You say, 'Hail, Ziglark Whisperwing'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Welcome to the greatness that is Skyshrine, ______. I am Herald to our great leader, Lord Yelinak. It is my position to make sure that all is running in an orderly and functional matter in the mighty shrine before you. I handle the guard assignments as well as granting access to pass through the shrine. If you'd like to find out about either of these, please just ask.'

You say, 'What access?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'You may have seen the large monument in a pond out in the commune area on your journey to see me. This is not just a monument to our great Lord Yelinak, but also a portal to the cold recesses of the Cobalt Scar. Access is, however, only granted to those who are worthy to be called allies of the shrine.'

You say, 'I am worthy.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Perhaps, then again you only say that so you might gain access and plunder through the riches beyond the portal. We shall see. If you truly wish to prove yourself, you will need to entertain a bit of a challenge.'

You say, 'What challenge?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'We of the kin have a contact within the giant regime, named Wenglawks Kkeak. He has information on the movements of the storm giants through the arctic homelands of Velious. We have been in contact with him for quite some time, however, as of late, our couriers have been lost on their way to met him. As you can imagine, this worries us and makes it rather difficult to keep abreast of the movements of the giants. What we needs is someone to find Wenglawks and deliver the payment to him, so that we can gather further information on their movements.'

You say, 'I will deliver the payment.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'As much I figured you would say that. You must take this request for the information and give it to him, along with 200 platinum pieces. Only then will he part with the information. Once you have it, bring it back to me and your worth to the shrine will be proven.'

You receive a Message to Wenglawks. Wenglawks may be found in Kael Drakkel in the back room of the noble's house. If you have appropriate faction, give him the message and the money. There may be hostile creatures nearby that you need to dispatch first.

Wenglawks Kkeak says 'Here is the information your employer requested. Now be gone. I have more business to take care of.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Message to Herald. Head back to Skyshrine and give it to Ziglark.

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'I appear to have mistaken your declaration of worth as a phony attempt at bravado, and do apologize. You have truly proven yourself worthy of the shrine, and in short order as well. For your troubles, and as a token of your worth to the shrine, I grant you this key to traverse into the lands of the Cobalt Scar. Praise be with you and good journeys always, ______.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Shrine Key.

what are the words?
# Feb 21 2001 at 4:50 AM Rating: Default
What words do i need to start this quest? What do i ask him? I am dubious, and nothing has happened yet when i hail him?
RE: what are the words?
# Feb 22 2001 at 2:46 AM Rating: Default
hmmm, i got quest when i was dubious...maybe you have to be dubious plus a little
Hero bracer is like that, you can just barely be into the amiable and not get the quest, but if you do a couple more quests you will get the hero bracer quest but your faction is still amiable, not kindly.

As far as I remember I just hailed him and answered the keywords, dont think the words had brackets, but not to hard to figure out

Also, maybe you have to talk to the sentries first, because when you do, they tell you that Ziglark is expecting you, maybe that has to be done to trigger Ziglark to talk to you....I know I definitely did that first

wenglawks and his walk..
# Feb 19 2001 at 6:09 PM Rating: Default
How often does Wenglawks leave his house? I waited around in the safe corner for about 40 minutes and he didn't leave his room. he was definately up, I ran in invis and poked him a few times. he simply wouldn't leave his room. is there some way of making him leave? thanks

I'm wondering that myself. I've waited for over an hour ( had to refresh DMF ) and nothing.

Is there any set game time he's suppose to do his stroles?

The one time I've seen Wenglawks leave the house was at 10pm game time (or just after). I've seen on another topic that he leaves between 8pm and 10pm.

He walks up the ramp towards EW zone, but at the bridge he turns left and goes into the house with frost giant commoners in it. After a couple of minutes he comes running out and goes back to his 'office'.

On the way to the house, he walks slowly, but there was a watchman following him not far behind. On the way back he moves too fast for you to be able to give him both items (unless you are still SoW'd, maybe).

