it can take 3-4 nights of hunting Storm gaints to improve the faction from Ready to Attack to Dubiously.

Just an FYI:

I hunt in kael a lot and sometimes just healing isn't enough to get faction. I load a stun or root to throw onto the mobs to assure the hit. Even if the spell is totally resisted (or immune in the case of giants).

Add a root to insure faction hits

I turned in 4 gaint helms and 3 Toes from the Kael Areana. You get +15CoV faction for each hand in. I did the turn in while I was indif and it jumped me up to Amb. I handed it to Kcor and had no issues.

You don't have to go on a Kael Drakkel raid to raise your faction fast. I spent 2 days in the Great Divide this week killing Drakkel Dire Wolves and Frost Giant Scouts (mostly wolves since they are easier) and my Skyshrine faction went from Threatening to Warmly.

RE: Question
# Dec 13 2001 at 1:27 AM Rating: Default
no, a mez is a stun-like effect... if you mez something, it's still pissed at you, so won't care if you give him stuff... not posi, tho... mez them and see if they con any better/different than when they are unmezzed and beatin on ya lol

i doubt mezzing to turn in quest items will work, but it's worth a shot... i would recommend, tho, checking how they con while mezzed before losing any precious faction quest items

YOu can kill giants and wolves all day in great divide and ew and still be kos to Claws. You have to go on a raid or something, and go deep in kael, around the arena. The faction hits you get there will work wonders.

I went from kos to apphrehensive with dragons from one raid and a few dozen giants scattered around GD.

How many of each item do you turn in at a time?

I've got 9 giant toes and 3 Giant Helms. If I can get him to give me the quest do I turn in singles or in groups of four?

I'm currently dubious and someone is saying dubious isn't good enough. Is that true?

I stopped by Skyshrine last night to see if I'd finally moved my faction up from threatening. I was dubious, and so hailed Sentry Kcor. He gave the giant helm quest, so I turned in the one I had along and got faction. When I tried to turn in toes, he took them but didn't reward me.

I then used sneak to raise my faction to indifferent and was able to turn in the frost giant toes for a reward.
#Anonymous, Posted: May 27 2001 at 4:16 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Verant have trouble finding name for their NPC so they do backwards of real words pretty often there i well know exemple if u know sebilis u prolly know Tolapmuj a lvl63 guy near Trak lair which is Jump a lot backward ;)
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 17 2001 at 4:02 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) theyre called easter eggs, and if you look around they are EVERYWHERE in eq. There are more anagrams w/ the gods than there are in this zone(gotta know latin for some of em..like marr is a mispelling of mare, which I *think* is water in latin. also tunare-nature, e'ci-ice, tarew-water etc.) =P also the druid epic has a msg on it if you can read runic.....better stop now bc i can go on for hrs =P look around and you'll see what im talking about.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jun 06 2001 at 6:30 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Just a quick note, Jumpalot backward is Tolapmuj. But the mob near trak is named Tolapumj. Very close, but not quite. P M U J vs, P U M J.

charming does not work
# May 12 2001 at 5:53 PM Rating: Decent
Someone posted advising you charm the mob... charmed mobs will NOT give u faction. Instead what u can do is go with a chanter friend, run up to the mob u are kos too and open up the trade window. Have your chanter friend mez the mob beating on you... memblur it then inv you.

You will be considered indifferent to the mob and should have no problem turning in your quest item for faction.
RE: charming does not work
# May 22 2001 at 1:01 PM Rating: Decent
The only way you can open up a trade window with them is by being invised.

You can't 'actively' trade with a mob that you are KoS to.

Attempting to open a trade window with an NPC drops your invis. That's why you have to have someone else invis you AFTER you open the trade window, but before you press the give button, if you need that indifferent con that invis provides to do the quest.

Well, everyone saying the helm is dropped off 51+ giants in Kael, but I have gotten 4 in Eastern Waste from the Frost Giant Scout and Frost Giant Savage. Never the less, I turned them in and got exp and faction. So helms are not only dropped in Kael.
RE: Soulice
# Dec 07 2001 at 3:39 PM Rating: Decent
They seem to drop randomly off giants everywhere. Ive seen them drop Deep in Kael (gleed Dragonhunter camp) as well as in Eastern Wastes, Iceclad and Great Divide. As long as it isnt a named giant, they have a chance to drop the helms & toes. Good Hunting.

not broke
# Feb 05 2001 at 4:26 PM Rating: Excellent
The quests are not nerfed. Every time the quest givers in Skyshrine are killed, they have a chance of popping with another quest. they will ONLY accept the items for the quest they are currently spawned with. If Kcor is spawned with the toe quest, he won't give anything for helmets, but will for toes. fi he's spawned with helmet quest, he won't give anything for the toes, but will for helmets. Etc. The merc assigment quest seems broken though, he just gobbled mine up despite me rechecking that he had the quest before handing them in.
RE: not broke
# Sep 06 2002 at 4:32 AM Rating: Decent
Some quest NPCs regartless of the current quest they are giving accept item for all quest they are giving.

