The Coldain Shawl quest begins with Loremaster Borannin in Thurgadin. He's found near the Paladin guild at /way -305,+815.

You say, 'Hail, Loremaster Borannin'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Greetings, _____, please be seated and hear the Grand Historian, he is among the wisest of our people.'

You say, 'I seek to perform duties for the crown.'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Those eager to prove their loyalty to the Dain may do so by completing tasks that I have been commissioned to assign. If you wish to begin your service, return to me with four toes of our enemy, the Kromrif.'

Bring him four Frost Giant Toes (common drop from Kromrif giants). Upon turn-in:

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, well done! On behalf of the Dain I thank you for making a dent in the number of our sworn enemy. Please accept this as a token of our appreciation. It is trivial, I know, but if you are as loyal as you claim to be, it will increase in power over time. It just so happens I have a [task] to further demonstrate your loyalty, ______.'

Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Kromzek has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Kromrif has been adjusted by -5.
You gain experience!!

This leads into the second Coldain Shawl quest : Coldain Shawl #2: Cloth Coldain Prayer Shawl.

You dont have to wait a month

Verant only wants to say with it that the quest is not completly implemented. Wait for the next patch ;-).
NOT game time!

Did giant toes 9am december 7, 3914 game time.... tried again for the 4rth time to hand it in tonight and got "I still have not recieved any news on your new assignment". Turned it in january 7, january 20th, febuary 6, and febuary 22(tonight). Definatly not a month game time.

Not the only solution possible necessarily, but a good possiblity though. Ill keep turning it in randomly and post when something happens.
I'm thinking game time too..

Verant is very bad about finishing things, so I don't think they'd leave this up in the air because it would be unfinished indefinately.

They seem to be putting in several game time type things in the new quests. Another one i can think of is the food guy in thuragin who says "i have no tasks this week." I don't think a full week has passed though in game time from the time I asked. Or, maybe it is just some goofy line of a non existant quest.

ill do this and make a none then try for a month later gametime and see what gives.

real time

i think its just the roleplaying way for verant to say we haven't finished the quest yet, give us a month

Looks like there may be a few things that either were not in place when Velious went live or that they planned all along to introduce in stages... the Crossbows the dwarves are carrying have a similar teaser factor, they can't spare any for us <at this time>... So, maybe with Velious it will pay to go back and revisit people and places every so often, because things Change...
Game Time

I believe he means one month game time.
One month's time?
# Dec 14 2000 at 11:49 PM Rating: Default
I wonder... do they mean that the next quest in the series will be implemented in mid-January? Or do they mean that there is some flag put on the item that requires you to keep it for one game-month before you can return it for the next quest?
Or is it just another one of those "You'll need to be higher level, buddy" quests?

I've had the shawl for over 3 months game time and he will not tame it still.

Does that mean that when you try to give it to him before the alotted time that he will give it back and say it isn't time yet? And, if you give it to him before than you won't lose it? I've recently gotten this shawl and am worried that if I hand it to him before the right time that he will keep it and I'll have to get the toes again. Anyone have anymore information?

Thanks in advance :)

Could be 1 month of online game time. Lets say an EQ day is 1hr (which it's not) then you would have to play 30 more hours (30 game days) in order for him to give you the rest of the quest. OR you may have to do something else and once you get that done then you can go back and (regardless of how ong it really took) the "month" will have passed. Just tossing some ideas at ya. =)

I did this quest day one and waited one month of game time. I went back and gave him the shawl back and got the "exp music", but got no exp, faction and he gives back the shawl. He also tells you "We do not have your next assignment yet" i.e. Verant doesn't know what the next part of the quest will be....

I did the toes and gave me the shoulders and said something a bout a task ... I asked about the task and he gave me a box and told me to put 10 of them giant heads in it and combine and give it back whith the shawl ... I did so and was give back a cloth shawl with double the stats ... and said something about {chore} but when asked he did not have more to do yet and to come back at another time and ask again ..

Kindly is before warmly...it goes, from worst to best:

Scowls -> glares -> glowers -> apprehensive -> indifferent -> amiable -> kindly -> warmly.

I'm quite positive about that.

To correct the post dated Weds Jan 10th 0137:

"Kindly is before warmly...it goes, from worst to best:

Scowls -> glares -> glowers -> apprehensive -> indifferent -> amiable -> kindly -> warmly.

I'm quite positive about that."

This persons post is incorrect.

It is this:

ready to attack --> threateningly --> dubiously --> apprehensively --> indifferently --> amiably --> kindly --> warmly --> fondly (however this I have never seen, and may no longer be a word in Verants vocabulary)

Ummmm, how is your correction different?

Scowls, ready to attack.
Glares at you threateningly.
Glowers at you dubiously.
etc.

The only thing that is different about your correction is the inclusion of "fondly," which by your own admission, you have never seen. Neither have I, but perhaps it exists.

NO, ITS:
Ready to attack --> Threateningly --> Dubiously --> Apprehencively --> Indifferently --> Amiably --> Kindly --> Warmly --> Ally
