You say, 'Hail, Ziglark Whisperwing'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Welcome to the greatness that is Skyshrine, ______. I am Herald to our great leader, Lord Yelinak. It is my position to make sure that all is running in an orderly and functional matter in the mighty shrine before you. I handle the guard assignments as well as granting access to pass through the shrine. If you'd like to find out about either of these, please just ask.'

You say, 'What access?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'You may have seen the large monument in a pond out in the commune area on your journey to see me. This is not just a monument to our great Lord Yelinak, but also a portal to the cold recesses of the Cobalt Scar. Access is, however, only granted to those who are worthy to be called allies of the shrine.'

You say, 'I am worthy.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Perhaps, then again you only say that so you might gain access and plunder through the riches beyond the portal. We shall see. If you truly wish to prove yourself, you will need to entertain a bit of a challenge.'

You say, 'What challenge?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'We of the kin have a contact within the giant regime, named Wenglawks Kkeak. He has information on the movements of the storm giants through the arctic homelands of Velious. We have been in contact with him for quite some time, however, as of late, our couriers have been lost on their way to met him. As you can imagine, this worries us and makes it rather difficult to keep abreast of the movements of the giants. What we needs is someone to find Wenglawks and deliver the payment to him, so that we can gather further information on their movements.'

You say, 'I will deliver the payment.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'As much I figured you would say that. You must take this request for the information and give it to him, along with 200 platinum pieces. Only then will he part with the information. Once you have it, bring it back to me and your worth to the shrine will be proven.'

You receive a Message to Wenglawks. Wenglawks may be found in Kael Drakkel in the back room of the noble's house. If you have appropriate faction, give him the message and the money. There may be hostile creatures nearby that you need to dispatch first.

Wenglawks Kkeak says 'Here is the information your employer requested. Now be gone. I have more business to take care of.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Message to Herald. Head back to Skyshrine and give it to Ziglark.

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'I appear to have mistaken your declaration of worth as a phony attempt at bravado, and do apologize. You have truly proven yourself worthy of the shrine, and in short order as well. For your troubles, and as a token of your worth to the shrine, I grant you this key to traverse into the lands of the Cobalt Scar. Praise be with you and good journeys always, ______.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Shrine Key.

After the Skyshrine revamp, Ziglark Whisperwing is now further away from the WL zone line. From the WL zone line, go past the Cobalt Scar portal and through the gate. Take the next right and he is in that room.

You can kill him in place, or...

I pulled him to the WL zone line so my healer could zone to avoid the faction hit. As a 56 ranger I was able to harmony (the low level harmony) all of the mobs in his room and then pull him with ensnare. I harmonied each mob along the way as I pulled him towards the WL zone line and didn't get any adds.

I was max ally to begin with and was still ally after the kill.

Don't bother with quest
# Mar 09 2003 at 8:09 PM Rating: Default
Hmm. Which is better -- a quest that requires insanely high faction (Ziglark won't even speak to me at amiable) & a full raid to access the hand-in guy, Wenglawks (I have NEVER seen him wander -- GL if you want to camp that event for a few days, 24/7)... OR just ignore roleplay, take the hit, & mack the stupid mob that drops the key? Gee, tough choice -- GG Sony on designing this one.

/whine off

USEFUL INF: the other mobs in the room DO add as of 9 March '03 for a level 49. All mobs there were dblue. I was solo, & after taking a couple of nukes had to give up on the charmkiting attempt & run to WL zone (/cheer Selo's). I think 1 group around this level should have no trouble provided there is a mezzer available (not sure multitanking or root-CC would work due to the casters, but I didn't see just how many of them were casting).

Hi Snap

I saw Wenglawks wandering yesterday. Im KOS in Kael but he was indiff to me. Killed him and got no loot (quite easy kill for 56 monk and 54 cleric, but could not slow him with 54 chanter). No faction hit either. He was at the merchants in Kael (marked 6 on eqatlas map) and then wandered South where we killed him

Hope that helps
Faction?