I have tried toes/helmets, Sentry Emil, Sentry Kale and all worked. FYI
Incorrect!
# Mar 27 2001 at 4:56 AM Rating: Default
He takes all three items (toes, helmets, and merc. assignments) at any time. I've been doing it forever. I just made it to dubious tonight with the Yelinak mobs upstairs and got me a nice screenshot of me and Yelinak dancing ;)

If you are looking to do the same, be ready to spend a lot of time questing. As far as I can tell, you only get +1 to your faction from ANY of the Skyshrine quests and you need 250 to get through threatening and you need 400 more to get through dubious to apprehensive (where you need to be to do the quests for Skyshrine armor).

Good to know this. I tried some toes on Kcor with Glares faction, but he said he wouldn't help me (in much more threatening language). got to get that faction up to dubious I guess. /sigh Maybe another two or three hundred giants will do it...

added 3/3/2001:
Using the fact that faction was taking 10 seconds to load, and I was indifferent to Kcor and Enots for that time period, I grabbed my bag of giant toes, took one in hand, zoned into Skyshrine and ran to the sentry to turn them in. He gave me exp, faction, and a small amt of cash. I could usually get two traded before I ran out of time and they reverted to dubious. After nine toes, I was still dubious (I've been dubious for ages!), so I killed a few mercenaries and giants. Behold! Then I was apprehensive to them! Whoohoo!

I don't know how long that Verant will allow this small loophole to continue, but make use of it while you can.
Nerfed in patch this morning
# Feb 02 2001 at 5:56 PM Rating: Default
Kcor and Enots no longer respond the same way, but instead tell you to go to Wysperwing who gives another quest (seems harder).
Helmets Drop in lots of places.
# Jan 26 2001 at 10:20 PM Rating: Default
Someone said that the helmets only dropped off 51+ giants in Kael Drakkel, but this is not true. I have not hunted much in Kael Drakkel so I don't know how often they drop there but I can tell you that they drop of things as small as Frost Giant Scouts as far away as Great Divide.

They are an incredibly rare drop out there... I soloed giants from 39 to 45, killing scouts and berserkers and got a grand total of 4 helmets in that time. That's a helmet every level and a half for those of you who are counting or, more useful, one every 150 kills or so.

Quest is there and faction dependant
# Jan 26 2001 at 10:09 PM Rating: Good
I've been trying to raise my faction here for a while and so I've been paying close attention to this quest. First, there are at least 3 different ways to do this quest, depending on your faction.

When I hit dubious, I went and talked to Kcor and he told me to bring assignments. I never tried this. At the time, however, I *did* give him 4 Frost Giant Toes. Nothing. Since Helmets were infinitly rarer, I didn't try turning them in.

Last night I finally hit apprehensive and went and hailed Kcor again. This time he gave me the helmet quest as described above. Cool, I turned in 4 helmets and conned him and am now indifferent.

While indifferent I gave him the two toes that I had on me at the time and got faction and coin. (Pretty good coin, I might add... Better than selling.) I am still indifferent.

The moral of the story... Don't waste helmets or toes until you are at least apprehensive. Dubious is not good enough to do the quests.

Frost giant toes do work and he also asks for mercenary assi
# Jan 10 2001 at 7:21 AM Rating: Default
I gave Kcor a single frost giant toe and he says "Ahh these will go nicely with the rest of my collection. Here is a small reward for your trouble." I got xp, +ClawsofVeeshan, +Yelinak, and -Kromzek

Kcor and Enots are like sentry Kale in that every time you kill them they can spawn giving different quests. The one I gave toes to actually said the following:

Hmm. What manner of strange creature might you be? Iksar you say? No matter, we are the sentries of the Kin, our lives sworn to protect theirs. Prove yourself worthy of our trust and you may pass.

I say: "How can I prove myself worthy?"

He says: In the Forest of the Wakened, beyond these walls live creatures that would do the Kin harm. Return to me the assignments given to the agents of the Storm Giants and you will soon prove yourself a friend.

It sounds to me he wants those nodrop "Mercenary Assignments" that the various mercenaries in wakening lands drop. So I gave him one I happened to have in the bank and he says nothing. Then I went out and hunted down 4 and gave him 4 at once. Again he says nothing. =( I think it's a broken quest, or he wants something else. Anyone have any luck with this?
RE: Frost giant toes do work and he also asks for mercenary
# Jan 10 2001 at 7:39 AM Rating: Default
I've never seen him ask for the toes, but I've also tried the Mercenary Assignments in 1,2's,3's, and 4 at a time. No dice. I don't see why they'd put any kind of timer on this quest so I presume it is broken.
RE: Frost giant toes do work and he also asks for mercenary
# May 15 2001 at 11:11 AM Rating: Decent
Kcor accepts mercenary assignments, each one gives the faction and other rewards. HOWEVER You need to be at Apprehensively or better; Dubious won't do for this.
