Jaled Dar`s shade may be found at +1590, -120. The simple way to get into Jaled Dar's lair is to have a rogue with a 210+ skill in lockpicking to open the door. If simplicity isn't your thing, or you just want the key for yourself, you can obtain it one of two ways: Either a quest offered by Zlandicar or a quest offered by Neb.

Once you've found your way into the lair:

You say, 'Hail, Jaled Dar`s shade'

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'Mortal! You MUST aid me. I will have my revenge, and my rest!'

You say, 'How can I aid you?'

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'You must wake The Sleeper. He is our salvation, he will restore a new golden age to Norrath. It was a terrible mistake to subdue him, jealousy and envy led us to do it. I see all of this clearly now.'

You say, 'Who is The Sleeper?'

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'Kerafyrm, the best of us, what we should be. We imprisoned him in a timeless slumber aeons ago. I know how to release him, but I am no longer of the flesh, so I cannot do it myself. But you can accomplish this task!'

You say, 'What task?'

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'When the tomb was closed and the entry sealed, many dragons participated in the ceremony. They invested portions of their essence into the seal. The seal is part of them now. With the right talismans, I can show you how to make a key that will allow one to pass, as if they were of the First Brood. If you do not wish to do this for the good of all, perhaps you will be willing to do it for material riches. Priceless treasures are stored in the tomb, yours for the taking, once you are inside and have released The Sleeper.'

You say, 'What talismans?'

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'Sontalak, Lendiniara, Klandicar, Yelinak, and Zlandicar are all that are left alive of those who were involved in the sealing of the tomb. Each has a talisman. Bring me any one of these items, or a large enough piece from one of the talismans from a dead first brood, and I shall unlock its power, which will allow you entry into the tomb.'

You'll need to give him either a talisman from any of the five dragons of the first brood mentioned or a Shard of Hsagra's Talisman, which is dropped uncommonly from top giants (King Tormax, Derakor the Vindicator, The Statue of Rallos Zek, Velketor the Sorcerer).

Jaled Dar`s shade says 'Very well done. Here is how you unlock the entry. Seek out a great dragon statue in the Eastern Wastes, and use this key there. Not very different from how you entered my old domain, Veeshan's Peak, now, is it? Haha, yes, I know many things, even dead.'

The sleeper was killed by Conquest. Most of the guild attendees were banned or suspended. It caused quite a stir on all EQ related message boards about 6 months ago as the sleeper is supposed to be practically unkillable.

Conquest killed Kerafym by exploiting a bug, therefore it was not an official kill and shouldn't have happened. That's why they were banned.

I agree wiht the previous posters that the sleeper CANNOT BE KILLED. He was a creation of the mixing of 2 differently colored dragons which made him more powerful then any dragon ever before and was belived to almopst be as powerful as Veeshan herself. And there is also evidence of Lady Vox and Lord Nagafen possibly attempting to mate to creat another Kerafyrm so that they may rule Norrath. The point of VI putting in the sleeper is so that in the future, afet all of teh gods and demi gods planes are opened, the sleeper may be awakened in soem, huge event involving the fate of norrath so that they can make ti feel like you actually helped to save the world.
Ummm what!

I have never Been to the Sleepers Tomb.Nor Will I ever in all Likely Hood since I simply Do not have the time for the game ,What with family and employment and all. What I believe though is that the sleeper is going to be used as EverQuest's Saving Grace.Wit the Launching of the Legends Server Verant is taking the world of EQ to a whole new realm. Many things are still not represented. Not all the gods have a plain for one.The New SOL ability's added will make lvl 60 chars even more powerful then before. This is all in preperation I believe for a new Expansion. The Next Expansion,If My Theory is correct will be similar to velios in that it will be a strictly High Level addition. It will introduce new Planes,A few new mobs in the existing world and the Level cap would be raised to 70.It is only a theory. The reason I think this is what Verant would do is it would bring back so many High Level people that had retired. The SOL Abillty's are cool ButI don't think they open up the ability to kill new mobs or get even better loot enough to draw retired peeps back. That is why raising the level cap is the only way to bring high level chars back to the game.New higher Mobs New planes and Loot and maybe just maybe the chance to kill the Sleeper with a huge group of 70's chars would bring peeps back to EQ.I still think based on the HP and regen posted that even level 70 chars would not be able to topple him.But Then I don't know. It's just an idea.EQ is about making money for verant anyway so from a buisness standpoint it just seems to make sense to raise the level cap and make higher level planes.

