You say, 'Hail, Ziglark Whisperwing'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Welcome to the greatness that is Skyshrine, ______. I am Herald to our great leader, Lord Yelinak. It is my position to make sure that all is running in an orderly and functional matter in the mighty shrine before you. I handle the guard assignments as well as granting access to pass through the shrine. If you'd like to find out about either of these, please just ask.'

You say, 'What access?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'You may have seen the large monument in a pond out in the commune area on your journey to see me. This is not just a monument to our great Lord Yelinak, but also a portal to the cold recesses of the Cobalt Scar. Access is, however, only granted to those who are worthy to be called allies of the shrine.'

You say, 'I am worthy.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'Perhaps, then again you only say that so you might gain access and plunder through the riches beyond the portal. We shall see. If you truly wish to prove yourself, you will need to entertain a bit of a challenge.'

You say, 'What challenge?'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'We of the kin have a contact within the giant regime, named Wenglawks Kkeak. He has information on the movements of the storm giants through the arctic homelands of Velious. We have been in contact with him for quite some time, however, as of late, our couriers have been lost on their way to met him. As you can imagine, this worries us and makes it rather difficult to keep abreast of the movements of the giants. What we needs is someone to find Wenglawks and deliver the payment to him, so that we can gather further information on their movements.'

You say, 'I will deliver the payment.'

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'As much I figured you would say that. You must take this request for the information and give it to him, along with 200 platinum pieces. Only then will he part with the information. Once you have it, bring it back to me and your worth to the shrine will be proven.'

You receive a Message to Wenglawks. Wenglawks may be found in Kael Drakkel in the back room of the noble's house. If you have appropriate faction, give him the message and the money. There may be hostile creatures nearby that you need to dispatch first.

Wenglawks Kkeak says 'Here is the information your employer requested. Now be gone. I have more business to take care of.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Message to Herald. Head back to Skyshrine and give it to Ziglark.

Ziglark Whisperwing says 'I appear to have mistaken your declaration of worth as a phony attempt at bravado, and do apologize. You have truly proven yourself worthy of the shrine, and in short order as well. For your troubles, and as a token of your worth to the shrine, I grant you this key to traverse into the lands of the Cobalt Scar. Praise be with you and good journeys always, ______.'

You gain experience!!

You receive a Shrine Key.

Seems there used to be a Sentry Enots you spoke to first, who referred you to Ziglark Whisperwing.

Is this still the case? I don't even see Sentry Enots even listed as a NPC or MOB on Illia.

If so, he probably disappeared after the revamp of Skyshrine several years ago.

Here is my experience at the Wenglawks turn-in.

I went there, solo Bard, invis. Found him in the Nobles room. Tried to Lull the other Noble. Died.

After CR I switched to Sneak mode with invis. Got into room and behind the chair. Forgot to drop invis. Tried to do the turn-in and Wenglawks killed me. (Might have been because I was still invis.)

On the CR I heard a bunch of talk about Wenglawks being a traitor. And I found him wandering back from the other area. Wasn't able to do the turn-in before he got to a populated area. So I decided to wait until he went "walkies" again. 4 hours later and he still hadn't budged.

A guildie came to help me and she tried to pacify him, but he agroed first and we both died. Again on CR I heard the same talk about Wenglawks being a traitor. And again I caught him just at the end of his walk.

Seems that a failed hand-in triggers his walk. During the walk he passes through a long stretch of empty coridor where you should be able to do the turn-in.

Good luck! After 3 deathcs I went to Skyshrine, killed Ziglark and looted the key.
RE: Info
# Sep 14 2005 at 8:38 PM Rating: Decent
Got my Shrine Key today after a failed attempt yesterday. I hope this info is helpful to others.

As mentioned, Wenglawks goes walkies from the room where he is normally found (the northernmost branch of room #4 on EQAtlas map), to the area around #5, 6 and 7 on the map. He stays there a while, has his conversation with the merchants there, then runs back to his room. Because of this, your best bet is to catch him on his way east. He will not stop when hailed, so you must do the turn-in "on the fly".

I camped in the corridor due west of #7. Wenglawks goes south before he turns east, so you will see him coming if you are looking west. There is only one wandering guard who patrols this corridor; he is very green to a level 59 magician and is no problem to solo. You want to take out the guard so he doesn't wander by and aggro while you are dealing with Wenglawks, because Wenglawks is social even though he is not KoS.

As prep, have your note in a general inventory slot. You don't want to have to mess with searching through bags to find it. Also, if Wenglawks gets out of range, the note will pop back into your inventory, so if you have a general slot open you will easily find it again.

When you see Wenglawks coming, take the 200pp out of your inventory and have it on your cursor. Give it to him when he gets in range, and make sure to stay right on top of him. Then take the note out of your inventory slot and give that to him also. When you hit "give" (if you have stayed in range) you'll find the item in your general slot. You do not have to converse with him to complete this turn-in.

I'm not certain, but I think Wenglawks normally only goes walkies once a day (i.e. 24 real-time hours). It seems to happen around five hours after he spawns (or at least after a server reset). Since DoD just went live, I had two chances to do this, learning from my mistakes on the first try (I expected him to stop when hailed, didn't stay close enough, and ended up with the note back in a bag in my inventory where it took too long to find again).
Faction needed?