I managed to give him the 200pp on the way back, but he ran off before I could give him the note and a watchman spotted me. :(

An idea that's just occured to me: The commoners are on normal giant faction (scowls to me anyway), and there are a couple of dire wolves around too. However, they are all pretty low level, so with a reasonable group (or a couple of very high-level PCs), you could keep that area cleared until Wenglawks turns up and just hand him the note (or other quest items) in peace and quiet. I don't think any watchman path up there, but I'm not certain.

I spent six HOURS waiting for him to leave the room I swear its bugged or something although I did see him moving around like 2 weeks ago, although I was only threatening to dragons at the time and didnt have the note for him yet. Was the most boring and pointless camp I've ever done and he still didnt move. I've seriously thought about just killing the dragon for the key but I truly want to go through kunark and velious with out ever killing any of the dragons. I petitioned and the gm said that no one else is complaining and that I should just be patient. *sigh* i died once when invis wore off while i was seeing if he was still there (it seems to wear off A GREAT DEAL once im inside his house, lots of running out) and almost died 3 more times when i only pulled one of the lesser storm giants when invis wore off. For all the effort to get to dubious with the dragons it really stinks I had to put up with this for the key, and i still havent gotten it yet. Oh well i'll keep trying I guess.

Just a note for those of you trying to complete this quest and hunting KD at the same time (the truly safe way to do it), if your puller were to accidentally bring Wenglawks into the whirling blades and whistling energies of your hunting group(s) there is no faction for killing him. Apparently, his giant heritage cancels his Claws faction and his help to the residents of Skyshrine cancels out the giant faction.

does killing him give you the note?
Verant doesnt like Dragons?
# Feb 17 2001 at 10:16 PM Rating: Default
Really seems that Verant is encouraging us to take the side of the Giants here. This quest is ridiculously dangerous to do, but since I am kind of Rping my experiences in Velious, I want to preserve my dragon faction, besides, it would be a huge amount of work to go the other way and repair faction with giants. Ive been killing them almost exclusively from 45-50. So I think is really screwed up, the Cobalt Scar key is something I want so I can explore the rest of Velious, but I have died twice trying to get it. Only just now found out that Wenglawks does come out of the house. I spent quite awhile hanging out in the safe spot behind house to see if he would come out, then finally decided there must be a way to hand in note and money while he's in the house. There just isnt. However, a person could very easily just kill Whisperwing as he is only 27, and spawns in a room at the end of a hall that has no other spawns nearby (or at least the time I went there, I saw no other spawns near him. I've been tempted to just go kill him for key, but I'm afraid he would probably give a huge faction adjustment if I did. I'm dubious in SS right now, and I'm fairly sure killing Whisperwing once would take me back deep into glares, if not scowls. Then I'd have to kill a bazillion more giants just to use SS. So I guess I'll be spending alot of time invised in Kael waiting for Wenglawks to walk out...

how to hand in cash and note
# Feb 14 2001 at 3:35 PM Rating: Decent
When Wenglawk walks up the ramp, there is one other giant that follows the same path. You'll notice they go at seperate speeds, so you can time it when they are farthest apart.

I first handed him the scroll. re-invised, waited till he came back up the ramp again, and gave him the cash.

A lot easier than trying to run and hand him both things at the same time.

# Mar 14 2001 at 2:45 AM Rating: Decent
This will work until VI decides to 'fix' the quests.

My suggestion would be to carry exactly 200 plat ( no playing with scroll bar ) and then hand him the plat right away. Have item in gen inv so you can quickly get that to him too. Then get hit give, get the note, invis, and your set.

Now .. getting him out of the room is the hardest part. Hessen (sp?) saw through my invis ( doh! ).
just a suggestion...