I have kindly faction with CoV, however when I tried this quest Ziglark would not say anythin other then " You need to prove your..." etc.. even when I used the other phrases he still said that. So after realizing it was a lost cause unless I get better faction I decided to chant kite him in that hall to the left. (Doing this only realizing i'd have to ask a druid or a wizard to come get me out). It was my on course of action. He didn't really put up much a fight, hit for around 90 max, and began healing himself at the end of the fight. I didn't notice his Hp's going up at all though so it must have been a low hp heal. After the fight was over I still con'd kindly to CoV, not much of a faction hit, and a hell of a lot easier then trudging all the way threw kael and back again for the key.

Although I really dont need the key since I can port to CS, I thought I would try this anyway. I am ally to CoV, and while Ziglark will talk to me and say he grants access through SS, I couldn't find a phrase that actually initiates the quest. I was ready to get the key by killing him, just out of frustration.

Ziglark Whisperwing is slightly more powerful than he used to be (he is now lb to 54), but you can still kill him for the Shrine Key. He also dropped a drake egg, plus 5pp and change.

I was able to pull him from his spot with no adds whatsoever, even through several blues in his area. You NEED to fight him out in the hall by the pool room. Otherwise Drez Fato will heal him (but not add) and make the fight much harder than it needs to be.

Once I pulled Ziglark out of his room and away from help, he was an easy fight. He is a very small hit against COV, probably 1 point. I was ally before I killed him, and I'm ally still.

Hiya,

As of today, the key is required again to go to Cobal Scar from Skyshrine. This has been reported as a bug... now fixed.
RE: Key is once again required
# Feb 09 2003 at 4:12 PM Rating: Default
It's not a bug, this is what SONY, the Evil Online Empire, wants. Although, why they no longer still require the dragon teeth before porting into the ring's, is anybody's guess.

I just assume that the Sony folk have their heads crammed so far up each others butts, they will never again see daylight.
No key needed anymore
# Jan 18 2003 at 11:05 AM Rating: Default
Correct. No key. Zoned Cleric and Enchanter and rogue from SS to CS without key. And then back from CS to SS without key. So yeah, it works.
Neither char had keys, neither was grouped with someone with a key.

New Directions to Ziglak
# Dec 19 2002 at 12:47 AM Rating: Excellent
After I wondered around a bit and got lost a few time I finally found Ziglak. To get to him for Wakening Lands is quite easy if you know the way. For those of you who don't here it is:

Zone in and go through the gate.

At the T make a left

Follow that around and take your next left.

Now your at another T.

Go right and follow that around take your next left.

After turning left you will come into the portal room for cobalt scar. It is a very large room with a staute in the middle of it.

Go straight across to the other side and go through the gate.

Take your first right and go back to the second room.

Ziglak will be on your left in the corner.

Hopefully this will help you.

Still accurate as of 4-29-03

This quest remains intact. Apparently it has been modified in accordance to the recent Skyshrine change.
Sentry Enots is nowhere to be found, but the updated quest starts and ends with Ziglark Whisperwing (now found at approximately +831, -548).

You say, 'Hail, Ziglark Whisperwing'

Ziglark Whisperwing says, 'Welcome to the greatness that is Skyshrine, Jebbediah. I am Herald to our great leader, Lord Yelinak. It is my position to make sure that all is running in an orderly and functional manner in the mighty shrine before you. I handle the guard assignments as well as granting access to pass through the shrine. If you'd like to find out about either of these, please just ask.'

Received "Message to Wenglawks" [LORE, NO DROP]

Upon delivering this scroll and the payment (200pp) to Wenglawks Kkeak in the Noble Building in Kael, you will receive a "Message to Herald" [LORE, NO DROP] that is to be returned to Ziglark in Skyshrine in exchange for the Cobalt Scar key.

Question about Skyshrine
# Oct 07 2002 at 2:10 PM Rating: Decent
I am non-KOS to CoV mobs, and would like to do the key quest. Problem is the turn in, in Kael. Has anyone executed the "train the giants away from the quest-giver" strategy outlined below?