Just a thought from a guy that plays sporadically. If I were level 60 and had fought all that could be fought and got the items I wanted I would probably retire to.If they released an expansion with lvl 70 and new planes and things I am sure that I would come back....

i agree with the thought that guys that killed all the sleepers little buddies may not be able to kill the sleeper exactly after- how about you get 160 lvl 60 peppes? 80 go in and kill everything, sleeper wakes up, 80 zone out and the ohter 80 zone in. and it COULD support 80 people- ive seen 150 people in gfay before

How many times does this have to be explained? The Sleeper is unkillable. Killing the 4 warders that guard his semi-eternal rest is what releases him. The "encounter designed for 70 people" is the 4th warder, whose death triggers the Sleeper.

Just for reference, Kerafyrm (anagram for "Mr. Freaky"), also known as "The Sleeper", has about 2,000,000,000 hit points. His regen rate is staggering (rumored to be 100,000 HP per tick). Verant demoed Kerafyrm at a Fan Faire with 8 bot GMs death touching him every 30 seconds. His HP bar never budged. (For those who don't know, a death touch is actually a 32K harm touch).

He has no loot on his loot table because he cannot be killed. There's no point in loading any data there.

His damage output is not tankable. You cannot tank him with any player in the game, even in the best of gear. His damage output is 1950 per hit, with full quads frequently (7800 damage per round), with almost zero delay between rounds. I've seen people who got flurried by him 3 times after they were already dead - that is how fast and hard he hits.

The entire point of Kerafyrm is to cause a one time dynamic world changing event. EQ is a pretty static game but the designers wanted one zone that could be done once and after that the zone would never ever be the same again. That zone is Sleeper's Tomb and this is why it is done that way.

There have been rumors of quests to "recapture" the Sleeper but Verant has denied those rumors on multiple occasions, the most recent being at the Fan Faire in Dallas.

Finally, let's assume we could muster 100 L60 rogues that are invulnerable. Let's assume that each rogue can maintain 120 damage per second output. Let's even assume that Kerafyrm stands with his back to our theoretical 100 L60 invulnerable rogues. Those rogues could do 12,000 damage per second. Now to be nice, let's assume we get a GM to turn OFF Kerafyrm's insane regen. It would take those 100 rogues 166,667 seconds, or 2777 minutes, or 46.29 hours, or in other words almost TWO FREAKING DAYS to kill The Sleeper.

Now, in real world conditions where the Sleeper kills a character every second and death touches another every couple seconds, how long do you think it would take before the entire server was dead under his feet?

Folks, The Sleeper is NOT killable. If you cannot understand that then you don't understand simple math. Go back to school please.

After he died, there was a systemwide brodcast. The Sleeper Brodcasts:AAAAAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGG! I WILL NOT REST PEACFULLY UNTILL I HAVE MY REVENGE!!!!! So there u have it. The sleeper can die. I was in Skyshrine as a 24 druid with a warrior and cleric hunting for armor near the CS portal.
I was just there to cast invis on the cleric and the SK looting the armor from the mobs killed.
Then all of sudden someone named Kerafym shouts and I did a who on the zone, which showed only the 3 of us there.
We all went WT...who is Kerafym??, then I was hit for with 1493 non-melee damage (turns out the other took about the same, so probably an AoE), then got hit with a kick for 896, which was more than enough to kill me eventhough I was buffed up pretty well (around 1600HP).
The warrior got a quad hit from Kerafym with all 4 hits being between 1400 and 1600damage (the damage would have put him somewhere around -3000HP from that single attack round), while the cleric got harmtouched for 20000 damage in the meantime.
We never saw the mob, only the "LOADING PLEASE WAIT...".
When we got back again, Skyshrine was cleared of mobs.

From what I can tell, this mob can kill anyone in 1 attack round either with harmtouch or the AoE and melee hitting for 6000HP+ per round.
Maybe highlevel players can avoid some of the damage, but I do not think so.
The warrior was level 50 with cleric and shaman buffs and did not even get to swing at it once, before he went down.