Faction nerfed
# Jan 18 2001 at 8:13 PM Rating: Decent
I completed this quest last night. At no time during the quest did I recieve any faction. So it looks like either VI nerfed the faction bonus, or introduced a bug and it is not giving faction.
RE: Faction nerfed
# Jan 31 2001 at 12:10 PM Rating: Default
Yep. The same thing happened to me. After reading a post by someone who said their faction went from dubious to apprehensive when they got the key from Ziglak, I did the key quest with the expectation I could improve my faction. But I recieved no faction adjustment at all. I was very disappointed about it too.

Given that I've died 3 or 4 times trying to do this quest already, if there's no faction bonus I may just pay someone who likes Giants (or doesn't care) to kill Ziglark and let me loot him.

Easier to shell out 200pp to a PC than hang around in Kael trying not to die.
Great Faction / Methodology
# Jan 15 2001 at 12:06 AM Rating: Excellent
Ok - several things:

First, the giant that you must give the key to is Wenglawks. To get to him, zone into Kael Drakkel from Wakening Land. Go past first guard post. Continue down the hallway and you will see what look like two little houses on the left (really one L-shaped house). Wenglawks is in the back room of the house. Do NOT try to give him the note and the 200pp there because the other giants will kill you. Just stay outside the house in the corner to the left of the door and wait. If you lose invis that is a safe spot to be while you re-apply. Sooner or later he will walk out of the house and up the lefthand ramp. At that point you can cancel invis and hail him, then give him the plat and note for a nodrop note you return to the herald for the Cobalt Scar key

Notes:
1) You must supply the 200pp. Basically you are paying 200pp for a key.

2) Wenglawks is not on giant faction. He is indifferent to everyone. (believe me I am maxed on KOS to giants). He will however join in and help kill you if you are attacked by other giants. Probably to maintain his cover...

3) THIS QUEST DOES GIVE FACTION! I instantly went from dubious to indifferent with Skyshrine residents. Herald, sentrys, drakes, etc. now are indifferent to me.

Now I can shop, bank, etc. in Skyshrine! Woot!

I completed this quest today on the Brell Serilis server. There is NO faction increase for either part of the quest - handing the items to Wenglawks, or giving the result back to Ziglark. I strongly recommend against doing this quest - I spent 300+ plat including all the invis potions, and was hoping for some faction increases, no such luck. I spent a long time working on it, and was really disappointed.

This method absolutly works. I was able to hand in my note and 200pp while he was walking, and voila, I got the message to the herald. The faction was funky though. It did not go up. :(
Getting Wenglawks to stop...?
# Jan 17 2001 at 2:25 AM Rating: Default
I have tried every conceiveable response after hailing Weng. Yet he will not stop. A guide even came a tried to repath Wneg because he seemed to be getting stuck in walls. There is about a 10 second window at best between the time Weng comes up the hallway and the time the guard follows him.

Is there a particular series of questions or responses to get him to stop long enough to give him the scroll and money? Beat my brainds out on this and was almost killed numerous times. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Luck
# Jan 08 2001 at 9:12 PM Rating: Default
So yesterday, my roommate and I made an explorer mule to check out the spy and the rest of Kael. While exploring, we encountered several raiding parties. One of the parties were clearing out the spy's room. The puller was nice enough to wait until I and some others finished our business before pulling the spy again. I still can't believe our luck at getting the Cobalt Key.

The other Giant
# Jan 07 2001 at 12:21 AM Rating: Default
In the room where our spy is there is another Giant. I have tried 3 times and each time I try to turn in the note and 200pp the second giant starts beating on me with our spy jumping in to help. Since the spy is beating on me I cannot turn in the note and plat.
The spy does con indifferent to me untill the other giant starts beating me to a pulp.

The only options I've come up with is to bring along an enchanter to take care of the second giant while I do my bussiness with the spy..

Or get a monk to split pull the spy to a clear area and FD..

Other option was to bring 2 or 3 groups in and clear out the building..

Please help, I've got over 300 kills into my dragon faction just to get this quest and I really do not want to take the negative hit.