(Note that I ripped the following text from another post.)
****
However, I do have something additional to add. I have used this several times to avoid having to wait for Wenglawks to take a stroll (which takes hours sometimes).

Have a Necro (with Harmshield) or Cleric (with Divine Aura) get a SOW and an invis (necro is best can self invis). Then go stand next to Noble Hessan (in wenglawks room) on the side furthest from Wenglawks. Have one of the people waiting to give stuff to Wenglawks hold the outside door open (while invis of course).

Now Pop your Harmshield and aggro noble - then run like the wind to WL zone. This drags mobs away from Wenglawks so folks can give him stuff while he stands there. Afterwards they can re-invis and stroll out, or gate.
****

The reason I ask is what prevents the quest giver from joining in the chase?
RE: Question about Skyshrine
# Nov 20 2002 at 10:52 AM Rating: Decent
Having camped the bank area a few times, and being the puller, I've noticed that the giants that aren't KOS to me won't pull with the rest. There could be two standing right next to him, I'd kick one and both of those would come, but now Wenglawks. Part of being a spy I guess, if he considers you an ally he won't help the giants kill you. (Unlike some guards on Luclin who will kill you if you train a mob to them).

Is this key actually necessary anymore?

Seems like a lot of hassle to get this key, when you obviously have to get into Skyshrine first to get it, then back to Kael Drakkal (if you're not KOS to the dragons, you probably are to Kael Drakkal!) all for a key to zone that you should have already been in to get to Skyshrine (I hear of very few people entering SS from Wakening Lands, unless they're zoning to get away from mobs!) I can only assume that this quest was actually necessary to be able to enter Cobalt Scar back in the days you needed a dragon tooth from inside the zone to be ported there. Obviously back then this quest was your only way into Cobalt Scar (and thus Siren's Grotto, Western Wastes, Dragon Necropolis, Temple of Veeshan, and Plane of Mischief) since you couldn't be ported there until physically entering the zone (to get your dragon tooth), and the only way to get there the first time would be through Wakening Lands (thus through Kael Drakkal first).

Now that you can simply pay a druid or wizard to port you to Cobalt Scar whether you've been there before or not, the only thing this key is good for is the convenience of being able to leave Skyshrine to Cobalt Scar without a port (if you don't have the key, the only ways out of Skyshrine is through Wakening Lands or a port). Just my opinion... but I think this quest is way too much effort for a minor convenience!

If it's faction you want, just try to get in on a Kael Drakkal raid; it's the fastest way possible to raise CoV faction (as well as Coldain... went from apprehensive to amiable after being on two raids here!)

I started fighing to Wyverns in CS and was told to run to Skyshrine if you need to run away from the Drakes (so I don't get a CoV hit). Did it for the first time this afternoon, and found out you still need the key to enter CS from Skyshrine.

So if you use Skyshrine zone as an escape, you still need the key.

The key isn't essential anymore, but it's so easy to get, you might as well do it just in case. As for gaining CoV/Coldain, it depends on where you go in Kael. The arena mobs all give the best +CoV (not counting named mobs), but no +Coldain.
To get the quest.

I am dubious to CoV at the moment and I have had hard time recieving the note. You have to say "I am worty" in order to get the note. Btw I was sneaking while saying it.
CoV Faction Hit
# Aug 22 2002 at 2:13 PM Rating: Good
For the record...

The main reason against killing Ziglark for the key is NOT Claws of Veeshan faction, it is Yelinak Faction.

Lord Yelinak is on his own faction from CoV.

If you've hunted Kael Arena, you'll have noticed that CoV faction raises and King Tormax Lowers. You don't see Yelinak faction raised. The opposite is true if you hunt Sky Shrine mobs. Yelinak lowers but Kromzek raises. Tormax is unaffected.

CoV faction is barely dented killing Zig but Yelinak faction is hit much more significantly. CoV is easily recovered but you have to quest much more to regain Yelinak faction and that means endless Helmets and messages to what's-her-face in Wakening /groan.

