Since there is now no penalty for dieing under level 10, I dedided to take my Barbarian Rogue of the 9th season down to Iceclad to get the mask and to see Velious for myself.

Had a stack of mammoth meat from my days in Halas, and picked up an HQ cougarskin from a vendor in Freeport (they seem to have them there quite often).

Walked the whole distance from the icebreaker docks to the gnoll camp with hide and seek on, although it probably wasn't necessary since I saw very few wandering MOBs. I also kept close to the water in making my way around the island.

Turned in the items, and got the mask, then wandered back to the dock (didn't want to wait for the boat, so I simply committed suicide to get back to FP).

There is a soulbinder at the Iceclad docks now, so I imagine anyone with the components can do this quest -- just bind yourself, and make a run for it (might want to make sure there are some high level folks in the zone who can help if you do get into trouble, but my advice would be to do this quest sooner than later (before level 10, or wait until you are 30).

if Ergrez Shortpaw is in the gnoll camp...does it matter that i have killed 100's gnollys in my day??...or will i be attacked by them?

Is Ergrez on one of the main Velious factions, or can I do this quest regardless of my Thurg/Kael/Shyshrine factions?

am about to do this quest, looks very good, and especially you dont even have to kill anything besides the mammies which are all blue and even. i cant wait to replace my split paw hide mask.

I did the quest yesterday with meat from everfrost and i got the mask lol. So it works )

I know theres a meat store in the Coldain city. I dunno if they sell mammoth meat but it might be a good idea to check the place out first. By far easier to buy them then fight and get them.

First, I'd like to say, that as a lvl 30 ranger doing this quest, I think the mask is worthwhile. The AC is better than a Braided Beard of the Coldrian (AC5, I think) plus it has DEX and AGI stats, and 10HP can make the difference between life and death, so really, if you're complaining this item, you must already have something better or have the money to go get something better. I didn't, so I did this quest, and I'm quite satisfied with the end product.

Secondly, it is possible to get all the ingredients you need between EW and IO. My group was hunting cougars, so I got one pelt as drops. The other one I bought off the pirates at the igloos, but they do NOT always have one available.

The mammoth meat you can get from hunting mammoths in EW! This might seem a little too obvious for some people, but you don't need to go to Halas to get mammoth meat. (On the other hand, if you're coming from there, by all means, buy some mam-meat and you're ready to go.) We had a group 30-38 hunting "wildlife" by the EW/IO bridge to complete the shawl quests, and we killed a few mammoths, the meat was easy to get. You might even be able to buy it off the igloo guys if somebody sold them theirs.

You go to Ergrez Shortpaw (not Ergriz, his helper without a last name) and hail him. He is located in the gnoll camp SE of the Tower of Frozen Shadow. The gnolls in this camp are indifferent and do not seem to be KOS; I walked right into camp w/out sow on and was not attacked. He will tell you something about how he's the tailor for his clan, etc., and will say how he can make armor if you tell him what you have:

"Hail Ergrez Shortpaw". He will not respond so you ask, "what armor?"

Then you have to tell him what skin you have, in this case, "I have high quality cougar skin."

Ergrez Shortpaw growls loudly. "I not like making things of cat fur. Smells bad, hurts nose. You want me to work with that you bring food, lots of food. You bring me mammoth meats."

At this point, give him the skin, and the 2 mammoth meats (unstacked of course).

It will say something about Ergrez working a while with the furs. It will NOT tell you that you gained experience, faction, or anything else. The mask will appear in your inventory. Ta-da... a nice lil' piece of nodrop face armor!

Ok, I gave Egrez the hide and 2 mammoth meats unstacked and got nothing back, I'm assuming I gave these to the right gnoll, the one who says he is learning to make things. Anyway, he regards me apprehensively, could this be why I didn't get the mask? If so, how can I raise my faction with him, as there's going to be no other way of getting my hands on this no drop item.

I spent hours trying to /auc or loot a HQ skin. I decided to check the gnome merchants just for the heck of it, and sure enough, he had a HQ skin. Check the gnome merchants.

i still would take this mask its far better than my grotesk mask being lvl 40 i think i need an upgrade =)