When you are invised and hand someone something, the effectiveness of the INVIS goes away and they can see you. It probably took you two clicks to get it to hand the stuff to the spy, if you remember. The first one cancelled your invis, and the second one handed the stuff to the spy. Oddly enough, the invis Icon stays in place, but if you CON the surrounding mobs after you try the first click, you will see that they all are back to the non-invised faction messages. I think they did this to stop people from running quests by invising while turning in items when their faction was low for the mob.

You can still get around this by having another person in your party that can cast invis. If the mob doesn't KOS you, (i.e. dubious faction or such) then you can hand the item to the quest mob, then before you hit the GIVE button have your group mate invis you. Once invised, hit the button and the quest will work IF it can be done with indifferent faction. I haven't done this in quite a while, so there is always a possibility that Verant may have nerfed it. I have used it to repair some players' beta neutral in highpass before, although it has been several months ago.
Other person's inviso doens't work
# Mar 13 2001 at 3:32 AM Rating: Default
I tried handing in the note while invised by another person and it drop as soon as I clicked on the spy. Only way to do it without killing the drake or all the giants in the room is to catch the spy when he takes his stroll.

I don't know for sure, but I'm thinking that Ziglark doesn't supply the 200pp, that you have to pay it out of your own pocket.

If you ever want to get to WL or CS, though, and don't know if the dragons are watching the teleport circles, you will have to run through Kael, WL, and SS to get to Cobalt Scar. Not good to ruin dragon faction unless you like to go on foot. Too late for a lot of people though.

Dragon (Claws of Veeshan) is awfully hard to raise, also. I must have killed hundreds and hundreds of giants getting the last few levels (43 to 47) and they still Glare Threateningly at me.

This faction mess is going to make it difficult for group situations. Imagine that I have good dragon faction and others in the group don't. The first time one aggroes a mob with dragon faction, I'm going to have to either damage my faction or not help the group member.
RE: Free cash?
# Mar 14 2001 at 2:53 AM Rating: Decent
Hard to raise? I didn't even take a lvl killing giants and I'm dubious to the dragons now. Maybe it was all the wolves we kill too? Don't know.

I only have 247 recorded kills for CoV. No clue what I coned before I started to kill the giants though. I decided to check my faction when I was in WL running the Phenocryst's Focus quest, and I was dubious.

Working on getting my CS key now. Waiting for Wenglawks to come out of the spy building really sucks. I took a look in there, and Helssen pounded on me right away ( appears he saw through my invis. I really have to check my logs to be sure ).

Spy's Name
# Dec 19 2000 at 12:16 AM Rating: Decent
Spy's name is Wenglawks(sp).

He is in the first house on the left coming from Wakening Land in the back room of the house. The house has Frost and Storm Giants in it, nothing sees through invis. Wenglawks con'd indifferent while others con'd KOS if visible.

There is a giant quest that asks you to get hold of proof that Wenglawks is a traitor. Sounds like it would be one of the two notes involved in this quest as well

Aggroing Giants
# Dec 27 2000 at 9:30 PM Rating: Good
When I first did the quest I was able to do it without aggroing other giants. However later I went back and there was a Noble Helssen in the room who aggro'd when I became Visible.

Like all quests you can't stay visible when you hand an NPC an item. I have heard a couple ways to solve this issue.

1) We saw Wenglawks wander out of the house the other day when we were hunting near there, this might have been after he was aggro'd so we don't know if that had something do with that or not.

2) You could train the other giants, or giants in his room out of the area, zone, then comeback and do the quest. Becareful you might put Wenglawks in a place you don't want him.

3) Noble Helssen probably wanders out of the room on occasion too, dunno how often or for how long but you might be able to do the quest then without aggro'ing him.

Properly timed bard invis, get several bards, have them start the songs at slightly diff times, can get you invis 1 per 3 seconds per bard playing. Thinking this would recloak you before agroing noble, and yes my bard can turn invis after starting a turn in, ive watched the faction go from dub to indif with the trade window open, unless of course theyve changed (NERFED) that