As max ally to CoV (a few Vindi/Statue/AoW raids will make a dragon friend out of the lowest faction possible), I found it simple to get to Ziglark. Then once in Kael, invis'd all the way to Wenglawk for the turn in, pacify worked excellently on the Noble with Wenglawks and a roaming guard, did the turn in and succorred the cleric and I out again.

Voila! Key to Shrine in 10 minutes or less and no faction tanking necessary.

With amiable faction hailing recieved the reply "You need to prove yourself.." and he wouldn't give me the quest. So I just killed him and looted the key. I'm still amiable.

First off, I was Kindly considered, did a fair bit of killing in Kael, and have completed the 6th shawl. Went to Kael, Wenglawks is in the back room of the building about in the centre. He had Noble Helsson next to him, I was invis when I entered this room. I am a mage and cast my 61 air pet spell. I had Virtue and Fo7, I had 3.5 K hp's (luckely). Before I had the pet up, Noble H had cast on me and had advanced, pet took over, I went and did hand in to Weng. pet was at 50 % health Noble H was about 70. I cast invis ( a mistake) when I went invis, pet disappeared and Noble attacked me. Gated, recovered and gated with 40 % health, Noble hit me 6 times for between 100 and 400.

Hope that helps

Used Pacify
# Aug 22 2003 at 8:44 PM Rating: Excellent
Completed this quest tonight with warmly CoV faction. I used a cloudy potion to reach the building with Wenglawks Kkeak. I ran to the back room which housed him as well as Noble Helssen. I shut the door then stood in the NW corner and cast pacify on Helssen. I then ran along the north wall, handed in the quest items and gated without any trouble. The key was soulbound upon first use. I received no faction hits for either turn in but did of course gain experience.

Praise be with you and good journeys always, Braeaelin.'

My 56 Iksar Monk didn't have a Shrine key and I decided I wanted one when I was there with friends turning in some armor. I was Ally to CoV so I decided to risk killing Zig. I am 56, my friends were a 61 Warrior and 65 Druid.

The room was packed with mobs but I tried the pull without Harmony. He came single. Beat him up in the hallway to the left of Zig. He dropped the key, some drake meet, and a Mage spell: Summon Shard of the Core.

Funny thing... I con'd a guard on the way out and I was still Ally. Either I was really Ally or the faction hit on Zig is small.

Hi all. Yes...this is true. You can just go into the chamber and just pull him without any adds, except for the Patroller Victan (he's the one who wanders the hallway), but he was green to me and is much lower lever than Zig and you have to be in his direct path before he would even aggro you. And it is true...you don't get much of a faction hit...it's so small, it didn't make a difference. I went in there to get keys for both of my toons today (on Povar server). I two-match bot (play two toons at the same time; not to be confused with PL boting), and buffed my 55 warrior, full tilt with my 55 shammy...which I will tell you right now is very, very over kill. Probably could of just put a regen on my warrior and that would have done fine. Any hoot...I took him down quick...too quick...that I went back in the room to make sure I really pulled him. Checked my faction and it was still Amb. Did the whole thing all over again for another key....same results. Just make sure when you do this...you pull to the hallway...there's a healer in there somewhere...I was watching the caster spam from them...and one of them does heal...which would mean...like in most cases...they won't aggro you, but they'll heal him. Hope this helps....chow.

Broken or what?
# Jul 11 2003 at 6:29 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I've tried to do this quest like 5 times now. I've spent hundereds of pp in the bazaar getting helms and toes to increase faction. Currently I am amiable to CoV, but still can't get Ziglark Whisperwing to even talk to me. When did the get rid of Sentry Enots or did they just move him to a location that no one knows of? I know that I can just kill Ziglark Whisperwing for the key, but I roly play quite often and am looking forward to doing my SS armor quest. Any help on what faction level you need to get Ziglark Whisperwing to even talk to you or the location of Sentry Enots so I can try to actually start the quest as described in the walk-thru above would be greatly appreciated.

I just did this with a 51 Ranger, twice. First time he conned LB, 2nd BB. Respawn time was about 20 minutes. I harmonied all mobs in both rooms, then nuked Zig and ran out of both rooms and took a right down the hallway. I timed it so no patrollers were either in the room or in the hallway. Ranger was hasted, had about 2k HP, and had Rune 5 cast on him as well as Berzerker str. Both times he took less than a bbl of damage and look down Zig in less than 2 minutes. I was apprensive before and after 2 kills. The 2nd time I was just finishing him off when the patroling gurad came by and he did not interfere, so the harmonies might have been over kill. The key is nice especially for a non-gating/porting class.

61 Mage. Decided I needed the key this morning. I went to SS and it did not look good for killing Zig solo with no harmony or pacify or anything, so I got the item from Zig, went to Kael, walked in the room with Wenglawks while invis'd, and then closed the door. I gave the 200pp and item to Wenglawks then gated out. I took an ice comet before gate went off for 1120 but that wouldn't matter to anyone with decent hps...now I have the key. So if you can gate I would say this is the easiest way to do it solo....

Oh, you may want virtue in case the other guy in the room decides to hit you instead of casting IC...

RE: Loot

You "can", but since the revamp he has about 5 or 6 mobs in the room with him...definitely would need a group or lots of pacifying at the very least.
