The Coldain Shawl quest begins with Loremaster Borannin in Thurgadin. He's found near the Paladin guild at /way -305,+815.

You say, 'Hail, Loremaster Borannin'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Greetings, _____, please be seated and hear the Grand Historian, he is among the wisest of our people.'

You say, 'I seek to perform duties for the crown.'

Loremaster Borannin says 'Those eager to prove their loyalty to the Dain may do so by completing tasks that I have been commissioned to assign. If you wish to begin your service, return to me with four toes of our enemy, the Kromrif.'

Bring him four Frost Giant Toes (common drop from Kromrif giants). Upon turn-in:

Loremaster Borannin says 'Ahh, well done! On behalf of the Dain I thank you for making a dent in the number of our sworn enemy. Please accept this as a token of our appreciation. It is trivial, I know, but if you are as loyal as you claim to be, it will increase in power over time. It just so happens I have a [task] to further demonstrate your loyalty, ______.'

Your faction standing with Coldain has been adjusted by 10.
Your faction standing with Dain Frostreaver IV has been adjusted by 2.
Your faction standing with Kromzek has been adjusted by -1.
Your faction standing with Kromrif has been adjusted by -5.
You gain experience!!

This leads into the second Coldain Shawl quest : Coldain Shawl #2: Cloth Coldain Prayer Shawl.

Factions - Dain vs Coldain
# Sep 12 2001 at 2:46 PM Rating: Default
Are any of these quest givers on DAIN faction?

I've killed Dain Frostweaver a couple times, but I've killed enough giants to up my regular Coldain faction back to ally.. However, Dain himself doesnt' like me much..

Thank you people for posting information of on how do the quest. Thank you for your time and hard work.
#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 27 2001 at 5:23 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) This is about the first quest, no baking required. Just because some fool posts a "less than" everything-you-need-to-know summary of the information you can find in the appropriate threads about a few of the shawl quests doesn't mean that you should also be cluttering this area with *more* unrelated comments.
Faction needed?

Is there a certain faction level (Indifferent, Warmly, etc.) that needs to be obtained with the Coldain before atempting this quest?

I made the ulthork pie just becuase I had the meat and someone said it was part of a quest. Being A master baker I couldn't resist. Unfortunately when I got done I had an Ulthork pie and NO pie tin. Is this the way it's supposed to be or did the game goof? Has anyone done a feedback to verent about this. This is the first item I've ever baked/forged that stole my tools.

In this particular case (this, btw, being the *3rd* shawl quest), it eats the pie tin because, once you give the pie to Guard Brita, she gives you back a NO DROP, LORE "Used Pie Tin" that you're supposed to give back to Mordin. So, yes, for this quest, you lose the tin.

#Anonymous, Posted: Jul 27 2001 at 10:51 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) you always loose the tool when baking quest items. Just make a new one, or buy one from your local potter. Its not like they're expensive. (bout 2-3pp to make, IIRC)
If you want frost giant toes..
# Jun 16 2001 at 11:28 PM Rating: Decent
hunt in Kael..the giants in Iceclad have the WORST possible drop rate..then the ones in GD are marginally better, but the giants in kael, and especially closer to the arena you get, have a very good drop rate of toes and helmets..good luck.
Toes
# May 18 2001 at 7:57 PM Rating: Good
Easiest place I've seen toes drop (every other giant usually) is the giants within Kael itself. I know that doesn't help those in their 30's and 40's trying to do this, but perhaps try auctioning for them in Kael during a raid, someone may save them for you.

Wow, such a thorough posting and includes the information on baking all the goods necessary for one of the shawls. And the consequences of any possible alternate routes of doing parts of the quest (i.e. wanting the Seal and only the Seal, etc). Many congrats to the author of this post, as he(she) has exemplified the quality of the true EQ player (willing to help out others who may need information).

Sandwich.)

# Feb 05 2001 at 4:17 AM Rating: Default
Just wanted to let folks know that you don't need to wait a month to do the first two parts. Myself and another friend did the 1st and 2nd half of the quest in the same day. I actually did mine within 5 mins of each other and now I have the 3rd part which I'm working on. I handed in the toes and got the burlap shawl, then handed in the heads and shawl about 5 mins later and got the cloth shawl and 3rd part of the quest. 3rd part will of course take more time, but if you got the toes and heads all ready, go ahead and finish those 2 parts out. =)
RE: You don't have to wait a month..........

Wait a month? I think Verant wanted to role play. I would assume if your a stranger working your way in to a new society then you would have to take some time to build a reputation (kill some giants?). What you guys said is true. Do one after the other if you are capable of it. Don't be a noob and wait a RL month lol.

We have gotten tons of toes and heads from the Frost Giant Scouts in Great Divide. They appear to be random drops. We haven't tried hunting the giants in Eastern Wastes, so I don't know if they drop there.
RE: Which level giants drop the toes and heads?
# Jan 17 2001 at 9:12 PM Rating: Excellent
Last night, I logged on to solo some Frost Giants before the big experience patch. In all I killed 2 Frost Giant Scouts (in Great Divide), 3 Frost Giants and 2 Frost Giant Savages (those in Eastern Wastes). In those 7 kills, I found 4 kromrif heads and 2 frost giant toes (randomly from each type)...so these items are scattered nicely over all 3 giant types in both zones.
RE: Which level giants drop the toes and heads?
# Jan 23 2001 at 7:04 PM Rating: Default
Well, the past 3 days (Jan. 21,22,23) I have been killing the giants and havent had much luck with the toes at all. I have only looted one, then someone gave me another. However, the heads are dropping like crazy. I will prob have enough heads to do the second part 3 times by the time I get 4 toes. (

On a side note, I did most of my giant killing in the Great Divide, killing scouts and I never did see a toe drop. However, the first regular frost giant I killed in Eastern Wastes yielded a head and toes...yet I killed 6 after that and didnt see anything but coin/

update to quest
# Dec 20 2000 at 6:45 PM Rating: Decent
after you recieve the shawl
ask loremaster borranin [what task?]
he will then give you a box where you need to put in 10 kromrif heads and combine, return combined box and shawl for a new shawl with 2 ac 2 wis and 2 int.

quest seems to go on from there but it wouldnt let me proceed he mentions a [chore] but it seems we have to wait yet another game month to see next part. my guess is the giant warrior helmets.

so start saving them cause i think it might turn into a nice shawl in the end =)

Well, now that its been placed ingame and im trying to figure this out, but next up you have a "Task" which you can do. This involves frost giants (yet again) but their heads, and 10 of them in a container with a combine button. Collect these and turn them in combined with the prayer shawl and you are supposed to get an upgrade.

Yeah, after this patch though I tried turning in that shawl again, since he always gave it back, and the lil goober took it without a word!!! He did not even give me a "where is the rest of it?" So I guess I have to AGAIN turn in 4 toes and get the shawl then ask what task.

Try a month game time.. while playing the game.

Keep track of the TIME not the game date. What I mean is this.. A norrath day, is 72 minutes. 30 Norrath days, is 2160 minutes of real time play. Making it 36 hours, real time, in game play.

Just hope it doesn't have to be continuous.. a day and a hlaf camp, for what might be ANOTHER step in the quest..