Btw. Western Waste was still populated after Kerafym, so he might not clear this zone or something might have happend.

Ok, listen. All of you who say "the sleeper has been killed, the sleeper has been killed." YOU'RE WRONG. I'm tired of hearing it, so quit saying it. The sleeper, as of now, and probably for a long time to come, is U-N-K-I-L-L-A-B-L-E. He was made this way for certain reasons that I do not know.

Ok everyone:

1. You can awaken the Sleeper by killing the 4th warder.

2. You cannot kill the Sleeper!!! I am sure many guilds have tried but one thing no one realizes is that no matter how hard they try to kill him once he Harmtouches the entire zone it is all over! I dont care how many clerics you have or how many ways you try to kill him trust me he is one of Verants little toys so they get enjoyment out of watching people try and kill him. Heck as far as we know if the sleeper even got close to dying a GM may pop in and either fully heal it or depop it.

Well thats my 2 cents. I have known many people to awaken the Sleeper but no one has EVER killed it!

Killed the SLEEPER ??
# Jan 07 2002 at 11:08 AM Rating: Default
Just reading through this . Wanted to add a few points .

A) All the people claiming the sleppers death have never ACTUALLY been to ST from what i can tell .

B) The Mob kills all the dragons basically caused he's mad about being trapped in that bubble and wants revenge since Veeshan (apparently it's creator) did not rescue it .

C) I'd have to agree, IF a guild managed to kill him by useing their healers to distract the mob while hiding in a Safe Area , They deserve it . VI would call it cheating cause their precious unkillable mob got smacked up.

D) Nothing is unkillable. All it takes is a little thaught . Obviouslly it's the 100% badest mob in the game . Noone will EVER zerg a mob such as this . The zone wouldn't hold up to the amount of people it would take to zerg it .. I bet with a little thaught and well planning and experience this mob could be taken down by roughly 85 lvl 60 peeps (especially after maxxing some important SoL skills )

Hey.

If you read the transcript of the emails between Verant and the guild leader of the guild who were 'abusing' safe areas, you'll notice a remark that the Sleeper battle is designed to take 70+ people. (I can't think who it was off the top of my head. Conquest, maybe? *Shrug*)

As far as the comment about killing the Sleeper by using safe areas goes, the guild in question were losing to Kerafym. It was the warders that they had been slaying successfully. (Admittedly, they had something like twenty-three people, which is not exactly what you would call a suitable party to hunt the Sleeper with. *Grin*)

Anyhow, that remark does kinda carry with it the implication that he will be killable. Having said which, at the same time, that's not to say he's killable at the moment. There's a suspiciously large amount of unfinished stuff in Norrath, after all. (Apparently, when he spawned in the above instance, he doubled spawned, one with a dragon model and another a human!) The other thing being of course, whether the zone could actually support that number of people.

And, before I get any grief, no, I haven't been in the Sleeper's tomb, nor am I likely to be anytime soon. So, I'm not claiming to be an expert.

See ya in Norrath.

Actually, Conquest was fighting Ventai, the fourth warder.

The Sleeper was not designed to be killable.

Hey.

I made the statement in my post that I wasn't claiming to be an expert. And, since I wasn't even sure of which guild were suspended, I think it was pretty clear that I wasn't claiming to make definitive remarks.

The only thing I posted which was intended to be a statement of fact, was the remark from Verant's representative, saying the Tomb encounter was designed for 70+ people. And, I still hold to that remark.

However, where I was not claiming definitive knowledge and had made this very clear, you have made a remark and seem to be expressing it as a statement of fact, where it is not actually so!

[li]Is there any record of a representative of Verant stating that the Sleeper is not and never will be killable?
[li]Are you an employee of Verant and in a position to know this is the case?
[li]Do you have awesome godlike powers of precognition?

Unless one of the three possibilities above are the case, your remark is a guess. A guess that you have attempted to pass of as fact. This being the case, your remark is no more meaningful than my own, but you have lessened your own credibility in attempting to pass off your guess as reality.

(Bear in mind that I will require some form of proof before accepting any godlike powers as being real. Otherwise, claims to this effect, will be rejected as insanity.)

I await the submission of evidence...