So, whether you do the Wenglawks quest or kill Zig, either way it's an effort; either you quest for faction or quest for the key.

Rogue want to try quest
# Jul 29 2002 at 9:21 PM Rating: Decent
Hello everyone. I am actually fairly new to EQ and have not been into Kael except fighting near the zone to WL. My rogue is my first character. I am level 48 and am interested in doing the quest instead of killing the creature. First off I like the adventure of a quest and second I am barely dubious to CoV at the moment(hit might not do me so good, hehe).

Could I sneak and hide all the way to Wenglawks Kkeak wihout being discovered? If so, should I enter from WL or EW? And once in his room, could I sneak behind him and turn the stuff in without being caught by other giants?

Thanks in advance for the help.

How to do...
# Jul 01 2002 at 9:50 PM Rating: Default
These are ways I have heard of and ways I know don't work.

1. I succeeded when I brought a Bard friend with me (I'm a Bard, so two Bards). I sang Invis Song to get us to the Noble's House. He sang Faction Song on the first Giant and we tried. He was slain by the Noble. We tried again and he Faction Songed every one in the house, one by one. I made sure to open doors so he could Faction Song from outside Agro range... This worked when he Faction Songed everyone... NOTE: Had had never once killed a Frost Giant yet. I couldn't do this as I had killed a few and couldn't get to Dubious... (he was Dubious with all)

2. I Invised to Weng, dropped Invis to trade quickly. With 1600hp I died before I could trade from the other Frost Giants in the House.

3. You can no longer trade while Invis...

4. I hear you can trade while Sneaking... But I haven't trained well enough so couldn't test this...

5. If you are attacked by the neighboring Giants Weng will attack you, even though he is on a different Faction. So I assume you can't clear the house short of him to do the quest... Not verified... NOTE: The Noble in this house is quite hard, this method could and should be tested, but wouldn't be easy...

Hope this helps some people out.

RECAP: So the best way to do the quest is to get the Notes from Ziglark in Skyshrine and have someone Dubious or greater to hand the notes to Weng in Kael.

Um, a couple of notes from another bard...

The bardic faction song only works on one faction at a time. Sing it again, to someone else, and benefit to the first faction disappears.

Also, the faction bonus is not transferrable to group members....

On the other hand, two other possible suggestions:
1) sneak while invis; if you slow down, you succeeded in sneaking. get behind the whosits before trading, of course.

2) charm Weng, then hand in your stuff while he's amiable. Of course, you will probably have to have the rest of your raid party hold off the other giants...

# May 21 2002 at 3:06 PM Rating: Decent
I've never tried FDing and handing in quest items. If I run into the room, feign death, and hand in the items, will my feign break after I begin to hand him the first item, both items, or at all? I want to try this quest since I love doing Cobalt Scar with friends, but don't want to rely on ports all the time :)

RE: Monk FD?
# Jul 18 2002 at 1:57 AM Rating: Default
I was in the outpost in OT once, and a level 60 monk doing some quest had to hand in 2 carnelians to one of the stone gargoyles. She ran up and FD'd. Handed in the carnelians while FD'd and got the quest piece done. I assume she was sneaking as well, snuck up on the gargoyle and FD'd behind it. I know FDing works, I have seen it. You do not break FD when handing in items.

Did this tonight (yes even though you can port in to CS now), I still wanted the key.

Just for info: 56 pally and 51 Druid
o Ported into GD, ran thru EW to Kael.
o Invis and sow, ran thru Kael to WL.
o Lev in WL and run to Skyshrine following RIGHT wall.
o Enter zone, guards at main gate see through invis, killed both of them.
o Go thru gate, and make a RIGHT at the 'T'.
o Go up stairs and pull the guy in the corner (only guy in room), and kill him.
o To LEFT in that small room you just pulled from, is another room, pull named drake.
o Killed him and looted key.

All easy kills (granted our levels), ones with most HP were the guards at main gate, they didn't hit hard, but did take many many hits to kill.

Safe Travels :=)