AlAaraaf.

Yeesh. All that flower language for you disclaimers, and you jump when spoken too.

Why do so many people come to the conclusion that Kerafyrm is unkillable? Perhaps it has something to do with the *fact* that, under no strategic circumstances, can *any* reasonable amount of people make the *slightest* attempt to present a challenge to the crystalline dragon that is more powerful than the avatars of the gods.

He, like most 60+ "boss" mobs, quads almost every melee round.
His quads are for around 1500 *each*.
His Deathtouch has a refresh of less than 2 minutes; possibly less than 1 minute.
He casts powerful AoE damage spells.
He can flurry, apparently at will (of course, this is like saying a particular type of bomb will blow you up more).

Now, any rational mind would come to the conclusion, based on this information, that Kerafyrm the Crusty-eyed is to everyone what Venril Sathir is to a lone level 1 iksar monk: instant death, barring the second he takes to kill someone (or somefive) else before you.

The poster you "responded" to [attacked], confirmed that the guild banned for using a safe spot was, indeed, Conquest. He then went on to say that the Sleeper was not designed to be killed. I didn't see him say, "I have mystical powers, and I predict...woo-ooo-ooo...that the Sleeper will remain the unkillable monster that he is."

You read both too much and too little into what they said.

And, I can say proudly, I have been surprised (killed) by the Sleeper *twice*. Hoo-ray for me.

He was the creation of norrath. He could be the destruction of Norrath as well. Time can be molded and changed The end and the beginning can not. Its our decision to decide which steps to follow

sleeper was released by the ashen vendetta on the Innoruuk server he violated all of ss and depoped ww <i was there and when he was realeased sontalak who i was talkin to disappeared> Then i got to hear about all the deaths as he was killin everything in sight. Sad thing is no more Gnome masks sceptres of destruction and many other items from the warders. NO they do not spawn anylonger.
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 17 2001 at 4:12 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) The Sleeper has been killed on several servers by a few of the larger more bad assed guilds. Unfortunately, VI then went on to permanently ban everyone who took part in those raids, forced the remaining guild members to disband and they made the Sleeper more powerful with an insane number of hp. (3.5 billion was what I was told). One person even told me he managed to get to a zone after the Sleeper was released and thought he was safe and was actually SUMMONED back through the zone. Don't even try awakening the Sleeper, because under VI's rules about deliberately causing xp loss to other players, just awakening the Sleeper and watching him go out to kill everything on Velious, including all the other players (causing xp loss for all of them) might be enough to get you banned.

That is the biggest load of BS I have ever read! Why the hell would he even be in the game if awakening him would get you banned? GM's have events where controlled mobs, that are overpowered for the zone, will kill several people deliberately. Do they rezz you? No! Do you see GM's getting punished for it? No!
#Anonymous, Posted: Dec 17 2001 at 1:42 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) a couple things to know about the sleeper 1. he can detect u no matter where u are in the zone and he will attack u. 2 HE CAN ZONE no joke he is a zoneable mob and on a couple servers he has gotten loose and rampaged. apparently his mission when awakened is to well kill everything he will attack all PCs AND NPCs good luck finding rezzes )

On Veeshan, the sleeper was killed a qhile back by Conquest. They were disbanded, and banned though afterwards for alledgedly using aggro "control" they would keep their clerics under the bridge so they couldnt get summoned or something... i dunno, their websites cool though, has some movies and pics of it.

I like to dispell false rumours...

Conquest did *not* kill Kerafrym, nor were they on Veeshan.

They were a guild on Lanys who used the aggro/CoTH thing to kill the 4th warder with about 18 people.
RE: killed
# Jan 14 2002 at 3:44 PM Rating: Decent
That's more accurate, Sheathed, but still not what happened.

Conquest was a guild on Lanys who used various questionable techniques to significantly damage but not kill the 4th warder with about 18 people, though warder lived and wiped them out. Verant responded by disbanding the guild and instantly banning many of its members, in direct violation of its own published policies. One technique was to use CoH to clear aggro (so Verant later changed CoH). Another technique was to fight with rez effects on, which counteracted some worse effect from the warder. Another technique was to use the geometry of the room to their advantage. Verant previously had not declared any of the techniques exploits or illegal, though they later did.
